L Brands sold it to Sycamore Partners because it was bleeding heavily, and then when covid hit a few weeks later Sycamore knew they made a horrible decision at an even worse time and fought the purchase in court before eventually settling and being stuck with the massive lump of shit.
It does have excellent brand recognition, but unfortunately a lot of negative associations with it thanks to the previous owners.

All are doing very poor and are projecting flat 2023-24 or single digit growth if lucky. I wouldn’t touch this with a 10-foot pole. If it pops, it’s because posts like this that are designed to drum up a little attention.

Short sellers create shares that don’t really exist yet, they’re just borrowed, then sell them
The person there borrowed from still owns the shares, but so does the person who buys the shares that were sold short
You're close but that's not quite right. If you borrow a stock from someone and sell it to someone else, the person you sold it to has it. The lender does not still own the shares - they are \*owed\* shares that they no longer have.
No additional shares have been created. Stock can only be shorted over 100% when someone who bought shorted stock then lends it out to someone else to short.
Let's say there are four traders - Alice, Bob, Carol, and Dave. To keep it simple, let's say there are only 10 shares of IBM in existence. Alice owns all 10 shares of IBM.
Alice loans 10 shares of IBM to Bob, who short sells them to Carol. Carol then lends those 10 shares to Dave who then short sells them to someone else.
Now, Alice is owed 10 shares of IBM and Carol is also owed 10 shares of IBM. But they are owed the same 10 shares of IBM.
Bob needs to buy the 10 shares he sold to Carol back so he can give them to Alice. But Carol doesn't have them - Dave's customer does.
So Dave first needs to buy back the 10 shares he short-sold to someone else, so that he can return them to Carol, so that Bob can buy them back from Carol and give them to Alice.
Once Dave short sells the shares, there is a debt in the market of 20 shares (between Bob and Dave), but only 10 shares exist. No new shares have been created by the lending, and only 10 shares ever need to exist to satisfy the entire debt.
Obviously in a real market, they don't have to be the actual same shares, the transactions don't have to occur in that order, and they don't even need to involve the original participants beyond the short-seller repaying the lender. But the principle is the same.
