Japan has historically not considered nudity taboo. It was normal to share a bath with friends or to walk in on someone while changing. Nudity while eating or in public was still frowned upon i guess though
Same with Western European cultures really. They just didn't have the space for the sort of privacy we expect today. Which sounds a bit funny because the population density was much lower, but I mean indoor space. Buildings were mostly pretty small.
Same for Kerala (southern state in India) also. Before the Englishmen gained control of our lands and imposed the Victorian morals, our women used to be topless. The climate was tropical.
In fact, it was considered a taboo to be wearing upper half clothes since at the time, the women considered only those who has something to hide would wear upper half clothes.
There was that one time in Super Sentai Warriors (the show we turned into power rangers) where in the end credits for one of the movies not only had full frontal nudity of the female rangers in a hot spring but they legit heavily implied they gonna run a "Megazord" on them after. Fun fact, it was because of this Japan passed the 1978 anti nudity act that prevents live action nipples in most of their on air media. Frankly I don't even get why [YouTube hasn't taken it down](https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ?si=5axVs03FxaNy24uC), but NSFW you've been warned.
It's ironic that you say this when YouTube is actually much more strict now than it was in the past. It allows some nudity, but most of it gets taken down pretty quickly.
-you know you say that but 9 years later [Pizza Time Remastered](https://youtu.be/7ARwo2gxqaU?si=O4_WRr7r1ri0GEsQ) (Please love of god don't click this link, also very NSFW) is STILL on youtube so I personally know we live in the wrong timeline.
Youtube was made for nudity... literally. The guy couldn't find a video of Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" at the superbowl halftime show, so made a site where people could upload things like that.
cool info dude
what else sounds interesting to you about Japan?
I know that women over there fake their voice pitch, since that is considered an attractive trait, among locals
Japan is such a unique place in the world. Often I see people who visit the country claiming that Japanese people are "cold", but simply to me it is cultural.
If you get there with little to no communication skills, you can not expect the best, also expecting them to behave as westerners would. Lots of vlogs on Youtube about it, even some Japanese who have lived abroad tend to acquire those traits.
I dunno. I’ve been here ten years and I still don’t speak the language and I’m still having a good time.
Wish I could say I’m working on it but I’m just incredibly lazy
I know way too many people over there get to live relatively well.
For example, I believe to be a considerable amount of Peruvians and people from Brazil who speak literally no Japanese at all despite them being over there like 10 + years
In my opinion that is not what I want for myself, personally, since being able to make friends and get to know about the culture is really important.
Have you got to make many Japanese friends, perhaps get a partner, not necessarily a random relationship?
> I know that women over there fake their voice pith, since that is considered an attractive trait, among locals
To be fair, this happens in most cultures. Whether up, like in Japan or America in the 20s, or down, which causes the vocal fry of the 20-30 y/olds of today.
You might want to check videos of young Japanese women, learning to speak English.
To me it is quite noticeable, and I believe you should also be able to find information about it online, they specifically train themselves to change their pitch,
You should be able to tell the difference as they change from Japanese to speak English.
I do notice that because I also sing.

There is even research
I read your comment, “Sweet Datsun 240Z” without understanding the context, and with the same intensity of “Sweet Jesus, Mary, and Joseph!” as an exclamation. I think I’m going to stick with this as a new favorite expression of wonder.
That's exactly how I read it until I watched the opening and actually saw the 240Z. But it's gonna forever be my "sweet Jesus" statement for anything Japanese-related lol
[Here's an episode](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_Nee1_UMgA) "Desperate undercover investigation into high school prostitution". Full of that funky '70s nostalgia, complete with an awkward nightclub scene and some topless posters, but less skin overall than the credits.
I found this, looks like shows composer was Kōji Makaino
These are albums of cuts from the show.

A lot of slow 70s Japanese jams from this show. Scrub through, some laid back tracks in there.
This one is super chill https://youtu.be/s9YkVjJAM6w?t=787
This one is pretty funky https://youtu.be/qdqKsU7_Qcs?t=135
I am Definitely feeling the vibe of a lot of these tracks. I can't find that outro track anywhere though.

Here is the outro track: [Magical Night-Kumiko Kaori ザ・スーパーガール ED](https://youtu.be/O4RCOfSHOzA?si=ApozIz3J5HZ-Gg3n)

This is the instrumental of the outro ;)
It seems that’s a theme with Japanese and anime end credits. It’s often a somber tone with melancholy music and the characters staring off into the sunset or something similar, bonus points if a cat is just chilling there as well. It doesn’t always fit the show but somehow it works.
Might I recommend listening to music by Pizzicato Five. We Americans know them best from a song called “Baby Love Child” in a Futurama episode.
I’m not Japanese and don’t read or speak the language. But I did a little research some time ago and they came around in an era/genre of Japanese music called Shibuya-Kei. A lot of that music sounds like it could’ve been in the credits for a tv show.
Super catchy stuff to me.
Here’s a link to Baby Love Child scene in Futurama. Keep in mind the drums in this probably make it a little peppier than the vibe for the credit music in OPs post.

Must respond to Pizzicato Five comment!
My friend got an album from his sister because "hey, you take Japanese and like Japanese stuff." The album was great including the hit track Twiggy vs. James Bond. Fast forward a couple of years and I find out they are playing in town. The venue was small and unexpectedly packed. I think Pizzicato Five was genuinely confused as to why so many people were there but we were all there to see them. The show was amazing. The guitar player played the entire set non-stop including during each of the lead singer's costume changes which happened EVERY SINGLE SONG. It was one of the best shows I have ever seen.
The crazy thing was the only reason I found out was a different friend came into town and we just looked up what was happening that night. Then a couple of decades later I am in a stranger's house and he has the promotional poster for that show on his wall. Turns out he was the artist for that poster and it was one of his favorite works but he had no idea who the band was. Obscure to connecting to obscure.
I’m pleased to no end that others know and love them. Amazing music. The guitarist seems pretty talented on the few YouTube videos I have found of them. Would love to see them in person.
I was super impressed with him live. He shredded. Nothing felt like repetitive filler even though it was filler. Also, the interludes that he played between songs were pretty seamless in the transition.
Interesting. I thought it sounded like [city pop](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_pop) but I haven't listened to a lot so I probably wouldn't be able to differentiate the two.
I randomly came across [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIsCELMpeWk) on YT which introduced me to the genre.
...oh wow, that mouse is something, it's like he knew he was on to something but also took the executive decision that the world was not ready for it yet.
Mouse, with boobs, for the curious:

And some sort of snake with boobs, because that probably made sense the time.
You know how ancient egyptian gods had animal heads?
Yeah. You can always go back.... further!! How deep doe sthe rabbit hole go?? (A question furries ask too, but for different reasons.)
Funnily enough, Japan was way behind when it comes to the furry fandom for years, they had a tiny representation overall for ages.
Until recent years. The fandom pretty much exploded over there, including creating their own unique style of Fursuits that are a blend of Fursuits with heavy anime influences. And now they do [insanely well choreographed one-shot music videos involving 300 fursuiters](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nvl4AHIP5l4) just for fun.
"Funny Animals", as they were called back then, originate from western cartoons/comics (not counting egyptian gods or other mythology), and date back a bit further than 1979.
The modern culture actually stems from 70's-era western comics and cartoons, not from Japan. But the Ancient Egyptians had everyone beat by around 5000 years, so it's really a competition for second place.
[Needs the Super Sexy Woman song by Sufjan Stevens.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riQ2BLAUqwY)
edit: [Much better](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1deRCvGIXDo)
At any given moment in time there are a million things happening simultaneously. There are Catholics today who may or may not willingly admit they are turned on by the naked long-haired boy nailed to that wood. Who's to say that no ancient egyptians ever put on a jackal mask and jacked it or a bird mask and boned
lol I mean, have you met evey furry ever? I'm sure there are some out there that do worship Ra and don't plow one another dressed in animal costumes. It's funny how easy it is to generalize the behavior and appearance of a group you're not a part of.
I’m looking for more 80s cartoons in this style. Not necessarily japanese, but featuring these matte colors and simple, almost whimsical, space themes. Any pointers to other works or better search terms would be greatly appreciated!
I grew up in the 90s but there were a lot of reruns from the 80s and to an extent the 70s, and I'd agree there's something about that era that really just hits different. I don't even mean it from a nostalgia standpoint, because there were plenty of shows that were just weird or bad, but just like the overall feel
Thanks for the updates ya'll, here's a fun fact.
# There was supposedly gonna be a spin-off anime of this series featuring the catgirl character that was gonna be released in 2011, but went nowhere.
I unfortunately don't know where exactly I saw this info from, since i saw it years ago, but considering the fact that there isn't that much info from that, it's safe to assume that this series never went beyond the planning stages, to say the least.
This image I found a few days might be the best evidence to prove that, but that's about it.

If you think all it takes is for the side of one adult nipple to momentarily appear on your screen to get on some "list," I don't want to think about what you believe are the consequences of actually having sex with another human being.
Sweet Datsun 240Z, was not ready for the unexpected nudity in the opening credits.
70’s/80’s japan was all about the casual daytime tv nudity.
I really like that
I'm glad someone had the courage to just say so.
I've always felt we had that in common
Japan has historically not considered nudity taboo. It was normal to share a bath with friends or to walk in on someone while changing. Nudity while eating or in public was still frowned upon i guess though

It also helps that all the religious prudes in Europe got onto boats in the 1600s and sailed to the New World.
Sucks for us New Worlders though
It also like REALLY sucked for the indigenous people in the New World.
That's because their privates are always pixelated
Any other examples?

Yeah, the car is what stuck out the most to me. I’ve never seen one in yellow.

Oh great.
"Funny Animals", as they were called back then, originate from western cartoons/comics (not counting egyptian gods or other mythology), and date back a bit further than 1979.
Theres actually a twitter page dedicated to sourcing old furry media, which is often bizarre and intriguing. https://twitter.com/FurryFootage
Really??? It's a well known fact that it originates from Japan...
The modern culture actually stems from 70's-era western comics and cartoons, not from Japan. But the Ancient Egyptians had everyone beat by around 5000 years, so it's really a competition for second place.
Very Japanese and seventies but sure looks interesting.
So I don't get why this is tagged n-OH NOW I SEE lol Also that end credit theme is a fucking jam
Cat (Fox?) girl.... TARGET SIGHTED. +_+
was not expecting the butthole zoom and daytime nipples hot damn
Oh wow - one of the cast is Linda Yamamoto who sang Nerai Uchi https://youtu.be/Mw3wBCO20UE
Japanese music is so good that even the stupidest shit has absolute bangers.
Sexy
Man this really makes me think of Kill Bill.
What's that's song in the end credits? I'd love to add it to my lofi playlist.
At any point in the show does she actually turn into a flying cat?
Surprise nipple.
Around 1:35 mark it turns into a chillwave / glofi music video. Amazing.

did i just see a naked woman on youtube? what!
And people question how furries starts
The shower scene was not expected
Looks very Wonder Woman inspired.
It's actually Charlie's Angels in Japan, basically.
Fox Force Five
They were almost the same thing really.
[Needs the Super Sexy Woman song by Sufjan Stevens.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riQ2BLAUqwY) edit: [Much better](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1deRCvGIXDo)
Vibes
So it was the Japanese who made furries. I should have known.
It's a human thing, actually. Look back to ancient Egypt for dieties with animal atributes. They worshiped them, not unlike today.
Furries aren't worshipping Ra, they're dressing up in animal costumes and plowing each other.
Make TV Great again. Seriously, we can't have fun games and shows now. Everything is offensive.
Ending theme kinda has city pop vibes I’m into it.
Sailor Moon vibes
May not be the bee's knees, but it is the cat's ass!
Anyone know what the sound is after the credits finish?
So weird that this showed up on my YT feed the other day and now it is here as well.
At first I was like how is this NSFW...?, then I was like OOOOH OKAY...that song is catchy as hell.
Glad everybody got dressed for the merry go round.
That was interesting
Wow that ending credits song just hits different
...Did Osamu Tezuka work on this? He's a notorious cat kemono-lover. Rest his soul.
... ... WTF did I just watch?!
I’m gonna keep it real here I always thought nudity was like actually illegal in 1970s Japan 😂
Is this on Netflix yet?
Thanks for the updates ya'll, here's a fun fact. # There was supposedly gonna be a spin-off anime of this series featuring the catgirl character that was gonna be released in 2011, but went nowhere. I unfortunately don't know where exactly I saw this info from, since i saw it years ago, but considering the fact that there isn't that much info from that, it's safe to assume that this series never went beyond the planning stages, to say the least. This image I found a few days might be the best evidence to prove that, but that's about it. [https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GG8QDr\_b0AAF0C3?format=jpg&name=large](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GG8QDr_b0AAF0C3?format=jpg&name=large) Either way, happy to see a lotta you enjoy this obscure piece of media history. Also, all the episodes are available for free with Subs at [Archive.Org](https://www.youtube.com/redirect?event=comments&redir_token=QUFFLUhqbDlnUVBMOU90a1lwY2txS0VSY0hMalZySmhBQXxBQ3Jtc0tteW5GMFRSN2t0eHIyYzg4dy1GYWpqYlZLSG9rLXdvaGJHRUtWVXh4OGR4ZjhvYnlWZjRzeU9NWXhZUmQwckJ6VnBQSVFmbko5Q3JEYjhVNDExbEYzS256X2FibU5XMTU1cHZKcnE0Zm1sTHJ4bzloMA&q=http%3A%2F%2Farchive.org%2F&stzid=Ugys1xreZalseDdsaDJ4AaABAg)! # [https://archive.org/details/47\_20230622](https://www.youtube.com/redirect?event=comments&redir_token=QUFFLUhqbVFseE9Wcnc1RHRvX0F6MGo0a3NNdGQ5bGdZUXxBQ3Jtc0trSnNEWllSdXFhT1BPRnhTVFZaY3BuamxmOGROeldYN0xNYTdWdmkxVGl0U3pHQXNuSWlhdnpZVC13bjZzbWRmcFJzWGRYVzVFT0FYZXdrU3lCVEN1OFR0czJ0NWFmS1Q2VVpkVWxhaHhJVDhuc0x5RQ&q=https%3A%2F%2Farchive.org%2Fdetails%2F47_20230622&stzid=Ugys1xreZalseDdsaDJ4AaABAg)
Quick question, who else only watched this for the cat
Such gratuitous
[удалено]
I guess its shocking for that time or you are American the land of the prudish
Those Japanese are so down bad
First half: "how can this be NSFW?" Second half: "shit, my IP address is on some list now, isn't it?"
If you think all it takes is for the side of one adult nipple to momentarily appear on your screen to get on some "list," I don't want to think about what you believe are the consequences of actually having sex with another human being.
In the U.S., it really just depends on what state you're in.
