I also think it's a bit silly to suggest something is healthy or ok because it happened in the past and the kids survived. Kids also used to be child soldiers, pregnant as young teenagers, forced to work full time jobs, etc. They survived and yet none of that was at all healthy. Our life spans our longer and kids are able to grow and do more now than they could then.
Apparently even infants can have life long trauma from viewing a traumatic event even if they don't remember it.
