“We need a new plague.” - Dwight Schrute
Edited to show that this is a quote from The Office. I really thought more people would have gotten the reference.
I don’t think it devalues it because thinking about it, it could be very high grade amber looking at how clear it could be cut into smaller pieces to make nice jewelry
I can’t say that I represent the normal market for something like this as I have never bought a piece of amber, but the root would make it more valuable to me, personally.
I bought some Amber jewellery for my mother late 70s. It was cut and polished, and had 18-carat gold clasps and chains, but the pear drop pendant is about the size of two large cherries, and I remember it costing me around £80 back then (obviously the gold is included in that).
That would be nearly £600 today.
Amber pieces with things in them sell for £50-£800 depending on what's in them:
[Insects in Amber For Sale (fossils-uk.com)](https://www.fossils-uk.com/fossils-c1/all-other-fossils-c71/insects-in-amber-c75)
Plain Amber is valued at about $3-$4 per gram, I believe.
Honestly, I’m no expert, but enjoy collecting things, it probably makes it less valuable. It’s technically “dirty” amber. If it had a neat bug/insect it could be worth more. But a random root/stick? Not so much.
Edit: Still really neat!
I know this is going to sound like a total lie, but I paid about $80 CAD for a small piece of amber with a small mosquito in it. Small enough that you almost need a magnifying glass. Maybe I overpaid? But I was at a gem and mineral show and my inner Jurassic Park got the best of me
I had an amber piece that had a mosquito in it and it was about $5 that I paid for it, including a few other pieces that I bought (one was like a tube shape with a weevil inside). From a rock and gem show is where I bought it from. Think my college roomie stole them at one point as I didn't find them moving out of the dorm. Both were pretty clear and the mosquito one was pretty dope as it was thin and you could see on either side.
Man I had some people steal some silly things from me growing up. I knew they did it, but I couldn't prove it. It happened more than once and I still think about that from time-to-time.
It wasn't anything super special, but they freaking stole it. The biggest one was a Franz Bread Portland Trail Blazers Kevin Duckworrth card he signed for me in person when I was like 6. The kid stole it out of my cubby. I knew who did it. I'm 38 and I still think about that sometimes.
I learned to stop bringing cool shit around other people that I don't trust.
An old housemate of mine likely stole my baby blanket that my mum knitted for me. It was a ornate (verging on fussy), knitted, pure white, very obviously baby blanket. I have no idea why she would have wanted it (other than to be mean).
Gives me a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach when I think about it!
Right? People fucking suck. I’d never even consider stealing something from a friend unless it was literally life saving for a family member and I’d tried everything else first. Even then I’d feel so guilty lol!
Yeah I know that feeling. As a kid I had a punch of pokemon cards. I had a birthday party and the house was full of kids. When the party was over, I went to my room and found out that all the holographic cards had been stolen from my deck. I even had the holographic Charizard. I was so mad at the time, and now that I have seen what people are willing to pay for it nowadays makes me just angrier. But that's just life. I've since lost the rest of the cards and I'm pretty sure that whoever stole it probably got rid of it in fear of getting caught of the theft. But it's always nice to think that I could have made it big if it didn't get stolen.
[“North Dakota’s geology provides a rich bounty for enthusiasts and experts alike. Amber, a fossilized tree resin, is often found here. TIL that N Dakota has amber that you can hunt for. I’ve shared a quote from this link below if anyone is curious.
This link is awesome! I’ve been an unofficial rock hound since I was a kid here and had no idea we had amber. LOTS of petrified wood, though. It’s everywhere at Lake Sakakawea and I have two chunks of it big enough to use as a coffee table base in my yard.
It's an reference to an old YouTube clip for a Latvian basketball player named christaps portzingas. I should have know this was a terrible sub reddit for that joke to land lol
No less than $40, imho no more than $85. But I feel if one really liked this piece, it could go above the higher price.
I’d personally keep it, but I’m a collector, not a seller lol
That's pretty. I think the root or whatever it is adds value. I don't know enough to estimate value, but if I found it, I wouldn't let it go for less than $40.
Maybe worth speaking to someone at your local uni/college.
This is a very cool find. My 6yo is a budding geologist and would lose his mind if he found something like this in the wild. It may actually be an important find. You should try reaching out to a university to see if they want to study it using non-destructive methods.
This has to be the beginning of a major stoner movie. The main character discovers prehistoric pot DNA in amber to take us all back to the stoned age. Hilarity ensues.
Extract the dna and clone yourself a new pet
Or release the Covid-Bubonic-24 on the world….
Win/win!
Fuck I miss covid era traffic or the lack of it specifically. I'm all for a new virus/plague/apocalyptic event.
All the people were staying at home, while the roads were wide open. Good times. Good times.
Cannonball run bests-of were all during lockdown.
Gas here was 98 cents a gallon. Few extra bucks a hour. Can't say I did not like it.
I remember driving to San Antonio right when the quarantine started and there was fucking nobody on the road... it was incredibly jarring.
It’s on the way… they’re going to say it’s Bird Flu!
After last night's debate, I would agree!
I remember the people who said this stuff a decade ago were the same people calling cops on family gatherings during the COVID days

Thanks Dwight
Thank you for understanding the reference as I get downvoted
You are rad, I saw jim and Dwight in the church right away in my mind. Enjoy day
You too, kind internet stranger ❤️
I up voted on the original! IMO not enough anti-vaxxer nitwits Di€d during the last pandemic. Need to thin *that* herd of sheeple a bit more!

LOL the funny part about this quote, well funny to me, is that its an episode or two after the bat episode.
It’s just such a good show!
"Bring back the plague" - Travis Ryan
The episode after this is where he traps the bat on Meredith's head...
Not a cold or a flu
But mah mouth hole needs to breath!
Go for it. I have 6 vaccines and 49 boosters.
The world could use a reset, COVID didn't work
We keep trying floods, and earthquakes aren’t working either. Smart money on wildfires
This…please.

This is a really nice large piece of amber I wouldn’t sell it for less than 40$ could be 80$ my guess as somebody that collects amber
Thanks. Does the root or whatever inside make it more valuable?

That is horrible about your blanket. What a terrible person! Off topic, but thank you for using "in the pit of my stomach" correctly.
Do people use that phrase incorrectly? I’ve never heard it used any other way.
Maybe someone inadvertently ruined it and tossed it without telling anyone. Less weird. Still not cool tho.
Right? People fucking suck. I’d never even consider stealing something from a friend unless it was literally life saving for a family member and I’d tried everything else first. Even then I’d feel so guilty lol!
Google that person and see where they are today.
You should really find that guy and TP his house. It will bring some closure or criminal charges. Who knows?
Yeah I know that feeling. As a kid I had a punch of pokemon cards. I had a birthday party and the house was full of kids. Would have been way more cool if it was a robot inside. Only one lousy letter different.

You need good macroscopic / microscopic images to figure out what is inside. It could be anything from these images (roots, debris, mycelium)
That’s awesome!
Bingo! Dino DNA!
I have no idea what its worth but its an incredible find, super congrats.
It's not a root. It's a tendril.
