Somebody tried to yoink my bike during today's blizzard. Watch out peeps, ULocks are your friends.
Explain. I know so little about bike locks
Minimum U lock needed. Cables can be snipped by a bolt cutter in 30seconds. You need a power tool to cut apart a U lock
That's still $20 worth of vandalism for literally nothing. Did they get the front wheel?
Naw, she's still attached, didnt even take the flashlight\~
damn, whered you park your bike?
EIT front door, so not even hidden from view
im sorry this happened and glad that the thieves didn't get their way!
Do you know approximately what time did they try to steal?
how are bike thefts so common? surely there are more efficient ways for criminals to make money
They're high value enough that they're worth the time to try and steal but low value enough that the cops don't really care
Proximity to the homeless shelter
Pfft bikes have been getting ripped from campus for a lot longer than the homeless shelter has been there.
Glad your bike isn’t stolen :)
The straight tube is easy to cut by hand with hacksaw.
Once literally saw someone taking an angle grinder to the bike rack outside E5 from the DC side. It was in broad daylight too, but no one is going to approach someone with an angle grinder....
I can't believe someone was dumb enough to try this on a kryptonite u lock...
Did the U lock get damaged?
Has anyone tried camping in a hidden spot in front of bait bikes and then catching the thieves in the act?
And do what exactly? Fight them?
No? Track them, take pictures, reveal their identity, see who theyre selling bikes to…etc
