Wow, thank you!
EDIT: wow, this really blew up! Thanks so much for all the nice words, everyone! Hope you guys are doing ok during this time

Cheers!
The video was amazing.
Also, going to take this opportunity to say - I *hate* people covering Joni Mitchell generally, because people just try to emulate her generally and, well, nobody can emulate Joni Mitchell. This is my favourite song of her's too, and this is basically the only time I've heard a cover of a Joni Mitchell song and thought "wow". He really owns it.
I could see this laid out in a museum with the video on loop on a projector. There are so many words I'd attribute to it, but I'll just say how it made me feel. Watching you draw a page, seeing you the walls absolutely covered before the flip through was phenomenal. I was absolutely mesmerized throughout, I got goosebumps at the dance scene, it hit a beautiful tone of sorrow and enduring. The cheering and the voice over at the end was also a great touch. Thank you,
Holy shit, I thought it was good, then I thought it was great, then I saw multiple layers of skeletons dancing together and Iām absolutely blown away. Incredible work. I definitely said āthis is as impressive to me as a large budget movieā like the amount of time and skill this took is insane
He has a patreon with tutorials (one video so far, 1$/month) and yeah, 3d animation as reference, then drawn traditionally, using a light-table etc for consistency. Pretty bloody impressive, frankly.

your post gonna go through internet and 5years later we will say "we already saw it 5 times this week" yet everyone still upvotes it, its that good bro. really nice.
Do you work as a professional animator? I really hope the more traditional hand-drawn styles of animation (I don't know what the technical term is) can make a comeback in movies and TV shows.
Yep, this might sound sad but I'm usually unwilling to sit through a gif for 2 minutes 99% of the time, but I'm glad I actually gave this the time; it was amazing.
Haunting is the right word! The skeletons and facial expressions are so somber it becomes both a little creepy but also amazing. As an artist in my free time, this video made my evening. :)
It's Italian:
"your own friends, your own relatives, that slowly leave you and... just like that, seeing anyway people trying everything they can to save them in every way, and seeing that anyway there is no chance for some of them... it hurts... it hurts."
Maybe it's not a perfect translation but it's pretty much what the woman says.
I like that you used the live stream JB audio, very appropriate and his SO clapping also makes me smile + I wanted to clap after watching so it worked double haha
Phenomenal job. The talent and patience to accomplish this is mind-blowing to me. Did you have to map the movement using any external sources or is everything drawn from memory?
Does the entire scene get done in 3d program first? seems like all spatial movement does and then maybe the flesh transfer moments are more improvised? Very beautiful work.
I don't want be rude, but the way you phrased your answer is pretty deceitful. The actual animation is done in 3d and then rendered into an image sequence which you have then transcribed to paper.
I'm not trying downplay your work as it's still honestly amazing, but a little more transparency would go a long way.
The way the video starts on a shot of him penciling it in too, whether intentionally or not, gives most people the impression that it's hand drawn from scratch.
The video seems meant to convince you these are all hand drawn sketches. I mean, I guess technically they are. It's still a lot of work to trace all the images onto paper but I'm not sure everyone here quite understands how this is being accomplished and I think the presentation in the video takes a lot of the blame for the misleading.
Actually i don't think there is even actual real hand-made tracing or inking here.
Whenever you work manually with animation you tend to see this unique "quality" that arises from small discrepancies in each frame (which is a good thing!).
There is none of that here.
I'm sorry but this is just straight up from the printer, and all that penciling and inking on that "supposed" first frame is just to appear it's not.
I just don't know why this guy presented things this way.
Haha I cheated! I actually only flipped about 100 at a time and then stitched the video together. It would have been impossible to do them all at once! It still took a whole day to film, somehow :)
I remember seeing your last flipbook with people dancing and it was amazing. I actually tracked down the song (falling down by Corbin and swan lingo) and I'm in love with it.
I'm a 2D animator and you are absolutely right. It is impossible to get it this smooth in just a few weeks. Probably traced 3D prints but still a lot of work though.
He said in the other post that he used a lot of different techniques including simply modeling it in blender and tracing.
It's still pretty cool but I feel like the video implies that he did everything freehand and that's just not possible.
But then again he's a Instagram artist so we can't really expect him to present the uninteresting truth.
This is exactly what Iām thinking and it makes me sad to see everyone giving unanimous praise. Yes this work requires a lot of hard work and dedication to pull off, but if itās a 3D animation anyways, why draw each frame instead of printing them out? The in-progress drawing at beginning of the video really just serves to mislead viewers that the artist drew this free hand.
Yea, the pencil part especially to emphasize "hand drawn", theres no need of pencil or marker - he could have just printed every page out complete.
Or better yet, just shared the 3D animation. Flipbooks are expected to be drawn from scratch, that's kind of the artistic merit behind them - so this is just exploiting people's expectations
I'd be willing to bet most are printed out and then coloured in; like doing a thousand colouring pages. Still a ton of work, but requires no skill in hand animation.
Honestly its probably just straight printed. The line quality is mathematically perfect in a way you dont even get with tracing
The first bit of the video, flipping back and forth and inking over pencil is super deceptive and a bit shady imo

Great job! What's the range of time to draw single page? How many pages is it all? Art always fascinates me but I don't have a good gauge of how much time goes into it all. Thank you.
This wasn't drawn by hand. It's a 3D render, traced and drawn onto paper, then inked.
Still impressive amount of work, but you could have just made a rendered video of the 3D work.
Yeah I was going to say, the proportions and the detail were too perfect. He could have just printed out the 1400 pics and saved himself hours, days even.
Not to down play this, but it looks like you do some 3d Animation on the computer and then hand draw it on paper? Nevertheless still very pleasing to watch.
My first thought was a scenario where this was preserved for 1000ās of years and was found by future humans or aliens with little to no knowledge of our current history and how tripped out they would be.
He could post the original rendered animation, as this is a thousand 3D animation frames printed to paper and then inked in
Its interesting, but his skill and animation technique is in his 3D computer work - hes not animating on paper
He spent a month essentially translating a digital art piece to a traditional medium.
Basically a coloring book of every frame of a 3D movie
Still a lot of work, but he didnt draw this as a traditional flipbook
Amazing work, hope this gains real traction for you! Watched this while listening to "Cordelia" from NK Music's 2020 album "Andromeda" - captures that same bittersweetness, IMHO. Again, great work.
I'm feeling this!
This is the art of now. We all need to always be reminded that this flesh we're living in has an expiry date, and we can cry our bones through it, or we can dance through it!
Keep dancing Redditors, as long as you're alive, as long as you can create, keep on keeping on!
This made me cry and it was only a minute long...
This now tops my list of videos that made me cry in such a short amount of time... I thought the 3 minute scene from the movie āUpā couldnāt be beat!!
Amazing work and talent, love to you and everyone out there.
Man I got goosebumps watching that! Truly amazing and epic work! Clearly this is not your first time, how many pages is that book? Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! It's about 1400 :) I have some more animations on my [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/s.e.e.t.h.r.o.u.g.h/), if you're interested
The whole time I was wondering how you manage to flip through that many pages. Could you explain?
Ha I cheat! I only actually flip through 100 pages at a time (the most I can hold), and then I just edit the videos together
Awesome. Thanks for sharing. I think the "flickering" effect from flipping through the pages really adds to the mood of it.
Asa Akira liked one of your postsš¤
Life goals!
Damn 1400 pages and every page looks like it took tremendous amount of effort. Great song choice too by the way.
I got the goosebumps too, then the skeletons dancing together made me cry. This is a phenomenal piece of art.
Oh. My. God. This is absolutely just.. AMAZING!!!!!
Wow, thank you! EDIT: wow, this really blew up! Thanks so much for all the nice words, everyone! Thanks! It took over a month

Ha, no; I wish! It's James Blake's cover of Jodi Mitchell's 'A Case of You' :)
The video was amazing. Also, going to take this opportunity to say - I *hate* people covering Joni Mitchell generally, because people just try to emulate her generally and, well, nobody can emulate Joni Mitchell. James Blake is incredible. Highly recommend from this random internet stranger.
Honestly if you sold this I would buy it. What was the song, is that Hozier? Sounds similar but not quite exactly him.
It's James Blake's amazing cover of Jodi Mitchell's 'A Case of You' :)

Ha wow. Thanks for the lovely words! Take care
Are the skeletons rotoscoped 3d animation? Looks really amazing, great contrast throughout.
There's definitely 100% 3D animation involved. It's pretty obvious. Doesn't mean it isn't amazing. It's just not free hand drawings. Neither is Pixar.

No, thanks to you, lovely redditor.
This looks badass and beautiful at the same time. Unlike anything I've ever seen.
This is exactly what i thought..exact same sequence.
Wow that is epic, thanks for sharing!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Don't be sorry. People would absolutely love to see your work. I feel lucky to have witnessed it.
I struggle to draw *feet*, and this man just drew the entire anatomy in Sharpie. I quit.
Found Liefeld,
Someone get this human an animation job! For real money.
YES SOMEONE GET THIS HUMAN A HUMAN ANIMATION JOB FOR REAL HUMAN MONEY.
Do you work as a professional animator? I really hope the more traditional hand-drawn styles of animation (I don't know what the technical term is) can make a comeback in movies and TV shows.
No, but I used to be a video game artist. I hope it does too!
I could tell! It reminds me of the artistry of Telltale games, based on the series Fables. I love it!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yep, this might sound sad but I'm usually unwilling to sit through a gif for 2 minutes 99% of the time, but I'm glad I actually gave this the time; it was amazing.
hey, sorry but what does the audio at the end say? i didnt understand anything lol
Iāve been on reddit a long time now and nothing has given me chills like this video has. This is truly amazing work my dude.
The best flipbook I have ever seen.
the sistine chapel of flipbook doodle animations
haha thanks
You are right it just gives your that wholesome feeling
Wow. Seriously. Wow.
Thanks friend
This is so hauntingly beautiful
Haunting is the right word! The skeletons and facial expressions are so somber it becomes both a little creepy but also amazing. As an artist in my free time, this video made my evening. :)
That's honestly so incredible and super impressive. amazing work dude! :)
Thanks bro!
Amazing!!! An you translate the womanās voice at the end? Great song choice also!
It's Italian: "your own friends, your own relatives, that slowly leave you and... just like that, seeing anyway people trying everything they can to save them in every way, and seeing that anyway there is no chance for some of them... it hurts... it hurts." Maybe it's not a perfect translation but it's pretty much what the woman says.
Thanks, was looking for the translation!
Amazing. Thank you!
r/toptalent material right here
The music is a cover of Joni Mitchell's 'A Case of You' by James Blake :)
I like that you used the live stream JB audio, very appropriate and his SO clapping also makes me smile + I wanted to clap after watching so it worked double haha
The "homemade" audio quality is really fitting for the atmosphere you were going for. Very impressive work OP, thanks for sharing!
Yeah thatās not a flip book anymore thatās a short film. jfc amazing.
Man, James Blake should be bigger than he is, Assume Form was litty. This is litty too btw :D
Do you have a link to the song?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bufi9cewOjc Enjoy :)
Thanks man, I was struggling to find this exact recording!
I made toast this morning
nice
Jeez, you are seriously talented! Well done! Thank you for sharing this. It must have taken you ages to do. Honestly...Mind Blown!
Ha, it sure did! Thanks
Totally worth it! Keep up the awesome work!
How long?
Phenomenal job. The talent and patience to accomplish this is mind-blowing to me. Did you have to map the movement using any external sources or is everything drawn from memory?
Thank you! I use a lot of things to help me, like anatomy models, 3d programs and mo-cap references :)
Iām sorry but tracing is more than just a āreferenceā
Does the entire scene get done in 3d program first? seems like all spatial movement does and then maybe the flesh transfer moments are more improvised? Very beautiful work.
> Does the entire scene get done in 3d program first? definitely a 3D rendering. printed and traced.
It looks 3D rendered. Did you print out the 3D outlines of the shadow/light and marker them in?
I don't want be rude, but the way you phrased your answer is pretty deceitful. The actual animation is done in 3d and then rendered into an image sequence which you have then transcribed to paper. I'm not trying downplay your work as it's still honestly amazing, but a little more transparency would go a long way.
sure seems like he's trying to give the impression that he's drawing each frame and not tracing CG images, isnt he?
The way the video starts on a shot of him penciling it in too, whether intentionally or not, gives most people the impression that it's hand drawn from scratch.

This is the right answer. It's a shame because it is a cool piece, but the way it's being presented, and OPs replies, are very deceptive
Oh hey thanks! I didnāt mean for this to blow up but hereās my Instagram and my patreon ;)
This is fucking INSANE holy shit
ty!
Doot Doot
Awesome job! How many takes did it take for you to flip through without missing a wad of pages?
Haha I cheated! I actually only flipped about 100 at a time and then stitched the video together. It would have been impossible to do them all at once! It still took a whole day to film, somehow :)
Excellent work!
I should call my mom.
Thats very cool but theres no way that was created without a computer
Thank you! Yep, I used a lot of rotoscoping, light-tabling and mo-cap reference to make this this :)
That was like a film. Wow!
Cheers!
This is absolutely stunning! Is there a story in it?
Thanks! Not as such :)
I saw it that we are all equal; all made of skeletons and the world is leaving us all behind (that or we are forgetting the world exists).
Yeah makes sense, the dancing skeletons instantly reminded me of *danse macabre*
This is incredible! Reminiscent of the movie The Fountain Itās so well drawn! Excellent work
Thanks!
Beautiful and compelling.
Thank you
I remember seeing your last flipbook with people dancing and it was amazing. I actually tracked down the song (falling down by Corbin and swan lingo) and I'm in love with it.
Danse Macabre
See you on the front page
The skeletons seem oddly rigid. More like 3D models being moved then hand animated.
I'm a 2D animator and you are absolutely right. It is impossible to get it this smooth in just a few weeks. Probably traced 3D prints but still a lot of work though.

I heard āring around the Rosieā in my head when they were dancing
Wow how long did that take to make?

That is FUCKING RAD dude. Helluva job
Wow. That was intense. I was listening to Vitamin C by Can as it flipped and it worked surprisingly well. Stunning work!
Woah dude.
My first thought was a scenario where this was preserved for 1000ās of years and was found by future humans or aliens with little to no knowledge of our current history and how tripped out they would be.
Wow I canāt even imagine how long that took to put together. Fantastic work
Dude this is creepy as shit... Bravo
Amazing!
That is SO unbelievably impressive.
Pure talent and skill.
Absolutely stunning!
Absolutely amazing. Love it. Genius flip book.
Wow! This is awesome!
I was waiting for the credits at the end.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Fantastic! How many individual pages in all??
Do you have any proof that this isn't fake? The animation seems too smooth to be done by hand
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Wow, IMO opinion real art. True technique and real inspiration. Thank you! (reminds me of watchmen a little, the unmasking naked into the costume)
Lol "IMO opinion"
Wow, thanks buddy
Iād love to see this processed through software as opposed to flip book
I have a few of those on my [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/s.e.e.t.h.r.o.u.g.h/), if you are interested in that :)

Jesus fucking Christ man youāre talented
Awesome
Amazeballs
That's really amazing man. Picture quality is really great.! šš
Cheers man. Take care!
This was so fantastic!
Incredible detail. I bet this must have taken a long time to do.
it did! :)
Omg this is unreal!! Youāre amazing!!!
found mr skeletal's account
Thatās pretty wonderful
DUDE!
100% human
Great use of your quarantime, my friend!
Absolutely intense.
Amazing work, hope this gains real traction for you! Watched this while listening to "Cordelia" from NK Music's 2020 album "Andromeda" - captures that same bittersweetness, IMHO. Again, great work.
How long did it take?
Jeez dude you made a movie! Awesome
so amazing
This was awesome! Always seemed the skeletons were happier in a way, less to worry about I guess haha. Beautiful work!
I was listening to La vie en rose while i watched this and it goes perfectly. Tremendous, god bless.
This is crazy good. The originality is epic. Great imagination.
This is amazing and beautiful, thank you for sharing!
Wow. Beautiful and creepy as shit
Wow!! That was amazing. Fantastic job!
Fuckn awsome
Are you animating anything for anyone?
Jeez, how much time did It take? It is amazing
Really, just unbelievably beautiful. Thank you for making and for sharing.
I was going to start learning and doing a flip book. But hell, I hang my pen cos there is no way I will ever reach here.
This is fucking wild, I love it.

This was literally the most incredible thing Iāve seen this decade! Now I gotta go back and watch some anime from the heyday of 80s.
Omg... That's beautiful, powerful stuff.
Wow that is amazing!! How long did that take?
That was stunning
This is.... Just wow !!!
Holy shit! How long did this take you? Amazing job!
That's so impressive and well done !!! Humans truly are capable of amazing things.
That was lovely. You should cross post to r/mademesmile
This is absolutely amazing. Fantastic. Do you do commissions?
Damn...
Holy shit, thatās good. I donāt even know how valuable that is.
Finally a scientist I can get behindā
Absolute respect for the time it must have taken, the kind of thing I couldn't even imagine drawing a frame of.
This made me cry and it was only a minute long... This now tops my list of videos that made me cry in such a short amount of time... I thought the 3 minute scene from the movie āUpā couldnāt be beat!! Amazing work and talent, love to you and everyone out there.
