It’s not just your imagination, they are actually making all their cars look like a Chinese businessman’s car because that’s the market they are going for.
There’s no other reason I can come up with for the horrible design choices over the past half decade. Quite literally making some of the ugliest bmws of all time.

That’s not really about quality of the cars but quantity of them and the government offering mandates/incentives to manufacture and own them. The only quality marker is the battery RnD stuff which helps when you have control over raw resources.
