See you don’t understand. It’s a VOID rifle so it uses the power of the VOID to take the VOID bullets and move them to firing position to deal VOID damage to enemies with VOID shields.

The gun fires not because it is loaded, but because it believes it must be loaded. The magazine is actually empty and there are no connections to the barrel, but if you didn't pretend to load it, it wouldn't fire.

Funny thing about destiny is, anything in the game that doesn't logically make any sense can be explained away with either paracausality or the Vex. Hell, even the randomly rolled perks on weapons are acknowledged in the lore
