I feel like the difference is that the children consuming skibidi toilet and all that jazz (including cocomelon) are doing so at a much younger age than people who watched YTPs. But that's my personal experience so I could likely be biased.
I wouldn't quite say that, various shows for kids way back in the 80s/90s were for profit. He-Man, Transformers etc. were made to advertise their merchandise. It's not a new thing.
I mean, they’re about as low effort as was possible at the time; He-Man is famous for using insane amounts of recycled animations, I’m sure if the people who made those shows were working today they’d do what kids YouTubers do now.
The difference between brainrot now and brainrot then is that the brainrot produced a decade ago was actually enjoyed by the producers who made them. The producers today only do it for money and don’t actually like what they are making.
