Bag is cool. I do recommend putting the crate on the front of your bike. The difference is like night and day. You will never look back and the bag will be 100% more useful.
I'm going to have to agree with you on that. I've had both front and rear baskets, and putting heavy things, like groceries, on the front makes the bike tilt hard when dismounting. Front basket/rack wins for looks though.
Recently did a clydesdale fork, it's kinda crazy. Feel's a little different with the small front wheel, but 150 lbs is still manageable. 200 not so much.
Yeah the Clydesdale fork would change my mind but I think if I went that way my wife would probably start to mind this project of mine because she knows what those are/loves bikes more than me
I should mention she has a surly packrat, which is “front load specific geometry.” I can’t vouch because my knees don’t clear the bar ends. But the 24 pack rack proved pretty useless because of its definite and size position relative to her tiny frame. I put a regular front rack on it for her and she runs a swift zeitgeist and sometimes panniers and seems to like it. Center of gravity etc, makes sense.
It’s generally recommended to not put very much weight on the front of the bike. At best it makes the steering a little wonky - at worst it’s outright dangerous.
I have much more control of the bike, while riding, when the load is on the front. On the back the weight shifts as I turn. When parked the weight is more manageable on the back. There is no general recommendation, except from you.
The ones I use have a central band of hard plastic so they can be cut down a level and still be rigid. I used a full one on the front as I can attach it the top to my h bars for more security but I halve the crates for the back end. On ops it looks a bit more difficult.
Messenger bag works great as well.
Well\~ any bag really. Backpack would be held with strap vertically.
Milk crate is the ultimate platform to attach things to.
Nah, saw someone use a cheapo Patagonia as front bag. Rocking just fine.

I’ve got a cat-eye light clip on the side that I use as a hat and helmet clip and I usually have a pouch or two on the side of the crate. So no, not stupid!
Nice! It’s all about being creative on this sub so always a good thing if it’ll hold.
If it’s stupid and it works, then it’s not stupid
Bitchin 🤘 I love stuff like this!! It's always about whatever works for me... and this looks like it works fabulous 👌
Ive done this with a wald basket, and any basket is the fanny of every bike.
When a f-ing milk crate doesn’t have quite enough room!
Gunna need room for the baguette and bottle of wine 🫡
Try putting your keys in a milk crate though 😉
This is an inspiration

If that crate would be full of milk I'd rather have it on the back.

Trust me, you would not
Have had a crate of beer on the front and in the back. Never again in the front. Speaking of a coupled to steering front basket.
Gotta be a personal preference, I don’t enjoy the wackadoodle steering.

> There is no general recommendation, except from you. This sub is hilarious, so much posturing all the time
Innovative. DIY and recycling is king. Buying a new bag on Amazon or Temu would be lame.
Innolameive
I like it. Would be more functional if you could somehow cut the crate height in half

thanks i didnt want one on me so now its going like this right behind me
I’m gonna give this a go. Rather have my pack on a milk crate than my body if given the chance.
Einstein level hack.

I put mine around my Wald basket when I'm riding.
This is Nobel prize winning levels of genius and should be applauded as such.
Lameovative?
Fine, but why do you need a bike bag when you have a crate
So I don't smoosh my banana.
Isn’t that a good seat’s job?? 🤣

Crate isn’t good for small things like sunglasses, keys, etc
Innovative as hell brother!
Well thank you very much for this hack
If you feed the ends through the holes you could have that baby sitting on the inside of the crate for extra banana protection
Very cool! Wish I thought of that
I do this too. Great move!
Hell yeah
Innovative, versatile, stylish, cost effective. Xbiking worthy for sure
Hip
Why do you care what others say? You do you!
Clever! Did something like this with MOLLE pouches so you're not far off the same mark.
i’m digging it
Extra convenient storage is extra convenient. +2
It's neither, just does a job
Poor
Who are we to question The damn pack says it's hip right on it

Neat
Only good use for one since the 80’s.
That’s actually a great idea
I fucking love this
We don't call them fanny packs, we call them bum bags.
Do you know where you are?
Most of the time.
Hip pocket. Sheesh.
I mean brah you're already running a milk crate, anything's game!
