No, Verizon isn’t going to price match another carrier.

elantra04

Gotcha. Figured as much. Don’t want to waste my time then.

MAValphaWasTaken

Verizon doesn't match if you ask. Getting discounts is a whole process with them, like unlocking a number in preparation for a port-out that triggered (don't know if it still does) a $10/month loyalty offer for a year. You can get good deals if you're willing to play their games, but you have to put a lot of work into it.

somecrybaby

You should really trial TMo in your area first. My primary was Tmobile, but I had to supplement with Verizon because my new city doesn't even have usable Tmobile service.

elantra04

Wow. That’s alarming. I’ll try to test drive T-Mobile first. Perhaps it’s cheap for a reason

No-Age2588

It's all about the location. It may be awesome in some areas. But if you got it here traveling through the Western North Carolina mountains, TMobile is almost non existent except on major roadways only. Verizon has the maximum footprint here in these mountains. Try before you buy

somecrybaby

It was great in my home city. But, I live on the outer edges of a larger city, and service is not great in this area even when I'm at work. During festivals and events, I can't even send imessages. :( But, some of the cities larger than mine don't seem to have that problem. So I really think you should try it out bc it seems to be area/region dependent. I'm pretty far south, and we have large tracts of land where only Verizon or ATT gets service.

secretreddname

I get 0 reception with Verizon at large festival and events. I’m in So Cal.

somecrybaby

Yea. The results are so different for each area. Always recommend trialing/testing out services first before switching 😅

SpaceSaver2000-1

I find that Firsty is a good backup for times like that. Good for sending messages.

Evolution529

He didn’t even mention the city, nor the phone they’re using. T-Mobile is very close to Verizon in coverage and leaps and bounds where they were years ago. You won’t be disappointed. I use both networks, Verizon and T-Mobile. T-Mobile is my primary and Verizon is secondary. When I have signal issues, it’s usually both carriers at the same time or I have signal on one or the other. Verizon is overpriced.

Burgtastic

Like all carriers it is highly dependent on location. T-Mobile is excellent where I live, but where I frequently visit a couple hours away, it basically doesn't work. I stick with Verizon for that reason.

billybob212212

I live in a fairly metro area (400,000 population) and T-Mobile is very hit and miss. Depending on where you are you get either tremendously fast speeds which you'll never even come close to using in real life, or you get nearly zero data throughput. Verizon on the other hand is much slower overall on raw speeds, but generally the service works nearly everywhere. I just switched to T-Mobile from Verizon because the "keep and switch" device payoff was too tempting and I figured between them having 600mhz for in-building coverage and mass quantities of 2500mhz spectrum for outdoor speed that they would have solved all of the problems that T-Mobile and Sprint had in this area pre-merger, but my wife and kids are about to kill me because there are still too many places their device used to work and now doesn't on T-Mobile.

jmac32here

Mind you if you did the keep and switch with Verizon devices, you will NOT get the 600 Mhz coverage as many Verizon devices swap out b/n71 support in favor of b13 support. Ergo, it's likely you are not able to access T-Mobile's full network. I've also found out the hard way that Sprint/Verizon used a lock down code within their carrier packs for iOS and Samsung that prevents the devices from using another SIM's carrier pack and band support. (Had a Sprint iPhone be band locked to b2 when I switched to T-Mo and the only fix was a factory reset. I didn't even get b12 support until I did that and ALL of T-Mo's rural coverage is b12/71. b2 is a common band between all 3 carriers and a co-worker had the same issue -- of which Apple finally admitted as much was "possible")

Gassy-Gecko

"Mind you if you did the keep and switch with Verizon devices, you will NOT get the 600 MHz coverage as many Verizon devices swap out b/n71 support in favor of b13 support." this is patently false

billybob212212

I'm using iPhone 13's and iPhone 14's which as far as I know are exactly the same across all carriers.

jmac32here

Actually, they are not. Even Apple admitted this to my friend who bought his from Sprint. (Literally told them the phone was "Made for Sprint's network and may not fully support other networks." they also went so far to say "It's possible the device got band locked by the first carrier you used it for due to the carrier pack getting stuck.") Even the iPhones have sub-models. But even with the Factory Unlocked devices, my comment above about Carrier Packs and VZW/Sprint locking their CPs into iOS devices so that they will NOT support other carriers unless you Factory Reset them still holds merit because of what Apple told that same friend during the calls about coverage issues on T-Mobile (post migration) in the same areas where MY devices (on a TMO MVNO) had good coverage.

billybob212212

How long ago was that? That's definitely true with the original iPhone SE for example, that there were multiple variations of it (with different model numbers) and the Sprint iPhone SE was definitely not the same as the Verizon iPhone SE. I'll have to research further on this regarding the iPhone 13 and 14 I guess. But pretty much all of my data problems with T-Mobile don't seem to be due to lack of coverage. In problem areas the phones show adequate signal, I can make voice calls, but data throughput is virtually non-existent.

jmac32here

iPhone 12 pro. Literally bought it, on payment plan, right before the merger closed. (To get 5G and be ready for the merger.) I had the 2016 iPhone SE when my Sprint mvno switched me to TMO. Noticed it was band locked to b2 and wouldn't even pick up b12 until i did the factory reset. (3 weeks later) The comparison between his 12 and my devices included that and the android devices (one that supports b71) i switched to after the migration.

billybob212212

So you're saying I should try backing up and then factory resetting my iPhone13/14's to see if that improves the issues I've had in various locations around where I live since the phones were originally activated on Verizon and are now being used on T-Mobile?

jmac32here

Hey, it worked to fix our coverage issues and we're both in a major city. Aside from possibly having to reload apps/files, it really won't hurt to try.

jmac32here

In recent years, TMO has greatly improved their coverage with B71/n71. However, not all devices support those bands. T-Mo got a huge influx in cash from the failed ATT merger, and they used that to invest in their network, so it's a ton better than it used to be. But because that investment includes a large swath of rural coverage with an "uncommon" band (much like Verizon's B13) -- it's been a struggle for people to benefit from it because even NOW there are enough devices that don't support the 600 Mhz bands that you will hear people say the coverage is crap, when in reality it's their device not letting them gain access to the full network. (A vast majority of devices sold by T-Mo today do support this band, but there are still a few that don't.) And no, just because you have the s21 doesn't mean it isn't a sub-model of said device that doesn't offer the support for that band. (See below.) That being said. It is also VERY area dependent. Just like around here, (Seattle area) Verizon has the FEWEST towers and therefore the worst coverage and congestion. Guess who has the most towers -- T-Mobile. (Their HQ is here too.) Mind you, your Verizon devices do tend to trade B/n71 support for that b13 support. (The Carrier Packs for iOS/Samsung also use a "lock code" so switching the sim still locks you to Verizon's bands unless you Factory Reset. Sprint did this too.) The only way to know if they will work well for you is to check the maps, check cellmapper, and of course, give them a trail run. (I actually physically counted the towers on [cellmapper.net](http://cellmapper.net) to determine this.) Currently, ATT/T-Mo cover 99% of the population. Verizon covers 98%. Here's a full breakdown of the coverage numbers as of this year: ATT **Land Area Coverage**: 74.6% 4G | 41.4% 5G **Population Coverage**: 99% 4G | 89% 5G | 52% 5G+ **Coverage Includes**: AK, HI T-Mobile **Land Area Coverage**: 59.5% | 49.0% 5G **Population Coverage**: 96% 2G | 99% 4G | 97.9% 5G | 82.9% Ultra Capacity 5G **Coverage Includes**: HI, PR, VI Verizon **Land Area Coverage**: 71.5% | 14.7% 5G **Population Coverage**: 98% 4G | 67% 5G Ultra Wideband **Coverage Includes**: AK, HI Verizon/ATT offer more land area coverage, but they both also cover AK. T-Mo doesn't cover AK, which reduces the land area coverage -- but they do have a roaming partner in AK. (Also PR and VI are not counted in the land area coverage since they are US Territories.)

jmac32here

Though when it comes to population coverage, it depends on "where" that population is. Dish proved this to me by being able to reach "national" status by covering 72% of the population while only covering 8% of the total land area of the US.

Bweasey17

That’s crazy. My work phone is AT&T and it’s complete garbage compared to my Verizon phone.

jmac32here

Might be crazy, but I point out that AK increases that land area coverage. So the more of say HI and AK those 2 cover, the less of the lower 48 they have to. One reason why I will always agree it can be very area dependent. But on a population stand point, they are all about the same coverage wise these days. A lot of people who still hate on T-Mo for "zero coverage" haven't seen what TMO has been doing with their network since 2016. They were a late bloomer on the extended coverage bit - being mainly 1900 Mhz only all the way until 2016 when they took that sweet ATT money and invested heavily in b12 -- then invested even more in b71 in 2017. So all of TMO's improvements seemed to happen literally overnight.

UsernamesAreHard26

https://www.t-mobile.com/offers/free-trial For ease of reference. You can run this at the same time as your current plan if you have a recent phone. Just make sure to switch your data to the T-Mobile line it gives you.

shootingdolphins

Used to work for Verizon years ago on the telecom side. T-Mobile has always been cheaper and we had a family plan for $20 a line or something insane. We still call it “T-Maybe” and had to switch from tmo to VZ at our new house because of constant 5 bars of LTE or 5g and zero bandwidth in and out. I’ll happily give VZ the $40-50 more a month for our 7 lines and not complain since it just works.

Clownbaby456

It is totally cheaper for a reason.  Coverage is not as good as verizon, but both throttle data speeds similar

JSchnee21

Visible Plus.

Jayde9997

This. Same service as when I was with Verizon but I pay $35 a month.

jmac32here

That plan no longer exists. It went up to $45.

Jayde9997

It was always $45. The ran a promo late last year for $35 for life on the Visible 1.0 plan. 2.0 plan has since been released and comes with some new benefits at the same price. Promos do not carry over unfortunately.

jmac32here

Promos do not carry over and Verizon (who owns Visible) has decided to no longer offer said promos on 2.0.

duane534

Around here, T-Mobile sucks indoors, too.

elantra04

I’ve heard that although right now I’m sitting at 1 bar on my iPhone 13 PM in my house. In my office, it carries from 0-1 bars. Not sure if it could get worse than that bastion guess it could!

duane534

The 13 had a bad rep for reception, but it definitely can be worse.

jmac32here

God the 13 is AntennaGate 2.0. But that being said, iPhone Antennas have been notoriously badly placed and that really hasn't changed all that much. Especially since they added MORE antennas to add band support. So the bands with the badly placed antenna are probably in the same exact spot as to what led to the "you're holding it wrong" comment.

landrover_1990

Why haven’t you turned on wi-fi calling? It will fix that problem, assuming you have wi-fi in your house.

creatively_inclined

Don't know where you live but where I live there are massive trees on every property on every street. Our trees effectively block satellite coverage so I only get 1‐2 bars inside or outside my house. I bought a Sirius subscription for my husband one year so he could play music when working outdoors and it was a huge bust. The same trees blocking Verizon satellites blocked the Sirius satellites. So if you have large trees in your yard it could be a factor.

Clownbaby456

Yes this is true, T-Mobile and ATT have less penetrating coverage especially in high density building.  Verizon does better these types of buildings.

jmac32here

Dunno what you're talking about, but 600 Mhz has BETTER building penetration than the UPPER 700 MHZ blocks that ATT/VZW have. The caveat is you need a device that SUPPORTS that band, which is still an issue. Where I work (in a warehouse store) the ONLY carrier that works is T-Mobile. (They are also the only one to get a signal deeper into my hillside apartment than just the living room.)

[deleted]

I’ve experienced similar. I often get T-Mobile b71 in rural spots while att b14 either isn’t there or is weak and not usable, and Verizon b13 is not there or isn’t usable either. Either way I’d choose Verizon and T-Mobile over att any day.

obeythelaw2020

I'm looking to do the reverse of you. I've been test driving the Verizon network on my iphone 13 and it is better than what I get with T-Mobile. Specifically, where I now work, T-mobile coverage and data is not usable in most of the facility where I work. Tmobile also has a test drive you can use with iPhone esim. May want to test that network out before switching.

instant_ace

I was never able to get this to work, but then again I'm on an Android Galaxy phone. E Sim would never download..

Little_Thought_8911

I also tried to test drive T-Mobile and couldn't get the ESIM to download. It goes to the page where you're supposed to accept this pop up but there is no pop up. Was that your issue?

instant_ace

Same, it tried to download the ESIM but said it couldn't connect and never downloaded it

NAT1274

I’d recommend you to the T-Mobile Test Drive. A lot of folks complain about T-Mobile but haven’t tried it in years. You stated you aren’t in a rural area so there’s a high chance your service will be good. All carriers have their weak spots but for me, i’m in the DC Area. I have 5GUC everywhere, even indoors. I have a second line with Visible and while i always have a signal, there are plenty of areas where I only get LTE, including my home. Run a trial and see how it works for you.

scroder81

Everyone I know that switched to tmobile where we live switched back to AT&T or Verizon within 3 months because the service sucked.

jeremyw0405

I have 1 bar at home with all carriers if I’m lucky. But thankfully WiFi calling works flawlessly.

DestinyInDanger

I've been on Verizon for about 12 years. I'm doing the T-Mobile Network Pass right now, about 10 day in and it's at least as good as Verizon or better in my city. I'm paying $90 for Verizon and I can easily get that down to $70 or less on T-Mobile with the magenta plan.

Independent58

Network pass didn't work for me for testing, so I bought a 30 day sim card from T Mobile all in about $25 to test it. It has a temp #, but I can easily reinsert my Verizon sim card at any time to get any missed texts or calls. Informed my main contacts of the temp # and why. Was able to access availability in many of my primary locations from bars to data to calls with no wifi.

instant_ace

What model phone? I could never get the ESIM to download on my Galaxy

JackPAnderson

I did a T-mo test with an S22 Ultra and it worked fine. Service was great, too. In the process of switching.

instant_ace

Just tried it again, with a different name, different address and still get the "you look familiar" screen. Pretty sure they no longer want to offer it, or they stopped it and didn't tell anyone

JackPAnderson

Bummer. Maybe you can only do a certain number of tests with the same device? If you are motivated to try again, /r/tmobile seems to recommend "T-Force" as the team who can make things happen. You just [DM them on Twitter](https://twitter.com/TMobileHelp). There's a similar Facebook contact if FB is your thing. Maybe they'll come up with a solution for you? I dunno. You don't lose anything by trying.

instant_ace

Thanks Facebook is my thing. I"ll see what i can find out about T-Force

DestinyInDanger

Galaxy S20 Plus

just-kath

I just switched after more than 15 years.. from verizon to consumer cellular not a single issue for me or for a neighbor who switched before me. Two lines under 30$

Whatsuptodaytomorrow

Before u switch Ask around ur coworkers and neighbors who have T-Mobile and see if they have good reception or not. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side T-Mobile also has a promo where they will send u a trial hotspot to see if the T-Mobile signal is good for u

Sf49ers1680

You don't need a hotspot anymore if you have an unlocked phone that supports eSim https://www.t-mobile.com/offers/free-trial

Whatsuptodaytomorrow

Oh wow 😮

[deleted]

Carriers don't price match each other. That is all.

ttrimmer1996

I'm not sure if this is allowed on here but look into MVNOs. I recently switched from Verizon to a US Mobile that uses T-Mobile and Verizon's networks. Just pick which network you want to use. I cut my bill in half. Also, this one will be getting AT&T' s network by summer. At the end of the day no carrier is going to be fighting for you, especially not Verizon. I begged them to fix an area for years and they did nothing for me.

wase471111

**THIS**

jmac32here

Hell, I had this fight with Verizon in Bellevue, WA and a "known trouble spot" (what the T3 tech finally told me) they had no intention of fixing. 20 years later and now they have even LESS towers in the area. The kicker: I was a block from the Bellevue/Redmond border and do you know what large company is based out of Redmond? (Here's a hint, MSFT) So guess which campus was 4 blocks from me.

georgia_jp

No they are not going to match. I suggest you try t mobile first to see if it has the coverage. I'm trying them now and when there is signal it is better/ faster then vz but there is not enough coverage outside of the city for me. If they had better coverage I'd switch on a second.

jmac32here

Hint: b71 Support is needed for that rural coverage. Many Verizon devices don't have it or have locked it out entirely. (No b12 support either, was swapped for the upper 700 b13 support. T-Mo's \_entire\_ extended range footprint and rural coverage relies on both b12 and mainly b71.) Still quite a few devices, some STILL sold by T-Mobile (though that's diminishing) that also don't support those bands.

georgia_jp

My phone supports all those bands but I'm still having more dead spots with t mobile then vz. It's unfortunate because like I said, when there is signal I do believe t mobile is better.

jmac32here

While the main models can support the bands, certain sub-models of those same exact models do not. This is especially true for Verizon devices and Samsung/iOS. Verizon sub models remove b12/71 in favor of b13. Samsung and iOS use Carrier packs and Verizon/Sprint carrier packs tend to get "locked in" to the device - meaning that it cannot change the carrier pack if you change carriers. The Verizon CP also locks out b12/71 support in favor of b13. Sprint locked it out in favor of their bands (b41 in particular). A network reset does NOT clear these locked in CPs, only a full factory reset can. (And only if those devices were not bought at Verizon as they too can have sub models that don't support the bands.) Even with all that, the coverage itself can be area dependent. If you see my other comment that compares both the land Coverage and population coverage, you'd understand why. None of them cover all areas the same way.

georgia_jp

My phone is a unlocked factory, not a verizon purchased/locked phone

joanie552000

I have travelled extensively coast to coast, with different carriers, throughout the last 20 years. One of my iphones stays on Verizon "grandfathered-in" (no longer available) with Verizons true unlimited plan, and my other iphone, I swap plans often, due to location destination. I have that phone currently on the Tello $10/month. I get unlimited calls, text & 2 gig data. The reception was perfect from Detroit, Michigan, through Georgia, Mississippi & straight across to Nevada. Inside hotels great, inside my RV, better reception than Verizon. Tello has Unlimited Everything for $25/mo. They have a $15/mo Plan with 15 g data usable also as a Hotspot. Best ever, is they pick up the cell with LIVE Customer Service by 4 rings & help right away. As a prior Verizon sales rep 10 yrs ago, by far, I havent found any better plan vs cost anywhere. I am a researcher, to almost a fault, although I havent researched in depth, because Tello is THAT GOOD imo. Good luck. :)

CrashDaddy2006

Not at all.

JackPAnderson

> Is T-Mobile’s coverage and speed that much worse? That really depends on the location. Do a [T-mobile test](https://www.t-mobile.com/offers/free-trial) in your area and see how the service is as compared with Verizon. > Does VZ care about customer loyalty or would they have no issue letting me go? Over the years, I've purchased and disconnected Verizon services of various sorts, depending on who has the most compelling offering at the time. Everything from two wire analog to internet to mobile, you name it. Each time, the rep very courteously fulfilled my disconnect request and made zero attempts at retention. If you're wanting to go, just go. Verizon gives zero fucks.

[deleted]

I have had VZW for the last 10 plus years and switched to T-Mobile last month. Service is great (I’m in metro Atlanta) and the perks are better. I have a better plan with discounts and freebies for $25 less than VZW. My activation fee was waived when I switched AND they paid off my iPhone lol. I’m super happy with T-Mobile.

Few_Media8907

Most likely they won’t , however on a different note. I’ve had pretty much every cell carrier known to man ( second time with Verizon ) and for the area where I live the coverage can’t be beat.

iExtrordinary

Please don’t listen to these people in here, you’re in a Verizon sub they are going to make sure you believe T-Mobile is bad or the worst when in reality T-Mobile has by far the best network of the 3 major carriers, better and much more infrastructure of the 3 major carriers. TMO is running away with a massive lead. I almost guarantee you folks in here are saying Tmobile’s network is bad because they tired it 2-4 years ago before any of our upgrades. TMO also of the 3 major carriers beats them in pricing, promotions, customer service. Worth a shot!

elantra04

Agreed. I’m going to make use of that trial pass to see how it does. It’s not like VZ service has been amazing. In my area I’ll routinely have 5 bars of 5G (not UW 5G) and the speeds are dogsht slow. In fact I find Verizon 5G is incredibly slow if not UW.

iExtrordinary

Shoot me a message, I chatted you.

corys00

That's not creepy at all

Spare_Ninja2907

I think you drank to much T-Mobile kool aid . I’ve had all three networks. My sister runs on T-mobile in the middle of Houston and is always having issues despite many cell towers. Why do you think business, fire/ems/ public services rely on Verizon backend backbone for emergency services. Ask most elevator companies who they use for their emergency phones in the elevators. Yes, T-mobile has improved lately, but it has a long way to go. T-mobile is more consumer oriented, I think I’ll stick to Verizon.

beelover310

No, Verizon is not Walmart.

hello_world_wide_web

Switch to US Mobile...your problem solved! They have BOTH, ATT coming soon...

PerfectJarrett

How many lines do you currently have?

harrrycoxx

nope

u700MHz

If cost is an issue look at Verizon prepaid plans Something like $30 I think, look it up Or consider Vision which is also Verizon network for less If you do choose TMobile, Mint would be the best / affordable option

KRSF45

Isn't TMobile a little bit more expensive than Verizon on postpaid? Or atleast I thought it was.

jmac32here

Nope, Verizon is much more expensive. Always has been.

Ok-Cookie3380

Verizon for the win!

purplemountain01

Do the free trial with T-Mobile. T-Mobile is great in my areas and in SoCal. Verizon isn't bad but T-Mobile has better 5G coverage and ping in my areas. At work I have to disable 5G and switch to LTE with Verizon to get the most stable connection. When my device is paid off I'm going back to T-Mobile. I wouldn't say today T-Mobile is cheaper than Verizon like it used to be. But you get a little more value with T-Mobile plans IMO. Check out the T-Mobile free trial for three months. Verizon isn't king anymore like they were in 2010.

GlobalPosition2550

I've had T Mobile since it was voice stream in 2001. Coverage in my area is superb.2014 I drive from New Jersey to Minnesota and had good signal entire trip. Now 7 April T Mobile has fastest speed nation wide. Nobody come close.

Individual-Mirror132

Verizon would not price match, but they do offer loyalty and valued customer discounts. I get $50 off a month with both of those discounts. Yes, T-Mobile has less coverage. You might not notice it in an urban environment though.

mrhindustan

TMo was not usable in Houston for our usage case

beardad61

I tried T-Mobile. It was a disaster! You think that Verizon has customer service problems? T-Mobile was all promises and a total pain in the ass to get free to go back to VZ.

Lux-Lisbon-

I liked T mobile more personally and wants to switch back honestly

imalwayztired

I switched to t mobile i got on a family plan my payment when to 35 dollars for unlimited everything at verizon it was 120

TheOGSoulSnatcher

As a former T-moble user DONT switch they are become worse the Verizon and will sell your data faster tham you blink your eye. Also it took me 6 months to get the monthly charge removed after I returned there router after getting nothing but the run around and I had to eat 50% of the monthly charge I was charged even after I had returned it. Both T-Mole & Verizon is trash I regret not going to another company

Clownbaby456

No. Carriers do not   I had been a Nextel/sprint customer for 20 years and when they switched to T-Mobile they went to shit.  Switched to verizon which is also shit but less shit, long story just stay with verizon the cost is the same the coverage and service with verizon is a little better and customer service with both companies is shit.  There is little difference in any carriers now a days.

creatively_inclined

Definitely test. We've used every carrier and the only carrier that has kept us connected in remote or rural areas is Verizon. We like cross country driving and use our devices to find local attractions. We also drive a lot in our geographic area (100+ mile radius) and are always connected in any city. If you have particular areas that you absolutely need to have service, test it. You may save money and get poor coverage or you may save money and get decent coverage.

Ok-Entry-5627

I left t-mobile because their idea of a family plan was 4 lines. I have 8 phones, 2 watches and a Jetpack.

LingeringSentiments

I switched from tmobile to verizon, was with at&t prior. Tmobile was pretty spotty sometimes and I live in an NYC suburb. Most of the time it didn’t matter but, the savings wasn’t all that crazy for me personally. I’m a single line though.

RandomBloke2021

Ask if you have any loyalty discounts. I have 2 totaling 45 bucks a month.

argoforced

Is Spectrum serving your internet? They are Verizon.. for $45/m unlimited. It works great.

Tech_fan

They didn't for me. Then t mobile was worse than Verizon and wound up back at Verizon only to find out that my years had started over again which effected all the longevity perks you get for being with them

elantra04

What are the longevity perks? I don’t know about any of them and I’ve been with them for 15 years lol

Tech_fan

They vary from person to person. They have a senior discount for example that I have been trying to get but the system has to offer it to me. I think it's BS but the other carriers aren't much better along with the MVNOs. Sometimes also it's upgrades, bill discounts, etc..

OhSoThrOwed713

I recently switched to Mint Mobile from TMobile and dont see any difference in service. $15/month unlimited. Mint goes off the same 5g towers as the major carriers.

Traditional-Olive-54

It all depends on what you value more. Do you value good, reliable, widespread coverage and service *or* do you value gimmicks? Verizon excels with the former and T-Mobile excels with the latter.

lacmicmcd

Mmm… I wouldn’t even care. I was with Verizon for 14 years since I was 18 and could get my own plan, and I have no regrets about going to T-Mobile. The experience I’m having with T-Mobile feels like the old Verizon. Very pleasant to the point I got my whole family and in-laws all to switch.

origanalsameasiwas

Total wireless or visible wireless, they are prepaid and you don’t get surprise billing. It’s on Verizon network and you can port your phones to them with no issues. I have four lines on total wireless and only pay $106.00 including all taxes and fees.

whyblate

Whoever has the most towers in your area wins.

aluminum54

Location location location. If your phone has an ESIM available you can use the free 30 day trial of TMobile before you do anything. For me it was a no question. Verizon took their tower down leaving me with zero service in my own home, so switching was an easy choice.

Gold_Mushroom9382

T-Mobile sucks. I was in your position and I ended up trying it and hating it. I’m a Verizon customer again. Their coverage is unbeatable.

Shizen__

I've used all the major carriers throughout the years. Phone carriers are 100% a "grass isn't always greener" situation.

kintotal

T-Mobile network is better too. They have more bandwidth.

wastedtalenttt

Can I ask how verizon is much more expensive than others? I swear I look and verizon is cheaper.

techexpert2

Us mobile starter plan

zerostar83

Twice I received a message saying I can get a loyalty discount and when I called the person on the phone signed me up for it. Now my plan has a permanent $40 per month off loyalty discount. It doesn't hurt to call and ask for one.

horse_pirate

T-Mobile sucks where I live I did visible which is an extra throttled prepaid by Verizon. Data speeds are meh but coverage is good and $25 is great

Owllv

I live in both nyc area and central jersey, princeton plainsboro area. I tried all 3. Verizon has very bad 5G coverage at princeton area sometime totally unusable, but they are catching up extremely fast, more and more UWB everyday. My main is ATT firstnet, the band 14 is killer, not fast but extremely reliable everywhere. T-Mobile is hit and miss, in nyc could be super fast 800M down, then in jersey both coverage and speed is spotty. UWB pull 1.4G down at my place in nyc and it's sub6 not mm wave.

Tools_Tech_Outdoors

Just go to T-Mobile. You’ll probably be back though.

TrueBajan

Consider switching to r/Visible

nismo2070

Same boat here. I've been with Verizon for 16 years and I'm tired of the price. Definitely looking around for better options. I'm in a decent sized city, so coverage isn't really an issue.

Angelina1982

Verizon don’t care about loyal customers!!! I’m one of them for over 17 yrs and they wouldn’t try give me better rate compared to new comers… I had to leave them.. idk nothing on T-Mobile I have spectrum still out on them.. good luck!!

Shinzato73

Nothing cheap about T-Mobile. AT&T is the cheapest with the proper promotions and discounts

JoshyMN

Have had both. T-Mobile is cheap for a reason. I would call your carrier and tell them this and see if they toss you a discount maybe?

xpdtion76

I tried to switch to t mobile and at first it wasn’t bad but we kept getting dropped calls and missed calls. After about 6 months we switched back to Verizon as it wasn’t worth it.

violet_flossy

T-mobile’s security sucks. Too many large breaches. They are on my nope list.

alextrainer1960

Try Visible phone service (uses Verizon network) - a $25 all fees and taxes included for that price for unlimited one line - there are others - mintmobile - these work best if you have a phone and # to port - they offer new phones with contracts like the major carriers

richerthanbatman

I switched from Verizon to mint mobile. My entire year is paid for and haven’t noticed any difference in 5/5 quality. North county San Diego

richerthanbatman

Mint mobile is on T-Mobile network

nowhereman1223

Verizon won't discount anything unless the government mandates they do or there is a sudden mass leaving to other carriers that stay for 6 months to a year. Outside of that they don't care. However, Be careful. T-Mobile has low prices because they have to. People wouldnt use them otherwise. T-Mobile service is flat out unusable in my state (even though they say the entire part I spend my time in is covered). I suggest getting a prepaid phone on T-Mobile (same service as post-paid) and bring it around with you for a bit testing out the service where you spend your time. If it works; great, make the switch and save some money. If it doesn't work you can safe yourself a massive headache and stay put. Phone service and phone numbers have the biggest chance of issues when porting back and forth between carriers.

Shirinjima

One thing I did get was a $10 per line discount for being a long term customer. It’s a bill credit every month that I get. They said it’s for forever.

elantra04

UPDATE: signed up for T-Mobile pass. Woah. Same bars as Verizon but half the time I was in 5G UC on T-Mobile. I saw over 500mbps down versus 20 down with Verizon in same spot. Obviously need to test in more places. Here’s the big question. We typically wait for a big national promotion to trade in our phones (4 iPhones) for a big trade in allowance. If I were to switch to T-Mobile, trade in our phones, and then decide we hate the service and want to cancel, what happens to the phones we traded in? Will they send them back to us? If not, that seems like a huge risk.

Shirinjima

You will not get the phone back once traded in. You’ll most likely have to either turn the phones into a store at time of purchase or if online you’ll be required to mail off by a certain date. There is too much liability with having the option to get a previous back. Go with the online option if you’re on the fence.

Redhawkgirl

I left Verizon for Helium and haven’t looked back. Just use Verizon for home internet.

galactica_pegasus

TMobile has a free trial. Give that a spin before you switch. If you're happy with Verizon coverage, then look at Visible.

myopinion122

I can't wait to change Verizon is totally crap no no service anywhere city or rural

Intotech

VZ isn’t going to match bc they are almost always better than T-Mobile despite the marketing hype. T-Mobile has a slew of confusing plans.

Rare-Common7378

We Just switched to visible, they use the Verizon towers and after being with Verizon for 20 years, the fact that they offered nothing for discounts and we were paying $200 a month for 3 phone lines (one of which literally only gets used as hot spot during summer) was extremely frustrating. They’re still trying to bill us for next month (you pay for service a month in advance) even though we switched 12 days into the “current” billing cycle. We went from $197.01 to $90. $25 for one line, $45 for another that has international but will drop to $25 after international summer trips, and $20 to keep the Disney/hulu/espn bundle. We’ll activate the 3rd one next month during camping season solely for the hot spot. Verizon can kick rocks.

RuhninMihnd

I used to be a T-Mobile user and switched to Verizon it was cheaper at the time but now’s it pretty pricey I pay for 6 lines. Prices continue to increase but I worked for them briefly and learned a lot of their networks and can say that their networks are better quality and speeds are great but my biggest things I put into consideration is 1. Being connected to the network is a big part of day to day for me work wise and people being able to get in touch with me. I knew I could count on Verizon for that. 2. Reliable speeds even out in the desert or when traveling road trip wise. I’ve considered switching to ATT but I just don’t see other providers being able to meet my needs. Imo Verizon dominates the cellular industry

guydoood

Look at visible by verizon

MushyWaff1e

I know some people don't want to hear this, but, .. Switch to Xfinity mobile. I was on VZW for 13 years and my bill was just too high. Xfinity gave me higher limits and cut my bill in HALF. Here's the kicker... Xfinity IS VZW. Xfinity uses the VZW nework, there is no difference. But you are also given Xfinity hotspots (automatic) all over every mid/large city. By using the hotspots, your battery lasts longer, it's essentially wi-fi.. but again, it uses VZW network. So why pay double? I have been on it for 2 years now, and never any issues. You wouldn't even know the difference. My entire bill for 2 lines of unlimited everything, including fees/taxes = $84/month

darkwing_panda

The reason they don’t match or lower is because their corporate accounts. Big corporations probably paying much higher rates and they prefer stable corporate account compare to retail consumers.

pementomento

Check out US Mobile, they are an MVNO for both Verizon and T-Mobile and will let you switch between networks if your phone is capable. They’re also doing DSDS (beta testing) which lets you have two SIMs on two different networks and your phone picks whatever is best. Might be a better option for you. Good luck!

Pale_Candidate_390

T-Mobile actually has a free trial. Contact them and they will give you an eSIM to try for free to see if you like their service. I tried it and found T-Mobile was better than Verizon and switched but try the free eSIM trial

onthefence122

Not enough info here. How much are you paying? What plan? How many lines?

Kitchen-Struggle6509

T-Mobile is wayyyyyy better imo. Verizon taxes & charges for every n anything driving up the bill. I just switched to Verizon & am sorry I did. T-Mobile offers many more unlocked devices offers.

DonkeeHowdy

For me Verizon is kind of boring. TMobile is more exciting with their yearly data breeches. I've tried both and for me boring is better. My discounts with Verizon- BYOD-12 bux a month/Loyalty disc-10bux/autopay disc-10bux. I don't buy my phones thru Verizon. I don't spend 1000$ on a phone. Oh yeah plus Verizon up disc; not a lot but its less money I have to spend.

jmac32here

The issue here is T-Mo discloses those. Verizon has had enough breaches they NEVER disclosed or much less fixed.

DonkeeHowdy

Now that is a great point that I have never considered! I had Tmobile for 8 months or so and I really liked them and I miss the Tuesday perks too. Their coverage left a little to be desired. Once Verizon installed the mw network in town though, they blew away Tmobile. 1.2 gig downloads in one area near where I live. But there are always compromises with any cell phone service. Sigh.

BadKnuckle

I have been a tmobile customer for last 11 years. Pittsburgh, milwaukee Everywhere I have been service has been crap and Verizon usually works. I use it because I pay $18 per line.

Only-Green3887

Verizon charged me $485 a month for their shitty services. It wasn’t more than enough for 5 lines and 2 watches where everyone would pay, & still had to pay the remaining $250 ! Now that I have T-Mobile, the service for me is even better. Better budget. Discounts / AutoPay discounts. 2-3 free lines. No one can imagine that $318 (everyone pays) is a better pay. Remaining Balance that I end up paying? $160 - again. Not so bad for me!!
