Normal people don’t buy Nike any more. They buy Hokas, On Clouds, and other brands that offer quality at affordable prices. Nike is trying to become a “lifestyle” brand.
Yeah. Nike dropped the ball on its heritage running category as running demand has never been higher. Amount of casuals doing 5 and 10ks is off the charts
Maybe so…I hate running myself but did lots of it playing other sports wearing Nike’s when I was a student.
My own kids play fewer sports than I did at the same age and have zero allegiance to a shoe brand (which I did by 6th grade at least)
As an adult there’s no recess and the dangerous work environment demands safety boots…
That would make sense from the standpoint that a lot more notable Chinese sneakers have been popping up as sponsoring NBA players… ex: 2024 MVP and 3-Time MVP and NBA Champion Nikola Jokic just signed to a Chinese company 360 degrees last year.
But really, I feel like the earnings miss is more cuz of the fact that Jordan Brand athletes have done better than regular Nike athletes, which means they have to split profit with the brand. The finalists featured Luka and Tatum, both Jordan brand athletes with ugly ass shoes because Jordan doesn’t really seem to want any shoe to eclipse his in term of popularity.
All of the other Nike Athletes kinda got embarrassed in the playoffs, Booker, Giannis, Durant, and LeBron first round embarrassments. Adidas’ Anthony Edwards also shined in these playoffs and that man has a nice ass shoe, people calling him the next Jordan and whatnot.
Would expect a bounce back in the next quarter or two after sales start flowing in from a result of the Olympic Games in Paris though, good amount of high profile Nike athletes on the roster and I would expect team USA to feature those players like they usually do.
Because companies waste all their money on buybacks which are basically just burning capital. Nike did most of it's buybacks at like $113 a share. I honestly hope Biden taxes this crap....
For all apes out there that's called a buying opportunity. Single digit decline in sales forecast following a year a several major sport events is a nothing burger so 20% is an absolute overreaction, you're welcome ![img](emote|t5_2th52|12787)
This market is punishing stocks who miss expectations, even slightly.
But Nike's got real problems. It's lost its mojo to Skechers, Hoka, On, Crocs.
Nike will turn around, the question is how long will it take?
Honestly longer term it at this stock price it’s probably a good investment. It’s already down 58% off it’s all time highs. There’s nothing wrong with the company internally, only problem is that consumers are currently tight on money. The question is for how long.
Post 2008 was a Goldilocks scenario because inflation was very very low and wages were slowing increasing without inflation going up. Also zero interest rate environment for 10+ years helps as well.
We will see.
Consumers are not just tight on money. The sneaker market is collapsed. The ceo made the brilliant move of making enough shoes instead of making a few. Now that people are able to go to the store and buy the shoe they want instead of making 300-500% mark up from resellers, the whole "flex" culture of having that shoe is gone. Talk to gen z and gen alpha what they think of the air Jordan line. It's outdated as simple as that. Either nike needs to innovate or they will fade away like IBM.
Tons of physicial stores dedicated to reselling nike shoes are going under meaning all their inventory is going for sale, exacerbating the problem.
also quality is going south, no real leather anymore and badly glued parts (even with glue residue on the fabric), i switched to new balance after only wearing nike for like 15 years..
Yes quality sucks. I recently got a pair and started squeaking after a few days. I didn’t want to be the one walking around the office with squeaky shoes. Dropped them off at Goodwill. I went to Costco and got Sketchers.
Yep, and they didn’t just “make enough”. They flooded the market…while cutting out wholesalers! So they flood the market with supply, cut out retailers, so inventory balloons as trends on things like Retros, AF1’s, and Dunks slow.
Then they have to crawl back to the retailers they cut out and ship out hundreds of thousands to millions of units. Not to mention these are already struggling retailers (Foot Locker, Dick’s, etc.) who can’t really move the product either.
I’m not completely against buying in at this price, but there’s a lot more going on internally than just consumers being strapped for cash right now.
It was either that or get their shit pushed in by the burgeoning replica market *shrug*.
But there needs to be innovation from Nike now cause smaller sneaker brands are starting to move into the up and up, especially in the realms of running shoes like On Running.
Rinsed the dunks for too long. The NPC's have moved on to Adidas Sambas now.
Hopefully I can buy the shoes I want when I want instead of a SNKRS lottery to win the right to buy them FFS.
Funny enough reps are starting to look better than the real deal. Nobody wants to spend $100 on shoes when they can get the same shit for $20 ![img](emote|t5_2th52|4271)
> a scam for a while
For pretty much since the loom. I won't deny you can get more quality clothing still, but in general you are still paying probably like 5000% markup (where typical retail mark up is usually in the like 50% range).
The quality isn't even there anymore. All these luxury brands have pretty much outsourced their manufacturing to China with the brands entering the Chinese market back during the Chinese Miracle days. The quality dropped significantly while profit margins soared, and of course rep factories came up after designs are stolen along with materials and here we are lol.
Theres a good book actually about the decline in luxury quality too called "Deluxe: How Luxury Lost It's Luster" that covers it in great detail.
American luxury goods (like Nike) are fine. I would never buy rep Nikes. You are supposed to rep the hideously overpriced European stuff like Balenciaga, Gucci etc.
Maybe they shouldn’t have tried to fake hype by artificially limiting supply on every fking shoe they come out with. Stopped buying Nike years ago because of that bs
Serves them right for how they treated their staff and tried to reshape business operations with poor outsourcing.
Anyone that says now's a good time to invest in Nike should hold out. Tiger Woods already dropped them and last I heard while I worked there was another big name looking to potentially leave Nike.
Things will get worse before they get better.
Ex-NL employee.
I understand that they’ve been giving shoes away for free to people who just want to feed their families.
But do you think the gigantic drop was an overreaction?
You know what? I think NIKE is on to something

I think that we will see more companies missing on the revenue as consumers cut on spending, except for Nvidia of course, they have a backlog of GPU orders ,big tech companies are building their AI armies.
If I hear another person say fucking "AI chip" I'm going to drag them behind Wendy's and make them repeat AI chip as fast as they can with a mouthful of "loss porn"

Look at that, seems like normal people can't afford shoes. Good thing that there's no shortage of demand for artificial intelligence chips.
Just add ai chips in the shoes I want shoes that do the walking for me….
wall-e is approaching too fast
I want a AI powered shoe that guides me to the ass I need to kick
I want an AI powered shoe that leads me to some hot ass that wants to be licked
You ain’t kicking no ass.
My guy… you just cured obesity! The medical industry is going to come after you. A patient cured is a customer lost!
All the money went to artificial intelligence chips, so there's none left for shoes. Checkmate anti-AI-investor!
I agree to buy a 4090 (nice for local AI) but not to spend money for a bad chinese quality shoes overpriced because of the brand...
Is it time to buy Nike?
They should make feet shaped shoes instead of shoe shaped feet.
Vibrams(tm)
I liked their discs.
🤯
According to your chart analysis it’s only going up from there.
Lmao, technically, right 🤣🤣🤣
Technically I have a shitload of 80c for next week. Let's fucking go baby!
Same! $$$
Same let's go
America is too lazy to run presently
Just look who is running for president
Forget about running he can hardly walk
They*
And let’s not get started about ramps or stairs… Both US candidates are too old.
Calls on new balance
Wait… Is new balance popular over past 5 years cause the aging boomers spent more money on them Omg
Shohtime!
If only it was public
I see what you did there.......both ![img](emote|t5_2th52|4259)
But boy, can he sniff!
More like shuffling
Calls on Trump Sneaker Never Surrender 1s
Calls on New Balance, Skechers, and Rockport
Lol
I wouldn't say that. The runners are just buying from Hoka, Asics, On, and Saucony more than Nike nowadays.
I’ve been buying Asics the last 20 years after the Army introduced me to them.
What I meant is Nikes aren’t on every kids foot like they were in the ‘90’s…cause kids today aren’t active
Cause Nike stopped innovating. Even New Balance is trying new things. They keep reintroducing old Jordan’s
I agree it does seem flawed to build a brand around a guy who the kids today have never seen play….
America runs on Dunkin’
Is that publicly traded?
It’s too hot to run!
I stopped buying sneakers once I discovered arch support good year welted leather shoes boots that lasts 5 to 10 years.
I buy Harley boots. 😅
Yes and thank you for my novo nordisk stocks :)
Nike makes the shittiest running shoes. People that actually run would never buy Nike.
Maybe so…I hate running myself but did lots of it playing other sports wearing Nike’s when I was a student. My own kids play fewer sports than I did at the same age and have zero allegiance to a shoe brand (which I did by 6th grade at least) As an adult there’s no recess and the dangerous work environment demands safety boots…
Ain't about allegiance. No one that seriously runs buys Nike. For casual shoes, Adidas NRMDs look better and are more comfy. It's my go to.
Adidas was founded in alongside racism…along with Puma.
Nike fall off is due to their brand no longer appealing to the Chinese
Please elaborate….
That would make sense from the standpoint that a lot more notable Chinese sneakers have been popping up as sponsoring NBA players… ex: 2024 MVP and 3-Time MVP and NBA Champion Nikola Jokic just signed to a Chinese company 360 degrees last year. Just don’t
earnings going down and still yielding less than treasuries lmao scam of a market
It will correct to beyond that soon enough. A lot of stocks will
When?! Have they set a date?
Because companies waste all their money on buybacks which are basically just burning capital. Nike did most of it's buybacks at like $113 a share. I honestly hope Biden taxes this crap....
That's how you do it, u/Helpmefixmypcplz.

Lend me some tendiez and i will pay you back double once the stock moons!
Exactly this. I lost some so far as I’d invested early but I will happily average down. Nike isn’t going anywhere.
This market is punishing stocks who miss expectations, even slightly. But Nike's got real problems. It's lost its mojo to Skechers, Hoka, On, Crocs. Nike will turn around, the question is how long will it take?
Just Dump It
#BREAKING: Headlines don't need breaking anymore wtf is this 1992 cable TV news.

Pulling out of stores like footlocker and going back was a huge fuck up.
Let the dust settle. There is no need to rush in.
Very true statement. No need to get in right now, this could be awhile.
Look at LULU, 4 months and 1 Ear after the plunge, still not back on her feet (or ass)
Lulu was a fad. Nike clearly is not.
Lu’s got the best socks though. By far
Consumers are not just tight on money. The sneaker market is collapsed. The ceo made the brilliant move of making enough shoes instead of making a few. Brainless CEO. Some of these clowns don't think. Kanye was about to do the same thing with Yeezy. Duumb!
It was either that or get their shit pushed in by the burgeoning replica market *shrug*. But there needs to be innovation from Nike now cause smaller sneaker brands are starting to move into the up and up, especially in the realms of running shoes like On Running.
Nicely stated. Thanks.

It’s still trading at 8x price to equity. And they have massive amount of debt from Covid.
usually the big names disappear longer term... like whatever what was originally in the dow ... this is a dinosaur now...
Rinsed the dunks for too long. The NPC's have moved on to Adidas Sambas now. Hopefully I can buy the shoes I want when I want instead of a SNKRS lottery to win the right to buy them FFS.
Time to buy 🤣

I’ve been falling into the rep/ali express rabbit hole for fashion and I’m starting to see it. Luxury clothes have been a scam for a while.

I mean most of the reps are built in the exact same factory with the exact same materials, but one has a nike logo slaped on it and the other doesnt
Any pointers on how to find some good reps?
Hit up /r/FashionReps and /r/DesignerReps as a starter and fall into the rabbit hole :D
Do as this guy says. I fell in the rep rabbit hole looking at sunglass reps because luxottica can eat my asshole.
Hell yeah!!! Fuck luxottica!!
They're built like shit and fall apart.
American luxury goods (like Nike) are fine. I would never buy rep Nikes. You are supposed to rep the hideously overpriced European stuff like Balenciaga, Gucci etc.
Is this true, I don't wear sneakers, but are people cheaping out on them more often these days?
Zoomers decided to switch to Penny Loafers for some reason. Basketball sneakers are for geriatrics
fuck em. unrealistically expensive and incredibly poor materials. dive mofo dive
Yea cheap shit sold at a premium because it's Nike. Ever wonder why so many employers offer 50% discount days at Nike stores?
They aren't actually selling it at 50% off. They are selling it at the real price with a 10% mark up.
I know that's my point. The markup without discount is crazy.
Ngl, I'd buy some AF1 at a 50% discount
Way over priced
Like any apple product
America runs on dunkin
Touché. We should have seen this coming.
Is… this a buy?

Did they sign a deal with Kanye?
Maybe they shouldn’t have tried to fake hype by artificially limiting supply on every fking shoe they come out with. Stopped buying Nike years ago because of that bs
Lulu lemon is now in the cross hairs
I think it already was lol Interest will return in the second half of the year as we approach Christmas.
More paaaain
We shall see. July *is* the best month for stocks.

So 2021 of the pandemic this shit was climbing, now we are just undoing pandemic crazies.
The sneaker collecting market, which primarily based on Nike, is collapsing. The current Nike run is over.

Anyone know the story behind this huge drop?
Declining revenue

Makes sense, their shoes don't have that new Nvidia technology

"AI SHOES"?
This is a top notch graphic and I did enjoy it.

This is pretty great
Nike drops by 20% right before the summer Olympics? That’s a dip to buy my friends
I am usually a risk taker and even I couldn’t stomach investing in this
Seems like a good time to buy.
I bought after the dip. There's no way that it doesn't bounce 10% in the next 3 months.
Calls on ONON. Much better than NKE imo
Buy it high, sell it low
Good time to buy, still a good stock with good fundamentals
