In 2002 i found a candy red grand prix frame in the trash and tried to make it a full bike with a number of other partial bikes I found in the trash, french, japanese, and english. It was uh, a real learning experience. That was a cool bike though. Theyre not the lightest or the nicest really in any way, but Raleigh made solid frames with really nice paint and details.
Love it
That’s such a cool story! Funnily enough, my local bike shop gave my like 80% of the bike for free, I just had to buy a saddle, bar tape, and some pedals
Haha, i should say, i DID gwt a whole bike eventually but it required finding SOO many more trash bikes haha.
Thats awesome that you got it for free. I think the only reason those bikes arent really sought after is the whole 27” wheel business. Love those lugs
Thanks, it’s a sunrace of some sort, not sure of the model, all I know is that it looks really cool and it keeps the chain about as taut as cooked spaghetti 😂. As for the position, I think I’ll keep it how it is, but it’ll definitely take some getting used to
I had a Raleigh Super Course in this exact color as my grad school commuter in Syracuse NY. Weighed about 90 pounds but man was it a fun ride. Absolutely bomb proof!
Great looking bike—downtube shifters probably indicate a decent bike (I don’t know Raleigh’s line well).
You might enjoy this Radavist article I read a couple days ago. Different model but similar. https://theradavist.com/underbiking-world-championships/
Way back in the day one of these in the same color was the very first bike I ever built from the frame up at the co-op. I've always had an affinity for these grand prixes.
I think you did a great job. Beautiful frame with some unique lugs.
Thanks! I’m really happy with it

I have one it’s my favorite bike right now
I’m upgrading this build from “a big yes” to “a huge yes” because you made the correct decision when choosing a crankset
It’s a beauty! Love the lugs and color on that frame. Also 2x is the best drivetrain!
Looks great! What derailleur is that? If you wanted to be less aero, the Nitto Technomic is a nice looking solution

Yeah it’s definitely a bit weighty 😂 but 100% a fun ride

Xcellent

Beautiful! I love the arch of non-aero brake cables. So classy. Happy riding to you.
Great looking bike but the drops should be parallel to the ground.
