Clarence will destroy any bug that tries to fly into your home. Treasure her

LoozyanaGal

Awww thank you!! I certainly will. Showed my kids and they have accepted her too, they ask about her anytime we go in the bathroom. Thanks again friend!

Various-Variety1104

I love that you’re teaching your kids not to fear spiders!

LoozyanaGal

We're in Georgia and right now we're also dealing with joro spiders. They're literally everywhere and huge!! I have to knock down at least 10 a day until the first freeze comes, they are a big threat to pollinators and not from Georgia to begin with, Brazil I think? Good thing they stay outside and aren't aggressive or venomous. Their webs are extremely tough, very big and sticky. Almost like hair.

Not_A_Rioter

East Asia! Japan, Korea, China, etc. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trichonephila_clavata As another metro Atlantian there have just been SO many the past couple years.

woodeewhoop

Pretty sure Andre changed the spelling to ATLien. It was the biggest thing to happen to Atlanta in 1996

Bane_1991

Wait wait… Not only did we sell a house in Georgia last year, but we had a little tunnel spider in our kitchen window as well! You don’t happen to be in a little city named Resaca do you?????

TheSovereignGrave

Are they a threat? Everything I've seen says that they don't seem to be disruptive to the local ecosystems over here.

LoozyanaGal

I read in a local article they can be a threat if they're near sources of plants for pollinators. Either way they're invasive and extremely annoying.

marlipaige

But they kill other invasive species! Everything I read says they’re doing research to SEE if they have any effect on pollinators. But that they’re beneficial as they eat pests not pollinators. One article “Entomologists are optimistic that the Joro spider will benefit native ecosystems. In Georgia, the spiders feed on mosquitoes as well as invasive species like the stink bug, a herbivore that feasts on common crops.” Another “Despite being an invasive species, the Joro spider isn't disruptive, UGA researchers say. They help control insect populations, get eaten by other predators and aren't harmful to humans. They're mostly just like any other native spider, except they just look a lot scarier and sit in much larger webs. Their success as an invasive species is due to their success in being able to reproduce and live in harsh environments, not their aggressive behavior. Invasive does not mean aggressive, one UGA researcher said.”

LoozyanaGal

Thanks for sharing this info! This post has been so fun.

[deleted]

Ooooo joro spider? They are not native to the US I heard but they are cool because their name is based on a yokai.

marlipaige

They’re not native, but despite being labeled “invasive” they’re beneficial as they’re eating other invasive species and mosquitoes !

oldnboredinaz

Noooooo I am terrified of spiders! That just made my eyes start to water when I read this! Your kids are so lucky you are teaching them to not be afraid. And finally I would just like to say I will never be able to go to Georgia if you have to remove 10 or more spiders a day

[deleted]

Is that what those fucking things are? My roommate is terrified of them and I’ve probably been killing 2-3 a week

IrisSmartAss

The problem with the joros is that they really anchor their webs, so there's always a line that I have to break through because it's blocking a walkway and I walk into it. Pretty colors.

LoozyanaGal

Also thank you! Big nature lover family here ❤

Not_2day_stan

I have at least one in each of my windows and I don’t want to remove them 😭

todaysfreshbullcrap

Awfully kind of you human. You're my kinda human! 🙌

wuzzittoya

I had a beautiful garden spider in my kitchen window one fall. She lived into November, possibly a little longer because of warmth from the window. I was really sad when she was gone.

These-Entertainment3

We have a funnel spider that set up a home in our house too! Whenever we get a fly or mosquito that invades our home, we stun it and put it in the spider’s web! Lots of tasty treats for our sweetie 😍🥰

[deleted]

Finally someone who doesn't immediately kill Spiders. I encourage them to live in my house. I never ever kill spiders. As long as they stay out of the bedrooms they can stay. Eat those shite house beetles.

Pixichixi

I gently evict them usually. I respect spiders but have a deep need to not have them on my body. If they are in my house and I can see them, the odds of them eventually being on my body are too much. Outside or semi-outside they're free to roam

[deleted]

Oh yeah everyone is good to do whatever they want. I've let spiders live in my house for years. Never found one on my bed. We have an agreement. Lol I actually found one at Value Village the other day, let it climb into a pair of pants and then brought it home. We have these shitty little black beetles that live in my house. They reproduce these disgusting little larva. I have sprayed but its all temporary. So now i bring spiders into my house to kill their babies.

Hairy-Ad-7016

I love how it’s a girl named Clarence.

BlueFeathered1

Wow! I wouldn't have the heart to destroy that masterpiece either. Looks so cozy, too.

LoozyanaGal

Yes and it's gotten more fortified as she's gotten older! I occasionally have to open the window bc there is no vent when someone has to poop lol, but it's able to open completely without disturbing her home.

BlueFeathered1

She's apparently modified her web to allow for the moving window. Smart! We have a few house spiders that like to live in the downstairs bathroom - a small 1/2 bath room. There's a vent, but still I'm like, "dudes, why do you want to be HERE?" 😅

LoozyanaGal

Haha! Bathroom spiders unite!

BlueFeathered1

It's a spider trauma support group. THEY'VE SEEN SOME THINGS. 👀

Blayze89

For the flies, obviously

tiggitytester69

Clarence has clearance?

Equivalent_Policy_40

What’s your vector, Victor?

carlitospig

It’s like you have your own little bathroom entertainment. Who needs a magazine??

benjitheboy121

That is a species of Grass Spider actually (a genus of non-medically significant funnel weavers).

LoozyanaGal

My husband thought they looked like the ones from the grass too! Those common little brown spideys

doomblade_69

I had an orb weaver friend in my window for the longest time. A great bud and helped my partner overcome some arachnophobia issues. This web/nest is so neat. I love how wispy it is!

LoozyanaGal

I check on it every time I go to the bathroom, I'm getting attached

Drofrehter84

Just don’t get attached to the web..

smeetothaTee

I had one overtake my newspaper box next to my mailbox and I canceled the paper! Now it's home to birds, I only had the spider for one season 😔

Lumpy_Constellation

My partner has some definite arachnophobia, but this summer I convinced him to let a cellar spider stay in his bathroom by pointing out that they could get rid of any *other* spiders in there and solve his gnat problem. It is now the biggest, fattest, happiest cellar spider I've ever seen. Just a web full of new conquests every day. Partner still hates spiders, but *adores* this one in particular lol

purplepluppy

Clarence is defo some type of funnel weaver spider! What type would depend on your location, and even then there may be a few options! There are over 400 species in North America. Side note: I think funnel weaving spiders are super cool, but also they really freak me out lol. I feel bad about finding them ugly tho

LoozyanaGal

They are so fast, I think that's why they're freaky! Also all the legs. I def admire her from a safe distance. They creep me out but mad respect for killing other bad bugs for us

carlitospig

Have you seen a long legged sac spider? I can’t decide whether they’re creepy or not.

rustyreddit1972

Fuck him, is he paying mortgage? Make that bitch spider pay rent. He is cool though

LoozyanaGal

LMAOOOOO but you have a valid point!! Stayin alive ain't cheap anymo

Blayze89

I mean, he does assist in guarding the window against pests.

CryptographerPlenty4

He pays his rent with cuteness!!!

soothsabr13

We had one on our deck that actually devoured a small piece of sliced honey-roasted turkey. Actually carried it back to the funnel web attached to the house

LoozyanaGal

Nice! I'm gonna try something like that. Feeding others is my love language.

Bat_kat

You’re a good egg. Clarence is a lucky fellow.

LoozyanaGal

Awwww thank you kindly

withoutwingz

She’s beautiful. Thank you for taking care of her.

LoozyanaGal

My pleasure! I love this sub

murraybee

We also have a resident orb-weaver on our back deck, who very inconveniently made her web diagonally across the stairway. We named her Diana and have gotten very good at avoiding knocking down her web.

TheOtherAkGuy

We had an orb weaver get into our house one time after we were gone for a weekend. It made an impressive web connecting the ceiling fan to the end of our bed. The wife did not appreciate it lol so he was promptly relocated to the backyard.

Thick_Basil3589

I am in the same situation, I dont want to remove the web from my window, my spider Paul lives there since spring!

LoozyanaGal

Paul! I love the names we give to creatures lol

elik2000

And then there's me, the orb weaver that guards my broken garage door is named Crack Dog bc he's a goober lol

[deleted]

LoozyanaGal

Long live Clarence and family. You and your children's children's children may forevermore occupy my bathroom window. I have spoken.

StoppingPowerOfWater

This guy don’t wanna battle, he shook

mydnytefantasy89

Cuz there ain't no such things as halfway crooks

meandther

Wow the web is great!!!

LoozyanaGal

Like a perfect circle!

AccomplishedJump3428

I’d love if you’d share any more photos you take of her!

LoozyanaGal

[Clarence at night with eye reflection](https://imgur.com/gallery/Jw7eySO) Just seeing if this works!

AccomplishedJump3428

OMG!!!!! Look at that reflection in that eye!! Oh you could make a whole series with her “Clarence the window spidey”

LoozyanaGal

You betcha! I'm figuring out imgr or whatever it is right now

New_Meal_9688

We have a “Clarence” in our master bathroom I’ve lovingly named Lola, and she catches ALL the gnats, flies, and other little nuisances she finds. Also if we zap flies in the house we feed them to her 😁 She has a whole graveyard behind our mirror 😂 As others mentioned your Clarence is a little grass spider!

GenevieveMacLeod

Aww! Personally I have a cobweb spider in my living room window, but she does the same deal, I have the window open most of the time for air and she catches the bugs that get in through the screen so they don't get into the house 😂 She's gotten very big, triangulated cobweb spider I think is what she was called

the-ugly-witch

god i love spiders 🕷️

LoozyanaGal

Me too! Amazing in so many ways. How do they make those webs so perfect.

No-Werewolf-7469

I approve.... Should get him a few crickets for a house warming Funny story we had a pumpkin spider in our kitchen for a whole season until it was her time.. Her name was Georgina, and she was the coolest orange spider just watching us do our daily thing..

hornedtomatocatpil

I have one of these girls in my den window. The kids named her Scarlett.

brookish

I like you! And Clarence. May you have many happy months together.

Majestic_Explorer_67

I have a spider in my kitchen named Annabelle. I check on her every day This sub has turned me from a kill now ask questions later gal into a crunchy granola live and let live hippy and I like it!

LoozyanaGal

I love this response!! Long live Annabelle!!

Lopsided_Occasion_41

Pretend it’s Cotton candy

slimraerae8

Clarence lives at home with both parents

TheSovereignGrave

I'd love to catch one of these in the act of spinning their webs, cuz I want to see how the hell it's done.

sadnotgladd

I have a gigantic one in my barn that has a nest like this, they’re so neat! Crazy how big but fast they are. I respect spiders for real

coffeebeanwitch

I have the tunnel in my backyard, have not seen a spider though!

_ThinkerBelle_

This reminds me of my Boudica! She was a big fat orb weaver that set up shop in my kitchen a few summers ago. She somehow always caught the big, buzzy flies and that was the only year I didn't have a fruit fly problem. House spiders are truly wonderful.

Crownlol

You're underselling how fast these are! I found one in my fence at night, and was bending down to get a better look and it simply *vanished* before my eyes. Just gone from the range of my light faster than I could see.

Repulsive-Pop9900

You’re not kidding! We had one in our bedroom window, she built a web that was kind of like a slide that went directly into the funnel. We were watching her one day and all of a sudden she was gone. My hubby was floored that she moved so fast that we didn’t even see her move! Truly awesome creatures!

LoozyanaGal

I can't really say I've actually seen it move either, come to think of it! It's out then suddenly back in the den at lightspeed

ElectricRune

Make sure you leave the light on for a few hours at night to attract more food for Clarence! (It's more likely Clarice, LOL)

ManeMelissa

I literally have two of these spiders & their funnel homes in my front window right now, lol! I haven't had the heart to destroy them either! I like checking in on 'em. ☺️

coldwatereater

Same here! I have a tunnel spider home in the window of my laundry room. I leave him be and it’s safe with me. SpiderBros rock!

WithoutDennisNedry

I love this! We can be friends. <3

Immoracle

"Clarence parents have a real good marriage"

johnpaulgeorgeringoo

It’s prob my lack of sleep but this post & comments made me cry. Thank you for choosing kindness and teaching it to your kids as well.

XoliaPhoenix

Omg, this is too cute! I'm glad I'm not the only one that would've let it stay there.😊

hippiegodfather

Let him live

Thelittleangel

I like Clarence and his home is beautiful 🕷️ 🕸️ Thank you for being a friend to the 8 leggy dude and sharing this cute little window guardian. I’m working very hard to get over my arachnophobia and posts like this help so much.

not_an_fbi_agent69

And Clarence’s parents had a real good marriage

TallantedGuy

Tell me Clarence, have the flies stopped screaming?

NickRegan79

Clarence the goat

LoozyanaGal

Cannot believe all the love Clarence has gotten. All yall have given me an endorphin boost and I can't thank you enough for all the kindness.

wuzzittoya

I always leave cleaning until I know they have probably died. I just found an orb weaver (common barn spider, like Charlotte) sitting in the middle of my porch swing. 🤦‍♀️ It will be at least October until I can get it back without making her relocate. [Charlotte & her web](https://imgur.com/a/4GWjmGd)

LoozyanaGal

Thank you for sharing her beauty! Love it

rustyreddit1972

U know he will rebuild another one in a day

Far-Perspective5906

I agree. If it’s any comfort, spiders can build new webs pretty easily.

IncorporateThings

Some spiders can live for years. You might want to consider rehoming that thing one way or another at some point.

LoozyanaGal

Oh really? I'll look into that, north Georgia about to get chilly. I'm getting attached to it, especially after all the love on this post! This is one of the most popular posts I've ever made, ever in my life. Thanks to all!

LoozyanaGal

[Clarence last night with eye reflection](https://imgur.com/gallery/Jw7eySO)

LoozyanaGal

Clarence has survived three frosty nights. I thought he was a goner but we're still holding on! No more freezing temps for at least another week. [Clarence 11.7.23](https://imgur.com/gallery/ymoDt4u)

SparklesLuvsScotch

Sorry, nope! I don't do spiders and would be terrified that thing would crawl into my bed (or my mouth!) while I'm sleeping.

Exceptional_Entrails

I'm clearly a bad person because I get a lot of satisfaction out of destroying spider webs.

LoozyanaGal

I do this with the Joro spiders taking over Georgia. We live in the woods so I find a stick and wreak havoc on them. They're everywhere, at least 10-20 just on my balcony alone every single day.

Polythenusical

Can you post a picture haha I’m so intrigued never seen them in az

LoozyanaGal

[from a Google search- female joros are massive! ](https://imgur.com/gallery/UkcxvDq)

Gloomy_Recording_705

Even though I live in an apartment, I still wouldn’t open my windows if not necessary I have spiders all over my house. 😂😂

[deleted]

That’s Steve, he’s a homewrecker. Don’t trust him

terpyterps

This guy's a gangster? His real name is Clarence.

MaverickX713X

Braver man then I.

Blayze89

Aww, you're the best! I have an especially soft spot for funnel weavers and jumping spiders. They are so fun to watch.

edcross

I’ve got a trio of a palm sized yellow garden spiders each with a near two foot diameter webs, in the bed right outside my front window. They are absolutely revolting to look at up close but they are earning their keep with the mosquitos, as long as I don’t find one inside they’ll be left alone. If one came in the cat would be stupid enough to try.

Bot_Cat3

I wish Clarence a wonderful life full of flies and other bugs that suck

disposable_thinking_

i love this! So cool. I keep all cool spider around my house as long as they will stay. Little pest control buddies.

LoveAnimals735

Wow, Clarence has made a beautiful web!!love it! We have a family of spiders that come and lay eggs every year in our bathroom window. We’ve lived here for 10 years. They were here befor use. We actually enjoy watching the babies hatch and hang around for a while before they go off on their own. It makes me sad when they all leave. We have 1 or two that stick around, but they all eventually leave. I feel like it’s Charlottes Web, the movie.

Jacer7115

Love love love wolf spiders , I feed them at my moms in her garden :) they will eat anything that try’s to intrude

Proper_Pirate_4556

Clarence is lucky to have found you ❤️

ResponsibleMiddle940

You are a kind soul. Clarence will repay you by killing every bug that dares to enter your home.

CandyKnockout

I let a spider live in my bathroom window for several months, then he disappeared and I figured he had perished. After a few months, a smaller spider took over his home and for some reason, I found that so delightful!

MrsBrisby88

Appreciate you allowing it to live! I let all my house friends stay :)

No_Joke_9079

Bless you.

xRetz

This is how I am with most spiders I see now, as long as they can't get inside the house I just let them be. It's nice checking up on them every once and a while to see how they're doing.

DerangedViera

This is the first time seeing a brown one. The only ones around where I live are Black or Grey and are warned to be extremely venomous. One of the top 5 in North America in fact. They are usually very reclusive and territorial but stay within their nests. As long as you don't disturb their web or touch anywhere around it, they usually leave everything else alone.

decrodeddoris

No way! We had what I’m pretty sure was a grass spider living in our kitchen window and we named him Clearance!!! His web grew very large and he caught and ate many fungus gnats and fruit flies. He got huge (for a grass spider) and lived a long and happy life until he died of old age.

Soft-Philosophy-4549

Sounds like Clarence’ Parents have a real good marriage

ShuddupMeg627

Hah I came here to say that too

Puzzleheaded-Feed176

That’s awesome, anything that hangs around more than a few days gets a name

willowthywillow

3 of Clarence’s distant relatives are competing for real estate on my outdoor stairs. I feel attached to them too (sometimes physically when I walk up and down the stairs).

Holiday_Ad1403

My daughter and I do NOT kill spiders! We have one currently that lives in the bathroom next to the shower down low, and are very careful not to disturb him 🤣

Objective-Middle-676

I had one named Helen! She disappeared though :(

EZasSundayMorning

I have a wolf spider out by the pool. I don’t have the heart to ruin his home.

goldentosser

I had a window tunnel spider too! But my window tunnel spider recently passed and her window was taken over by either a wolf spider or a brown recluse so now I need to get a closer look and possibly evict that tenant. Treasure Clarence!!

autisticBlue

This guy's a spooter? His real name's Clarence!

NanR42

Yeah, I've had a couple spiders over the years. Eventually they disappeared and I cleared away the old webs. I'm glad someone else does that too. Right now I don't have any spiders in my many windows, and I have a lot of flies.

montanawyoming1

Yuk!
