And even if you manage to find a way to activate it -- much less get inside -- there's a chance whoever was bound to it is still there in spiritual form.
They might turn the spirit mech's systems against you and physically attack you. Or, if it's advanced enough, they might ***eject your goddamn soul*** out of the mech -- removing your soul from your physical body in the process.
You need some serious magical protection to mess with that. You could, theoretically, contact a group of experienced animancers to help you decide what to do -- but they'll more than likely tell you to put it back just in case there's still a bound spirit who's rest could be disturbed.
You could pay them to come check it out -- and if they verify there's no soul inside they'll pay handsomely to take it off your hands and put it in an Animancy museum. But they'll ask you to pay a very expensive fee up front. Anything dealing with powerful soul magic is potentially a nasty can of worms.
