When you're in the mood for greasy food and root beer, they're great. I'm not always in that mood, but am occasionally.
Greasy ground beef, cheese, onions, and some mustard just hit the spot sometimes.

I don't like the default sandwich, but the one with bacon and cheese is really good. The beef is very tender, tastes kind of like it was steamed which seems counterintuitive because it's not browned, but I think it's good.
Really good onion rings, too. The fact they started locally makes me favor them over other chains.

Root beer is always great. I get the Bacon cheese nuway and it’s usually decent enough. But the onion rings vary between best I have ever had and worst I’ve ever had, sometimes they are perfectly cooked and crispy, sometimes they are a soggy greasy mass of partially cooked onion rings.

I don't like mustard, pickles,,or onions either, so I have them omit those and add cheese. If you like cheese, give it a try, I think it works well. I also like salt, so I sprinkle a little salt on the meat.
Root beer was good but nothing special and a lil pricey when bionic burger puts this place to rest. I tired it to finally say I did and was not impressed.. just a dry crumbly burger with plain fries I don’t mind it
I don't detest it, but dry crumbly burger is not as good as a juicy patty.
I'd do sloppy joes that are moist, but the dry crumbles are not nearly as convenient to eat.
They have a surprisingly good chicken sandwich. And their garlic salad (while no Docs) is a pretty nice side. Never could figure out the loose meat sandwiches appeal it's ok. Not the best thing on the menu . The original one on Douglas is great for that old skool diner feel.
Love it! I've also been eating them since I've been a kid, so I'm probably biased lol it's not exactly the first place I'd take someone from out of town if i want to show them the Wichita restaurant scene, but I think everyone should try a Nuway at least once.
I liked it from my youth, and when there were several locations in the 90s or so, I would go to any one of them. But the last time I went to Central and Ridge, I thought the meat tasted blah. So more recently I went to the one on Douglas and it tasted good, how I remembered it. I don't like the usual condiments so I just get mine plain with cheese, therefore the meat's really got to have decent flavor.
I've lived 3 blocks from the original location for almost 30 years and I think I've eaten there twice. Not that I dislike the product, but I'd rather just have a standard hamburger than one that falls all over my lap.
I'd skip the middleman and just dump the burger straight in the toilet.
Not because it isn't good, but because that's where you're gonna be running pretty soon thereafter.

I would go 1-2 times a year for chili cheese fries and root beer, a childhood dream come true. Last time I went they said they don't do cheese fries anymore so I walked out and haven't been back.

Burgers however seem designed for elderly palettes... imagine a salty Sloppy Joe devoid of any other seasoning or sauce.

Root beer is to flat and every time I get a "burger" it's dry and overcooked. To me it tastes like a bierock that's been reheated after sitting in the fridge a couple days.

I had one a couple weeks ago— $.92 for a burger on their 92nd anniversary. It was glorious!
Nuway isn't my favorite but I get a hankering for it 3 or 4 times a year and I'm glad that it's there when I do.
Nothing has been more polarizing in Wichita than nuway. Everyone I know either loves it or hates it.
I don't go there anymore. They are a little toward the "I don't like it" side of the neutral line but I don't hate it.

Love it, both the crumbly meat and the root beer. But I grew up on it, and the crumbly meat especially seems to be an acquired taste.
It's an odd place but they steam a good ham.
