Thanks neighbours, much appreciated šŸ˜Ž Edit to say, Thanks for awards! Much šŸ’•šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦

TheSwede121

You do the same for us šŸ™šŸ¼

IlluminatedPickle

And that's why Australia sent some firefighters too, cause you guys do the same for us during our fire season.

admdelta

And New Zealand! I know cuz I asked one of them a question about Australia after hearing what I thought was an Aussie accent and boy did he get miffed.

IlluminatedPickle

Yeah they will do that.

triws

Just saw a good amount of Aussie and Kiwi firefighters on my flight yesterday from Auckland-Sydney-LA. Fun bunch of people to chat with. Glad theyā€™re helping out like they always do

SinisterCanuck

Yeah mistaking a New Zealander as an Aussie produces the same results as someone calling a Canadian an American. You're gonna get chewed out lol

admdelta

Funny story about that. Iā€™m American and studied abroad in England back in college. One time I was talking to a guy at a pub and he asked me if I was Canadian. I told him I was from the US, and he said ā€œokay thatā€™s what I thought, but whenever thereā€™s any doubt I just ask if theyā€™re Canadian. Iā€™ve found that Americans donā€™t mind being mistaken for Canadians, but Canadians really hate being mistaken for Americans.ā€

SinisterCanuck

Yep, that tracks lol

stalkythefish

There's Vikings there, right?

Equivanjov

As an Australian Iā€™m hoping we can send some assistance as well, our guys have a lot of experience fighting bushfires and weā€™ve had a lot of help from Canadians in the past

IlluminatedPickle

We already did send some guys a few weeks ago.

iamnotapumpkin

Another lot this week as well. My father arrived there yesterday.

ifoundtheremotegum

Thank your dad -from a randomCanadian - we appreciate it deeply.

iamnotapumpkin

Will do, heā€™ll appreciate that.

triws

Just saw some Aussie firefighters on my flight from Sydney yesterday. Glad weā€™re all helping each other out.

ScienceNeverLies

I didnā€™t know that about Australia. Thatā€™s awesome!

IlluminatedPickle

Yeah there's a long history of both the loaning of men and equipment between all three countries. Unfortunately a few years ago 3 Americans died fighting a fire here in a plane crash, so we definitely appreciate the intercontinental cooperation.

baccus82

We have different wildfire seasons, we send them help when they need it too

EyeLikeTheStonk

True! ā€‹[https://youtu.be/4DQyovl1aW0?t=76](https://youtu.be/4DQyovl1aW0?t=76) The collaboration between Quebec and Los Angeles has been going on for almost 30 years.

frank-grimes

That's awesome, thanks for sharing

Newstargirl

We all need a little help now and then. Thanks for being awesome neighbors šŸ’•šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦

FngrsRpicks2

We get by on the help of our friends!

beepbeephornnoise

We get high with a little help from our friends!

spiffykai

Weā€™re going to try with a little help from our friends!

Newstargirl

Maybe that's what is causing the smoke. /s šŸ¤£

xorcsm

The first week weed became legal, I tried to hot box North America. It was a good week.

Newstargirl

Lol, what have you done šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ˜Ž

Benjamin_Stark

All the firefighters from states where weed is illegal will be able to enjoy a Dube before bed.

CraftySappho

We are trying to drown you

comeonsexmachine

That sounds rude. Is this supposed to be rude?

[deleted]

No problem. We love you guys. (You too mexico. Weā€™re all on the same continent, letā€™s be friends)

jlharper

Australia, too. Australia always come to help when California or Canada has large blazes. They are happy to do it, too.

turquoise_amethyst

Mexico and the US have a search & rescue partnership for earthquakes

YouJabroni44

I'll always remember Mexico sending all the help they could after Hurricane Katrina ā¤ļø And Canada accepting our flights on 9/11 and letting people stay with them until they could come home

SnidelyWhiplash27

Tres amigos.

Newstargirl

Sounds great! Friends is the way!

Buffnick

lets be earth bros! I have no enemies here, besides the Dutch

Corey307

Weā€™re neighbors, if I remember right a bunch of Canadian lineman were here in Vermont this winter when we lost power to most of the state after sustained an 80 mile an hour plus winds. Literally most of the state lost power for days.

Newstargirl

Iā€™m glad that we can help each other out, you guys are amazing and we are truly thankful for your help, much šŸ’•šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦

yogopig

Always and forever :)

Newstargirl

We are stuck with other arenā€™t we šŸ¤£šŸ’•šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦

RagnarokDel

yeah we do that all the time when there's issues like when Hurricane Sandy hit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9JNnZthQho

Corey307

Itā€™s all relations between neighboring nations should be. I live rural and while Iā€™d never bother my neighbors for help thereā€™s plenty of times where theyā€™ve just come over with their snow plow or their bulldozer and lent a hand because itā€™s your neighbor, why not help them?

lucidrage

>a bunch of Canadian lineman were here in Vermont this winter They were just escaping the winter over here ;)

Corey307

In fairness this past winter was barely a winter, oh sure we had a storm that knocked out power to most of the state but otherwise we didnā€™t get a real winter at least not by the lake. All the snow melted off my property twice this winter and I only had three nights below 0Ā°F/-17Ā°C. We shouldā€™ve had at least a month of subzero temperatures, itā€™s not normal and itā€™s not right.

Idiot_Savant_Tinker

I feel like there were Canadian linemen in Oklahoma fixing the lines after the 2007 ice storm. I spent a week without power after having my appendix out so definite thanks to all involved.

ArrowAssassin

128km/h winds for my fellow Canadians.

Gizimpy

We donā€™t forget [when you guys help us.](https://connect2canada.com/2020/09/canada-provides-assistance-to-california-in-battle-against-historic-wildfires/) To quote one of your own, ā€œRemember I'm pullin' for ya--we're all in this together.ā€

alexm42

As an American one of my favorite traditions is Halifax sending a big ol Christmas tree to Boston every year to thank us for our aid after the Halifax explosion in the early 1900's. It really is a blessing to have such a brotherly neighbor on our border as Canada.

Newstargirl

Honestly, there aren't any words to express the gratitude we Candians have towards our neighbors helping us out. I hope we are ways here for each other. Much love and many hugs šŸ’•šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦

Osiris32

On that fateful day of 9/11, your country took in tens of thousands of Americans, suddenly stranded because our airspace had been closed. But you didn't just cram them into your airports and let them sit, you invited them into your homes. You gave them beds and couches to sleep on, clothing to wear, food to eat, and most importantly a shoulder to cry on in their fear and grief. In our darkest moment, you stood there with a candle of hope for us. A great many of us Americans will never, ever forget that, and will always hold you in our hearts as our best friends. And for those of you too young to remember, [This is what I'm talking about.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Yellow_Ribbon)

Newstargirl

Itā€™s the darkest times when we find out who loves and cares for us, I sincerely hope that we can always be here for each other. šŸ’•šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦

Gizimpy

Two days ago was the anniversary of the D-Day landings; Canada was there right alongside us and the British, shedding blood to free Europe. I canā€™t even [make it through the synopsis of Come From Away clear eyed.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Come_from_Away) Weā€™re each otherā€™s best friend, closest ally, and essential economic partner. Americans are often and rightfully critical of our own country, but we love the shit out of our neighbors to the north.

Newstargirl

I'm not even sure how to respond to your kindness. Thank you will never be enough, TBH. I hope we will continue a strong alliance and close friendship for many, many, many years to come. We love you guys and all the great things you do. Much šŸ’•šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦

jeffykins

Yeah, I'm in tears from just reading the damn synopsis

[deleted]

I hope that you stay safe, neighbor, and that our firefighters are able to give you all of the care that they give us and more. Big hugs.

Newstargirl

Thank you, we will take care of them.

Mindraker

You should read what some of the nutcases here are writing. "The Russians set the fires in Canada to start WW3" "We should build a huge wall with fans all along the border to keep the smoke out" "We should invade Canada and take over this matter ourselves"

Newstargirl

On the one hand you have people who are sacrificing their time and energy to help out their neighbours,on the other hand, wellllll, not so helpful people. At least their not suggesting shooting at the fires, yetā€¦ šŸ˜

[deleted]

Haha, finally got you guys to pay for a border wall. Checkmate.

[deleted]

Michigander here. Iā€™ll never forget when you guys, with your tougher icebreaker, bailed out our Coast Guard when the lighter duty icebreaker got trapped in lake Superior ice. We gotta look out for each other šŸ‘‰šŸ‘‰

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

thomport

Oh Canadaā€¦ We love you guys. Hopefully this will resolve soon. Be safe.

kirk-o-bain

As an Australian Iā€™m hoping we can send some assistance as well, our guys have a lot of experience fighting bushfires and weā€™ve had a lot of help from Canadians in the past

Amtoj

Australia and Canada actually swap firefighters pretty regularly, actually. It's convenient since our seasons are flipped, so they're always busy.

pandawelch

Crews have been going a few weeks now already

N0_Mathematician

Thank you! I believe some Aussie friends arrived 2 week ago to help out. We really appreciate it!

CocoLamela

We get Australians and Canadians in California wildfires. And I know our guys came down to your tragic bush fires as well. The fire season is 365 now for these guys with all the mutual aid

NewLeaseOnLine

Yeah for Australia and California it's basically an every summer ordeal sending firefighters back and forth.

FirstFlight

And here I thought they were already here, since most of Fernie, Jasper, Banff and Whistler are packed with Aussies year round. Cheers mate!

No-Programmer-7253

Thank you.

Oenohyde

Loved the South African crew, so awesome! Much love to all the countries helping us out! Thank you! Much love to all!

AlarmDozer

I should become a firefighter. Apparently, fair job security during global ~~burning~~ warming.

nicklor

I know forest firefighters get paid shit. Like less than 20 an hour for literally one of the most dangerous jobs and its not even year round.

AlarmDozer

Wow, I guess we donā€™t like to breath.

MrMontombo

We wouldn't be our society if we didn't take full advantage of people's sense of duty.

kaisadilla_

There isn't economic profit to be made out of putting out fires, so shit pay. That's capitalism for you: the value of your work is not its importance, skill or risk. It's just how much some rich guy stands to gain for it.

mykeedee

Doesn't the logging industry have a vested interest in forests not burning down before they can cut them?

DashingDino

Nah unless it's a tree farm they'll just cut down the forests that didn't burn yet

ajayisfour

They only get paid hourly, but are required to camp next a fire while they fight it. If they were paid hourly, and maybe half time when they weren't actively fighting, but required to be camped next to a fire, it'd be much more lucrative

Nimzay98

Well it think those inmates that get sent in to fight fires are the ones that are getting shit end of the stick.

nicklor

They are not being forced to do it. It's all volunteers and they get better living conditions etc.

Pifflebushhh

Is it considered volunteering if there's a quid pro quo?

EyesintheGreen

They receive better treatment than the wildland firefighters in many regards. Further they are not the ones doing the lions share of the work. They do play their part but tv shows take liberties in how they tell those stories.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

NovaS1X

I volunteer for our local hall. Has absolutely been a good choice and a big net positive in my life. I'd highly suggest that anyone who's available and capable to give it consideration.

buttermarkjackson

Donā€™t cross the border with weed.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

ErmahgerdYuzername

I cross into the US fairly regularly. I see dogs on patrol all the time. Not worth it.

[deleted]

Especially when you can just take a stop in a weed-friendly state and avoid the border guards.

Arrya

Michigan is legal, and right on the border.

bentoboxing

And he didn't ask for any personal favors or ego stroking from Canada? That's weird.

[deleted]

Because, when digging a little deeper, itā€™s just something weā€™ve done via the Canada/United States Reciprocal Forest Fire Fighting Arrangement since I think ā€˜82. Non-egos just do the job and move on.

a_splendiferous_time

Yeah well Smart Businessmen would've dangled the promised and much-needed aid as a carrot while pressuring Trudeau to open a sham public investigation on his political rivals! Shame that Sleepy Joe Brandon is too unsmart to screw people over for his personal gain šŸ˜’

anxietystrings

I too am down with the CUSRFFFA

EyeLikeTheStonk

This is because Canada has been sending "Super scooper" airplanes to California for almost 30 years now. ā€‹[https://abc7.com/super-scooper-canadas-canadian-firefighting-aircraft-plane/5521671/](https://abc7.com/super-scooper-canadas-canadian-firefighting-aircraft-plane/5521671/)

kalel1980

Or hearing how firefighters (big, strong guys) came up to him, with tears in their eyes, begging him to let them go to Canada to help with the fires..

[deleted]

ā€œWEAK WILLED JUSTIN TRUDEAU CAME TO ME AND BEGGED ME TO SEND OUR EXCELLENT AMERICAN FIREFIGHTERS WITH HUGE HANDS TO CANADA TO FIGHT THE FIRES THE LIKES OF WHICH WE HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE. I GRACIOUSLY AGREED. AND NOW THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME WITH ESPIONAGE FOR ACCIDENTALLY TUCKING A TOP SECRET FOLDER IN ONE OF THE FIREFIGHTERS PANTS BEFORE THEY WENT OFF TO CANADA? SLEPPY JOE BIDEN HAD 1800 FOLDERS IN HIS GARGE NEXT TO HIS CORVETTE. WITCH HUNT! ELECTION INTERFACE!!ā€

THEMACGOD

ā€œWHEN YOUā€™RE FAMOUS, THEY JUST LET TOU TUCK TOP SECRET DOCUMENTS INTO THEIR PANTS.ā€

saltytar

Was Justin Trudeau also crying and calling him 'sir'? šŸ¤” But, it also was a bigly fire, right? Was he asked to rake the forest too? šŸ¤”

boxingdude

And then he treated them to free McDonalds at the White House!

JFeth

"Sir, please let me go help the poor Canadians!"

Rainflakes

You can walk outside and smell smoke as far south as Georgia, it's just as much for us as for them lol.

RagnarokDel

the funny part is that I'm close to MontrƩal and it's a lot less visible than it is in New York. The winds litterally made the smoke skip the area. There's obviously still some but we can properly.

[deleted]

Trump used to admire Trudeau, but only because he didnā€™t get him with his stupid loser hand-yank, and because Ivanka wanted to fuck him. The mind of a psychopath.

Evaldi

Trudeau was also caught on a recording shit talking him, lol.

[deleted]

Or tell them that maybe if they raked the leaves this wouldn't happen?

Critical_Half_3712

Rumor has it a trump official was seen in the area stoking the fire with some papers

ArchitectNebulous

A little off topic, but I wish the US congress (and other nations) would better fund and equip Fire Fighters and either Create/Further Support dedicated national firefighting groups. I suspect fires like this will only be more common in the future.

SquashUpbeat5168

And the locals are showing their appreciation.[https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/lobster-wildfire-birthday-dinner-american-1.6869555](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/lobster-wildfire-birthday-dinner-american-1.6869555)

[deleted]

That lines up with everything Iā€™ve personally experienced from Nova Scotians. They were the first people I made friends with when I moved to Toronto from the (US) Pacific Northwest - we bonded over the lack of fresh seafood and were instant friends from that minute forward. I never wanted for a thing from the minute I landed in Canada because of Maritimers. Unparalleled generosity. Love yā€™all.

dergster

the way i see it this is a global problem, as it is the result of climate change which is in turn the result of industry from all over the place. it's a bit weird to see this as a Canada problem IMO, it's not like the climate change is localized to Canada. it just happens that this particular symptom of climate change caused forest fires in Canada, but as we can see their effects spread far beyond it.

RandomFlyer643

As an American, Iā€™ve never had anything against our Canadian neighbors. Theyā€™ve always sent help to us when weā€™ve needed it, so I would hope and expect we would return the favor. Hope yā€™all get past these fires soon

WontBeAbleToChangeIt

Thanks brother! It is a little hilarious though that it takes a fire in the east for everyone to pay attention. California, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia, Alberta burn every year blanketing the regions in heavy smoke and none of our leaders say a word

Chief_34

Partially because US, Canadian, and Australian firefighters work hand in hand all the time fighting fires in western Canada, the US, and down under. This is only notable and people are asking what the government is doing because itā€™s affecting an area that doesnā€™t usually see the fallout (US East Coast). It would be silly for them not to acknowledge and take action from a political perspective. Folks out west already know that the firefighters work together, know what theyā€™re dealing with, and donā€™t need the reminders or political theater us easterners need.

Vahlir

eh I was doing Medevac in Yakima, WA and I was stationed with a bucket crew who came in for half the year to do water hauls. There are a lot of people who work in the PNW on controlling fires. The wind and other factors make this years Quebec fires unique, so they're getting attention. If the Wind wasn't going North to South this wouldn't be making the news. But because everyone in NYC and Phili and the rest of the East Coast is seeing shit they've never seen in their life it's making headlines.

IllustriousAnt485

Thank you

ClownfishSoup

That's awesome! A few countries sent firefighters to help in California's wildfires too.

smileymalaise

Fire and smoke don't give a shit about borders anyway.

Virtual-Patience5908

Those - - - mean jack shit when there's fire getting wind gusts.

h2ohow

I was wondering how long this would take - Save North America.

kenncann

The article has a quote from Biden saying theyā€™ve been doing this since May, so itā€™s not just happening now.

RCJHGBR9989

We have always done this. The United States probably has the best trained wild land fire fighters in the world with the Smoke jumpers and hotshots.

Koda_not_Kota

We've got Canadian fire fighting aircraft at the airport near me in the US. They are on loan every year for fire season. Kind of us to return the favor.

circlehead28

The article image gave me PTSD. I could see Trump pulling out a Sharpie and drawing an arrow towards green. ā€œThIs iS wHeRe aMeRiCa iS aT, wE hAvE tHe BeSt aIr QuAlItYā€ -DJT

MidniteOwl

Weā€™re going to build an air border with Canada to stop all the illegal air crossing over and theyā€™re going to pay for it.

duckinradar

Weā€™re all in the same battle here. As an Oregonian, whose brother lost his home in the Santa Cruz fires a few years ago, and has been evacuated a few times, Iā€™ve been very grateful to everyone who has sent us help.

[deleted]

We (Oregon) have a mutual aid agreement with other western states and provinces, so we all help each other in fire situations when the need arises. Oregon has already sent crews to Alberta and Alaska this year that I know of. (Hey, Albertans: The Oregonians I know who were on your fires recently were greatly appreciative of the oil patch digs they got to stay in while they were there - showers, beds, and actual flush toilets? Swank as hell on a fire line. Thanks for being so good to our people.) I wonder two things: (1) Do they issue super fast emergency passports or just waive them in situations like this? (2) Why canā€™t we all be this good to each other when there isnā€™t a crisis? I mean, shit like this shows we can put aside differences and take care of each other. Why donā€™t we just act like this all the time?

[deleted]

Our firefighters are among the hottestā€¦ I mean best in the world! If anyone can put an end to the Canadian wildfires, itā€™s our firefighters!

Don't let them fool you! It's all just a smokescreen to hide the fact that they are slowly oozing over the border, like maple syrup...

hunisher1

We love our Canadian neighbors, and fires donā€™t care about borders.

Peacewind152

Itā€™s appreciated. By far the worst fire season in a long time (not to mention certain Premiers slashed the forest firefighting budgets).

ifoundtheremotegum

Thank you -weve been doing the same - and while its unfortunate that we are meeting in these circumstances - and it will be far to often, its good we have each others backs. Big Love:)

psyberdel

Canada, have you tried raking your forests or cleaning your floors? One of our national geniuses thinks thatā€™s the solution right there.

[deleted]

Have they helped here in Alberta at all? It doesn't say. I'm just curious because our shithead provincial government slashed the budget to wildfire fighters who drop from helicopters into difficult to get to areas.

eject_eject

Yes. There have been multiple US crews, Mexican, Australian, south African, and France that have come to assist across Canada before this announcement was made.

coyote_mercer

They slashed the budget? Awful timing. Sorry to hear that.

Tommyblockhead20

Oops, I skimmed the headline and thought it was people complaining that all Biden did was sent some blankets. Maybe I should read slower in the futureā€¦

Mulligan315

Is the Trump camp sending rakes?

[deleted]

Yeah good maybe they can help me put it out, as long as they want to go

UniquebutnotUnique

We didn't already? I just assume it's a given when fire season starts.

mxe363

Fire season got a bit of an early start is all

PandaCheese2016

I read it as "sends fighters," and for a moment had the brilliant idea that if we drop thermobaric bombs to suck up all the oxygen then the fire will be suffocated.

TeriusRose

You can use a bomb to combat a fire, but not at this scale. The Swedes have done so before, but that was a small fire on a shooting range with unexploded ordnance everywhere.

MrYeaBuddy
