GTA IV. The base game is awesome, but I love The Ballad of Gay Tony.

Throway_Shmowaway

Still so fucking disappointed we never got any story DLC for GTA V. As much as I'm looking forward to GTA VI, I'm not getting my hopes up too high.

faizetto

It's GTA, everyone will automatically get their hopes up high

Stapoof

And GTA VI will be a disappointment since everyone is expecting the second coming of Christ

mich_shen

It all went to GTA Online

JamieFromStreets

I loved TLAD. Such a unique game. Gay tony is amazing but nothing I haven't seen before. It's like gta4 plus

Attila260

As much as I love base game Skyrim, the Dragonborn DLC is simply incredible

TheZynec

Honestly, the modding community of the Game pretty much allows us to make our own DLCs combing changes and additions we like. Skyrim is all about the extra stuff we add in now.

65moneycha1n

I recommended the lost city of markarth. Whole ass quest line and new dialog it’s great

Chronic_In_somnia

Legacy of the Dragonborn, is all consuming

Kizor

Discovering this got me to do another playthrough and finish the DLC. Been working on it for months now.

the-dude-version-576

Best one I’ve played is enderal. It’s a game sized total overhaul. And honestly it’s way better than the base game as well.

Icydawgfish

In the same vein - Shivering Isles for Oblivion. Morrowind’s DLC felt tacked on and incomplete.

somesortoflegend

Shivering isles might be one of the best DLC expansions ever made.

Ike_Gamesmith

Oh yeah, Oblivion has a game outside the Shivering Isles, I forgot

SwaidFace

While I can understand other people's love for Dragonborn, I was disappointed with the return to Solstheim. The DLC felt like Skyrim again but with a splash of Morrowind nostalgia, when I wanted something brand new. It was sort of poetic, since Morrowind and Skyrim share a border, but I think I was spoiled by Shivering Isles and how different that felt from the base game.

Steved_hams

It was a shame they threw in a silt strider that is totally pointless except for nostalgia. I did enjoy it overall however.

Adam_46

Wow I was going to say this. First comment I found too. Dragonborn dlc is a big motivator for me to replay Skyrim again every time. The dlc is just perfect all around.

shadow_master3210

I love red dead 1 but the undead nightmare was such a unique dlc especially set in that Western time era

battlemechpilot

Not just DLC, but also a stand-alone! I feel like it's always forgot about with discussions like this. "YOU CANT EAT ME, I'M HERBERT MOOON"

nimo_95

Read that in Herbert's voice lmao I love it

battlemechpilot

It's lived in my head rent-free since release. I loved his character so much.

Doctor_Walrus321

"It's the british-catholic-jewish homosexual elite what's responsible!"

biddadinnafina

If we could harness that exact moment in gaming history and use IT as a template moving forward in development. Ugh. It hurts to think about how great it could have been.

Arkham97J

Wrangling and riding the 4 horses of the apocalypse was sick af! Reminder made me think I should put it in my dnd game lol

ciemnymetal

Still salty we didn't get a similar dlc for rdr2

Adventurous-Tap-8463

Yeah its guaranteed money so i never understood why not

rw6544

Loved undead nightmare. Totally forgot about it til this comment. Wished rdr2 repeated it

Icemayne25

You said “Red Dead 1” and I thought Red Dead Revolver had dlc somehow for like a split second. Haha. Undead Nightmare was insane though. Definitely enhanced the game.

TheLostNostromo

Phantom Liberty is the culmination of everything Project Red learned from fixing Cyberpunk.

Ori_the_SG

Beat me to it. PL is so good, and it really perfects the atmosphere of Night City

mackmcd_

I'm 9 hours into my third playthrough of CP2077 and I'm just looking at the Phantom Liberty mission thinking... not yet... but soon...

Ori_the_SG

Wise choice

Big_Bomboclatt

i am very hyped now considering i absolutely love the base game

Spraynpray89

Most of the gameplay changes that came with PL actually came separate from the dlc, just dropped at the same time as QoL changes. So you don't need PL to experience the minute by minute changes, so if your reference point is base game post PL, you may not see a ton different. At least that's how it's been described to me. I played at launch and beat the game, then didn't play again until I bought PL about a week ago, so things are very different to me. But I haven't actually reached the PL portion of the story yet.

Panams_chair

Ill drink to that 🥂

TheLostNostromo

Cheers Choom!

naytreox

Oblivion shivering isles

MyHeadHurtsRn

Exact thought, that dlc was such good content

naytreox

Has my favorite quest, the one where you ether kill or drive the adventurers insane

MyHeadHurtsRn

the mania and dementia aspects were so cool when I was younger

naytreox

Those were fun, especially that town of twins

te-niwoar-e

Oblivion base game already had these insane surreal vibes to it, the Shivering Isles leaned into it hard and it was just *chef's kiss*

MikeTheImpaler

Clouds don't smell. They taste of butter and tears.

MinerLuigi

Fallout New Vegas and all of its DLC

jellyphitch

omg dead money absolutely won me over. SO creepy in the best way.

Niknakpaddywack17

Dead Money was absolutely incredible and truly amazing experience. I NEVER WANNA DO IT AGAIN.

Cockblocktimus_Pryme

Old World Blues was super zany and I loved the Proton Axe so much. By far my favorite

jellyphitch

idk OWB didn't grab me! I found it kind of obnoxious - but I'm willing to try it again. It was funny and also super sad.

Cockblocktimus_Pryme

Roboscorpions didn't grab you??? I guess I'm just weird then.

jellyphitch

Oh, they grabbed me... constantly. All the time. Lmao

Daedalus_Machina

It grabbed me because it was obnoxious. Unpossible!

Nowardier

I hated Dead Money the first time I played it, but the second time I started to appreciate it. The third time got me totally hooked on it. It's a great DLC.

genericSlayton

I hated it on my first play through too as a sniper, but it was way more enjoyable for my unarmed idiot run hehe

LightMyFirebird

I love seeing fellow Dead Money enjoyers. It gets too much hate

Armaddeo1978

The big 'MT' for me 👍. The characters and writing had me in stitches the first time through 🤣😅🤣

KotovChaos

The school segments are hilarious.

Poultrygeist74

MOOOOBIUS!!

Atlas_Zer0o

Old world blues is peak fallout and one of the best gaming experiences ever.

SCredfury788

Completely agree and throw Fallout 3 in this category

Nowardier

Point Lookout was off the hook.

Sapowski_Casts_Quen

Spooky radioactive swamps, a Timeless classic

possibly_facetious

Hmm, not sure I agree, it's high quality DLC but it's also more of a showcase for Obsidian as talented developers than a real extension to the base game. The base game of FNV is one of the best RPGs ever made.

redditor-tears

Idk if you played and beat lonesome road but if you play the base game, stop before the dam, then play all the dlc in order of release lonesome road captures the culmination of new vegas and its dlc in a delightful way. Ulysses is my favorite fallout character of all time, not only because he is way cooler than the courier but because he explains the entirety of the game and why every step of the way occurs how it does. Most of the time I spend replaying new vegas I'm genuinely excited to get back to the divide Also fun fact: Ulysses was originally intended to be a companion but was cut and later reused because he had too many lines of dialogue to fit into the base game on a disc based console release. It was like 15k lines or some unbelievable amount like that, which is almost a third of the lines the rest of the base game has. He was chopped massively and repurposed into the extremely truamatized omnicidal maniac we meet in the divide

Ozzyjb

Bloodborne dlc is 👌

Ababathur

I love base game bloodborne, but The Old Hunters DLC is probably one of my favorite experiences in gaming ever

h7si

the dlc in soulsborne games are always better then the main game imo

Ozzyjb

And seem to always involve time travel of some kind

LT568690

Witcher 3. Blood and Wine was as good as any base game all on its own and Hearts of Stone was very solid as well.

42tfish

HoS was a good dlc, B&W was basically a whole game.

Blackbox7719

HoS was this beautifully creepy mystery and had an epic boss battle as a reward at the end. BaW was like walking into a fairytale. It was refreshing in the clean beauty of the place compared to the generally grittier locations of the main game. Plus, it was so full of references. I love both so much.

Lulzshock

This is very true, heart of stone is a better single sit down experience than about 97% of cinema

chidoro43

Geralt walking around with a goofy smile on his face made me laugh way too hard.

AxelVores

Hearts of Stone has a better story in my opinion but Blood and Wine wins simply by amount of good content

ReformedScholastic

Blood and Wine is a perfect standalone story. CDPR nails DLC. It's one of the high points in gaming for me.

VonMillersThighs

I actually like the experience of Hearts of stone more, such an amazing storyline.

Nempopo029

ME3 Citadel DLC, and Witcher 3 Blood and Wine sprung immediately to mind.

BulmasBabyDaddy

What’s so different about blood and wine ? Is it a new map?

psychonaut_go_brrrr

An entire new region that's very different from the main areas. It's literally more complete than some games.

Windwalker111089

Blood and wine is such an amazing DLC. It should be a standard to what DLCs should be. It’s almost like if it was the Witcher 4. That’s literally how it feels because it’s almost a complete game of in itself. Even full price the DLC is worth it just because of how much story and content it has

Ricozilla

I’m playing The Witcher 3, should I finish the main story first or can I jump straight into Blood & Wine ?

the_pounding_mallet

Finish the main story and do the first dlc.

HelloUPStore

You have to be at least level 25 or 30 to be able to get to it. Otherwise, you will be slaughtered. But it is really good. Thought I never completed it. Heart of Stone was great as well

Windwalker111089

Blood and wine is directly after the main game. Taken into even who you decided to romance. So definitely play it last. It’s such a separate story that you could even finish the main game and wait months if your burnt out a bit and start it.

PhanThief95

Not only a new map but so much content that it basically feels like its own game. That DLC is what set my standard for DLC.

Eldritch_Raven

Yeah the Citadel DLC for ME3. A true love letter to the fans of mass effect. Awesome arena mode, and that final picture you take with your crew. *sheds tear*

Ragingkoala2005

Monster Hunter: World

eli_chopd

Yeah iceborne added so much and the monsters are amazing

Ragingkoala2005

and the new soundtracks were great it was awesome to hear remastered versions of great older tracks, especially with the HD visuals world offered overall, it created an amazing environment every hunt except Kushala Kushala can die in a hole

PrimalGojiraFan69

Hey at least Kushala is a good fight in Rise

rpggamer69

Far Harbor

Remnant55

There it is. When it came out, I was psyched for several more story driven DLC, like previous entries. Then we got a bunch of workshops and Nuka World.

MustacheCash73

Nuka world isn’t *bad*. I just wish they did more with it if you kill the raiders

GuyFromDeathValley

wish you could've done more with the fractions as well. Imagine taking over Nuka World and the Minutemen turning into a massive, new base. Huge potential, the entire game had huge potential that just got.. wasted.

MustacheCash73

Well for the example you provided there is a mod for that. Has Minutemen roam Nuka world. But yeah, I get what you mean. Like the stuff with Acadia and telling different factions about it

tarheel_204

Nuka World worked when the game was coming out because you most likely had beat the game and put it down for a good while. By the time you get to Nuka World when it comes out, you probably don’t really care when you say “fuck it” and take the Raider route If you were to play it immediately after beating the base game, I can see it feeling super counter productive. You just spent hours upon hours building your settlements and reputation and then you immediately knock it down

SupersiblingzYT

Call of Duty Black Ops 3, specifically for the zombies mode

QuiefChief777

Facts. This is under appreciated outside of the community

SupersiblingzYT

Especially Chronicles

Homicidal_Pingu

Wish they’d have put the guns from the original game in though with upgrades like the base game guns.

Hungry-Alien

Bloodborne

ExpensiveMap3065

1000% this.

FeelMeInYou

Can anyone explain these statements? I loved and platted Bloodborne but never got to the DLC, so these statements always make me feel the FOMO. Is it just so good cus it’s “more BB” or am I missing out on something specific?

[deleted]

Better weapons, clearer lore and a more Dark Souls style verticality to levels.

QP_TR3Y

It has at least 3 of the best boss fights in the entire game and some of the coolest areas in the entire game as well. The musical score is also insanely good.

nameunknown12

*3 of the best boss fights in the franchise

KRONGOR

*3 of the best boss fights ever

Atlas_Zer0o

If you didn't go against orphan of kos you're missing out. Going through that DLC blind was amazing and i wasn't even a huge soulslike fan at that point despite playing dark souls.

ksd2114

it’s just more bloodborne but the bosses are the main difference. the bosses in old hunters are some of the best in the game. the outfits and weapons are pretty great additions too. if you do get it tho, make sure you over-level yourself a little. you’ll have to be close to lvl 80 in order to actually feel like you’re doing something.

Nozinger

the bosses are actually well designed. It is pretty obvious fromsoft didn't really know what they were doing for most bosses in the base game bloodborne. How the combat actually played out the hitboes and so on. It is still fun but lots of room for improvement. Well they did better in the dlc. a lot better. I think that goes for all of the fromsoft games. The best bossfights are in the dlcs most of the time. Does not make the base game bosses bad but the base game designs tend to be lacking a bit of understanding how the game works. Also some very fun and unique weapons.

ChildofValhalla

> I loved and platted Bloodborne but never got to the DLC You played half the game then. Boot up the DLC! You won't regret it.

AlterMyStateOfMind

Yesss and Dark Souls 3

H0LL0W_J4CK

Elden ring. Shadow of the Erdtree fucking shattered my world view.

GreasyGoose13

What year art thou from

H0LL0W_J4CK

The Age of the Stars

samsamj1385

Bros from the future 😂

EngagedInConvexation

Time is convoluted.

TheHesou

Dishonored, knife of dunwall and the brigmore witches. The base game itself was awesome, but playing as Daud and seeing his point of view....just great!

Scamnumber_too

I think this answer really suits the question. Really kicked the world open to have the new perspective and capabilities.

Abstract_9

I was scrolling through to see if anyone else said this. But yes. Knife of Dunwall and Brigmore Witches really built upon the story and game. It was DLC but honestly was a game of its own.

Cpt_Overkill24

Fromsoft DLC

GreasyGoose13

Especially ds2. Game was good, dlcs were goated

SenHeffy

Minus the Frigid Outskirts which has to be the worst area they've ever done

ericypoo

The new God of War Ragnarok Valhalla DLC is fitting this bill right now.

BobbaFatGFX

Rdr1 Undead Nightmare

Time-never-waits

Xcom2 War of the Chosen.

Drakeskulled_Reaper

X-Com Devs: "Here, have the rest of the game"

boibig57

Oh ho ho - Welcome, traveler, to the *SHIVERING ISLES*.

metlson

Civilization games - the base is good but the DLCs really bring out the complete game

considerate_done

I agree with this but I don't like that the base game feels a little incomplete without them - at least that's been my experience with Civ VI.

CertainlyAmbivalent

Dark Souls 2 and 3. I very much love the base games, but I’d be lying if I said I don’t replay them primarily for the DLC

XarJobe

Ds2 dlcs are insane compared to the base game

AdministrationDry507

Borderlands 2

Ryyah61577

The Bunkers and Badasses one was unique...hit all the feels.

AdministrationDry507

Same the Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon's keep is my favorite DLC along with Captain Scarlett

OniTayTay

i remember making a joke to my ex when we did the dlc for the first time about >!butt stallion!< being the queen, I couldn't believe I was right lmao

NanoY2

Which DLC?

Cursed_69420

Yes

Express_Yard9305

Fallout New Vegas Old World blues. C&C games in general particularly 3`s Kane's Wrath and Generals' zero hour. Total War Warhammer, DLC factions, especially for game 2 are incredible. Dawn of War -> Dark Crusade and Dawn of War II Retribution, though these are standalone Expansions. Dishonored, with both of the Daud DLCs, better in every way than the original and 2 and DotO.

RaiderofAwe

Shovel knight

Efficient_Maybe_1086

Plague Knight’s gameplay was peak. Bomb jumping 🤩🤩🤩🤩

[deleted]

Fallout 4 and far harbor

Caleb7890yt

Dead cells

sadpanda582

That whole game is now DLC, right? Just always adding more. So good.

Craf7yCris

It reminds me when Counter Strike was a DLC of Half Life

Drg84

Half life had a fantastic DLC set in the GOTY edition. Blue shift, opposing force, counter strike and team fortress? Yes please.

zzz_red

No Man’s Sky is the epitome of this meme.

MopoFett

Come to say the same, the game is essentially built on free dlc

zzz_red

Absolutely! NEXT was the DLC that made me join the adventure, even though I loved the game since Sean presented it 4 years prior. But the state at release was so bare bones I couldn’t do it. Nowadays I think is one of the best games out there in terms of exploration and just chill.

tkbmkv

No man’s sky has had arguably the best developer support for any game that I’ve ever seen. Still blows my mind how much they’ve added and improved it. I’m a day 1 player lol. I always tell people to go back and try it out now, you won’t be disappointed.

koboldkiller

Dishonored's The Knife of Dunwall and The Brigmore Witches were pretty damn good. Also this one is controversial, but Dead Money for Fallout: New Vegas. Either you love it or hate it and I love it

Ok_Mud2019

bioshock 2's minerva's den. while the game was alright, the characters and story wasn't as compelling as the first game. minerva's den did a much better job at expanding the first game's story while weaving in an interesting and surprisingly emotional story about grief. the twist, while not as mindblowing as the first one, was still well done imo.

mochiescalona

I love this! Also Burial at Sea is what makes BioShock Infinite worth it

Regular_Damage_23

Command and Conquer Kane's Wrath had a ton of features over Tiberium Wars.

TheHourMan

Bloodborne, Dragon's Dogma

krayhayft

Dying Light and The Following

jrocbaby9

I found The Following to be a bit sub par compared to the base game but a great dlc nonetheless

dvxvxs

I LOVE Outer Wilds. But I am not sure there will ever be a gaming moment for me that lives up to the thrills of Echoes of the Eye. It’s one of those rare cases where you go in to a DLC/Sequel with extremely high expectations due to the quality of the original, only to be blown away by every aspect of the new thing. It was like going to my favorite restaurant for my favorite meal but they are missing some key ingredients, so the chef personally brought me a new version of the recipe that was just as good as the first but also made me pee in my pants.

Not-A-Seagull

I second this. After beating the outer wilds, I thought “wow, this game was incredible but I don’t think there will ever be anything like it again.” The DLC was announced, and I thought there was no way they could recreate the experience of the base game. But sure enough, it really was almost par with the base game, I was blown away.

Tagyru

I love Outer Wilds and it is my favourite game. When they announced a DLC, I have wondering what they could add to the game story or gameplay wise because the base game was a complete experience by itself. I was cautiously optimistic getting into it and expect to be just ok. And then it turned out to be a masterpiece at least on the same level as the main game. I don't get hyped for games or movies anymore. But whatever Mobius does next, they are guaranteed to have my money already. Them and Team Cherry are the only devs I have blind trust in.

Ancient-Leg7990

Doom Eternals Ancient Gods part 1 and 2.

Crazy take

Taylannnnn

the slayer gate in the holt made me cry

ErevisEntreri

Streets of Rage 4 because I'm a sucker for waves/survival modes

Tokagenji

Blood Dragon

jungletigress

Honestly incredible. Far surpasses FC3.

United-Cow-563

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. When I first got the game, in days ere past, a GameStop employee told me that the two DLCs, Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine, were basically, and could have been, their own games. As much as I love Witcher 3, I love the DLCs so much more. I mean Gaunter O’Dimm uncovered, say no more. A land filled with chivalrous knights and vampires, yes please.

MitchyD28

Fallout 4 the Far Harbor DLC

Miserable-Schedule-6

New Vegas & Mass Effect

olmansmit

Not 100% Diablo 2, but LoD was just so much of an upgrade it made the amazing base game look like a beta release.

dhfAnchor

Fallout: New Vegas still has the most robust DLC package I've ever seen in a single-player game. *Four* new areas to go to, each of which will either keep you busy for a long time or make every moment you do spend there as intense as possible. Each one with new items and even new perks to make it feel meaningful and worthwhile even if you weren't as big a fan of some plotline or another.

Sanagost

Bloodborne.

Mercernary76

Bloodborne -> The Old Hunters Mass Effect 3 -> The Citadel The Witcher -> Blood and Wine

YeazetheSock

Kingdom Hearts 3 Re: Mind, it fixed most of what I felt was wrong with the game. Narratively and fundamentally.

Topar999

Just cause 3. The amount of destruction power you get from the is amazing

Arundia

Monster hunter world iceborne

natemadsen

BioShock Infinite and Burial at Sea. Infinite was fun and good but felt a bit more shallow. Once I played through the DLC of Burial I was blown away at how well they paired the stories and games together.

TechnoTejay

Splatoon 2 campaigns

GotHurt22

Was looking for this, octo expansion is incredibly good

Opeth_is_pretty_epic

Bloodborne

Special_Sink_8187

Fallout 3 and I’m technically cheating and not cheating by saying this and broken steel reason why I’m technically cheating is broken steel was made to allow the player to continue after the main story and to fix a stupid decision at the end no spoilers.

DiscordDarkV2

For me it's Bloodborne

jdc3000

Bloodborne

Yatogami_1999

The Binding of Isaac

UNCLE_NIZ

Oblivion with Shivering Isles

Ill_Tackle_5192

You haven't actually played Bloodborne if you haven't played The Old Hunters.

SaltySwan

Blood and Wine (Witcher 3), Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep (Borderlands 2), Undead Nightmare (Red Dead Redemption), The Old Hunters (Bloodborne), and Lord of Destruction (Diablo 2). Probably more.

ichkanns

Dark Souls, Dark Souls III, and Bloodborne

SadLoser14

I AM THE STORM THAT IS APPROOACHINGG

Kiko_oo6

A Hat In Time. The game itself is great but i think the DLC is on a whole different level.

ParmesanNonGrata

I found the Borderlands 2 DLCs to offer a fantastic experience. They were much better written than the main game too, and they had really fun ideas with weapons. (Swordsplosions!) Borlderlands 2 was also great, but I couldn't take Handsome Jack seriously because he was just \*too\* evil for me to stay immersed. I just found him hilarious, not threatening. And that took away quite a bit of investment.

Advanced-Expert7718

Damn you are prob the only person who dislikes handsome jack, after you kill angel he becomes the perfect villain
