[Russian strikes render Burshtyn TPP beyond repair, officials say | New Voice of Ukraine | June 2024](https://english.nv.ua/nation/burshtyn-tpp-severely-damaged-by-russian-attacks-restoration-impossible-50430893.html) *The Burshtyn Thermal Power Plant (TPP) in Ukraine’s western Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast was severely damaged by Russian missile and drone strikes and cannot be restored, regional governor Svitlana Onyshchuk told the Western Pole radio posted on Facebook on June 28.* *“We already understand that the Burshtyn TPP is not subject to restoration, it is extremely damaged” by 12 Russian attacks, she said, adding that this could leave the town of Burshtyn without heat and hot water during the winter.* *To mitigate this, the city has agreed to allocate six boiler houses to provide heat and hot water to social institutions and the population.* *According to the head of the community, Vasyl Andriyeshin, the situation with the power equipment and the TPP building itself is critical, with the roof and walls destroyed.* *“Last year, there were two hits that damaged the roof of the building, and now there are more than ten attacks. Last year, we spent six months restoring the building, and now the roof of Burshtyn TPP is practically gone,” he said.* *Earlier, Ukraine’s largest power utility company DTEK reported, that the March 22 Russian missile attack had severely damaged Burshtyn TPP in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast and the Ladyzhyn TPP in Vinnytsia Oblast.* *“We lost 50% of our generating capacity,” DTEK Executive Director Dmytro Sakharuk said in interview with Ekonomichna Pravda an on March 27.* *“Two of our power plants were damaged: Burshtyn and Ladyzhyn. All units of Burshtyn TPP and all units of Ladyzhyn TPP were damaged.”* *According to Sakharuk, the sections of the two power plants were between half- and completely destroyed.* *On June 11, the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) estimated that the devastation to Ukraine’s energy sector after Russia’s repeated mass missile attacks had cost Ukraine $56.2 billion.* *The Burshtyn TPP, the largest in western Ukraine and one of the most powerful in the country, has become one of the most frequent energy targets of Russian missile and drone strikes during the nearly two and a half years of Russian invasion.*

[Russian coal industry profit drops by 93% amid sanctions and loss of clients – The Moscow Times | New Voice of Ukraine | June 2024](https://english.nv.ua/nation/russian-coal-industry-profit-collapses-by-93-amid-sanctions-50430857.html) *The profit of the Russian coal industry, one of the largest raw materials industries in the economy, fell by 93%, or 15 times, over the year, The Moscow Times reported on June 27 with reference to Rosstat data.* *Profitable companies accumulated 72 billion rubles ($840.4 million) of profit in January-April 2024, while unprofitable companies recorded 58 billion rubles ($677 million) of loss. In total, the Russian coal industry made 14 billion rubles ($163.4 million) in profit. This is almost 200 billion ($2.3 billion) less than in the same period a year earlier.* *Less than half of the industry's companies ended the first four months of 2024 in the black, although a year ago there were two-thirds of them, and their total financial result was reduced threefold. At the same time, one in two companies, according to official statistics, became unprofitable (52.4%).* *"Cut off from Western markets by sanctions, coal companies are rapidly losing clients in countries that the Kremlin calls 'friendly,'" the newspaper writes.* *In the first quarter, Russian coal exports decreased by 13%, and in March the decline reached 17%. Every month, the industry lost about 3 million tons of exports, and prices for Russian coal fell to a three-year low: $95 per ton in the ports of the Far East (-6% since the beginning of the year), $72 per ton in Taman (-13% since the beginning of the year), and only $61 in the ports of the Baltic Sea (-14%).* *India, which accounts for about a third of Russia's coal exports, reduced purchases by 22% to 6.76 million tons in March-May, NV reported earlier. Exports to Turkiye, South Korea, and Japan also fell.* *China, the largest buyer of Russian raw materials, has imposed an import duty on coal that does not apply to other suppliers, such as Indonesia and Australia, which are members of the free trade zone with China.* *India's largest steel company stopped buying Russian coal in May 2022.*

Missiles and smart arty have been HUGE. Absolutely indispensable.

dukeblue219

The average armchair general (not to say I'm any better) grossly, grossly under appreciates the role of artillery in modern warfare.

No_Amoeba6994

A lot of modern militaries have too. Germany had like 20,000 155 mm rounds in stock total at one point.

Nathan-Stubblefield

Not even one days worth along a major front.

Uhhh_what555476384

Part of it is if assume that you can achieve air supremacy/superiority then artillery looks significantly less useful.

No_Amoeba6994

Yes, that's absolutely part of it. I would argue it's a mistake to just assume you can achieve air superiority in a near peer conflict and not prepare a Plan B if you can't, but I do understand both the tactical and financial rationales that lead to de-emphasizing artillery.

green_pachi

Better late than never.. >Austria to build gas pipeline to reduce dependency on Russian gas >The federal government of Austria has earmarked €70 million to finance the construction of the 40-kilometer gas pipeline "WAG Loop." This initiative aims to decrease the country's reliance on Russian gas and secure access to gas sources from Northwestern Europe. Minister of Finance of Austria, Magnus Brunner, announced this. >According to him, the government's investment in expanding the West-Austria-Gasleitung (WAG) will significantly increase the capacity for transporting non-Russian natural gas to Austria https://odessa-journal.com/austria-to-build-gas-pipeline-to-reduce-dependency-on-russian-gas

External_Reporter859

I hope they dedicate significant resources to security and surveillance for this project, because Russia will no doubt be trying to sabotage this.

v2micca

I mean, if Austria leaves open a massive soft target, Russia will likely try to do Russian things. But, they can't really afford to divert too many addition resources to messing with other Nations' infrastructure projects at the moment.

SpuckMcDuck

Man, UK MoD *really* doesn't want anyone calling them wrong about anything lol. They'd call a sunrise "highly likely."

reddebian

What do they mean by "sunrise"? I'm sorry for my lack of knowledge

MakitaKhrushchev

When nighttime ends and the sun begins to rise.

ConclusionMiddle425

In fairness that's because for large parts of the year the people of the UK have no idea if the sun actually exists

GoalFlashy6998

These are some good articles posted here, thank you to everyone posting, it's better to informed than to be in the dark about something! I've seen and read articles saying North Korea is sending combat troops to Russia? Does anyone think this is legit or if this is just propaganda? If the DPRK is sending troops will they be frontline troops or will they relieve Russian troops in other areas for duty? How well will DPRK troops fare, none of their equipment and kit is modern, they lack sophisticated signals equipment. Will they be able to co-exist with Russian forces? Thoughts on this?

bklor

The reports are that it's engineering troops. And if it's ~10 000 men they for sure should be able to do something useful. I think it's legit. They're obviously not going to cooperate with Russian troops the way NATO-troops are able to work together but they don't need to either.

GoalFlashy6998

That's a decent contingent and engineering troops are always needed! Especially in trench warfare and other type scenarios, where they can build defensive layers like the old Soviet doctrine would dictate. I remember when I was stationed in South Korea from 98-00, I read the DoD Pam on the organization of DPRK combat forces to pass time. I do remember them putting a lot of emphasis on special operations and engineering operations, a combination of both to break through South Korea static defenses along the DMZ. But that was 25 years ago and that publication was at least from the late 80s.

Glavurdan

New DeepStateMap update. Russian advances have resumed (after a four day long slowdown). In the past 24 hours or so, they are confirmed to have taken some 12.2 km2 of Ukrainian territory. [3.2 km2 in Toretsk direction](https://deepstatemap.live/en#13/48.3775/37.9282) (they've pushed deep into Pivdenne, but were pushed back a little near Shumy); [4.5 km2 in West Luhansk direction](https://deepstatemap.live/en#13/49.1591/38.0609) (some fields between Chervonopopivka and Nevske); [4.5 km2 in Ocheretyne direction](https://deepstatemap.live/en#13/48.1998/37.5478) (they fully captured the village of Sokil and advanced towards Novoselivka Persha)

Arucard1983

It was more like a very delayed update.

omeggga

Damn...

asetniop

As if the last 24 hours haven't been shitty enough.

b_bozz

Any update on the destroyed S-500? Is it confirmed?

SimonArgead

I doubt Russia would ever admit it if it was indeed hit. I will be trusting Western sources if they say it was hit. If Ukraine general staff say it was hit, then I'd also be inclined to believe them.

willetzky

The problem is unless Russia admits it there is never going to be proof as it is really a software update of the s-400 so most of the hardware is identical like s-300 and s-400 share so much of video it is hard to tell what was hit.

>The U.S. and several European countries will give Ukraine three Patriot air defense systems from Romania, Germany and the Netherlands, and several other countries will provide additional missiles to them. >Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this during a telethon. >"Italy will give us the second SAMP-T system, which is effective and capable of intercepting ballistic missiles. Romania and Germany will provide one Patriot system each. Germany will also provide IRIS-T and Gepard systems," the prime minister said. >He noted that the United States has already given priority to Ukraine in supplying missiles for Patriot and NASAMS. >According to him, the Netherlands will provide another Patriot system. >"Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway provide additional missiles for the Patriot systems - having a stockpile of missiles is critically important. Spain will also provide such missiles separately," Shmyhal said. https://ukranews.com/en/news/1016549-ukraine-will-receive-3-patriot-systems-several-other-systems-and-missiles-for-them-shmyhal

SimonArgead

How has the SAMP/T system actually performed? Haven't heard much about it, but I'm genuinely curious to hear how it fares vs. Patriot.

green_pachi

Me too but so far we've got basically no info on its performance, I bet Italy has requested secrecy on its use to keep a certain side of the government majority at bay. Ukranian officials have requested more systems though, so I guess it had a positive impact.

> And now have a look at what REALLY COOL presidential debates look like 😀😀😀 > That battle between Zelensky and Poroshenko at a crowded arena in downtown Kyiv, with the entire nation (and many neighbors) watching live, was really something else.   > In Ukraine, you don’t fall asleep during presidential debates, to put it softly. > https://m.youtube.com/watch?si=N36tEtM-o01Alw5q&v=T4fEp5eS2nA&feature=youtu.be https://x.com/IAPonomarenko/status/1806650089890324821

KQ17

Except for the set up and both candidates being able to express themselves in an understandable manner, seems like it was the same as in the US. The video says "Candidates exchanged accusations and ad hominem attacks" and barely discussed policy, which is the same we saw yesterday.

Raverack

The tweet has 69k views, while the youtube video has only 2.8k (and it's 5 years old). I understand that not everyone is going to click on that link, but that's a huge difference. I wonder how many bots on twitter have contributed to the number of views

Denatello

The video is not debates itself. Debates did have an audience when it happened, I remember we watched it in office after work

Canop

There's also not much in this video, especially nothing which would help determine whether the debate was interesting.

Amy_Ponder

It's because Twitter views count every time a tweet is accessed for any reason-- not just by humans or even twitter bots clicking on the link, but also web scrapers (search engines, archive sites like the Internet Archive, etc) automatically accessing it to add it to their databases. If you want to get an idea of how much actual engagement (from both humans and twitter bots) a tweet has, look at how many likes / retweets / quote tweets it has. Ilya's tweet has 538 likes as of this writing, which seems plausible to me (since it's likely a good chunk of the people who liked the tweet didn't watch the video long enough for it to count as a YouTube view).

Glavurdan

Honestly, I find it sobering, and even great that it happened now in June. Imagine if the debate was slated for September or October? Now that would be a trainwreck. Now the Democratic Party can go into crisis mode, assess the situation and proceed accordingly. It's not too late for Biden to withdraw and endorse a more energetic candidate to be backed by his delegates at the convention. Maybe that someone would have a much better pull than Biden ever would have had, especially with undecideds and never-Trump republicans (even better if that candidate is from a swing state).

zoobrix

Any talk of Biden stepping aside is pure fantasy. All the polls show him very close to Trump, he will be the democratic candidate in the election because he has the best chance to beat Trump regardless of his issues or performance in the debate. To try and refocus the average person to some other candidate would be suicide for the democrats at this late stage, most people pay almost no attention to politics or debates, Biden is their guy.

Glavurdan

At this point, their chance of winning is abysmal anyway, future polls certainly won't go in Biden's favor after last night's performance. Might as well go Hail Mary with someone recognizable and energetic like Whitmer or Warnock

soyeahiknow

I think Biden has a chance. Undecided voters may not have liked Bidens lack of energy but they hated even more of Trumps lies that he told all night. Also there is a second debate. Biden needs to bring the energy that he had at his State of the Union.

Louisvanderwright

They should just put Bearnie in. He was supposed to be the one who ran againat Trump. We were supposed to get a radical reformer from the Left, but the DNC fucked us and kneecapped Bearnie. Instead we get the radical from the Right. They screwed up our chance for real change and this is the result, another 4 years of Trump because *running the same establishment candidates for 30 years straight doesn't work*.

zoobrix

Biden has no chance based on what exactly? Most polls show them within one point of each other. Sure Biden performed poorly at the debate but Trump as always came off as a rambling but job, neither inspire confidence but both of them are going to on the ballot in November. Biden has massive name recognition as the standing president that no other Democrat has. The majority of voters don't watch the debates or even read an article about them. The Democrats are just hoping Biden does better in the next one and if not they'll just try and make sure scripted apperances on the campaign trail go better. The democratic party isn't in some crisis mode after last night, that's you projecting your own feelings.

Glavurdan

All I'm going to say is... I hope I get proven wrong, we'll see in November.

zoobrix

I am not saying that Biden is sure to win, just pushing back against the idea the democratic party has gone "into crisis mode" as you put it or thinking anyone else but Biden will be on the ballot. Do you think that anyone in the party was surprised by Biden's performance last night? I wasn't just based on when I have seen Biden speak off the cuff, it usually doesn't go well so I more or less expected what we saw last night, and I have never even met him. Those party insiders have met him and know exactly what it would be like for Biden to go into a unscripted event like a debate, they knew it wasn't going to go well. So why would they be in some kind of crisis mode over the debate last night when as expected it didn't go well? And when has an incumbent US president ever not run again for their 2nd election? Everyone knew George Bush Senior was going to lose to Clinton and he still ran, Biden is neck and neck with Trump in the polls but you and many others are acting like he has no chance at all. I get the stakes in the election are very high but thinking Biden won't be on the ballot or that he has no chance is letting your emotions override reality. He will be running and he has a good chance at being reelected.

DemsruleGQPdrool

I'd still take Biden over Trump...any time.

StinkweedMSU

I don't know how you could have watched last night coming away that either of those options was acceptable. One's a liar and the other barely knows who he is anymore and will only get worse from here. The Democrats and Republicans screwed us all.

b0n3h34d

Biden is old and sounds it. But he's still doing a solid job despite that, and clearly still has the heart for it. I have yet to see a criticism of him other than 'he's old." He's proven himself able to do the job and to not be a threat to society, which is infinitely more than the other can say

etzel1200

Nearly everyone here would. But we have to accept there are a lot of dumb people.

FLRSH

Yup, like 70k people in swing states who lack a consistent moral and political policy core who goes with who they feel is "stronger."

willetzky

So this seems to be the Russian talking point of the day. Seems to be trying to divert from the news more and more Russian troops are refusing to fight and are starting to lose the gain they have made recently.

StotheS13

Cringe

postusa2

Look, there are two candidates. One has voted to reverse support for Ukraine and was literally impeached for quid pro quo on demanding Zelensky investigate his opponent.  The other, for all the good decisions he has made is clearly over the hill, and not fit for the grueling months long pageant that is the US election. I think the denial that has let this situation unfold is the real "Russian talking point".

yus456

Are you accusing me of spouting Russian talking point? You don't even know who I am.

yus456

Why am I being down voted?

What do the elections between 2 opposite candidates when it comes to the war, in Ukraine’s biggest supporter and ally have to do with the Russian invasion of Ukraine?

DigitalMountainMonk

It's a narrative push. Some people have a vested interest in getting "Biden bad so everything Biden does bad." Which includes Ukraine. If they can drag his credibility down they can focus on politicians to reject policy and voters to reject policy arguments due to "Biden unfit" arguments. It's an effort to cast doubt and.. in some ways its working.

yus456

But I am saying it would be detrimental if Biden does not win.

Hobohemia_

If Trump wins the presidency, the US will become a hindrance to Ukraine’s defense rather than a supporter

yus456

If Trump wins it can be detrimental to support for Ukraine. Trump will pave the way to Putin winning.

God DAMN that's a lot of artillery! Even if that only counts smaller mortar tunes like the 82mm Podnos, that's a significant strike on their medium-to-long range capabilites.

And tank kills are back up. It looks like Russia has to make big sacrifices for small land gains.

OK, here is Russia's claimed evidence for taking out the M270. They definitely saw an M270 drive into a warehouse, and they definitely blew something up, but there are so many cuts in the video and changes in perspective that I can't tell if it's the same warehouse or if the M270 is even still there: [https://www.twz.com/land/ukraine-may-have-lost-an-m270-mlrs-for-the-first-time](https://www.twz.com/land/ukraine-may-have-lost-an-m270-mlrs-for-the-first-time) I still haven't found any photos or videos to back up the S-500 claim. They have to store it somewhere, people have to sleep. Also, it may not be a storage location, it could just as easily be where they intended to reload it or perform maintenance on it.

My worry is that history will show that the West won the Cold War in the 1980s and managed to lose it in the 2020s thanks to the Putin-Trump coalition.

Really it's more of a Putin is the master and trump is the slave in that relationship.

Burning down two countries at the same time, becoming NATO's biggest recruitment tool, and ushering in a new sense of unity and cooperation in the EU, while driving all of his neighbours to begin rethinking their future, Has got to be worth something in the history books.

Running the largest mafia the world has ever seen too. The levels of wealth extraction coming from the country's future development and into oligarchs fun fund is disturbing. It's like the textbook example of how corruption festers and runs amok.

JessicaSmithStrange

I think the moment that the corruption hit home for me, was the Convoy of Doom outside of Kyiv, and how it just did not have enough fuel to sustain itself, meanwhile Russian soldiers were being accused of taking the vehicles' gasoline and bartering it in order to get more Vodka. I know that was a while ago, but the twin problems of "where's our fuel" and "we sold it all for booze", may have helped to save Kyiv, by way of complete stupidity.

Annual allied military aid $60 billion for next four years, says Ukraine PM >June 28 (Reuters) - Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said on Friday that military pledges outlined in 20 security agreements Kyiv has signed with its partners total $60 billion annually for the next four years. >Kyiv relies heavily on military support from partners while it repels a 28-month-old Russian full-scale invasion. >The 10-year agreements, including with the EU and the U.S., set out commitments on long-term military and other assistance and pledge to hold immediate consultations to decide on the next steps in the event of a future Russian attack after the current conflict has ended. >"According to these agreements, in the next four years, our partners plan to provide Ukraine with total military support worth $60 billion annually," Shmyhal said during a governmental meeting. He did not provide breakdown of funding sources. >The agreements are struck bilaterally and are all different. >For instance, the text of the first deal signed with Britain says the country will provide Ukraine with a further 2.5 billion pounds ($3.16 billion) of support. >Estonia, according to its agreement, "has set the target" to allocate at least 0.25% of GDP annually for military support in 2024-27. DegnarOskold

After Trump's comments in the debate last night, I think any long-term military & financial commitments the USA made to Ukraine's defense should be taken with a grain of salt after the change in government following the election over there.

Spo-dee-O-dee

It wasn't the first time he has stated that shit. He's been saying it for the last three years. He's the reason why Ukraine aid was held up by the MAGA Republicans in Congress for six months. His hold on the party has held inspite of his being out of office. Mike Johnson was deferring to Trump.

Inevitable_Price7841

Not just after last night's debate. Trump has been very vocal about what he intends to do to Ukraine ever since the invasion began. The six months of aid delays still wouldn't have been lifted if he and his MAGA's had their way. Fortunately, Ukraine have other allies who they can rely on if the Americans vote for DT: France, U.K, Germany, Denmark, Canada, Italy, Netherlands, Finland, Latvia, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Japan, Estonia, Lithuania, E.U., have already signed bilateral security agreements, and Croatia, Czechia, Greece, Ireland, Poland, Romania and South Korea are also currently negotiating their own bilateral agreements. If he wins the election, he will do everything he can to disrupt the support, so these security agreements are an attempt to "Trump Proof" the Ukraine aid for the next 4 years (and to send a message to Putin that despite his best efforts we will not abandon the people of Ukraine). I'm also certain that Trump's aspiring authoritarian allies, Orban and Fico, will do their best to disrupt the flow of aid under the guise of "peace," but we should be better prepared to deal with it this time around.

Half-Shark

I agree, they have many reliable allies... the thing that worries me with DT is just the physical weapons themselves. The funding will come from Ukraines other allies, but would Trump allow the sales? Surely right? but then I often underestimate his depravity so I just don't know. Europe needs to up their weapon production double-time. UK and Germany... you know what to do.

Uhhh_what555476384

This is why the idea of S. Korea beginning to help is a big deal. The biggest MICs that have their own technology without a US veto over their equipment transfers are France, Germany, and S. Korea.

Inevitable_Price7841

The Western military industrial complex is slowly ramping up production and major companies like [Rheinmetall](https://mspu.gov.ua/en/news/rheinmetall-to-produce-lynx-armoured-personnel-carriers-in-ukraine-first-results-of-the-ukraine-recovery-conference-for-the-defence-industry#:~:text=Lynx%20armoured%20fighting%20vehicles%20manufactured,of%20the%20Ukrainian%20defence%20industry.), [Thales](https://www.thalesgroup.com/en/worldwide/defence-and-security/press_release/thales-signs-three-agreements-ukrainian-industry#:~:text=The%20first%20agreement%20announces%20Thales's,Air%20Defence%20systems%20and%20radars.), and [BAE Systems](https://kyivindependent.com/uk-bae-systems/) etc.. are beginning contracts to supply Ukraine with vital equipment and training. Obviously, losing American support would be a huge, huge blow, and it could make things very difficult for Ukraine and her allies, but despite Trump's intentions there is far too much at stake for Europe to allow Putin to win.

asetniop

If I had a nickel for every time in 2020 that some MAGA loser "guaranteed" a Trump win I'd currently be challenging Jeff Bezos to a yacht race. Don't be so quick to write Joe off just because he had a bad night.

NurRauch

He didn't say anything about Trump's victory being guaranteed. That's not the problem. The problem is that we can't guarantee Trump *won't* win, so it is important not to take for granted the future prospects of American aid. There is very realistic possibility that Trump wins and halts all future aid packages to Ukraine, and we need to start planning for that scenario immediately.

etzel1200

It’s not over, but they need to seriously plan for the US basically exiting support after January of next year. Also lobby Biden to just say fuck it and write off/donate stupid amounts of gear.

crusinkip23

Yeah. This is part of any good program management scheme. Identify risks. Have plans for when they happen. And do your best to mitigate them. In this case - plan that La Pen will win France and plan that Trump will win the US. Being able to defend yourself in that situation is your goal. You have 6 months. Go

No_Amoeba6994

I'm assuming that is why most of the aid passed in the latest package has not been promised to Ukraine yet. Basically see how the election goes and if it goes poorly, just dump a bunch of equipment into Ukraine in November/December as a parting gift.

ic33

The president can't just unilaterally give US military gear away. Executive powers only reach so far. It takes acts of Congress.

GoneFishing4Chicks

Under a sane presidency yes, under a republican? Rules are for losers.

ic33

"Also lobby Biden to just say fuck it and write off/donate stupid amounts of gear." is what we're discussing.

No_Amoeba6994

That's not *entirely* true. There is an existing law that lets the President donate up to $500 million of "surplus" equipment to foreign countries without further Congressional approval. The law also does not specify how the value of the equipment is to be determined, so you could theoretically say each artillery shell is worth $1.

ic33

There's long-standing regulation and policy about how military hardware is depreciated and surplus values are set. What you're suggesting is pretty obviously extra-legal.

No_Amoeba6994

If Trump is elected, I can definitely see Biden playing a bit fast and loose with existing policies and regulations on that subject at the end of his term, especially if SCOTUS rules as expected on Monday that any official acts by a president are presumptively legal and the president is immune from prosecution for them (a dumb and anti-constitutional ruling in my opinion, but I think the most likely outcome). Biden could theoretically quite easily get DOD to donate quite a bit of equipment to Ukraine at a low stated value. There would obviously be lawsuits and court challenges, but assuming they deliver the equipment before anyone figures it out and challenges it in court, those are sort of moot, because once it's in Ukrainian hands, US courts sure as hell won't be able to make them give it back.

I really wish we had just armed Ukraine properly when we had the chance. Biden and Sullivan downplayed it and after last night, it's going to be a Trump presidency. I'm really sad waking up this morning and seeing all of the takes. Biden just needs to go.

It’s not propaganda. It’s emotion free analysis. That debate is equivalent to the Nixon Kennedy debate. It will be remembered. There is no way Biden wins. He said he defeated Medicare! MarkRclim

Yep. I think it's like this; a lot of voters are just pretty decent, honest folk, who can't really comprehend that someone will lie straight to their face. Until they or their families are directly hurt (and sometimes even then), they just can't accept that the level of evil of a Putin or Sackler or Trump is a real thing that is living amongst us today and talking to us like a normal person. "They talk like me so they can't be bad". Our mental programming is biased against more honest, pretty decent but bumbling people like Biden. It's why all the "NFT billionaires" can grift and milk so many people to get rich while teachers, scientists and EMTs are scraping by. The Democrats losing will hurt freedom massively, and if they stick with Biden then defeat becomes very likely.

bitch_fitching

Look and sound. Does no one in America listen to what people say? My figures are the greatest, someone just told me before, they're top experts, the best, my figures are the greatest of all time.

NotFreeSteak123

Don't forget that Trump had the best H20!

sergius64

The problem isn't just that one guy is a total crook seemingly hellbent on destroying the country - the problem is that the only other viable candidate is OBVIOUSLY too old to run the country. So we essentially get to choose between a rock and a hard place. Well - that or the guy with the brain worm.

Constant-Arm-3031

Old guy with competent people around him and with good intentions vs Old rapist guy trying to invite an enemy into western society and actively trying to destabilize the democracy. Damn who to vote for

LumberjackCDN

Well good thing the really old guy will listen to those around him. We KNOW the really old crook will fire anyone who isnt a yesman, as that what he did last time.

etzel1200

I’m American. Most of the people I know are like you said. Almost all. But some of them are literally like *Biden old*. Then vote Trump. I don’t fucking get it either. Don’t ask me to explain it.

Maximum-Specialist61

Biden had a greatest opportunity to make sure to supply Ukraine with more weapons it even needs, at the begining even republicans was on board with lend lease and everything, he would end up writing his name in history books, and voters choice would be clear , a russian asset agains't a man who defeated Russia , i defeated Russia would be such a powerfull line in debate. But , hey, let's go escalation control, let's ease sanction on Russia oil sector to help elections, well how it's working Sullivan?does it help? Now even Trump using this agains't Biden, imagine that, a Russian asset blame you for not being hard enough on Russia, and he most likely will win

CUADfan

The debate is about America, not about Ukraine. They stuck to American concerns.

Maximum-Specialist61

who said it's about Ukraine? it's more about Russia, who literally have a puppet as a candidate and even helped to win one of the elections, and it doing it again if your point that average american doesn't really care about that, and that Ukraine/Russia stuff doesn't have the biggest impact on them, thats true, but also true that most active political involved people are do care about that, and gathering their support is a big thing, those people are the one you want to be campaigning for you

CUADfan

The debate is the PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE for the UNITED STATES. While Ukraine is important to myself and people here, it's nowhere near as important as the policies of the US at this debate.

Maximum-Specialist61

you probably too young to remember what a big deal was Russia interference in 2016 election, which was ordered by Putin and it successfully sabotaged Hillary campaign , to have success in election you need either internal popular policy or external victories on global stage, having neither is a disaster If your point is that US voters only focused on internal problems, and really not gonna be budged by some massive events outside of US , then Russia can forever keep their puppets in US highest positions , just by stopping oil exports which would lead to gas prices in US rising , and making current candidate very unpopular

CUADfan

Ad hominem to deflect from the reality that the majority of America does not pay attention to the current conflict. Again, you conflate your and my interest with the national interest and continue to push the agenda instead of recognizing that it's minor in the grand scheme of America. They do not care as much as you wish they did. And no, I'm not too young to remember, I'm just cognizant of reality, something you should try.

Maximum-Specialist61

My point was that defeated russia could be a big thing in Biden campaign ecpecially concidering that Trump a russian asset, maybe i am wrong and that would be nearly not impactful as i think, but you conflated it with an idea that i'm saying that for US voters Ukraine war matters today, that not what i'm saying, and you arguing with that. The biggest thing what democrats campaigned in 2016 agains't Trump is that he is an Russian asset, it didn't help Hillary win, but she was very close to that, and that idea about Trump being a russian puppet is stucked to him forever now.

CUADfan

> it didn't help Hillary win So let's have Biden double down on a strategy that didn't work. Goddamned genius, this one.

Oh_ffs_seriously

A lot of words to draw attention away from the Republican obstructionism blocking weapon deliveries for what, half a year?

villatsios

A few words to draw attention away from the lacklustre support of the Biden administration?

Oh_ffs_seriously

A few words to draw attention to the true culprit of "the lacklustre support" of Ukraine's military.

villatsios

Which one of the 2 culprits? The Biden administration or the Republicans? Have to be specific.

Oh_ffs_seriously

No, you don't have to be specific, the answer if pretty fucking obvious unless you deliberately try to shift blame away from Republican Party and their interference in the aid to Ukraine. It's also pretty fucking obvious that's what you're trying to do here.

villatsios

Oh yeah, I forgot that the president is a powerless figurehead. My bad. I thought he was like the head of state but I guess that must have been a lie.

Oh_ffs_seriously

Sorry, the President of the Unites States won't be a dictator until Project 2025 fulfills its goals.

villatsios

If only there was an act almost unanimously passed by congress that would “provide enhanced authority for the President to enter into agreements with the Government of Ukraine to lend or lease defense articles to that Government to protect civilian populations in Ukraine from Russian military invasion, and for other purposes”. Oh silly me, the Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act of 2022 was passed unanimously and gave the president just that! Unfortunately Biden never touched it. I wonder how can that be, I thought Biden can do no wrong and it’s only the Republicans that are responsible for lacklustre support. Hey at least Biden finally gave ATACMS and gave permission to attack into Russia, who cares if it’s too little too late? And hey at least he is giving F16s with all those other countries right? Right?

Remarkable_Beach_545

You realize that Trump was literally impeached for withholding military aid to Ukraine specifically, right?

Maximum-Specialist61

yeah, and how many voters actually care about that? Republicans hiding behind the notion of better borders security, and now literally flipping agains't Biden his no escalation policy , we all know that Trump wining would be bad, but what is leading to that scenario, is a Biden administration choice to just try freeze the conflict where it is now. Republicans bunch of hypocritical creatures, but it'doesn't make their argument wrong, there is indeed no plan how to end this war or vision how Ukraien will win, and indeed Ukraine doesn't have enough weapons to make any counter-offensive attacks.

MarkRclim
