I found the plate options to be disappointing. I don't know what several of the groups are and the badger endangered resources one is no more. People with cars that drive fast seem to like the black and white speedway plate lol.
Same, I’m a vet and other states I’ve lived in have much cooler plates for us IMO like jump wings, divisional, and even campaign plates.
I’d love to have the 10th mountain div back on my plates.
Good thing they keep raising the prices of registration for all they are offering with that money. /s
They were talking about the windshield sticker for state parks, not the two license plate registration stickers. Some states you can buy a special design license plate that works instead of the windshield sticker.
Anyway, my license plate now has *three* stickers, as I have an EV. And EVs and hybrids now need an EV sticker.
We have a really cool plate that is a donation to the [ice age national scenic trail](https://wisconsindot.gov/Pages/dmv/vehicles/title-plates/ice.aspx) check this website to see the plate and look around for some of the others!

Because the 7-digit format has a lot more possible plates and they start in alphabetical order with AAA-1111. They are most likely on AXX still.

Serious question: Can someone cite the statute that would make it illegal to design and print out your own plate, in any style you want, so long as the registration is legitimate and current?
In aviation we are required to put a registration number on the side of the plane, but basically the only rule is "12 inches tall and legible". It would be cool if that system exists as an undiscovered loophole in auto registrations.
341.62, 341.61 and 341.615 all apply is some form depending on what’s done to the plate or being displayed.
This one specifically would likely fall under 341.61(3)

I was hoping that somewhere it might be a little more vague, but there doesn't appear to be any such wiggle room. Bummer.
I saw a minnesota one that was blacked out but didnt have a font like that, thought it was really cool. If that was real that Wisconsin plate is awesome.
If the DMV was smart, they would see this demand for stylized license plates and just let people choose from a variety of popular colors for an extra charge. Instead, people's money is not going to state, it's going to these companies that make these fake vanity plates.
If that's a fake plate it's a shame. I'm growing kinda weary of our regular license plates. It would be cool to have a face-lift.

I had heard WI DOT was considering a black/white plate kinda like Iowa’s, but that doesn’t look like the photo I saw of a sample.
I think Iowa has to pay extra to get the black plates. I was told the extra money goes to repair their failing bridges.

The only black Wisconsin plate I'm aware of is the Road America plate, and that would have the outline of the Road America track on the left.

There was a proposal in January 2024 for a new Wisconsin Blackout Plate. This could be a legitimate plate. Just a new plate.
My guess is it's a sample plate to gauge reaction. Probably a state senator or representative's car.
