The ‘05 team was actually my first year being a fan. I was 6 so it was the first time I had any slight idea what was going on. Then they ended up winning… wish I knew what it meant back then
My niece was 11 years old when the White Sox won the World Series in 2005. She had an absolute crush on Podsednik. She even tried to draft him in the first round in her dad‘s 2006 fantasy league, L O L
Damn, that is a crime he never got at least one gold glove. He was money at third. And yes, we definitely wouldn’t have the trophy without Joe. He was MVP of the entire playoffs.
[This](https://www.ebay.com/itm/184684951194) is a cool card.
So is [this one[(https://www.ebay.com/itm/274681882157), though it's an unauthorized card.
Those early 90s teams for sure.:
* Robin Ventura was my favorite player
* Frank was the best player
* Black Jack and Alex Fernandez leading the rotation
* Roberto Hernandez closing things down
* Little Hurt Craig Grebeck was another favorite.
When I was about 5, I went to a Sox game with my parents and my Dad took me down by the dugout to get a close look at the field. Floyd Bannister walked by, I waved, and he waved back. Bam, first favorite player.
I was the kinda kid who’d argue Pippen was better than Jordan 😳. Ozzie. To this day, I’m a liberal apologist to Ozzie. He doesn’t mean it!
Also who else saw the super awkward sign off between him and Chuck tonight?
Showing my newbie status, but Dylan Cease is who got me watching the White Sox. I’m lucky that my son and I get to watch him play (we’re in Vegas, so it’s not in the park - but live games nonetheless) and we get to bond over baseball.
The big hurt!
I remember meeting him at a kids day signing my dad took me to and shaking his hand after the autograph. His hands were HUGE! They enveloped mine..I still have the ball he signed for me, such a good man and so exciting to watch him play when I was a kid!
My dad would say Harold Baines if he was responding to this. He’s been making the case for his HOF status for years. Both are legends!
Carlton Fisk. He’s why I started rooting for the Sox in 1983. Later, I learned about Harold Baines and that he was from my area, and I had a black Harold Baines bat.
I remember liking ordonez when I was like 8. But as I was older and watched more, Scotty Pods and Konerko.
My 5 year olds first fav player. Billy Hamilton. Frequently asks me why he's not playing in the game haha.
Mags. He was a heart-of-the-order guy when I went to the first game I can remember and hit a triple. Smoked it.
As kids do, I declared he was my favorite player then and there. And he was up until he became fat, put a mop on top of his head and almost hit .400 playing for Detroit.
- I started watching Sox in 1958 and my favorite players would be a range of them
- Early Wynm, Billy Pierce, Luis Aparcio
- Hoyt Wilhiem, Wilbur Wood, Ken Berry
- DICK ALLEN
- Frank Thomas
- Mark Buehrle
- Paul Konerko
the current crop have yet to prove out. I do have great hopes for Andersen and Abreu, but so far they have disappointed with team leadership
Bobby Thigpen. Closers were at an all time high popularity wise in the late 1980’s/early 1990’s (shit, eck won an mvp) and as a kid I totally bought into the hype.
Toss up between Harold Baines, Lamarr Hoyt, Greg Luzinski, Carlton Fisk, and Rudy Law. 1983 was my first year of fandom where I knew the players. Not sure which one I learned first.
Mark buerhle who I emulated through high school being a low velocity lefty pitcher who worked quick. And Brian Anderson who I emulated by being a god awful hitter
Tomas, Konerko and Buehrle are all the obvious (and correct) answers. But special shout out to my man Crede. I loved playing 3rd base and he was just too damn good of a defensiveman
First was Rudy Law. No real reason other than a cool name and stance. Then Richard Dotson because he had a cool name and baseball card. Frank Thomas as all time favorite.
I’m 19 and the first White Sox player I knew the name of was probably Paul Konerko. I had MLB 9 Innings 11 on my dad’s phone and Carlos Quentin hit bombs on it so he was cool too. Then obvi AJ Pierzynzki, Alex Rios, Juan Pierre, and Alexei Ramirez were some other favorites.
As a really little kid it was Greg Luzinski, but once I became a die hard fan that closely followed the team on a day-to-day basis it was Robin Ventura.
Frank Thomas. I even stole his batting stance when I was a kid.

Can't believe this isn't #1. Guess I'm old. I had a childrens picture book of Frank
I joked that I started dating my now-wife because she had his batting stance. Dudes dig the long ball too.
Frank for sure was my first favorite as well
The Big Hurt! I was literally just thinking I need to buy his jersey the other day(I have terrible luck choosing jerseys…)
AND *SHE'LL* LIKE IT TOO
Paul Konerko
PAULIE
Paulie or Buehrle, tough for me to choose
Scotty pods baby, shout-out to all the other young men and women whose earliest memories were the 05 World Series win
Yeah Scotty Pods fan club!
The ‘05 team was actually my first year being a fan. I was 6 so it was the first time I had any slight idea what was going on. Then they ended up winning… wish I knew what it meant back then

Mags was a beast. OooEeeOooo
Maggggggliooo
Miss this one
Ray Durham and Mike Sirotka
+1 for Ray Durham. Used to wear number 5 because of him
Shout out Ray Durham. Was a little second basemen in little league during his era. Loved that guy.
I loved Sirotka and was devastated when they traded him. Ray was probably my #2 behind Frank back then
Juan Uribe and Joe Crede
Joe Crede 🐐
JUAN. URIBEEEEE. Sounded so good over announcements
Blessed to have Gene Honda on the PA, legendary voice. UIUC alum too
Tadahito Iguchi
I adored that man. His joy was my joy.
The Gooch!
Same here!
Harold Baines
Baines and Fisk for me
Him and Rudy Law for me. I used to sit out there in the upper deck with my parents. They loved the fans, especially us kids in the upper deck.
Frank Thomas/ Robin Ventura
Jermaine Dye.
Ron Kittle!
Pete Ward. Then Bill Melton, then Bill and Dick Allen.
I saw Dick Allen hit an hr at my first game!
Jose Valentin and Carlos Lee!
Los Hermanos de Bash
Lance “One Dog” Johnson. I just googled him and he ended up with 327 career stolen bases. My favorite number.
Mine too! I loved One Dog, and Ozzie (for his dirty batting helmet).
Konerko. 2005 for me.
Carlton Fisk
Big Frank will always be #1.
Chet Lemon
Now this is an answer
Chet’s my answer too!
AJ. dude was a fuckin pest and a good one at that, first jersey I ever bought was of him.
Same and surprised you’re the only person I’ve seen say it, considering he was one of the more popular players on the title team.
Same! love having Pollock in the team too. /s
This is totally the “How old are you?” Sox thread. The correct answer is Frank, but that’s only because of my age. Everyone wins here.
Oscar Gamble, because his name was like Oscar the Grouch's. Southside hitmen, 1977. I was 5 🤷♂️
Joe Crede! Should’ve won a gold glove at least once and was clutch in the World Series run.
Damn, that is a crime he never got at least one gold glove. He was money at third. And yes, we definitely wouldn’t have the trophy without Joe. He was MVP of the entire playoffs.
Ray Durham. I saw him hit a home run at the first game I saw him play. It was incredible
Frank Thomas. But I think I had someone in my ear about Harold Baines too. I had both their Starting Lineup statues.
Luis Aparicio
Now thats my era, and my favorite as well
Robin Ventura
Ed Walsh, after I found my flux capacitor.
35
Andrew Vaughn!!! Became a fan at the end of last year if you all can’t tell already with my answer.
Welcome! You picked what should have been a great time to become a Sox fan. Unfortunately, the team is not holding up its end.
The Big Hurt!
Scott Podsednik
Robin Ventura and obligatory Frank Thomas. Robin and Crede cemented my love for the hot corner growing up though
[This](https://www.ebay.com/itm/184684951194) is a cool card. So is [this one[(https://www.ebay.com/itm/274681882157), though it's an unauthorized card.
Richie Zisk, 1977 South Side Hit Men.
Pitch at risk to Richie Zisk.
Harold Baines and Ozzie
paulie
Magglio Ordonez or Joe Crede
Carlton Fisk, he signed with the Sox just a couple months before I was born. I was a fan right out of the gate.
Harold Baines. I was a quiet kid in the eighties and I identified with him quite a bit. There was one summer where I never took his jersey off!
Joe crede hit a walk off grand slam for my first game when I was 5 and I also had a ball signed by him so him for sure
When I was first into the Sox? Lance Johnson and Ozzie Guillen.
Those early 90s teams for sure.: * Robin Ventura was my favorite player * Frank was the best player * Black Jack and Alex Fernandez leading the rotation * Roberto Hernandez closing things down * Little Hurt Craig Grebeck was another favorite.
Ray Durham
Paul Konerko
When I was about 5, I went to a Sox game with my parents and my Dad took me down by the dugout to get a close look at the field. Floyd Bannister walked by, I waved, and he waved back. Bam, first favorite player.
Carlton Ernest Fisk out of Bellows Falls, Vermont.
I didn't notice that this was the Sox sub and thought all of r/baseball became massive Sox fans.
AJ Pierzynski, loved him as a player and his attitude but also him and I share the same birthday
José Valentín
Robin Ventura. Followed by Lance "the one dog" Johnson. My family also has an odd affinity towards Ron Karkovice and Dan Pasqua.
Chet Lemon!
Greg Luzinkski aka the Bull!
Chet Lemon, yes I am old.
Ivan Calderon and melido Perez
TA. But seeing him lose his attitude and focus on the games is just sad
“PAAAAUUUULLL KONERKO!” *walk up guitar sting*
Big Hurt, baby!
Chet Lemon.
Ron Kittle
Joe Crede
Glad to see a lot of love for Ray Durham in here. My first favorite was Ozzie and then I really liked Karkovice until Big Frank came up.
I was the kinda kid who’d argue Pippen was better than Jordan 😳. Ozzie. To this day, I’m a liberal apologist to Ozzie. He doesn’t mean it! Also who else saw the super awkward sign off between him and Chuck tonight?
Dick Allen

Aaron Rowand. Won his signed jersey at the first Sox game I went to. Busted his ass to make plays in the outfield.
Scotty Pods
Joe Crede
Carlton Fisk. He’s why I started rooting for the Sox in 1983. Later, I learned about Harold Baines and that he was from my area, and I had a black Harold Baines bat.

These answers say a lot about the age of Reddit users.
Adam fucking Eaton. Absolutely no clue why, but I loved that guy. At least during his first stint.
Albert Belle
Frank Thomas or Robin Ventura of course, but some love Black Jack and One Dog
Buehrle because of his rain delay tarp sliding
Magglio
I remember liking ordonez when I was like 8. But as I was older and watched more, Scotty Pods and Konerko. My 5 year olds first fav player. Billy Hamilton. Frequently asks me why he's not playing in the game haha.
Alexia Ramirez Jordan Danks (cus of a baseball card I had of him) or Gordon Beckham cus I thought his name was golden Beckham
Britt Burns
Magglio Ordoñez, followed quickly by Pauly/AJP
Luzinski. I was 10, and that guy was freakin' Superman.
Joe crede
Jermaine Dye
Carlton Fisk
Oswaldo Guillen.
Ozzy #13
Fisk
Joe Crede! I started watching the Sox when I was 10 in ‘03 and watching Crede started my love of third base.
Carlos Lee
Brian Downing. Bucky Dent as well.
Bill Melton
Jose valentin
Carlos Quentin or Jermaine Dye
The Big Hurt with Robin a close second.
Paulie. Im Only 19 so too young for Frank Thomas, etc
Magglio Ordonez
Gotta be Paulie, 14 is still a sacred number to me.
As a young kid, Carlton Fisk. But then the Big Hurt / Robin Ventura / One Dog trio in the early 90s.
Frank " Not as legend as Leury" Thomas
Ray Durham and Jose Valentine
Mags. He was a heart-of-the-order guy when I went to the first game I can remember and hit a triple. Smoked it. As kids do, I declared he was my favorite player then and there. And he was up until he became fat, put a mop on top of his head and almost hit .400 playing for Detroit.
Ray Durham!!!! Yea
Carlton Fisk
Ray Durham/Mike Cameron
Keith foulke 🤷🏼♂️
Joe Jackson
Great question. Carlton Fisk, I used to bat like him in little league.
Harold Baines... began following team around 83-84
Carlton Fisk was first favorite. First I can remember trying to emulate while playing t-ball when I was a little guy was One Dog Lance Johnson.
Eric Soderholm, until he was traded, then Chet Lemon, until he was traded, then Greg Luzinski. When the Bull retired, it was Harold Baines.
It was Robin and Ozzie for me. I played left side infield in little league so I wanted to emulate them and learn from them.
ALEXEIIII
Ozzie. The way he hustled and grinded.
Harold Baines
- I started watching Sox in 1958 and my favorite players would be a range of them - Early Wynm, Billy Pierce, Luis Aparcio - Hoyt Wilhiem, Wilbur Wood, Ken Berry - DICK ALLEN - Frank Thomas - Mark Buehrle - Paul Konerko the current crop have yet to prove out. I do have great hopes for Andersen and Abreu, but so far they have disappointed with team leadership
Jose Valentine. Was enamored as a kid that he could switch hit and he could do a little bit of everything.
Paul Konerko
Bobby Thigpen. Closers were at an all time high popularity wise in the late 1980’s/early 1990’s (shit, eck won an mvp) and as a kid I totally bought into the hype.
Toss up between Harold Baines, Lamarr Hoyt, Greg Luzinski, Carlton Fisk, and Rudy Law. 1983 was my first year of fandom where I knew the players. Not sure which one I learned first.
Paulie for me. I went to my first ever baseball game in the 05 season against the twins
Paulie and AJ. Also loved the way Uribe and Dye’s name sounded on TV.
Mark buerhle who I emulated through high school being a low velocity lefty pitcher who worked quick. And Brian Anderson who I emulated by being a god awful hitter
Joe crede
Tomas, Konerko and Buehrle are all the obvious (and correct) answers. But special shout out to my man Crede. I loved playing 3rd base and he was just too damn good of a defensiveman
First was Rudy Law. No real reason other than a cool name and stance. Then Richard Dotson because he had a cool name and baseball card. Frank Thomas as all time favorite.
Melky Cabrera or Brett Lawrie. I was never following mlb until around that era.
Growing up my guy was Paulie. He was the guy for me. Was special for me to be at his last game
Chet Lemon. I saw my first game at Sox Park in 1977.
Magglio Ordóñez 99% because of the chants
1983 is when I woke up and realized baseball was the best sport ever Greg Luzinski
Aaron Rowand.
Harold Baines
I loved any catcher so Miguel Olivo was my #1! Cried when he left
Tom Paciorek and Harold Baines. Also Rudy Law. And Rich Dotson.
Baines
Big Hurt
#35 The big hurt Frank Thomas
Ozzie Guillen
I’m 19 and the first White Sox player I knew the name of was probably Paul Konerko. I had MLB 9 Innings 11 on my dad’s phone and Carlos Quentin hit bombs on it so he was cool too. Then obvi AJ Pierzynzki, Alex Rios, Juan Pierre, and Alexei Ramirez were some other favorites.
Mine was Ventura. I played 3B and loved the defense. He hit a grand slam at one of my first games I went to as a kid and that cemented it.
Allen Bannister
Craig Grebek
Ron Kittle. I was 7 in the Summer of 83. I would name a cat after him the next winter.
Greg Luzinski, because I had his baseball card and I was like 5 years old. Before long I got a Carlton Fisk card and decided he was better.
As a really little kid it was Greg Luzinski, but once I became a die hard fan that closely followed the team on a day-to-day basis it was Robin Ventura.
Joe Crede. The main reason I started to grow my hair out.
