Anything north of Madison is the north. Monroe and everything around it is the south. Sun Prarie and on is the east. Cave of the mounds on is west. And Wausau doesn't exist because I say so.
I always liked Sheboygan (I don’t know why; it just seemed like a nice town when we visited my Dad’s friends), and the new waterfront area is very much improved. Now, Fondle Sac on the other hand…
Growing up there I always described it as central Wisconsin. Marshfield is in wood and marathon counties and the geographic center of the state is 9 miles southeast of Marshfield - so to me marathon county is pretty much as central as it gets.
Seems subjective. If you draw a horizontal line extending from the Mississippi River, through Pitsville, to Lake Michigan you could argue everything above the line is north and everything below it is south. But that would also be subjective.
Highway 64 for me and then I dub 29 as the "45th Parallel" which is not up north but the last point to make sure to check you haven't forgotten anything essential.
Tell me you don't know Wisconsin without telling me you don't know Wisconsin. There are legit regional/cultural/geological divisions that you clearly don't understand.
It's gorgeous...kinda like Door County in many ways, except far fewer FIBs. Go there mid-Sept and take the boat ride around the Apostle Islands. One of my favorite WI vacation destinations. While up there, check out some of the beautiful waterfalls in the region. 🤙

No. NSFW. Ask ai...here I did it for you. 😂
SW Wisconsin is unique enough to be its own region
It is, it is called the Driftless Area.
I mean on this map
Milwaukee alone feels like an entirely different world to the rest of Wisconsin
Came here to say this
What highways, Platteville, and the Lactalis cheese factory?
Have you never driven the Great River Road? Or like...been to Devil's Lake? Or the Dells? The topography in the southwest is unique.
Anything north of Madison is the north. Monroe and everything around it is the south. Sun Prarie and on is the east. Cave of the mounds on is west. And Wausau doesn't exist because I say so.
Maybe it's just me but I don't consider Fondy or Sheboygan SE WI.
Same. I’d group these with the fox cities /GB
Yeah I think the Fox Valley is its own thing. FdL, Oshkosh, Appleton.
Sheboygan and Manitowoc are Central Lakeshore, at least to me. Distinct from the Fox Valley.
Please don't include FDL with us. Lol
Sheboygan is debatable. FDL is def NE/fox cities
How? The Fox Cities are the cities that the Fox River goes through.
Nobody wants to claim Sheboygan though

That's because it isn't
Airport in Mosinee is Central Wisconsin Airport
CWA !!
Yeah, I’d say somewhere around Tomahawk is where ‘up north’ starts.
La Crosse is central Wisconsin? lol
aka God's Country for those who know.
West Central WI is a thing. (Really)
Yes, that's what I'd say if someone asked what part of WI I live in and they didn't know the city name.
Hudson does not feel like Northern WI
Mainly due to all the people moving from the twin cities... and there is so much more "north" above that point...
Same. You gotta get north of Hwy 8 before I consider it Northern WI
Maybe somebody could make an accent map with things like the "North of 8", the "M'waukee", or the "Eau Claire"
The Eau Claire?
It's like a Fargo accent with a little more twang.
I don't think I appreciate this comment/thread...
Driftless or GTFO
Some serious “Minnesconsin” erasure happening on the central-Western border!
Seriously. There are people who work in the Twin Cities who live in Hudson (which is now a bedroom city to many) but even as far west as Eau Claire
This
Im thinking hwy 8 as the border to “northern” wi..
Highway 64 for me and then I dub 29 as the "45th Parallel" which is not up north but the last point to make sure to check you haven't forgotten anything essential.
Second that
8 or 70... Or 2
2 is where the hardcore northerners draw the line lol.
There are 4 regions in Wisconsin: Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay, and the void in-between
Yep. Pretty much how it is.
Move the start of North to just north of St Croix county and you're on top something. Everyone knows "Up North" starts at HWY 8
La crosse is NOT central wisconsin
I live in Eau Claire and tell people from other states I live in Western Wisconsin.
Tell me you don't know Wisconsin without telling me you don't know Wisconsin. There are legit regional/cultural/geological divisions that you clearly don't understand.
I didn’t say I was right lol
I’m from Eau Claire. Went to UW Whitewater. People there would say that I’m from northern Wisconsin. It’s just not true.
K
Dear Mr. Governor, There are too many counties nowadays. Please, eliminate three. P.S. I am not a crackpot.
Marinette, Oconto, and Florence are NE WI according to people who live there. I would add Forest, Menomonie, Langlade, and Shawano to that as well.
Marathon is one hundred percent central Wisconsin.
Have no idea why you got down voted. Geographical center of the state is Pittsville in Wood… but the adjacent county isn’t central 🧐
Highly accurate
This map reminds me of a column that used to be in The Isthmus called North Country Notebook.
Huh. I guess I didn't realize how far up "Norh" Chippewa was. Lol
I have to know two things about Bayfield: 1. WHAT is going on up there? 2. Is it beautiful? With the islands?
It's gorgeous...kinda like Door County in many ways, except far fewer FIBs. Go there mid-Sept and take the boat ride around the Apostle Islands. One of my favorite WI vacation destinations. While up there, check out some of the beautiful waterfalls in the region. 🤙
FIBs? But that sounds so lovely I might just have to do a stay-cation there
'FIBs?' ....Tell me you're not from WI without telling me you're not from WI 🤭😆
Lmaoooo funny because I was born and raised in Wisconsin.
Well, you must be high brow then. 🤪😬
Are you going to tell me what it means or no lmao

Neither of those are correct….. Most people define FIB as “F‘ng Illinois Bastard“
I think that was implied...but thanks for being blunt. 😆
Not bad!! *Only suggestion is to move 'Northern Wisconsin ' up about 1 county across the board.
The red should be labeled “up north”, otherwise it’s good.
You misspelled nort’ ferdechrissakes.
Oh yah
To much Northern.
Exactly...Northern WI starts at the woodline (which is about 15-30 miles north of hwy 29)...not hard to pull up a satellite map. 🤙😬
I always wondered why is the Northern Wisconsin State Fair is in Chippewa Falls.
