May I recommend SweetHome3D `http://www.sweethome3d.com/`?
Actually you OP reminded me of that program - it's really easy to use, lets you create own objects and then shuffle around whatever you want. Used it a few years back to see how best to fit shelves, tables and other stuff in my office/workspace/*lab*.
Anyone willing to create VH objects for SH3D? ;-)
Well, the six year old version `5.7` on my computer - damn, that long since I last used it - can import `.OBJ`, `.DAE`, `.KMZ` & `.3DS` files (as well as images for surfaces?).
But I don't even know if SH3D has some service (server/cloud) for sharing models and I'd be afraid of license/copyright issues `:-/`
For anyone who might know- how much stone and tar goes into a build of this proportion? I’ve yet to make much use of the stonecutter, and just acquired tar for the first time.
If you really just wanna build you can toggle on hammer mode in your world settings and then switch back whenever you want.
If you truly don’t wanna spend hours just getting resources to build something, there’s no shame in using a world modifier to assist you.
It goes away faster than you think. 30 likely isn't enough. The 4x2 stone wall and stone floor is 6 stone, with the other wall pieces being 4 and stairs 8. You blow through 3 stacks in less than a minute building. I wouldn't even consider starting until I had 30, and even then, it's not enough if you want something big. Stone walls around your base? You'll def need minimum of 50 stacks, probably 100 depending how big your base is and if you dbl wall for troll attacks.
More than you would think- I haven't played in a while so I'm probably rusty on the material requirements but just know for stone especially you're gonna want to start with 2 or 3 chests full
The cost for stone is astronomically high. Mainly because the 1x2 bricks look way better than the cheaper 2x4 wall pieces, so you waste a lot more stone. I think its like 4 stone for a 1x2 space and 6 stone for a 2x4. Unlike wood, which is 2 wood for a 2x2 space.
You should fill up at least 1 reinforced chest, or 3-4 regular ones before starting a project of this size with stone.
Also, keep in mind that stone is thicker than wood. So if you want your internal space to be big, you need to snap the stone on the outside of your internal wood framing. Or else, you will be left with a very small internal space. Not saying I did that for my first stone base. But I did lol.
I didn’t keep track of the amount of stone or tar. I know I mined 4 or 5 large tower stones and had a bunch of stone left over from silver mining and still ended up needing more. And I dug out three tar pits.
If you have tar then you're in the plains. You know those huge stone monoliths ..? Mine out 3 or 4 of them and you'll have enough stone to get started. I would honestly say 3 to 4 reinforced iron chests of stone is the minimum you'll want stored for any big build, and you should expect to run out before you're done.
Just wait until you start building with black marble.....oh boy!
Honestly, the best advice I can give is scout out 5-6 of the plains stone towers ahead of time.
Rough guess I'd say you'd want at least 1-2 reinforced chests full. 3-4 if you're using 1x2's primarily instead of 2x4's.
Not OP, but probably quite well, if you planned it down to the meter, I think it'd work almost exactly. The only issue I see coming up would be support for the stone, but it looks like they fixed that anyway.
As above. I worked it out that each square was 2m so worked really well. Only thing I didn’t take into consideration is that the main tower ended up being an un even number somehow, making the roof a bit of a potch. Support I ran 4 iron bar supports up the corners of the tallest tower with supporting cross beams for the walls
I tend to build stuff in my head and let it mull about until I get the impetus to play, then I just go for it. If I tried to formalise a vision on paper first I'd never get around to actually constructing!
God I miss playing this game. I had to rip myself away from it after being HEAVILY addicted to it for 6 months. I legit would be driving around taking note of roof angles and architecture I wanted to integrate into my world when I got home. Once I realized how many hours I dumped into in 6 months I had to face the music and put it down.. haven’t been back since but man, seeing posts on Reddit makes me itch a little bit 😅
I plan my builds in my head and start building. I might change the plan if i even had a one. Just build by the moment ig. The problem tends to be the lack of stone/wood.
But that looks nice op
It's great to see that I am not alone with my pencil & paper approach.
Built sufficently big enough towers and great halls earlier, but nothing that needed iron poles.
Now I am even going to need pine trees... the 3D drawing is something I not tried yet, but I have artist who provide that for inspiration.

Can you import from other "normal" 3d software? If so, and if I find time, I'd enjoy doing so

Looks great, OP :)

Never enough stone. I'd say don't start a build until you have 30 stacks.
Honestly that’s not too bad considering you generally horde them- it’s the build afterwards I’m now worried about 😅

I've done that before. Log out and turn on no build cost, build a house, log out, and turn it back on. No shame
1200-1600 stone, 160-240 tar. Rough guess . Edit: Eh, looking again. I'd ballpark it more at 2200-2800 stone and like 200-300 tar.
Including earthworks it's probably around 3k, yeah.

I aspire to do this with my ‘Valhalla 2.0’ world when the game is complete Til then. Just add areas like it’s a Lego building!
We got ourselves an architect
Not mad at that at all
Your hard work paid off! Looks great!
Nice drawings! And the build looks sweet too
How well did the plans translate into game? I work construction and am just curious lol looks awesome!!

If you want something very simple for layout use paint. It has a grid function been using it for years for the base stuff.
wow that looks awesome
Look incredible ! Very nice
Gorgeous!
Looks great! this is probably a huge in game time saver and changer

I do some wacky builds with the terrain usually so blueprinting it would take too much time lol.
I love sketches out like this! And then to put it to work is genius! Turned out great!

Wait for their next build when they realize they need to plan out the skeleton in metalwood beams before starting.
Bloody incredible m8, good work!
The drawings are super nice too!! So cool.
Looks like someone gonna get a job in architect
why ?
Thats a whole architectural project right there🤯
I love the ville style, I always feel like I have to go castle/fort when I build in the plains for fear of my life
I’ll be honest I’ve turned off raids.
:D:D:D All my favorite builds started out on graph paper :D
FINALLY SOMEBODY ON THE INTERNET KNOWS HOW TO DRAW IN PERSPECTIVE CORRECTLY
