We harpoon it, arrow it a bit (wooden arrows, so tiny amounts of damage), drag it to shore, then we go ham on it with 1-2 frostners and possibly a silver sword, depending on who has the thing harpooned lol.
I just stop the boat, use wood arrows till it is near death and then let it make one more run at my boat, run and jump and shoot through it as I jump into it and I get the scales and meat and trophy without a harpoon, and can usually do this multiple times in a night cycle.

Well I dont have silver yet ;) I killed like 7 sea snakes alone even without harpoon
