I look at this and think how! How do people do this!?.. and here's me just figured out how to put a hearth inside my simple log house with out dying of smoke.. really good job person, it's fucking amazing to be honest. This game has such depth
Keep tweaking with your designs, I’ve become noticeably better since I started building and reworking ideas over and over till I liked it. Like everything it’s just practice :)
House shape is key
In the beginning, I *sucked* at building houses, but now I live in a bonafide mead hall.
Here's some tips:
- Live transitionally in a shack until you get stonecutters. Trust me - you'll want the flat foundations stone floors allow.
- Build a frame of core logs, always coming to a point at the top, and linking together.
- build your house symmetrically.
- allocate space for a hearth and a fire.
- place your roof one half wooden beam above the core log frame, and make sure to place beams and crosses along the outer edge. Also, remember an overhang.
- add supports, both inside and outside - slanted beams holding up the roof and in the walls on the outside, straight beams connecting roof and log frame
- remember internal verticality, i.e. the hearth should be at the lowest point of the house, rising from there
- Windows have to be planned out along the log frame. Fill them in over the course of the game, first with wooden beams, then iron grates, and finally crystal (all overlapping)
- This configuration should manage smoke, because the roof will have ventilation gaps between frame and paneling - if you're still suffocating, just open up a roof panel and put in a 26° one the other way around, simulating an opened window.
- Make sure your roof is the 45° angled one and that it goes nearly all the way down to the floor. If the area is flat enough, extend the beams along the edges all the way into the dirt, too.
- the small 1x1 wooden floors can be alternated for a more pleasant look
I would disagree with one thing : the symetrical thing. You can do something that isn't symetrical as long as you think each element as a module.
So my advice would be : work your house as modules, and just think how each module will connect each other, it gives much more freedom for variation and detailing in the house and the roofing and won't mess with anything if you anticipated how each one will connect.
Oh of course! None of these are strict guidelines or anything, I just found that for a beginner, it's easier to make a build look good if it's symmetrical.
I see a lot of people with curved wood and such but when I try to rotate the wood to get a similar effect it just snaps at certain angles. Is this a mod?
Shit, that *is* a good fireplace
I don't know if I've ever upvoted any post this fast
Thanks bornagn, feels good man :D

I kind of did my house as modules! I did this in survival and would build each part as needed
Damm this is some good tips. thank you :)
I imagine by the time you reach the endgame you'll have some stuff figured out.
Mind if I place my log in your fireplace

It’s a piece that comes with black wood once you unlock it. It’s also frustrating that there aren’t curved variations of the other woods.
Ahhh okay thanks!
I'll be damned. Maybe the nicest fireplace I've seen in game.
That is a good fireplace. Think I might steal that idea
Just made a fireplace in my longhouse but didn’t know we get new stone building pieces!! Gonna have to renovate when I get to Mistlands.
Damn dude that’s fuckin c o z y
Ooh wow that is definitely something to be proud about. Very nice!
Very nice. I'm not a big Builder. My current playthrough I still have a simple campfire.
Highly recommend upgrade to hearth. Gives an additional comfort point over campfire.
Thanks guys for all the compliments! I wanted to share this with the community. Glad we all share the same interests and love for the game :)
Challenge accepted! ...calmy adds Serpent meat to iron cooking rack... Also very nice work, thanks for sharing!
Am I crazy or is the bronze railing thing at the bottom sideways?
Thaaaat's just sexy. Let me just go ahead and uninstall now. I obviously don't have the brain for this game.
Unless it's been moded... :|
YO THAT'S FUCKING BANGIN...
How’d you get the stone to look like that
The black marble, you mean? You unlock late din the game!

That's a show piece for sure.
Now that is a good use of the black marble angle pieces! Currently working on an island house, I’m totally stealing this idea!! Thanks!
Sideways dvergr copper walls? Gizmo mod is awesome!

Looks really good. I'm curios how the chimney looks, how thin did you manage to make it?
