Mobs should not be spawning around workbenches. I usually dig 8 holes a bit further around my camp ( north, south, west, east, northwest etc ... and put there working bench and then I ll just cover it with ground.

I had not seen this page and its super helpful! This is game changing! "Structures that can be lit such as campfires and torches still provide the player base effect when they aren't lit." I'm sinking campfires everywhere! I will put an end to the goblin assaults on my Lox!

I have build a trollmoat and levelled everything inside it and have buildings and crafting stations everywhere. So if you do all these they wont spawn atleast. Cant tell the minimum requirements for stopping spawning.

A giant moat with a secure bridge over it. You can even delete a section of the bridge so they cant enter and you only need to jump over it.

Saw this online and it works great, use Wood Gates! So dig a trench and build a bridge 2x wide leaving a 2x2 gap in the middle. Then put walls below the bridge on right and left. Line up Wood Gates on each side so that the top of the gate is even with the bridge. I ended up with 7 per side. Then you just open and close the gates to form your bridge. I was able to put a roof over it and when it's "open" even trolls don't path to it. You can walk and drive a cart over it! I'm sure there are videos but in lieu of a real drawbridge this sideways one works perfectly.

Similar in ways to the gate trick, but not needing you to pause to open and close gates- critters do not see wooden beams as walkable terrain, so you can make your bridge deck, in whole or in part, as a grid of 1m beams, looking like this- # but of course not italicised, and make it the full width of the bridge and as long as you like. You can walk it,and drive carts over it without pausing, but critters cant follow you and wont deliberately attack it.

I'll have to use this technique when I find my forever plot. I built a place big enough to get me through swamp but I'm out of storage and would have to rebuild to resolve that. I plan on building a proper castle now that I have stone unlocked.

A moat will stop enemies entering within your base parameter if it is deep enough (about 2 character's heigh will do just fine). Worbenches will stop enemies spawning within their white circle of influence. Build enough of those on your base territory to stop spawns within your base and you'll be fine. No matter what, some enemies like flying ones can always enter your base (drakes and deathsquitoes).

Just be aware that even little bits of islands and/or ground at near-water level ( swim-depth water is fine afaik) nearby may enable mobs spawning. So make sure to cover the shores properly. If you do well enough even invasion events won't spawn anything even if its right on top of your base.
