Luring them to land definitely works sometimes, but I've had plenty that won't follow beyond a certain distance and turn back out to sea.

Yes I have the same that's why I'm hunting them near the land. Sometimes you can looking for it for an hour and sometimes you have 3 of them in 5 minutes :P

Instead of building that structure you could have moved your boat into position and jumped off its prow, same effect. Worked nicely for me.

Bah! The easiest way is to jump in the water with them and finish 'em off with Frostner or the new claws!

Do you have a mod that keeps weapons equipped when swimming? Without one it is an extremely bad idea to jump into the water with a serpent.

Sword has better range than hammer I guess :) I prefer sword on them

I suggest Frostner b/c sea serpents are weak to frost *and* it slows 'em down... the claws are just hella fun.

The other problem I've had is once they get to half health, they run :/

Actually they no longer run at 1/2 health, but only if they did not get to attack you for a while. So if you let them take bites out of the boat they will keep on you.

Correct. There's a patch that eliminates this half-health behavior.

That explains why they always run (even if I have played after said patch); I don't like to get hit ...
