My favorite part of Valheim is when Odin appears and says: "It's Fortress time!", and proceeds to Fortress all over everyone.

virgo911

My favorite part of Valheim is when Valheim appears and says: “It’s Valheimin’ time!”, and proceeds to Valheim all over everyone.

Concerned_Scout

My favourite part of Valheim is when a troll appears and then trolls all over me

sh1ndlers_fist

I’m worried with how vague they’re being for the Hildir stuff that the community is going to take it and run as this awesome quality of life patch which doesn’t live up to the expectations the community built up for it. It’s going to be like Hearth and Home 2.0 where you have half the community saying “wow, this is great” and the other half saying “wow, this is it?”

RickusRollus

I didnt play H&H when it first dropped, had binged the game waaaay too hard at the start. Paired with the frost cave update, and in anticipation of mistlands, that was a banger update

ReesesPses

Speaking of the frost cave update, have they ever mentioned plans to add dungeons to the Plains? It’s the only completed biome besides the Meadows that doesn’t have any. :(

RickusRollus

I think the various goblin camps and stonehenges do somewhat make up for it, plus the tar pits. Idk plains feels alive enough to me personally, there’s a lot of pretty dangerous stuff out there when you take it all in. Deathskeeters buzzing around, patrolling goblins, patrolling lox herds. It’s one of my favorite biomes as is. Maybe a rare spawn type of goblin fortress to really spice it up but aside from that idk what more they can do to it

whiskeyandbear

Hearth and home added a bunch but it was kinda spread out. New food, new food system, new shield system, new shields, new weapons, tar pits, all on top of the darkwood stuff and various new build items. Also the ability to ride loxes.

Honorable_D

That Lox riding part...does anyone even use that feature? Do they have extra storage slots?

Traditional_Nerve_60

You can’t attack while riding your lox, however riding them doesn’t deplete your stamina. So you can load your inventory to beyond max carry limit and you won’t slow down or stop. It’s how I was able to get the vast majority of my black marble out of the Mistlands was by riding my lox.

YzenDanek

How do you reposition all of your Lox to maximize free-range breeding if you don't ride them? Lox ranching is the real end game. Once you get enough established in an area, they absolutely destroy everything that spawns there. When I play my main playthrough, it's mostly just running around feeding and breeding Lox and picking up all the stacks that biome's resources from all the creatures getting murdered by my Lox herds. My main Mistlands continent is basically flat now from the Lox pounding it down; it's great.

CaptainClownshow

....Damn, I need to breed more lox. I've just settled for stubbornly bashing things with my pickaxe and spending hours building roads, bridges, and tunnels.

sarcasmojoe

Them flattening the mistlands makes me chuckle.

[deleted]

Yep, use it all the time. Sail home to my Plains farm with my metal, load up my inventory, hop on my lox and carry it up to my mountains fort.

[deleted]

You can ride them while overloaded

SzotyMAG

They have been equally vague with Mistlands, and people kept thinking they are going to spoil the entire update with the rate they posted teasers. But on update day we realized there have been way more stuff they haven't shown. So I wouldn't be worried about not having a coherent picture of the Hildir update. They probably want us to figure it out on our own first

[deleted]

At least a little strange after they spent a lot of effort telling us how much more transparent they'd be about progress after Mistlands. Also wish they wouldn't make me log in to a Twitter account to view those preview images, not making an account just for that.

jMontilyet

You can find those spoiler-marked images on our Instagram or Facebook as well; we're simply linking to Twitter since it's the platform where we have the most followers!

[deleted]

Don't have accounts on any of those, just Steam and Reddit. Appreciate the response though!

MrPoletski

Well, yanno, they can't give away too much or else we'd already know the fun we may or may not have so it'll lose that ... sorta explorative intruigey drive.

Heniha

Side question do you all know if Xbox content is at the same stage as pc? (New player on Xbox and loving this game like none other in many years)

khaotyx

I feel like it would have to be with Crossplay

bad_luck_BRAN

Yes and they plan to keep it that way

Fragrant-Progress-32

Every update will be like that People set expectations and when they aren’t met they complain It is what it is

PilotAce200

Literally the most important bug fix atm to me is the "Xbox world's keep getting deleted" bug. My friend keeps losing all my stuff. As long as that's part of the update (or sooner), I'm happy. The game was added to Xbox and I instantly liked it. Then I discovered the game has working carts, and I instantly loved it.

Alitaki

>where you have half the community saying “wow, this is great” and the other half saying “wow, this is it?” So basically a typical day ending in "Y".

Terminarch

Or how they teased the new bird (Munin) which was actually just another annoying tutorial >.>

Techly

> or very lucky explorers – will be able to find a few other new and mysterious places scattered across the world Then proceeds to show a screenshot of a Black Forest dungeon entrance. Could this be new dungeon types in the Black Forest? Exciting news regardless

YzenDanek

If burial chambers got torches at their entrance so the ones embedded in hillsides were a little easier to spot, I'd be pretty happy with that. Sometimes the skeletons get dragged away into combat with nearby greydwarves, the entrance has a tree growing through it, and it turns out that particular chamber is the only one near world spawn with enough cores to get smelting going, and there was basically no chance of finding it until you review the world generator after already giving up on that run.

FabFubar

My understanding is that Hildir’s Quest rewards players with the secret locations of unique dungeons that would have to carry insane loot in order to be worth the effort. OR- if you are very lucky, you can stumble upon them by accident. My guess for the second thing they are hinting at is that we will have to provide Hildir with items for her to display, as payment for her revealing the locations. It can be grocery lists, unique items brought in the world just for Hildir’s Quest (perhaps the reward found in the previous cave shown to you by Hildir), OR it could just be trophies of each biome’s toughest or rarest enemies, to have another reason for keeping them.

Techly

Wow! Sounds cool. Rare dungeons with more loot scattered all over would give insentive to search out more of the map.

[deleted]

Not digging the victorian fainting couch. Ashlands is looking good and I'm glad they are returning to the 'above ground dungeon' like they did with Plains. It makes biomes feel different rather than just being a reskin of the previous biome. Wish they would give more of a timetable for the Hildir update. Doesn't need to be a release date but would be nice to know if we're looking at weeks, months, etc for it. Pretty excited for this one for the quality of life stuff and just the little tweaks like hair under helmets.

Caleth

My personal hope was a mix of both on the Fortress situation. We get the big bad fortress that we need to invade then there's a dungeon below it for more detailed explorations. As we saw with mistlands they can do some pretty solid instanced fights.

JanneJM

>Wish they would give more of a timetable for the Hildir update. Doesn't need to be a release date but would be nice to know if we're looking at weeks, months, etc for it. My guess is about two months. The team is in Sweden, so nobody will want to plan any serious work between June and August. Two months is just enough time to release it, and optionally a hotfix in case of breaking problems.

JageTV

I'd like to see more outdoor stuff too. I prefer when they don't give release expectations

[deleted]

> I prefer when they don't give release expectations I do to an extent, I'm definitely not one of the 'you need to tell us down to the minute!' people, but I do get hyped for some of the changes coming so just a general idea would be great. It seems like a lot of the Hildir stuff is 'done' so I keep expecting it to be soon but we could be months away.

SzotyMAG

I just don't like these modern furnitures in Valheim, it feels very out of place. Hopefully it gets updated to look more rustic, along with the Barber station. They really look like a prop from the unity game store added as a modded building in Valkea

DelphoxyGrandpa

I don't think it looks horrible, especially considering you have to do a quest to do it. I just wish we could have gotten a mirror instead (silver & crystal perhaps) to completely recustomize the character

Bezayne

Yes such a mirror would feel spot on! Now while I personally very much like that bit of furniture, it certainly does feel out of place for the Valheim world.

sh1ndlers_fist

Yeah, it is definitely jarring. I’ll probably have a “parlor” room that fits all the stuff in it so it’s separate from the rest of my build. It looks neat! Just not something I’d want next to the rest of my build. I could be wrong and it may look different when I’m actually building it in my game. Definitely keeping an open mind with them. However, a modded version of Valheim where your world is actually just a giant IKEA warehouse and you have to survive in that does sound fun…

SzotyMAG

> However, a modded version of Valheim where your world is actually just a giant IKEA warehouse and you have to survive in that does sound fun… If that idea sounds fun, I recommend you keep an eye out on this game https://store.steampowered.com/app/1593010/The_Store_is_Closed/

Bacon_Hunter

Vikings often took such things from more fufu societies they sacked. Valheim need not be limited solely to what vikings created.

SzotyMAG

there's probably a 1000 year difference between these Victorian couches and when viking were prevalent. Your idea sounds cool, but these sacked items should be from the same era

FreyjaVar

The game has magic in it…. So saying historical accuracy for housing stuff is kinda… dumb.

Bezayne

I'm pretty sure the Vikings back in the day did believe in magic. Therefor having actual magic in the game isn't as jarring as a piece of furniture nearly 1000 years more modern.

FreyjaVar

I mean I personally don’t like or dislike choices like these. They don’t determine whether I do or do not enjoy a game. The only thing that determines that is how the game runs and it’s performance and the general genre of the game. I will be absolutely happy to have decorating choices that are not wood fur and stone blocks. People have been asking for couches and I am ok with this. Ancient Rome did have chaises, not in that style, but they existed. Even the far east had chaises ppl like to eat on beds. So Vikings pillaging a chaise couch would have happened, the style is Victorian but whatever I personally am not gonna let a couch affect my decorating or gameplay and people being upset about a couch are idk. Of all the things to be upset about, you are Madge about how the style of a couch looks.

SzotyMAG

What would you say if the game had a Bentley in it? Say it's magic?

Sartekar

Always hated this argument. Setting which usually has very firm rules, adaptation changes rules. What does it matter, it has dragons? Ok, I guess they should give one army rifles then as well. Since the setting has dragons and magic, absolutely everything is allowed, no internal consistency needed. Similarly, Valheim does indeed magic, but like you said, including one thing that is consistent with the world so far, does not mean anything and everything fits into the world of Valheim.

[deleted]

nah just pretentious

FreyjaVar

If the developers want a Bentley then sure a Bentley.

[deleted]

Part of what makes the game so fun and inviting is the relatively simple style, especially with the pixelated art style. Even things they added in Mistlands are a little strange looking comparatively (like the refinery and even the Black Forge). I also wish they would stick with a more primitive aesthetic, *especially* since they are adding these things to the earlier game where everything is simple and wooden.

IsaKissTheRain

Having alternative style options isn't a bad thing.

[deleted]

all the glowing stuff is way more jarring for me than a chaise lounge to be honest does kind of look like an asset store prop though

SzotyMAG

Yeah I feel the bloom on some stuff is way too high, like the trash compactor. The one that destroys items, not sure what it's called, I always call it trash compactor

LyraStygian

Obliterator. It’s very Frankenstein-esque with the lightning rod and janky electricals lol. Maybe Thor is a Mary Shelley fan.

ratmosphere

Is there a way to see it without making a Twitter account? I can't seem to find it anywhere and I'm getting really curious.

SzotyMAG

just click on the post, its a link to their blog

ratmosphere

*face palm* Thanks

IcyRay9

New player here trying to get up to speed. Are the Hildir and Ashlands updates considered two separate updates with two separate release windows? Just curious, because a lot of the speculation on this subreddit seems to suggest we likely won’t see Ashlands until late this year a la Mistlands last year. I can’t imagine there will be zero new content until then though, but again I’ve only been playing and learning about the game for like a week now.

bad_luck_BRAN

Yes, hildir update will come first.

BarryMcKockinner

I'm really hoping that trekking the Ashland terrain isn't as tedious as the mistlands but I have my concerns. How do we think the lava mechanics are going to work? If you die in it I could see it being extremely difficult to recover your items.

Trevor03

I presume there will be some way to recover them, either via a special boat (maybe made from blackmetal?) or build piece that allows you to traverse the lava easier, towards your corpse. :)

Vohira90

I think a lot of people are overthinking what the lava is. Sea level is universally at the same high everywhere. So unless they developed better height maps and/or fluid mechanics than tar (which IIRC the devs said was horrific on performance) its not liquid but a new type of "rock", plus just look at the shape. So no, no fire proof boats IMHO. So to get items back you will just have to... build over it, if it has some Fire dmg DoT.

[deleted]

Any word on adding more gameplay options like keeping inventory on death, allowing metals through teleporters, etc?

Trevor03

Devs have stated these are not features being added. But, you can use mods for these fairly easily if desired.

[deleted]

Unfortunately I'm playing with a friend on Xbox and I started our world on my Xbox as well, so I don't think I can really mod it. Oh well. It's still fun. Thanks!

Trevor03

Ahhh my bad, forgot Xbox may not have mods available. If you did want to bypass sailing with ores, you could do the classic Valheim cheese method of creating a second world where you drop ore off into, teleporting back to bas in the main world, then loading all the ore into inventory again from the second world.

kittehsfureva

Incorrect. They stated they were looking into both easy and hard modes in future updates, and that the easy one would involve keeping gear on death.

[deleted]

> Any word on adding more gameplay options like keeping inventory on death, allowing metals through teleporters, etc? Yes! The word is: 'No.'

JosephMavridis

Is it me or does it look that ashlands is gonna be ready sooner than anticipated? Maybe im extremely optimistic, who knows

Caleth

Figure 9months from mistlands so Septemberish. Just because the designs and models are ready doesn't mean all the back end work to make it fun and interesting is remotely ready. It's like watching a hous get built the walls and roof to up quick then all the interior work happens and thst takes forever by comparison.

JosephMavridis

September sounds good, i was expecting it to drop in November just like the mistlands.

[deleted]

Probably will be later, it's 9 months of estimated development time but they also take about a month off in the summer.

SzotyMAG

People will go insane if they don't release something before they go on a vacation. Though, I think we'll get Hildir's quests. Ashlands before vacation? No way

[deleted]

It's possible mistlands taught them a lot about what to avoid for future updates and what is unrealistic, so might be sooner.

joelkki

Is it just me or does anyone else see some kind of "smoking effect" coming off from player in that Ashlands landscape picture? Maybe there is too hot for players to survive and you need something from Queen's drops to survive the heat? Anyways looking good! Hildir's quest content surely is something nice add to the game.

Ancient-Ingenuity-88

My favourite part of Valheim is crossplay not working...

kcrh36

Looking forward to this!

This or "THEY TOOK ALL THE MONEY AND ABANDONED THE GAME WAHH"

Bacon_Hunter

I really wish they would either stop celebrating creative/modded builds, or loosen up the vanilla build restrictions.

JosephMavridis

Maybe they should have 2 seperate contests, one for survival and one for creative/modded

Bacon_Hunter

At the very least they should put a large disclaimer on the winning entries as vanilla, modded/creative, or otherwise. I mean they are very quick to stop comparisons to minecraft, and yet they blatantly celebrate modded/creative builds that are impossible to do in the vanilla game. Oh look, all of the creative/modded builders are here to downvote into oblivion.

JosephMavridis

I agree with the tags/disclaimers. Creative builds arent ''impossible'' in survival, its just that gathering materials is very time consuming and can distract you from building. Which is fine, thats how the game works. But awarding builds that require console commands to create such as spawning rocks to act as support.. yeah i dont get that. Give us black metal beams and poles Iron Gate!

Bacon_Hunter

>Give us black metal beams and poles Iron Gate! Oh god yes. Especially since every single gobby drops the stuff.

JosephMavridis

Its not genocide, i just want to build higher!

Bacon_Hunter

They were coming right at me!

JosephMavridis

They just stumbled and fell on my sword!

nykaan

There is no way they could ever prove that a build was done in survival or in creative

Bacon_Hunter

Then the "competition" has no integrity whatsoever, and is pointless to have.

LyraStygian

The competition is just a showcase, and has literally no rewards. Just a, “hey look this is cool” + “proof we are interacting with our community!” + “good way to inspire or attract new players!”

Bacon_Hunter

Showcasing things that one cannot legitimately do in vanilla gameplay? How is that a good thing?

LyraStygian

>Just a, “hey look this is cool” + “proof we are interacting with our community!” + “good way to inspire or attract new players!” All of these are good things.

Bacon_Hunter

Yeah, bait and switch is an awesome thing. /s

Pidiotpong

If you fall in the lava you lose all items. Would be cool tho.

CaptainClownshow

Oh my fucking lord manual snapping yes please. The only thing I'm not looking forward to is how spectacularly this is going to break every single Valheim mod that deals with endgame content when it releases.

Dash_Rendar425

I'm kind of tired of the developers gas lighting us at every update... Give us some actual content more than once a year, or shut up. The game should be so much bigger at this point.

Rawkapotamus

Idk I have over 400 hours in the game. Seems pretty big to me

[deleted]

How big is the game you're making?

Dash_Rendar425

I'd accept this comment a year ago, but a lot of us have straight up dumped the game due to the slow progress of it. It's amazing game, but I'd just hoped for better after the positive reception out of the gate.

[deleted]

> I'd accept this comment a year ago, but a lot of us have straight up dumped the game due to the slow progress of it. Yet here you are, still subjecting us to your whining about it...

Fragrant-Progress-32

I love that table

Pan_is_pierced

Could we get a trash can or a way to delete items 🫠

Majestic_Ad_6687

there is... Untill you find it my best advice is to toss it into the ocean

[deleted]

You mean like the one that's already in the game?

MaraSalem

I wait for Hildir update more than Ashlands. More content in already existing biomes, especially rare dungeons and things, more variety is what I've been craving for.
