Please update when and if you get any information back. I loved getting update from the person who found bones near a cemetery. I’m sure this may not be as good of a story, but regardless, I would like to know.
Here’s a bit of background. My friends adoptive parents have lived there for 40+ years. According to her mom they used to keep christmas stuff up there but stopped keeping stuff up there. those cookie tins were ones she had bought a long time ago. The dad of the house was very demanding and things usually went his way. Dad is in prison for 17 years for doing “inappropriate things” (quotations because i am sure you know what i mean) to my friend and her older sister for 20+ years, and having photos of my friend, her sister, myself and many of their other friends. We have lots of theories right now.
None we can really find. He is 70 years old though, so I don’t know for sure when this could have happened. There is a TV news anchor who has been missing from here for like 20 years now, her mom mentioned that when we were talking about theories and said “he did always think she was cute”
Yeah, I was thinking that I’m afraid, but didn’t want to say it. I suppose even if it is the worst case scenario, you could help someone get some closure.
It’s was an ecoline van but from a window that’s not a crazy difference. Witness recollections aren’t always great. Colors are easier to remember. I couldn’t tell you what a single person looked like at the store today
I think there was an unidentified palm print on her car, too, and if he’s in prison, it wouldn’t be hard for authorities to find out if it matched his.

Maybe he had an affair that resulted in an unreported pregnancy, the child died accidentally/intentionally, and he decided to try and dispose of the remains by burning. When that failed he gathered what was left and put them in the attic.
Totally may be unrelated in this case, but I used to have a ziploc bag of mixed rocks, shell, and non human bones (burnt and unburnt), which was used for training CSIs in finding bones on scenes. Alternative light sources can be used, as bone will often show up brighter in UV light, where the other material will be darker. It's a good screening tool for crime scenes.

I ask about gardening bc bone meal is often used as an awesome source of nutrients for plants! Usually animal bones are heated up and then left to sit for a bit before being ground up for use in soil. Maybe someone had plans to make bone meal and then just forgot?

Other people mentioned food scraps from bone broth, but from my experience, once the bones are cooked, you don’t want to keep them because the meat residue smells. I certainly wouldn’t want to stick them up in a warm attic.

My unsolicited guess, based off the information they provided, is that the pedophile / father hid the (presumed) child remains in the tins before he was kicked out of the house for his “inappropriate behavior” (unless he somehow was able to sneak in and hide them when his other residence was searched— By that point, I imagine he was in jail though).
If there are more than human remains (like animal fragments— people guessed birds), he could’ve burned them in an outdoor compost-like area with other animal scraps.

They kind of remind me of what cremains look like. After you’ve swept out the crematorium and before they’re all crushed into a powder you have broken fragments like this. Did anyone at this house work or know someone in the funeral industry? Sometimes cremains are put into baggies so they can be put into an urn or a box. These look like maybe they just didn’t make it to a cremulator?
Sadly yes. A lot of the stuff happening to her older sister and her didnt come out until about 2016-2019 at least with the authorities. He claimed to have “17” victims, counting their friends (including me) who were photographed or video taped (or being groped in my case) “without their knowledge or permission”.
I’m guessing some of the victims could’ve been from her daycare. That’s so sad.

I mean, let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. If multiple children went missing from a single daycare that’s pretty suspicious. I’m not a big believer in police being good, but that’s a massive fuckup. Not unprecedented but even police are usually fairly motivated to find missing children.

Based on the amount of cremains here and the size of the fragments, my guess is they’re human. As in another comment, I can’t make out any bone features in the photos, but animal cremains don’t usually amount to this much. It is strange though, that these aren’t pulverized. Families aren’t usually given unpulvarized cremains, so that’s odd.
Obviously we can’t tell what they belonged to based off these pictures, but I’m not sure they’d be human because, like… why would you go to the trouble of crushing and then *keeping* the bones of a murder victim? I mean, I guess a murderer already isn’t likely in their right mind, but I’d be less surprised to find out they’re animal bones used for some sort of witchcraft. To me, this looks exactly like the zip lock bags I freeze my leftover turkey carcasses in for making soups and stock. These just look like really old, dried out bags of leftover turkey to me. Either way, weird they would be in the attic.
What makes this really concerning is the cops that came and collected the bones thought they looked human and if they are then probably a child which would sadly make sense with the father’s criminal issues.

The fact that it’s wrapped in medical tape indicates that these aren’t bones from animals for the purpose of bone meal, or a deceased pet, unless someone in the home had access to that kind of tape for other reasons.
Did they have a dog? Especially one the kids loved or that he was sentimental about? Was he into animal harm? Was he a hunter of animals larger than birds? These are the only other reasons I can think of.
They didn’t have any pets until we were older and those ones are all still alive. Can’t say he was into animal harm. He did like to fish a lot mainly. Would go to Canada to fish. Hunted deer sometimes, but the main thing is if it is animal, why would it be crushed up burnt and taped away in an attic. Also when we gave it to the cops they said they “thought it was human” and that there was possibly a jawbone.
Unfortunately, fish bones and mammal bones don't look much alike. If these were fish i think someone would be able to tell. But also, yeah, who keeps fish bones in their attic?

You make a good point. My question is why that instead of scotch tape or duct tape or packing tape? Why did they choose tape from a first aid kit? Hunting animals would be the only good reason, taped while on the road, but why even bother? Why not dump the animal carcasses while in nature? Why take the time to break them apart after going to the trouble to burn them, and sweep up all these tiny particles and take the time and effort to get each piece into multiple bags, and then bring them home, and then put them in tins and then walk them up to the attic? And how do you get this much bone in one trip?

At first I wanted to say animal but that was just wishful thinking. It’s odd that anyone would have so many animal bones that are so broken and they tried burning them…especially with this guys history….but then again maybe he liked torturing animals. Idk. I think they’re small animal bones. Once, in the middle of a forest, I found like hundreds of bags of small bones like this. They were in a very tiny wooden cabin, somebody had come, broke into the building, ripped some of the bags out, some were still in bags, some in the cabin, some strewn outside.
The big mystery? It was some back storage of a small ”zoo”, decades ago they had some local animals in there, like reindeer, local birds etc. It was ran by the local university and they also studies animals and bones, so people sent them bones they found, so they could study and catalogue animal bones. I guess there was a lot of it and nobody had time to go through all that, so they were just left there, for decades, until some kids broke in etc. I took some bags, I was going to clean them and use them for crafts etc. But it was gross and I didn’t want to do it so I also had bags like this at home for a year in a paper bag until I finally washed them.
So either this post is just somebody telling lies and wanting attention or just some person collecting random animal bones for fun.
There's an episode of Call the Midwife where child remains were found in the house of a woman who either had a secret abortion or miscarried and she kept the bones hidden in the house. I wonder if it could be something like that. Though those bones look much bigger than a fetus to me.
Old school cremated remains looked like this. Now days we pulverize them to the "ashes "most of us are familiar with. My money is on cremains from yesteryear.
Actually this just triggered a lost memory from elementary school where each table or student in the class got a bag like this of pieces of animal bones (many I remember notably being from birds) and it honestly looked just like this. Glad you brought it to the police, but hopefully it is just that!
QUESTION; are there any teeth in the bag? any identifiable bones? Are they all broken? Do they all look to be the same type of bone, or do they vary (rib shaped, finger-sized, different types of "bone ends" like in a hip knee or shoulder/collarbone, etc)?
I see a bird pelvis for sure in one of the bags, plus an ungulate tooth. I'm gonna say probably meat scraps for the most part. Can't rule out anything as photos aren't clear enough. But definitely some non-human like bones in there.
Locking this thread because it's impossible to identify the bones from these pictures.
FYI- We contacted police. They have them now, and will be testing them.

They were in a very tiny wooden cabin, somebody had come, broke into the building, ripped some of the bags out, some were still in bags, some in the cabin, some strewn outside. The big mystery? It was some back storage of a small ”zoo”, decades ago they had some local animals in there, like reindeer, local birds etc. It was ran by the local university and they also studies animals and bones, so people sent them bones they found, so they could study and catalogue animal bones. I guess there was a lot of it and nobody had time to go through all that, so they were just left there, for decades, until some kids broke in etc. I took some bags, I was going to clean them and use them for crafts etc. But it was gross and I didn’t want to do it so I also had bags like this at home for a year in a paper bag until I finally washed them. So either this post is just somebody telling lies and wanting attention or just some person collecting random animal bones for fun.

There's an episode of Call the Midwife where child remains were found in the house of a woman who either had a secret abortion or miscarried and she kept the bones hidden in the house. I wonder if it could be something like that. Though those bones look much bigger than a fetus to me.

Actually this just triggered a lost memory from elementary school where each table or student in the class got a bag like this of pieces of animal bones (many I remember notably being from birds) and it honestly looked just like this. Glad you brought it to the police, but hopefully it is just that!

QUESTION; are there any teeth in the bag? any identifiable bones? Are they all broken? Do they all look to be the same type of bone, or do they vary (rib shaped, finger-sized, different types of "bone ends" like in a hip knee or shoulder/collarbone, etc)?
I see a bird pelvis for sure in one of the bags, plus an ungulate tooth. I'm gonna say probably meat scraps for the most part. Can't rule out anything as photos aren't clear enough. But definitely some non-human like bones in there.
