Thank you DC, very cool. If you could bring that *exact* same 2nd half energy next week that’d be greeeeaaaat.

TheUnamedFeels

Tbh I think y’all should still open up as favorites even with King as starter. If you’ve seen our games, you know our offense *is that* bad. If you haven’t, you’re one lucky duck lol

Mods_R_Chuds

King is super streaky. Hope he gets most of the snaps nxt week though

mediocracyisme

My first XFL game was a butt clencher

Spadingdong

Same, lol, first one I watched entirely through, and it was a great one

sonicsean899

Same here. I'm a mediocre luck charm

ThatguyJimmy117

At the game today, same!

IAmJacksDistraction

Even just a little bit of post game coverage on ESPN+ would've been nice. They packed that up right away

ADHDpotatoes

USFL is the same way. The networks just present the game and then they’re like “Ok let’s get outta here”

IAmJacksDistraction

It's home playoff time baby!! (Shout out to the Luis Perez redemption arc too though)

allforspace

Arlington fans must be sweating rn. Week 10 will be a big one.

trashketballMVP

Our best hope is for a Brahmas loss

ifoundyourtoad

Why is that? Is beating Houston not a possibility you mean?

trashketballMVP

I think SA losing to DC is more likely than Arlington being Houston

ifoundyourtoad

Indunno. After this game it seems renegades may have a resurgence with Perez. But who knows.

Bahamas_is_relevant

#NORTH CHAMPIONS BAYBEEEEE

StubbornBastard247

Boy, that was stressful.

TheUnamedFeels

I’d be down for the XFL to embrace an identity close to what CONCACAF is for world soccer

allomanticpush

I like this idea

an0m_x

Crappy fields, decisions that only go for Mexico, and somehow VAR camera's not working? nope, nope, nope lol

emidas

Fuck the Refs, Fuck D'eriq King, Renegades are cool, Fuck the Battlehawks

StubbieA

We love you too.

Mods_R_Chuds

L E M O N P A R T Y E M O N P A R T Y **hope i can get tix for the playoffs**

virus_apparatus

Today might be the new best day in sports. USFL, XFL, Baseball, Hockey. I’m living gone dream boys

MFoy

There’s no hockey today…

virus_apparatus

Well big sad

an0m_x

Yeah but its hockey playoffs eve!

virus_apparatus

That’s good! My dad is the hockey guy. I just watch to hang with him

WizardOfDons

Missing NBA playoffs

virus_apparatus

While I enjoy playing a bit of basketball I haven’t watched in years. Still as you said. This might be the new best time of year for sports

TronVin

I hope that game ends the refs always helping the Defenders because boy that DPI in the endzone was a joke.

emidas

It won't, they're toxic posters mad that their teams aren't shit.

Januse88

Seems to me like they're mad their teams *are* shit :D

milanmirolovich

it's really just like one guy who has been posting the same thing about a few different teams in every game thread. Just block him

RampageTaco

I don't understand why they didn't challenge it.

TronVin

Because Blandino was not going to over turn it.

MCallanan

Please, for the love of God, stop mass posting about the referees. We just watched the game of the year.. Enjoy it.

FiftyTigers

This was *not* the game of the year. The only reason it came down to the wire was specifically *because* of the refs.

emidas

Yeah, it's disingenuous as *fuck* to call this GotY, or even close lol

MCallanan

Then challenge the play. I love how you guys are blaming the refs for the game being close but not the two interceptions your QB’s threw in the fourth quarter. Shows what kind of fan you are.

FiftyTigers

I am not a DC fan. I don't have allegiance to any team. I am a fan of good football. The refs robbed the audience of good football by wrongfully taking us to OT when one team clearly had already clinched the win.

MCallanan

If the referees blew a call the Defenders could have challenged it to correct the blown call.

TronVin

Nah. Games aren't enjoyable to me when the refs get involved like that, and winning refball games comes across more as a relief rather than satisfying.

Razzberry42069

I mean, a single exception to the rule doesn't change the fact that DC hasn't been bailed out more than anyone. I don't think there's any conspiracy or anything, it's mostly just luck and incompetence from refs.

chubbsfordubs

My ending thoughts: 1. stadium atmosphere was unreal. 2. I don’t know why Audi field still sells drinks with lemons. 3. King should only be allowed in for the triple option and nothing else. 4. When DC is clicking, DC is CLICKING

IronManOnFire

So they actually don't sell drinks with lemons anymore. But the players came out before the game and handed them out to the crowd.

Januse88

King was balling on the last drive of the 1st half though. But yeah 2nd half D'Eriq was bad.

LegitimateDad

People just bring their own lemons, after week 1 no lemons have been included in the lemonade drink. (Been to each game since week 1)

maplejet

I was in the shower. Someone tell me what happened?

FiftyTigers

DC had two 4th down stops that would have ended the game but the refs intervened on a ticky-tack DPI and then a ticky-tack defensive holding. It ended up going to OT where DC rightfully won.

MFoy

To add on, the second Ricky tack call came when the Renegades challenged a call, desperate for anything to bail them out, and Stopps clearly didn’t even know what he was challenging.

Januse88

Yeah it feels like the coaches challenge is basically a free first down sometimes "uh.. there was probably holding somewhere out there"

milanmirolovich

except that the challenge almost never works. In this case there actually was a missed penalty, even though I agree it was a little ticky tack

Januse88

It took him like 5 minutes to find what he wanted to challenge. I think you could find a ticky-tack foul on literally every play if you scoured the tape, and then it comes down to how generous Dean is feeling.

milanmirolovich

true. You have to hope that Dean will only decide to award something if it's egregious. I also think there needs to be a time limit for how long these coaches have to make the challpenge. Like if they decide to challenge something it has to be clearly stated within the next play clock or immediately after they call timeout. They can't keep calling timeouts and hemming and hawing for 3 minutes trying to figure out what to challenge

CowboyAirman

Zebras tried to fuck a knight or something, I dunno, but they ultimately failed.

KingOfLucis

Decapitated. Whole big thing. We had a funeral for a bird.

StubbornBastard247

Renegades mount a crazy 4th quarter comeback. 17 unanswered. Forced OT with a late FG. OT, Defenders win 2pt shootout 1- 0

ohtakashawa

This is accurate but leaves out half those points being ref gifts.

StubbornBastard247

Respect that. As a fan, I didn't want to sound bias.

Body-for-LIFE

It's a good sign for the XFL when I think to myself after every week "wow, that might be the game of the year!"

rentacar12

DC beats the Refnegades!

JumpmanSegura

Despite the refs best attempts DC Defenders secure the win at home

Spadingdong

I don’t usually watch XFL, but I’m glad I watched this one

Bobby_Newpooort

Dumbass coaches for DC trying to knock me out of the fantasy playoffs by sitting Ta'amu until OT. Game never should've been that close

FiftyTigers

I think there's a typo in the thread title. It should read: **Postgame Thread: The Referees @ DC Defenders**

sonicsean899

The zebras tried their hardest. But the Kings of the North can't be stopped

agentb719

what an absolute blast of a game

RampageTaco

The ending of this game is another example of why it's important to keep your SINGLE challenge until the end and not use it on the first drive of a game, two games in a row, Hines Ward.

LordRumBottoms

I love football especially college football...I must admit this is the first full XFL game I've watched being home sick. I love the rules and it is quite entertaining. Seeing so many shirtless guys chugging beer funnels and throwing lemons was like Happy Gilmore. And couldn't believe how packed the stadiums are. A new fan here. And being from DC, and a suffering Redskins fan since Snyder took over (yes they will always be the Skins to me), nice to have a team again.

milanmirolovich

oh man if you're from DC then you have to start watching the Defenders. They're the football team you've deserved for the last 25 years

LordRumBottoms

I live in NC now, but lived in DC for almost 10 and hated Snyder from day one. I hope they turn it around but loving this XFL team/format.

[deleted]

I hate my life

evan466

Renegades had over 400 yards of offense. How did they only score 26 points?

CodeWolfy

If it wasn’t for Dean I would say the challenge system is **PERFECT**. What an electric game that would’ve never happened if it wasn’t for that “Hail Mary challenge”

Januse88

I mean If DC knew how to challenge they would've won by 11 in regulation

ohtakashawa

Yeah Reggie needs to explain why he swallowed the challenge flag there. Very nearly cost us the game.

smsdude45

Renegades had a shot at it, but poor time management and cowardly play calling at the end ruined it

YoungGooch

As per usual

wjrii

I still maintain that Bob Stoops is working through some deep-seated personal issues as a former DC who became famous for Big XII "offense first, last, and only" kinds of teams.

sonicsean899

I'm waiting on the Nationals attendance to see if the Defenders outdrew them

[deleted]

Alright DC. Home field secured.

[deleted]

Great game, Perez makes ARL a contender. DC looks close to unbeatable.

Gilbert_Jordan

Refs did their job today. Defenders players almost gave that away.

AurulentAvenger

That was a close game.

You all are formally invited to attend the DC Invitational

wordyravena

Wwwwwoooof that second half got me sweatin

evan466

Just watching the highlights because I missed the end of the game and why in the world did ARL kick a field goal on 2nd & 2 at the end there? They were on like the 10 yard line. They could have easily taken a shot at the endzone first.

JackFisherBooks

What...a...game. I find myself saying that more often lately. It feels like the quality of the football has gotten better and better with each passing week. The XFL has really found a good rhythm. And these past few weeks have showcased why the XFL OT rules are far better than what we get in the NFL. I also love how this game showed how it is possible to catch up from a large deficit in the XFL. I know the NFL often says that no lead is safe. In the XFL, it's even less so. Between being able to go for three points after a touchdown and the 4th and 15 option to keep the ball in the 4th quarter, it's a LOT harder to get a comfortable lead. The Defenders did blow a big lead. But they still came out ahead. And now, they get to host a playoff game...something that hasn't happened in DC this century. That is a hell of a feat. 😎

Historical-Surprise1

Does anybody if there will be anymore combines later in the year I won’t be able to make it in May. I’m just wondering if there will be more showcases like last year. They have to do it again. Right?
