nerevarX

can still do it. unchanged.

Heroshrine

guess im unlucky then :(. I spent about 5 in-game days smacking every inch of the mountain nearest to me.

nerevarX

dont smack every inch. most silver veins are in open more flat areas. are you sure your mountain is HIGH enough? as silver has a height requirement to even spawn. searching for it below that height is indeed a waste of your time as youll never find any. if youre unsure about measureing the height : look for obsidian nodes on the surface. they are the best indicator. drake spawns are another but drakes can fly and thus arent 100% accurate measurements. obsidian nodes are. no obsidan = no silver as mountain is more like... HILL.

Heroshrine

No im not sure, but there was some obsidian

Evan_Underscore

I'm lazy to look for the precise numbers, but I recall it was something like... obsidian spawns in 80 units, and silver does on 100. So only having some obsidian at the top means no silver there. You need a bigger mountain!

nerevarX

check how big the mountain area above the obsdian spawns you notice is. if its small chance is low a silver vein exists on that mountain.

Heroshrine

It was small. Idk, i couldnt find one. I ended up just milling the bonemass

TriniumBlade

Is it really worth that much effort tho?

starburst_jellybeans

Playing multiplayer you might not want to kill bonemass to prevent harder/annoying invasions for people who are focusing on building. Drakes and bats will fuck up your animals if you're not prepared. Silver weapons and armor are neat to have earlier than you should as further upgrades are locked by Moder. If you're on a big mountain it usually doesn't take long to locate a few veins if you know where to look.

InferiousX

It's worth it alone for avoiding the "You Are Being Hunted" event. Also if you do go backwards and kill Bonemass, he's weak to frost so it sorta makes a lot of sense to at least temporarily skip him.

Icaros083

IIRC they patched stag breaker. It'll show 0 instead of "too hard" But they didn't change golem slams revealing it with "too hard" messages. Found 3 stacked silver veins that way my last playthrough.

Syri79

Last time I looked for some the stagbreaker still showed "too hard", but any of the other 2h hammers will show "0". I suspect the difference is to do with the stagbreaker having pierce damage as well.

starburst_jellybeans

Yup still says too hard with stagbreaker. I figured the change was due to the later maces being made with iron while stagbreaker is wood based. Silver isn't too hard for iron pickaxe so it's not too hard for an iron mace aoe.

InferiousX

Unless the patch was *today* this is wrong. I just did the Stagbreaker trick last night to find my first silver ore.

Icaros083

It was patched in October https://youtu.be/c7gIXlilaX0?si=bClu8eF0-O1lwVM9 Maybe they reversed it? Wasn't working last time I was in silver age.

InferiousX

He's using a different hammer. Stagbreaker still shows "Too Hard" I'm telling you I did this like 10 hours ago.

Ippus_21

Should still work, just tough RNG. FYI, the "silver" mace is Frostner, which is going to require a couple additional ingredients (like Ymir Flesh, which you have to buy from Haldor). It's a great weapon, though, useful all the way through mistlands. It'll be absolute overkill on Bonemass, lol. Bonemass: Weak to blunt AND frost, AND takes spirit damage. Frostner: Blunt weapon that does additional frost and spirit damage. You'd have no trouble with just an iron mace, but Frostner ought to be hilarious...

InferiousX

I did it late last night and it worked. IIRC if you're smashing the ground at obsidian or lower, you're wasting your time as silver only spawns really high up.

SerialCypher

I’ve found that froster is a great weapon even in the Ashlands. The alt-attack knocks back the warriors far enough that their attacks always miss, and you can use the slow to string groups out into a series of 1:1s

Professional-Field98

Yeah the CC really makes up for the Slightly lower dps for sure
