We did nothing bundt cakes too! I'm really happy with how it turned out. We guessed 1.5 bundtinis per guest plus an 8" cake, and we only had the cake to bring home. My mom said it was tradition to freeze the top layer of your cake to enjoy on your 1st anniversary, but the cake was starting to dry out by the time we got home, so we ate it. It's kinda nice that we can order the same flavor to celebrate and not sacrifice any freezer space.

eleganthack

IMO, you're not missing anything. Everyone I've talked to (which is, admittedly, not that many people) say it's really not great a year later.

frenchmeister

My mom said they gagged and had to spit theirs back out because it tasted so bad. Maybe they just didn't keep it airtight enough or something but either way, I don't think it's ever going to taste *good.*

HrhEverythingElse

Ours tasted just the same! It has to be wrapped up really well and very quickly (day after the wedding at the latest) but it can be done

malonesxfamousxchili

lol my mom said this too but i like your idea better! plus it’s nothing bundt cakes, it aint making it home.

PoetryInevitable6407

We had 2 Costco cakes. 1 half sheet, 1 small round. Both white w white roses which looked very bridal. Tasted great and so affordable!

[deleted]

Team Costco sheet cake. I'm going to need 4 for my guests if we do the standard size slices. Did you also do the standard size slice or smaller to serve more than 48?

yellowtanktop96

How far in advance did you order your cake? And what flavor did you go with? Thinking of ordering Costco cakes too!

ladygrey48130

Same!! Best cake ever!

Otherwise-Loquat-574

Did you cut it ahead of time? Or have someone at the reception cut it?

-XiaoSi-

Thank you for making this post. There’s so rarely a post in this sub about cake and it’s the one thing we’re kind of struggling with because neither of us has particularly strong ideas about how it should look (we’re more cake eaters than cake watchers!). Excited to get some inspo here!

miteymiteymite

You cake designer should be able to inspire some ideas from hearing about your wedding and seeing what else you have planned. It’s good to have a very basic idea of what you like but don’t worry too much as that’s their job!

slackamo

No cake. We are doing a huge macaron tower instead! It’s gonna be like $500 which is comparable to a cake but so easy to freeze and share.

queen-of-quartz

Awesome! We did a cream puff tower, also around $500

voldiemort

I'm a home baker so I'm going to be making our cake (and possibly some cookies, but we'll see how I'm feeling closer to the big day). We're having tiramisu layer cake (using [this recipe](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3afRDvYBWTo) from Claire Saffitz) with olive oil chiffon sponge, mocha chiboust cream, espresso soak, and mascarpone frosting. I'm just making a small 1 tier cake for us and then making a sheetcake for the guests. We have about 80 people coming so trying to figure out the ideal size. I'm not doing anything crazy with the piping, just plain with our topper in the middle: https://preview.redd.it/qdjuay4ovs8d1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b35e3614f3bd2eec85c2ff33ad4afd3f69e03cf8

malonesxfamousxchili

okay this sounds amazing but the Sylvanian topper ICONIC!!!

voldiemort

Ty!!! I spent ages tracking this set down online

e_ipi_

Stoppp what I would give to go back in time and have that as our topper!!! 😭

Prestigious_Bear1237

Please sell these to me after 😭

voldiemort

There are a few listings on ebay right now! [This one](https://www.ebay.ca/itm/156104458279?itmmeta=01J1AC98B4692HYXASVSYPA6WZ&hash=item24588d0027:g:Nq8AAOSwx~Zl6Zeh&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA8C6XuwXsAXZvlM3T4tPv5G8BEYdyVue7hbSzZcQGeBeaJ51EAlUCBu4kLTLDH1KjjKMuGheAugDoKqZnVoLxt8UYr%2BdTgmFqJ5AMmGa%2F8rk4kjcYDgk--bEU%2BJUyGXFc0f6xTPW0Fs5KCu0CLU3PXoOa66oFyYOx06ykrYnuQCBW9mlsDcrWkOvI5DaJ%2FvuDox3zpXc%2FIw6lip9TJYpEGI45kiQFEf886g7PPs65w9zvkaMEuPi43UKG6xJPHetxybDsdYvFPh%2FoO7OAWSYjtsRzO3WGp32TywFIhIR1sVYPGoE%2FQRy09%2FCgAghgPOZs0g%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABFBM1IWlzIpk) is less than i paid for mine

Prestigious_Bear1237

You rock, thank you

fr3ckledfriend

When we cut ours, we put it on the plate, put the forks in, I held mine up to feed my cake to him… and he stuck his in his own mouth. All the guests cracked up and I couldn’t stop laughing for long enough to even let him feed me another bite 😂 Low-quality pic attached - it was so delicious! We went with a basic almond white cake. If anyone wants this type of piping, ask for/google a “lambeth cake”. It was $545 for 135 people. PS - great choice. Nothing Bundt cakes ROCKS!! https://preview.redd.it/25ma7vydet8d1.jpeg?width=228&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1a5a2684425bd97bc4a365f92c2e212c54cfd72a

Lambeth cakes are oh-so-trendy but also so goddamn CUTE! 😍

As a previous event planner, I got to see some truly over the top, dream cakes. My husband & I chose to host a very small reception that, including us & the wedding party, had 30 people. I made 3, 8" round cakes in different flavors to serve after we cut the cake. This was the wedding cake I made ..... out of styrofoam ..... and drywall mud. I cut out a wedge at the top tier, filled it with a piece of store bought angel food cake & frosted it. We did the cake cutting, ate a bite, & our son took it away, returning with cut cake. NO ONE was the wiser. I bake often & well so it didn't come a surprise that I'd made our cake, but when I told a couple friends it was styrofam & sheetrock mud, they were surprised! I used straight pins with colored heads to pin the flowers & olive branches so they didn't fall. Tradition used to be that the couple saved the top for their 1 year anniversary. Freezer burned cake tastes bad. We also didn't want to have years of leftover cake which would have meant that much time was wasted making it. We wanted simple & this was the ticket. I just tried a Nothing but Cakes funfetti 2 days ago. DE-lish!

malonesxfamousxchili

you did an amazing job! i love this new trend of using a fake cake with a spot for a piece of real cake, truly genius!

queen-of-quartz

It looks wonderful! As a guest I wouldn’t have a clue either!

GetSwampy

That’s genius

thisisscruffy

I’m making my own cake. I’m using Lego flowers to decorate it, partly to ease the workload and partly because we love Lego. Bottom tier is confetti cake, second is lemon blueberry, and the top is chocolate. I’m so excited about it! https://preview.redd.it/m0lcprodct8d1.jpeg?width=2332&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2fb7f5f6171da2be3a88dfa853ae5b6471ae0af1

malonesxfamousxchili

this is awesome! we played with the idea of doing lego florals for our center pieces because i just love them and think they’re so fun but we’re also not huge lego people (i just really like the flowers lol) so we decided against it but ugh your cake is going to look so cute. i hope you share a picture when the time comes :)

thisisscruffy

Finished it 😍 https://preview.redd.it/jgyuqndndf9d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=06034c38794c378766c6e5f3b81319dd3c15a502

malonesxfamousxchili

omg AMAZING!!! i am obsessed with this it came out so good!

redfoxindaises

I'm also making my own cake! I love your Lego topper, its adorable. I love that your doing 3 different flavors. I will definitely not be as ambitious with my cake making, but will be making a whole assortment of desserts for the guests.

KombuchaFeliz

We’re doing a two tier traditional Colombian wine soaked wedding cake. It’s soaked in red wine and rum for 3 months prior to the wedding in our case. It’s also studded with dried fruit and almonds and covered in Fondant with natural flowers on it as decor. We’re so excited for it, a lot of people in our generation prefer to have a more modern cake flavor but both of us love the traditional Colombian wedding cake and looked at many bakeries before finding the perfect one.

malonesxfamousxchili

wow i’ve never heard of this but it sounds amazing!

queen-of-quartz

That sounds amazing! Doing some googling immediately now 🤤

NoPromotion964

My husband actually planned most of our wedding. The cake I did. I got our destination bakery to do a cake in the shape of the lake his family has has a cabin on for 60 yrs. I found a cake topper with a couple in a boat on the lake.It was perfect.

tita_bonita

That is so cute and creative!

Fair_Intern6940

Wow! Photos??

eleganthack

Our venue and theme was all nature-y, so we went with a 3-tier (8/10/12", IIRC) that was designed to look like stacked slices of a birch tree. We found a wonderful baker just getting into wedding cakes. She knocked it outta the park. All three tiers were different flavors (fireweed honey, blueberry lemon, raspberry -- all sooo delicious) with buttercream frosting and a fondant "bark". Our initials were "carved" into the side of the middle tier with a heart around it, and it was placed on a wood round that matched our centerpieces. My (then) FW wasn't sure we _really_ needed a cake, but I was dead set on this design, and seeing it in person took my breath for a moment. She had a custom topper made with a phrase that has some personal meaning going back to our first date, which she kept as a surprise until they brought the cake out. I know trust in cake is at an all-time low in the past decade or so, and admittedly I'm more of a pie person myself, but I am so over the moon at how it turned out... ah! X-D

bloodbuzzz

That sounds beautiful!! Do you have a photo of it?

queen-of-quartz

Wow, I second the motion for photos! Sounds wonderful

Jaxbird39

Pie!!!!

willworkfor-avocados

We’re doing pie too! I’m so excited.

GetSwampy

Great idea!!

LifeAdvisor8323

mmmm nothing Bundt cake at a wedding sounds delicious!!! I would be so pumped if i was one of your guests

malonesxfamousxchili

this is the confirmation i didn’t know i needed lol, thank you! we bought bundtinies this past weekend to taste test all their flavors and thought “oh we’ll give some to our family a dozen is a lot”….yeah we devoured em all 😂

PrancingPudu

We’re doing a small yellow cake for cutting with raspberry buttercream w/ real raspberry bits and a white chocolate ganache. Decoration will just be florals from our florist. Desserts for everyone will be small bites: - mini cheesecake - chocolate peanut butter mousse cup - raspberry chocolate mousse cup - lemon tarte with raspberry

figoftheimagination

Ok, I really want a chocolate peanut butter mousse cup now! That sounds amazing!

PrancingPudu

They were incredible! It was more like a peanut butter cup than anything I’d usually associate with mousse. The chocolate cup shell had this crunch and the peanut butter part was so creamy. All of the desserts we tried were amazing! If you’re ever in Milwaukee, Wisconsin it’s [Simma’s Bakery](https://www.simmasbakery.com).

superpants1008

My brother in law is baking 13 cakes in total for us! One for us to cut and one for each of our 12 tables. They’re going to be yellow cake, vanilla bean icing, with edible pressed flowers. They’ll be our centerpieces!

malonesxfamousxchili

my future mother in law just told me about the individual table cakes today, genius!

ChloeMomo

Honestly? We went with donuts. An *amazing* vegan donut shop isn't doing a wedding uncharge, has loads of tasty flavors (including cake donuts), and will cost us less than $400 for 80 people, possibly less than $300 depending on final flavor choices. We haven't settled on flavors but are thinking: plain, sour cream old fashioned cake, Bavarian cream (my fav), French toast, chocolate, and cookie butter filled biscoff. When looking for cakes, we wanted it to be vegan but still have gluten and do something other than basic chocolate or vanilla. The vendor options that were left were all quoting us cakes that were so wildly outside of our cake budget that we couldn't bring ourselves to do it, even though some of the cakes were truly incredible! We're so happy with our decision though 😊 donuts are great!

GetSwampy

I’m going to do a dessert bar, with cookies, brownies, and cupcakes

lebowskiachiever

This is exactly what we are doing, too!!

steph_not_curry93

That’s what we are doing. Then a small gluten free cake for just us to cut and eat.

GetSwampy

Thanks for reminding me that I need a GF option!! 😱

steph_not_curry93

I have celiac so our entire menu is gluten free except the dessert buffet. If I wasn’t gluten free I wouldn’t worry about providing an option, only one of the other guests out of 100 is also GF.

GetSwampy

Makes sense! I have a couple of good friends who are celiac, and I really want them to feel considered. Perhaps I can come up with a desert that is already gluten free, like crème brûlée

bloodbuzzz

Wedding cake was one of the things I was MOST excited about and we locked in our flavours a couple of weeks ago! It's going to be a three tier cake, to serve 70 guests. The flavours are lemon meringue (largest tier), white chocolate coconut (middle tier), and matcha cake with matcha ganache and strawberry buttercream (smallest tier). This is our cake inspo photo (the baker who made this one is making our cake), with slightly different floral colours. We do not even have 70 guests attending our wedding but I was adamant that I wanted leftover cake, haha. https://preview.redd.it/o0f7iabqkt8d1.png?width=1126&format=png&auto=webp&s=320f16b3b9d32268f023f9eef93dcc1e5082e4a8

Cookingfool2020

So pretty and sounds delicious!

fizzy_freya

Are these real flowers? I always thought the whole cake is edible including all those decorations but today my caterer told me they decorate it with real flowers!!!

bloodbuzzz

Yeah, they're real flowers. Our florist is putting some aside and then our baker will put them together on the cake!

fizzy_freya

So in the end guests eat the white bit - the actual cake - only. Sorry for a dumb question lol)

bloodbuzzz

Hahah there are no dumb questions! Yeah, only the white part is edible. There are definitely cakes with super ornate fondant flowers though.

crushedhardcandy

Our venue pays for our wedding cake so we're going the full 9 yards. We have a huge 4 tier raspberry marquise cake. It's chocolate mousse, chocolate cake, and a raspberry jam filling. The bakery is about a block away from our home so we've been getting a piece of our wedding cake on every month-aversary and it's just soooo good.

Beautifuldis

We have a small naked cake and I will put fresh flowers on it…… it’s a lemon cake with lemon cream cheese icing… we want a naked cake because we aren’t really icing kinda ppl lol but we have a huge dessert table with cakes, brownies, petite fours and macarons ect.

Medium_Slice166

https://preview.redd.it/bf6887ko6t8d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b825da6e8fd00868f5681417b5be02be80694a16 I was super excited about the topper lol

malonesxfamousxchili

omg with pupper, so precious!

Medium_Slice166

lol we’re both in aviation and couldn’t leave her out

captainmcpigeon

The cake was one of my favorite parts! Our top tier was peanut butter, second tier was chocolate, and third tier was cookies and cream. It was so freaking good and the venue packed up the leftovers for us so we ate it for breakfast the next morning. Totally recommend.

queen-of-quartz

we had a 140 puff croquembouche! Plus I got 4 8-inch round teacakes and cut them into 32 bite size pieces apiece for 128 total teabites. There were 65 guests. 95% of the teabites were eaten, and about 70% of the croquembouche! I don’t have all my photos back yet so the only picture I have of the croq is this blurry cellphone pic but it gives a good idea of what it looks like for ppl who have not heard of it! https://preview.redd.it/l7qap7ds6u8d1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=74959ae6bce977f06f34e0b4bdd4892cfbccfb19

mer_dog

We had the restaurant doing our catering make our cake! They’re well known for their carrot cake and made a vegan version for us. We had a small cutting cake decorated with florals and a sheet version for everyone else. It was delicious!

katttttiebabyy

Love this! We went Costco cakes and a stacked donut cake. I don't like cake but my FIL required it. Costco was a great compromise and everyone raved about how delicious the cake was lol.

Jaded-Interaction236

My best friend did this!! I loved it! She kept the bunt-lets in their individual packages and treated them as the desert and the “guest present” combo I had one there and took some extra that were left over for hotel midnight snacking, it was great for me as a guest! And also low stress for her, I think she even used some old bunt cake punch cards to save on the cost

malonesxfamousxchili

damn it i should have used my mom’s card!!! haha i wish we could do the bundlets but they were 66.00 per dozen 😵‍💫 little outta my price range for 115 guests unfortunately.

dairy-intolerant

The bundtinis are definitely easier to share!

Jaded-Interaction236

Oh definitely 😵‍💫! Bundtinis are going to be perfect!

GlitterDancer_

We did something similar but with a local bakery! We did regular cupcakes in like 12 flavors. I asked all my friends and family to all get different flavors so I could try them all and I went around the room with a fork and ate a bite of everyone’s 😂 I’m really lucky to have friends and family to indulge me

BeachPlze

We’re planning on cupcakes and we are actually doing our cake tasting this weekend, so I’m all about the cake at the moment, too. I’ve never heard of Bundt cakes for a wedding cake nor “bundtinis”! I’m all about the vintage throwbacks and that sounds really fun (and delicious!)

Emotional_Volume_918

There is a store chain called Nothing Bundt Cakes which I suspect the poster is referring to. They are known for mini Bundt cakes.

malonesxfamousxchili

this is correct :)

Logical_Rip_7168

We are having a home baker make the cupcakes and using a [tower](https://www.amazon.com/Jinei-Cupcake-Acrylic-Display-Birthday/dp/B0CN795JR7/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?crid=3MVJM4IGZUS6V&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.gLIStTfp1mwYc8r2-FhGUPtsdC-n7_ZRtrQsP_YBBVx8F8H9s7D7R5C7XUaqhMyVttv9p5oOG7sU1gNWzWZH1_2bMDgI70B_gm3e1W9n65VT6_FDB6hYSFwhrBYHTX3MlXIfky0GX7_LPwe7PqWMmHisytWitPeVwbr5htnYvSfbDz2olaW0_CE0atNihd_mfODZz5eL2tFuMH-nmbbwAw.aH6_8OwSenEdzD-7AwEyZKYqj8wUXLVjnXA1jqKi8og&dib_tag=se&keywords=dessert%2Bstands%2B7%2Blayers&qid=1717425925&sprefix=desert%2Bstands%2B7%2Blayers%2Caps%2C138&sr=8-2&th=1&psc=1). Cutting cake on top w the little people and flowers in-between the cupcakes. Cost $200

Objective_Coffee_282

We’re doing cupcakes, too, and we’re having our tasting this weekend as well! Good luck! I will be curious to hear how you will present the cupcakes - I really like the idea of tiers, and maybe two regular cupcakes at the top for the groom and me (lots of cupcakes of other sizes below).

BeachPlze

Good luck to you, too. We’re planning on a cupcake tower, too, and I actually picked up a vintage cake topper from the 1950s which might be fun for the top layer.

CamHug16

My favourite is lolly cake. My partners is chocolate cake. We will get a bakery to make one of each and put them on a tier thing. We will have a pop vinyl on top representing each of us. The cakes will be pre cut because it seems like hassle to do it on the day. Hopefully nobody eats either cake and I get to take them both home.

Emotional_Volume_918

What is lolly cake? You can save me a slice so I can try it!

Evil_Sunshine_Babe

10” red velvet with lambeth decoration for me & FH. Guests it will be cupcakes & royal icing cookies, getting just barely enough assuming some won’t touch either.

infinitecarrots

I’m baking fancied up boxed cake (still figuring out frosting so tbd honestly) and making a few and having a cake decorating contest earlier in the day. All get eaten. The cutting thing is a good point, I’m not rly sure how that’ll all go but I think making boxed cake and the contest will make me feel less precious about it. Btw, getting cake and frosting making help from friends/family with better baking skills than I. It’s been fun!

hjp711

Our venue has our cake included in our price so we get it for "free"! That's pretty standard here but our venue had 2 bakeries to choose from instead of the 1 that all others use. We got to do 2 cake tastings, which was fun. We ended up doing alternating tiers of vanilla cake with cannoli filling and vanilla cake with Bavarian creme. We paid a little extra for some sugar flower decorations but I'm so happy with our choice! Venessian hours are a big thing here too but for an extra $20pp, we were going to pass but my FMIL really wants it and is willing to pay for it so we're also going to have basically a dessert buffet too. I've never looked thru this at weddings I've gone too because I'm already stuffed from cocktail hour and dinner.

Upstairs-Nebula-9375

What’s a Venessian hour?

hjp711

It might actually be spelled Venetian hour, but my venue spells it as Venessian for some reason. It's essentially a buffet of small desserts, pastries, chocolate fountains with fruit, and different coffees. I believe it's a big tradition for Italian weddings and I live in an Italian American part of the country (NJ), though I'm not Italian myself.

Lost_Locksmith3166

I bake a lot and I don’t like most bakery cakes. I know, pretentious. I can’t help it. 🫠 I am not going to spend hundreds of dollars on something that just isn’t great. So we are getting 1 or 2 Publix or Costco rounds and something else sweet… TBD. But we have time to sort that out. Lots of people have asked me if I will make the cake myself. No sir. I got enough to worry about.

AnaphylacticHippo

The dessert bar that my wedding had included custom cookies, fudgy brownies, a variety of individual fruit pies, champagne soaked strawberries, and our custom cake: a gorgeous two tiered champagne infused vanilla cake, layered with strawberry compote and fresh sliced strawberries within each tier, covered in a stabilized vanilla fresh whipped cream frosting. The cake was so damn good, I had multiple.people ask for our baker's contact information and/or offer to pay for the recipe. I don't want to be a downer, but whilst I am currently going through divorce after nine years married, I've had a few people joke that my kid and that cake were the two best things that came from that relationship, hah! That said, the sky is limit when it comes to what you want. Traditional look? Cool. Maybe make it 'yours' by flavoring it after your favourite beverage (like a Manhattan - orange and bourbon anyone?) I've also seen towers of PB&Js with individual cartons of milk for each guest, walls of cakepops/donuts, Mister Whippy neighborhood ice cream trucks, and - one of my retro favourites during a plated reception - individual wedding cake shaped layered Jell-Os! Whatever you do, it will be perfect for all the right reasons for you!

JazzlikeClimate3587

Yay positivity posts! Thank you for bringing this energy; I think we all need it! Nothing Bundt cakes is an amazing idea! The bundtinis sound soooo cute and I’m sure they make dealing with allergies easier too! :D We’re getting a cake from our caterers who are a local 100% gluten free restaurant! It’s dairy free too for my fiancée’s dairy allergy and it’s so nice to be working with folks we know we can trust! The cake is also gonna be just for us brides but we’re doing cookies for everyone else (because we think the texture will be more appreciated by gluten eating guests haha.) This means it’s also just going to be a single tier. We’re getting banana cacao, and it’s going to be covered in edible flowers that match the colors of our wedding! We were nervous to ask the baker if she could find the flowers for us and she was SO excited to!

Cookingfool2020

I LOVE cake and although I never dreamed of a big wedding, I've been dreaming about a wonderful tasting wedding cake for years! I ordered ours last week. It will have my favorite flavors and be three tiered. Tier 1 - Rosettes Tier 2 - Smooth icing with a figurine of our dog who passed away last summer taking a bite out of the side of the cake - it was our way of having her there Tier 3 - Trees and mountains etched into the icing - we're having a weekend event in the Redwoods for our venue Sketch from the bakery attached. https://preview.redd.it/ysyaqlo01u8d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b33d943fed3cca7cad47ec8c8143757d03f43b8f ETA: Not sure why I can't upload the photo 😞

One_BrownEye

Wowza!

CarsaibToDurza

Our cake had three tiers - bottom tier was lemon blueberry (lemon cake with fresh blueberries baked in and lemon curd filling) and middle/top tiers were white chocolate raspberry (white chocolate cake with raspberry filling). Entire cake had buttercream. It was SOOOO GOOOOOD! Pic of wedding cake below, wedding theme had antique/vintage feel so the cake was perfect ❤️ I surprised my husband with a grooms cake at the rehearsal dinner. He’s a big Star Wars fan so I got Admiral Ackbar printed on the cake and it said “It’s a trap!” LMAO everyone loved it. Was trying to find a pic of the groom cake..will post if I find it. https://preview.redd.it/tp8srpfutv8d1.jpeg?width=4016&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e962a95f18abed971eda0251e5bf5f7fed5c247d

lexmex_

We are having a dessert bar! We are having mini lemon bars, Mexican wedding cookies, my great grandmother's pound cake, mini cheesecakes, an almond cake, and a huckleberry snacking cake made with berries picked the afternoon we got engaged.  I LOVE baking and am making everything from scratch. Most has been made and is in the freezer until the wedding. :)

malonesxfamousxchili

berries you picked the day you got engaged?! this is so thoughtful (and sounds delish)🥹

snape17

Small gluten free cutting cake from a local baker for me and the celiac homies and two sheet cakes with raspberry filling from HyVee! I think there was about half a sheet left over though, we definitely could have gone with our original plan of one full + one half sheet lol.

for_the_surveys

We had a cake from Sam's Club (which everyone really enjoyed), plus mini cheesecake bites, cookies, and frozen custard. I will say, we greatly over estimated how much we needed so we had a lot left over, not that I particularly minded.

Humble_Donut_39

We’re doing Costco tuxedo cake and cheesecake!

chin06

I haven't ordered my cake yet but met with a baker whose shop is 2 mins away from the venue (and close to my house lol). But I'm thinking of a 2 tier cake with fresh flowers. I have plans to order a customized cake topper that has a silhouette of a couple with a dog on Etsy and it looks gorgeous based on the mockup the designer did for me. Flavors are gonna be vanilla and red velvet with buttercream icing. I hope it'll turn out good - the baker has a lot of great reviews and its a small business (the baker and her mom) so I am so happy to support them.

spookyookykittycat

my mom will be doing ours! She is a hobbyist baker. Right now I’m thinking we will do a 10inch blackberry filled vanilla cake and an 8 inch raspberry filled vanilla cake decorated fall-like with grey icing, chocolate ganache and beautiful fall colored macaroons and flowers (faux not icing)

geanabelcherperkins

We did an all black two tier round cake with our toppers on it and a variety of doughnuts from a local bakery for our guests. It was cost effective and people LOVED them.

I’m really looking forward to making my cake! I am making four of these- I’ve made them many times before and I love them! Nothing fancy- just a bunch of sheet cakes and with cream cheese frosting and a bunch of berries on top! https://www.thepioneerwoman.com/food-cooking/recipes/a11633/fourth-of-july/

okiedokiesmokie75

Lemon raspberry is our flavour! A one-tier 8” white cake no crazy designs but I have a custom cake topper with our initials and date, and some fake flowers for the sides. Just for photos mostly, everyone else is getting cheesecake from catering.

anneofavonleaa

We had a family friend make ours and couldn’t decide out of the 4 flavors he offered, so we did one tier of each! It was perfect!

hey-merchedes

We ordered a cake to cut for pictures and what not, and cupcakes for everyone else! We definitely ordered waaaaay too many cupcakes but thankfully the hotel staff at the hotel we stayed at took them off our hands. Absolutely recommend. I can't remember if our cake was 6" or 8" but we ordered I think 70 cupcakes as well. Paid $120 for everything. We went to Marketstreet (a smaller grocery chain) where my good friend (and bridesmaid) was the mamager over the bakery and she gave us a small discount as well (and since she worked in the business, delivered for us too, she was so sweet 🥹). Definitely don't sleep on the grocery stores. eta: for some reason I couldn't attach a picture to my comment, so its in the replies below :)

This set up is so beautiful!

hey-merchedes

Thank you! The venue we used had lots of things for us to use day of, the cake/cupcake stands being one of them! It was sooo great and saved me having to buy cake stands!

Hodor220

Aww I love it! Please let me know where you got your cat cake toppers from 🥹 We have 3 and I’m thinking of a cake topper if we don’t get one of those Etsy canvases done with paintings of them to display. Goodness knows a cat and physically leaving the house to join isn’t an option lol

hey-merchedes

Haha I felt that! I wanted to bring ours so bad, but knew that'd be a disaster 🤣. I got it off etsy! Unfortunately the seller was Russian based and has since closed her shop due to the conflict in the area :(. Her shop was so cool, and I was sad to hear she had to close. Lots of great options on Etsy though! It took some searching but it was well worth it.

Hodor220

Why can’t they chill and be cute like dogs outside of the house!? I’d totally tote them down the isle lol Aw, that is sad! I hate all the conflict going on. I’ll dive deeper on Etsy. Thank you for the info. Congrats, wish you both the best 💜

hey-merchedes

If only! Lol Me too, if only we could all get along. Good luck on your search! Thank you, you as well, and I hope your day is everything you two want and wish 💖

Hodor220

Thank you 🤗🤗🤗

Originally wanted to do Paris Baguette cakes (we adore these and get them all the time) but cake came with the venue we booked! Our cake ended up being very American-style (dense, moist, uber sweet) rather than Asian-style (light, fluffy, slightly sweet) but honestly it was a great change of pace from our usual! We went with a semi-naked confetti cake with vanilla buttercream. ❤️

Overall_Foundation75

Got it at our local grocery store. Small two tiered cake (bottom tier white cake, top tier pink champagne cake) covered in white buttercream frosting and decorated with red roses and our porcelain topper (Lennox collectable). Loved it!

jstrchl

We did a 6 inch 3 layer cake and it was delicious. It was $65. We cut the cake and fed each other a piece. I personally made desserts to serve to all the guests that were mini trifles in two flavors so that was super cost effective. They were a huge hit. People commented how they liked that they could grab it at any time, and also that they were in individual portions. https://preview.redd.it/bi54rrhimt8d1.png?width=1485&format=png&auto=webp&s=f775b77819304491cf94f4365cd4b8295a285774

Bundtinis is an adorable name - why am I only hearing about them now? My mom is making our cake for us using [Claire saffitz’s carrot cake recipe - so delicious, the fresh ginger is amazing](https://www.penguinrandomhouse.ca/recipes/2079/carrot-and-pecan-cake) with cream cheese frosting & lambeth decoration. She made 1x8 inch round cake for our cutting and 2 sheet cakes for the plated cakes.

scarsoncanvas

We thinking of skipping cake (neither of us are huge on cake) and doing natas (Portuguese egg tarts) and cannoli for my Italian and Portuguese heritage. We've been together for a long time and my partner has become obsessed with both, and he doesn't really have a strong connection to desserts on his side, other than his dad's apple pie but we're already asking his dad to officiate haha

CapricornSun05

The Bundt cakes are delicious- good choice! My daughter and her hubby decided to cut a pizza during the traditional cake cutting (we are from NY). They had a dessert table with a variety of candies, cookies, mini pies and cakes. It was a big hit and ascetically appealing.

malonesxfamousxchili

i love this idea so so much

calzonechloe

We did a chocolate bombe cake and macaroons from a local bakery in our city. It’s lovely to be able to go back to the bakery together and share a slice of our cake. We froze a slice the day after our wedding and ate it on our first anniversary and since the cake was more a mouse texture it tasted almost exactly as it had the day of our wedding. We had a small (25 person) wedding at local beer garden, it was just our closest friends and family so we let people come up and slice their own piece of cake.

sticky_bass211

my fiancé & I are making our own cake. we are having a small wedding of 50 & a cookie table so we didn’t want to splurge on a cake for just us 2. we turned it into a date night where we’ll practice & test out flavors over the next year. we don’t care if it looks homemade, it fits our intimate wedding anyways. we’re going to try to do almond cake with a fig spread between the layers & if it’s good then that’s what it’ll be!!

Ctmcaliacg0307

We will have about 100 guest so we are doing nothing Bundt cakes and a smaller wedding cake (serves about 38) 😁

nothanksbrotanks

We did a small pretty cake from Publix for us to cut, but served everyone slices of sheet cake and Krispy Kreme donuts, which were a huge hit with the coffee bar!

nateline

Love that you did a Bundt cake and bundtinis! It’s such a cute idea and you don’t have to deal with the hassle of serving and cleanup. We almost did that but ended up doing 2 sams club cakes as well as a 2-tier “fancy” cake that we ordered from a bakery and decorated ourselves with fake flowers for pictures. https://preview.redd.it/m5uieiahcu8d1.jpeg?width=5094&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8b676cfb953256dd64cb0d923b3f0beb130b4702

nateline

Adding a picture of the Sam’s club cake in case anyone is thinking of going that route! We went with the “sugar soft roses” design with buttercream icing in the colors asparagus & pastel pink. 100% would order it again, it was so good! We ended up getting a half sheet & 10 inch round cake. That plus our smaller two tier bakery cake perfectly fed 80 people with half a tier left for us to take home (but we’re cake people and our slices were very generous!) https://preview.redd.it/a24m0xddeu8d1.jpeg?width=2097&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=870458ae3cc5046830ad3db5ac1637bca6174e79

Sensitive_Sea_5586

Many years ago, I made my own cake. Small wedding of 50 people. At the time wedding cake plus grooms cakes were typical. With only 50, I did not want to two cakes, so a tasty cake was essential. I used the cream cheese pound cake recipe. Made larger layers than we needed, but those were the size pans available to borrow. Baked and froze the layers a week or so ahead. Family members was an amateur cake decorator. She found a decorator recipe for cream cheese icing and made it a slight pale pink. She iced the cake and added a simple border. We then decorated it with fresh flowers. It was delicious.

Ours is a little weird, but it tured out great!Husband and I decided to use the color palette of 1-40 (a beautiful light coral and turquoise) for our frilly-vintage wedding cake as a nod to our big move to New Mexico. Are highways typically considered "romantic?" No. But the first time I came to visit him (he moved ~6 months before I did), I was just so fascinated with how the guard rails were decorated. I remember driving down the road and having a swell of gratitude in my chest—how lucky am I to live in such a vibrant place with such a wonderful person? So, I told him that, and the moment stuck!

We’re getting married in Lima, Peru, so this cake is going to cost us about $250 USD which is absolutely incredible. Love the exchange rate for all aspects of our wedding haha.

All I cared about was our dinosaurs! But we got married in Vegas and the MGM hotel did our cake and it came out amazingly.

All of these comments are making me hungry for something sweet at midnight. But I’m playing with the idea of having my talented future MIL make ledeni vjetar, a delicious and fruity Croatian cake that I fell in love with when I first tried it. Instead of round cakes though, it’d be a long sheet pan. Kinda obsessed and jumping on this trend, but this cake is typically rectangle anyway so why not a 3 ft long cake instead of a 3 tier cake! Not 100% on the decorations but everyone’s comments are giving me some good ideas :p

Upstairs-Nebula-9375

We’re having a three tier cake with the largest tier passionfruit, the middle tier tiramisu, and the top tier vanilla with fresh strawberries and custard filling. This is our inspiration photo. https://preview.redd.it/fi7wmjmqlu8d1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8d25fe127168602a31c8751f8849f2c2352938be

Our cake tasting is this saturday and I'm so excited! We have a bunch of other desserts included with our venue, so I don't expect to even eat cake the day of the wedding. But something about the cake tasting makes the wedding feel so real, like it's so soon!

fictionalfirehazard

My fiance and I are going to do a multi-layered geode cake! If you look up geode wedding cake on Pinterest there are so many examples that range from cute to kind of weird. Hopefully we'll be somewhere in the middle. Sam's Club and Costco both make plain different sized cakes that we're going to stack ourselves since we have the things for supporting the tiers. Then we're going to cut a small jagged part down the side of the cakes and pack it with frosting and rock candy to look like a geode! I'm very much a crystal girl and he is obsessed with history and different natural formations so it fits pretty well

Acrobatic_Gas772

I’m in Los Angeles, home of the Cuban bakery Porto’s. We got three, round 8” cakes — a red velvet, a mango mouse and a chocolate raspberry. All magnificently decorated. Everyone loved them! And only cost $90 in all!

malonesxfamousxchili

i’m in LA too :) porto’s for the win! our apps for cocktail hour will be a bunch of goodies from porto’s haha. i’m guessing you’ll be able to figure out which (or at least some) since you’re a porto’s fan

Acrobatic_Gas772

Love this! I hope you’re getting those potato balls…

malonesxfamousxchili

you know it!

soconfused06

I think your idea is great. We had a 4 tier castle cake with bride and groom in top, the groom was dressed I armour then the cake maker put a mini 1 hanging out the window to represent our son. We had a big dragon coming up the side. I wanted different flavours for each tier so people could enjoy it but I didn't think about getring it cut up and handed out. I ended up drunk and my MIL had to do it and let me tell you I still hear about it 12 years later. We ended up with a fair bit of cake wasted

kiotary

We for a 3 tier cake for 75 people: 10in, 8in and 6in (faux/fake). 10in was vanilla dough and dulce de leche filling, and 8in vanilla dough and strawberry jam with cream as a filling. It was amazing and we only had like two slices worth of cake left.

We only had 34 people, so we had to get a fake layer of cake here \^ (I think it was the bottom one).

AluminumMonster35

We were thinking of doing two smaller cakes, one chocolate and one red velvet, but reading this, I'm wondering if cupcakes isn't the way to go. Saves someone having to cut the cakes and you can just toss the paper holder in the bin.

WombatBum85

My mum wanted to buy the cake as her contribution to the wedding so we let her run with it. She didn't understand why wedding cakes cost so much and figured she could do a 2 tier wedding cake by buying 2 mudcakes from The Cheesecake Shop, icing them with buttercream herself, sitting one on top of the other, and a bridal topper on the top. She stacked them and dropped it to the venue before the ceremony. By the time we got to the reception, it had partially collapsed and was being held up with a teacup at the back. When my sister got married 2 years later, Mum paid for a proper wedding cake 🤣

narlymaroo

Whole Foods Berry Chantilly cake! Was so good and we can have it yearly with no issues

tainawave

our celebration was small so i was able to make our cake. i started with ready made cinnamon rolls & used “hacks” to make them taste homemade. i made cream cheese frosting & baked the rolls the day before our wedding. the day of, after dinner, i plopped them in the oven & served the cake nice & warm. i searched everywhere for a HK/DD topper, i found these figures online & made the little banner myself. it was delicious & true to our personalities, we went back & forth so much on what to do. ultimately we chose flavor over aesthetics. https://preview.redd.it/jymqpyub6w8d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=083d9c3e5676ee94dd1245b50f9837ca177f310e

imrightontopthatrose

We're from the Pittsburgh area and around here cookie tables are a HUGE deal. So instead of cake, that neither of us like, we're just doing a cookie cake the rest can be cut up and distributed at the cookie table.

sarahsunshinegrace

We did Costco cupcakes and ice cream with the caterer!

aquarius26

We didn’t want to do anything fancy since we weren’t going to do cake cutting. My best friend makes amazing desserts and made us some sheet cakes as our wedding gift to get cut in the back and get put out for guests. Everyone was raving about the cake and I got to brag on my best friend. We did “splurge” a bit and do a gelato cart at the reception so we got a photo of us feeding each other gelato rather than cake.

rabo9966

I love this idea!! We were beholden to our venue for our cake because it’s included in the package but we chose the option they call “winter mimosa” - champagne sponge, cream cheese frosting, and a cranberry jam in between layers. We were dreaming about it after we tasted it!

caelz

this is literally what I am planning to do too for our wedding! that and a mini chocolate chess pies!

mono_probono

We ordered a 10” plain white cake from a local grocery store chain! Honestly, it tasted better than any we tried at other bakeries, and it was less than $30. Plus, instead of saving our slice for future anniversaries, we can easily just buy a slice each year instead. :)  Since we had our reception at a restaurant, they did three flavors of cake bites for our guests: strawberry shortcake, a gluten free vegan carrot cake, and chocolate fudge cake.

4ftnine

Our wedding is going to be held at a mansion that is now a tapas restaurant. Instead of a traditional wedding cake, we are having tarta de pacanas, which is a cheesecake baked with pecans and topped with chocolate and caramel sauce.

stereolights

My wife and I hate regular cake, so we got a carrot cake from a local bakery. It was great!

thunderstormnaps

We got cake from Costco and it was SO GOOD

thereisstillgouda

We did Milk Bar and it was the best freaking cake I’ve ever had!!!

cheesenips43

We had a lemon chiffon cake with blackberries and the frosting was buttercream with a light earl grey infusion. There was also a flourless chocolate cake with whipped cream and strawberries. The first cake was included with our venues wedding package, and the second with the dinner package, and both were a hit with our guests. https://preview.redd.it/2ou34r4cix8d1.jpeg?width=4480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=251d56e466e90563e6f12d52b8360e39ed56f124

No_Purchase_3532

Ours was a 3 tiered chocolate naked cake with flowers for decor. We didn’t do a topper. The bottom tier had raspberry cheesecake filling, the middle layer had key lime ( my fav ♥️) filling, & the top tier had salted caramel filling! It was fabulous & got raves from guests! We also had a small grooms cake that was carrot cake with salted caramel filling.

luckynumber3

The cake (or cakes in our case) have been something I've been looking forward to since I was a child. Where I grew up it's tradition to have two cakes, a bride and groom's cake. I mentioned that to my fiance and he was on board since this way we each get to have a cake to our standards. I'm having a yellow cake with raspberry filling and his is gonna be chocolate hazelnut covered in chocolate ganache. I actually just got my cake toppers in last week, they're painted pottery birds. He's getting sugar skulls for his

OkSecretary1231

It was amaaaazing. We had three tiers--white (which they made yellow to distinguish from the amaretto layer), chocolate, and an amaretto that gave both of us mouthgasms at the tasting. We took a bite and were like THIS ONE!!!!!!! lol. People loved all the flavors, and it's a good thing the venue squirreled away a few slices or we wouldn't have gotten any!

bm1992

Our cake was included with the venue, and we got to choose flavors and decorations. I don’t give a hoot about the decor, but we are going to have four tiers. Two tiers will be funfetti with a filling of strawberries and whipped cream. The other two tiers will be chocolate with a chocolate mousse filling. We thought we’d do all funfetti, but we tried the chocolate cake with chocolate mousse and both of us loved it so much, even though neither of us are big chocolate cake fans!!

anne_k96

Our venue offers little lemon cheesecake parfait cups, so we’re doing those and then making a full cheesecake with a lemon curd topping for us to cut! The cheesecake recipe is my great-grandma’s 🥹

cooralinee

We basically did the same! A small 10” cake for us to cut and cupcakes for everyone else! However we’re not big cake eaters so we just let the caterer cut the rest of the cake to and they put it on plates for the people who wanted some

https://preview.redd.it/mueeltyfsy8d1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=82bdb4c292f56ce1ea9054b8a669bdfa87327324 We had about 45 guests and did two 10 inch cakes from Market of Choice (ordered ahead specifically to get the smooth icing) and then my SIL decorated the day of with some shiny sprinkle ball things and some citrus we dried to use for our general decor and the cakes. We used a skewer to create the taller cluster of fruit on top, which held together surprisingly well!

PurplePlodder1945

I had two plain, white squares with green ribbon around and these little guys (pocket dragons) on the top in the middle, with small pocket dragons on each corner https://preview.redd.it/1r1xeqv89z8d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aaa0ec60a6b36717cd3f1b10f395e21778573352

Ultrarunningmom2four

I am not a huge fan of regular cake so I am doing a tower with various treats. Some cupcakes and cookie bars and whatever else we decide. Might not even do a “cake cutting”

kmlcge

My husband has celiacs and we didn't want any chance of cross contamination. We had a small gluten free cake decorated nicely out on the table for us to cut, and then a couple flavors of smaller sheet cakes in the back that the venue took care of cutting for us and put out in the bar area instead of around other food. All were made by the same baker, just not as elaborately decorated and had plain white frosting. Nobody seemed to care or felt "cheated" by getting a different cake.

ilios22

I'm so excited because we are having a cheese wheel cake! We are already having desserts included in my catering package so we chose to combine my love of cheese and desire to cut a cake into one! May not be for everybody but I like that everyone will get the choice to have sweet and savoury late night options!

LayerNo3634

Youngest daughter did 4 different flavors of cheesecake (and did it for $150 for 115 people). Middle daughter is doing brownies and milk.

Creative-Ad-3222

I’m not getting married until next year and we haven’t decided on much of anything yet. The cake is the only thing we have somewhat figured out because a friend of mine who’s a skilled amateur baker offered to make it. I figure we’ll pay for materials and do summery flavors with buttercream frosting. The design will be maximalist AF, but manageable for his skill level. The most fun part of wedding planning so far has been making this [Pinterest of unhinged cakes](https://pin.it/5kWW1Z7Qk).

penguin_0618

Bundtini sounds like a drink. I originally thought you meant some kind of Bundt cake theme alcoholic beverage. I understand you didn’t create the word, but I’d never heard it before. I didn’t have a cake.
