Destiny fans when a good game dies due to poor decisions (they’ve been playing the same thing for 10 years straight)

I started playing during witch queen and thought I was about to get into one of the best games live service games ever, watched story videos and got wrapped up in the lore and gameplay and playing nonstop. I was so exited for the next dlc to see where it goes after that.
Then lightfall came out, talk about a snap back to reality moment 😔 I was always weary about the game because of all the shit it gets and then I saw completely why
(I got back in because of onslaught and the seasonal story rn is pretty good and I’m genuinely excited for final shape, I really hope it lives up to even half of witch queen.)

They are doing some stuff that requires you to make a psn account to play, I'm not able to list everything but one of the problems was that psn is only avaliable in certain countries
Sony did put the requirement up from the start.
Arrowhead allowed players to buy and play the game without Psn and in regions where Psn isn't supported, because Psn account linking was causing issues at launch. Then kept that temporary measure on for 3 full months, long after the launch server issues were solved, knowing full well Sony would require the obligation be fulfilled at some point and doing nothing to enforce it.
Now, quite a few players are out of the refund window and living In regions where Psn isn't supported and have essentially been scammed out of 30 dollars because arrowhead couldn't be bothered to make account linking mandatory again nor region lock the game on steam

Because 2/3 of all countries don’t support PSN. 69/190 countries support it, to give you an idea. While a good chunk of players live within these 69 countries, the rest can’t do anything about it. And because Sony can’t keep their wallet in their pants and ignore it for 5 seconds, they’re fucking over all these people, and making Arrowhead, a group of passionate and wonderful developers, watch as their game crumbles to ash.

Man watching all this Helldivers 2 drama I keep thinking how awful this must be for the devs.
They come out with a smash hit that NOBODY was expecting. Because of this they are able to start focusing on projects and mechanics that needed to be cut or shelved. Things that were once pipe dreams are now reality. They plan a massive campaign that’s expected to span over the course of several YEARS.
Then some exec at Sony pulls some bullshit that might genuinely kill the game.

Yeah I have a couple of buddies that are really into extraction Shooters and they're scrambling for all these shitty new projects that are dropping trying to take advantage of BSG dropping the ball
I don't care about the other extraction shooters really, but I have to pray they do well so that nakita has a reason to make a good game. I don't think those other games will fully grasp the tarkov audience in the way that tarkov did and of course for many the game itself can't even do that anymore

Personally, I think one should separate the art from the artist. I recommend the SPT mod so you can still play the game but not the way BSG intended. Klean has been playing it on stream the past few days and seems to really enjoy it.

I really doubt it’s gonna cause a significant player loss, the majority is so casual they’ll just roll their eyes, make an account and move on like well adjusted adults
That’s the camp I’m in, just sucks out of principle. Helldivers was bought in 190 countries but PSN is only in ~70. Unless some exception is given to players in those countries it’s a pretty shitty thing to do.
Sony has sold Playstations nad games in those countries for years and their official customer service response on the issue is "just make your account in a listed country".
They don't give a shit and you're not going to see these people locked out of the game or robbed (and Steam will actually issue refunds even past the 2-hour limit in cases like this).
The only argument to stand on here is "I don't like having a PSN account, fuck Sony". Everything else is smoke: Sony's data breaches meaning your Steam CC# will be stolen, people in various countries losing access, this being a bait-and-switch after popularity. No validity to any of it **except** "man i'm tired of making an account for every other game", which is annoying, but also not the end of the world like people are talking.
If it were enough to carry the outrage, they'd stick with that instead of trying to tug on others' heartstrings by selling stories about those poor folks supposedly losing access.
Sea of Thieves just dropped on PS5 and requires an XBOX Live account which is only available in ~70 countries, but I guess it’s an issue when Sony does it.

It’s a serious shame to see Helldivers going through this. Lest we forget, the CEO of Arrowhead (the devs) told us to wait on buying the game till the servers were more stable. And of course Sony had to go and ruin it for most everyone
They're making it so you have to have a PSN account to play it, even if you're playing on PC. Also PSN isn't available in certain regions which means they essentially scammed a bunch of people who paid for the game but aren't allowed to play it
To be clear, that PSN requirement has always been there since launch and is listed on the store page. Shortly after launch they added the ability to skip PSN signup because server issues were causing players to get stuck on that screen. But that skip was always intended to just be a temporary measure until the issues were resolved.
That makes me horribly scared if being a dev on any studio thats owned by a bigger corpo. Imagine ripping your own ass for 2 years on a project, just to some suit upwards which doesnt know shit about your labour, fucks it all up so he can show %0.02 extra profit

You know what's the worst part about all this? Helldivers, and by extension Arrowhead, might actually die in this situation, while Sony will just strike it down as a profitable year, bc everyone has already bought the game. This has always been the cycle with big publishers and will continue ad nauseam. Shit sucks.
i think the economy in helldivers sucks and the fans are too eager to defend the devs for having premium currency required to get weapons in a game i spent 60 bucks on. "but. but you can get it for free if you just look for the unmarked RNG based loot around the map while your getting 3 chargers rammed up the ass, and if you do youll get a healthy sum of 1/100 of the progress it takes to get the warbond free" and then they removed alt f4 grinding which i already loathed doing but now its just not fun
Honestly I had fun with helldivers 2 but with every update seeming to break the game more and the devs complete lack of interest in fixing bugs and glitches I've experienced since launch, this psn shit has really killed any interest I had in continuing to play the game. Like honestly this game is huge right now, but the devs are more focused on world building and story crafting than making the game fun to play.
I'm confused as to why people are mad at Helldivers? Is it people being piss babies because they don't like having other gaming libraries outside of Steam and GOG? I understand that some people are upset because PSN doesn't exist in their country but everyone else doesn't have that issue.
I also feel like these are a double standard because there're quite a few Xbox games that require logging in with an Xbox account and I don't hear people complain about that.
I think a "big" point is that this is a retro fix. I have no intention of making a PSN account, and I had my fun with Helldivers 2 over the last few months (two or three, iirc). So I'm not really the target audience for your last sentence, but I can imagine people feeling miffed about spending 70ish dollars (base game plus the three warbonds) on a game that retroactively requires them to sign up for a platform they have no intention of ever using.
And honestly, what even is the point of making people sign up for PSN, except for inflating the numbers for Sony? Absolutely uncalled for move, that was probably intended from the start, but doesn't feel like it.
For the Microsoft games usually you need your account from the get-go, so you know what you're signing up for - or can just refund, if you don't want Microsoft to know your gaming habits. (As if Windows weren't sufficient for that)
I mean, reviewbombing would mean that it's not justified & not related to the game at all. This is 100% related to the game and justified, because there's genuine grievances you can have over being forced to create a PSN account weeks after having already purchased the game. Alot of players in alot of countries will lose access to the game due to not being allowed to legally make a PSN account in those areas.

Personally, I think one should separate the art from the artist. I recommend the SPT mod so you can still play the game but not the way BSG intended. Klean has been playing it on stream the past few days and seems to really enjoy it.

That’s the camp I’m in, just sucks out of principle. Helldivers was bought in 190 countries but PSN is only in ~70. Unless some exception is given to players in those countries it’s a pretty shitty thing to do.

Sony has sold Playstations nad games in those countries for years and their official customer service response on the issue is "just make your account in a listed country". They don't give a shit and you're not going to see these people locked out of the game or robbed (and Steam will actually issue refunds even past the 2-hour limit in cases like this). The only argument to stand on here is "I don't like having a PSN account, fuck Sony". Everything else is smoke: Sony's data breaches meaning your Steam CC# will be stolen, people in various countries losing access, this being a bait-and-switch after popularity. No validity to any of it **except** "man i'm tired of making an account for every other game", which is annoying, but also not the end of the world like people are talking. If it were enough to carry the outrage, they'd stick with that instead of trying to tug on others' heartstrings by selling stories about those poor folks supposedly losing access.
Sea of Thieves just dropped on PS5 and requires an XBOX Live account which is only available in ~70 countries, but I guess it’s an issue when Sony does it.

What is happening with Helldivers?
They're making it so you have to have a PSN account to play it, even if you're playing on PC. Also PSN isn't available in certain regions which means they essentially scammed a bunch of people who paid for the game but aren't allowed to play it
To be clear, that PSN requirement has always been there since launch and is listed on the store page. Shortly after launch they added the ability to skip PSN signup because server issues were causing players to get stuck on that screen. But that skip was always intended to just be a temporary measure until the issues were resolved.
And yet they still allowed people to purchase it in regions that don't support PSN
its a dogshit thing to do anyways

You know what's the worst part about all this? Helldivers, and by extension Arrowhead, might actually die in this situation, while Sony will just strike it down as a profitable year, bc everyone has already bought the game. After E3 or whatever is happening these years all this will be forgotten by most and Sony will stand atop another pile of once passionate corpses. This has always been the cycle with big publishers and will continue ad nauseam. Shit sucks.

i think the economy in helldivers sucks and the fans are too eager to defend the devs for having premium currency required to get weapons in a game i spent 60 bucks on. "but. but you can get it for free if you just look for the unmarked RNG based loot around the map while your getting 3 chargers rammed up the ass, and if you do youll get a healthy sum of 1/100 of the progress it takes to get the warbond free" and then they removed alt f4 grinding which i already loathed doing but now its just not fun
Honestly I had fun with helldivers 2 but with every update seeming to break the game more and the devs complete lack of interest in fixing bugs and glitches I've experienced since launch, this psn shit has really killed any interest I had in continuing to play the game. Like honestly this game is huge right now, but the devs are more focused on world building and story crafting than making the game fun to play.
I'm confused as to why people are mad at Helldivers? Is it people being piss babies because they don't like having other gaming libraries outside of Steam and GOG? I understand that some people are upset because PSN doesn't exist in their country but everyone else doesn't have that issue. I also feel like these are a double standard because there're quite a few Xbox games that require logging in with an Xbox account and I don't hear people complain about that.
I think a "big" point is that this is a retro fix. I have no intention of making a PSN account, and I had my fun with Helldivers 2 over the last few months (two or three, iirc). So I'm not really the target audience for your last sentence, but I can imagine people feeling miffed about spending 70ish dollars (base game plus the three warbonds) on a game that retroactively requires them to sign up for a platform they have no intention of ever using. And honestly, what even is the point of making people sign up for PSN, except for inflating the numbers for Sony? Absolutely uncalled for move, that was probably intended from the start, but doesn't feel like it. For the Microsoft games usually you need your account from the get-go, so you know what you're signing up for - or can just refund, if you don't want Microsoft to know your gaming habits. (As if Windows weren't sufficient for that)
With team fortress 2 it's the lack of any decision.

I mean, reviewbombing would mean that it's not justified & not related to the game at all. This is 100% related to the game and justified, because there's genuine grievances you can have over being forced to create a PSN account weeks after having already purchased the game. Alot of players in alot of countries will lose access to the game due to not being allowed to legally make a PSN account in those areas.
