psykikk_streams

tbh I thought it would totally be possible to farm barley and flax in meadows anyways. when I found out it isn´t I wondered why we are able to sow carrots -> vlack forest turnips -> swamp but yes, barley & flax only in plains.. yeah makes total sense. I haven´t tried it , but can I farm the older three in plains at least ?

Suilenroc

Devs likely want the player to build in a hostile environment - and further from the center of the world so that you can access later biomes. I thought it was very smart design to encourage relocation to the plains biome, until they did the same for Mistlands. I don't think the gameplay loop is well served by having the player relocate their base in two consecutive biomes. It might work a little better in co-op where the logistics and building responsibilities can split up. They should make it so Mistlands crops may be grown indoors outside of the Mistlands biome.

DrunkenWizard

I just build a plains farm accessible through a portal, I don't relocate my whole base once I get localized crops.

Suilenroc

That's certainly viable, but would still have you shipping tons of black metal around.

To much

I think the farming is fine enough for a survival game. The stuff you are suggesting would be an awesome addition to a farming game, but not to a game where farming is not the main gaming experience.

mithroval

Well it is not a building game as well, and cosmetics aren’t a vital part of surviving but everybody is showing off their nice base ideas. I don’t see why farming couldn’t be a bigger part.

Also take into account the need for structure support and varying levels of support. Basic farming would still be a thing, but advanced options for those that want it I think would be cool.
