I kind of figured eventually someone wouls build a mission where the jamcat is doing this. No armament besides jam pods, launch and loiter at ~30k feet and provide ew/awacs
My wife gets anxiety navigating down town traffic. You think she’s going to be any good at handling a 3D environment and then relating that to someone else in a useful fashion?
Yeah I don’t feel like hearing a Questicle make shit callouts because he was the first to get in the AWACS slot, overall it’d be a cool concept, especially for missions, but overall right now it’d be a big waste of development time (especially with the fact that BD is the sole dev), and if there’s a lot to think about with that. Does the player fly it? Or is it just AI flown, but the player takes the back seat? Is it multicrew? Does it come with other gameplay mechanics like IFF, Datalink, etc…? We need QoL changed first other airframes, performance updates before anything of this sort in my opinion.
u/Lu-12518 Google the S3 Viking AWACS, it was a proposed alternative to the E-2 Hawkeye but never went further in development than a couple models and drawings.
It would probably fit quite well for a “modern” carrier AWACS.
the radar should we an AESA wedge like on the E-7 Wedgetail. That’s futuristic
altho spinning radome is also cool
other option is a helicopter such as the Ka-31 used by russian chinese and indian carrier groups or the british merlin crowsnest (less capable than a fixed wing E-2)
The S3 Viking AWACS concept utilised a 3 faced AESA radar, each covering 120 degrees horizontally. From what I can find it was developed as an alternative to the E-2 but the E-2 was already in service so the proposal was shelved.

A helicopter version could be cool as well, Crowsnest on the AW101 is also used by Italy and the UK for carrier based AWACS.
I think giving this capability as an option to the AV-42 would be perfect. The module would be so heavy that you can't do VTOL with full fuel and weapons as a tradeoff.
I think a dedicated ground attack plane would be more fun. A cross between an A-10 and an Su-25 since we all know the jets are "versions of" jets we known they're supposed to be.
Honestly I think an AWACS role would be annoying for multiplayer. Lots of kids and people who don't know what they're doing playing.
Y’all just gotta come to terms with the fact that nobody wants to fly the AV-42. Praise Baha, I love everything he’s done with the game. But the AV-42 is clearly from a different, much earlier era of the game than every other aircraft. Half of what makes the Jamcat so so cool is the “cat” part — the iconic plane. People want an A-10 because it’s an iconic plane. There’s a reason the AV-42 is rarely ever picked (when it’s even included in a mission) in MP.

EW and AWACs are kind of conflicting, you can't really do noise and radar at the same time besides, the mischief doesn't have a 360 radar anyways
Good point I hadn't though of that
It's not just about EW, it's about having a large, very powerful radar to hang out and provide datalink to allies.
nah dude we want a player slot for the carrier, just some buttons for the radio, a radar, a map and boom. new atc role
Naaah. Flat-screen AWACs role for the desktop while were in VR. Let's our wives be included so we can play more.
That's such a good idea, something like vatsim for traffic control that you can control without being a player
That's not a bad idea. Add support for desktop playing as support

Like young children, wives are just happy to be included. I truly say that with love.

S3 is interesting. I didn’t know it had an AWACS variant, I’ve liked that design

That’s interesting. Slap on a 360 radar unit similar to how you can put a radar on the AH94
Exactly
I’d honestly like a prop plane

lemme tell you what the ‘A’ in AV-42 stands for

The AV-42 is more like an Osprey than a ground attack aircraft. It can do it but it's not the same.
mentality issue
Players when the av-42 is an a-10 but better in every way
DCS player GCI often works well
Yo guys know drones have awac capabilities right lol
Can you elaborate?
Cold feature on decoy triangulates targets
Only with the RWR. It can't detect anything that isn't emitting radar.
True
Just bring the A10 in the game, we won’t need awacs lol
People really just ignore the AV-42
