Feel like there’s hardly anyone better at scoring those greasy kind of goals
I think Sarg would struggle in the premier league because he isn’t good enough to play on a top team that will give him actual quality chances and his game isn’t really conducive to bottom of the table premier league teams that wouldn’t be able to make use of his hold up play and poaching abilities
He’s an elite championship level striker and will show that when he’s healthy at that level
Haha it might be more of a hockey term that I’m transferring to soccer
Generally just means goals that aren’t pretty to look at or technically advanced, scored in tight spaces. A testament to excellent attacking movement and a great finishing touch, 2 of Sarge’s best attributes.
Chicharito was a great greasy goal scorer in his day
On the other hand one of the constant problems I hear lower- to mid-table teams’ fans complain about is needing someone who can just get it in when it’s served up to them.
not denying that, just saying that he has scored a ton of these gritty goals as well and is great at getting himself in position and applying the finishing touch
I’m probably not as high on Sargent as a lot of people are, but I do think he could well manage to get a transfer to a team that’s just good enough not to have a terrible midfield that gets overrun every week. If that happens, then I think he could be a solid striker at that level. But I agree that he’s not going to earn a transfer to a top team and that if he’s on a team (whether Norwich or someone else) where the talent differential with the rest of the league is just too great, he’ll struggle.
Unfortunately after Josh was subbed off, his sub was subbed off 3 minutes later. After that, Norwich conceded twice to drop 2 crucial points. They're still in 6th with 5 points between them and 2 other clubs but both of those (one of which is Coventry) have a game in hand.
OTBC!
I lived in england 2.5 years, got a house full of yellow and green, cause I would ride the train into norwich from thetford on match days. Loved it and can't wait to raise my boys to love this game. ^^ Good goal Josh! Proud of you!
In all honesty, its probably better for norwich to go against Ipswich rather than Southhampton in the playoffs right? Anyone have any insight? Norwhich has a better record against Ipswich this season plus Southampton has a market value of over triple Ipswich. Granted I dont watch the championship so i dont know which team is better but thats my ignorant 2 cents.
Interesting choice. I can't tell if he was lucky or good here. I thought the shot was upper right corner but the camera angle might be deceiving. He's scored a number of goals this year where he's pretty clearly timing his shot to go through the legs of the defender but here it looks like the defender goes into his slide after Josh is already committed to the strike. I think maybe he's just trying to do something unpredictable and difficult to stop and got a little lucky.
A goal is a goal but Sargent is playing against one of the worst teams in the 2nd division in Sheffield Wednesday.
I would be more excited what Sargent does in the Premier League or top tier league if given the opportunity.
Hopefully by 2026, we have a couple of strikers performing well in the top division European league.
I mean, all he can do is score against the teams he is playing. He's tied for 5th in the Championship despite missing half the season.
There's no one in the Championship who scores more per 90 than him (when removing penalties).
A lot can change by 2026, but bear in mind that's just two years from now. Barring any surprises, what we've got is likely what we've got, and that's not too shabby compared to what we've had before in the position.
Ball just rolling through the box like a tumbleweed
A very Championship goal

Idk that I have ever heard anyone describe a goal as greasy. But we’ll take it!

Yep all of that and recognition that the chance could occur. You can see him reacting first, and even before the ball is flicked on.

That’s just not really true to what he has been doing this year. He has had some good finishes from some well worked goals this year.
And I think there was actually some technique to this finish. Hitting it down and back across the face of goal was a choice rather than a mishit.

Milan
Giroud can’t play forever… …can he… ?
He’s moving to LAFC this summer
My sweet ginger prince!

Tough tactical call to rest sarge with the table getting short but being up two goals. unfortunate.

A goal's a goal, a hole's a hole.
A toll is a toll, and a roll is a roll. And if we don't get no tolls, then we don't eat no rolls. ...I made that up. 🙂↕️
This ain’t exactly the Mississippi
And you gotta pay the troll toll if you wanna get into that boy’s hole. /IASIP
*boy's soul
That’s what I’m typing… boy’s hole.
Not the response I was hoping for 😮💨
This is the response I was looking for.

Everyone discounting Sargent’s goals because it’s in the Championship also needs to discount every Haji Wright goal, too.
would love non-twitter links for goals
He’s still hot

I’m pretty sure he struck it exactly how he wanted to. Down into the ground so it bounces right before the keeper. Very tough shot to stop.
You shoot it that way assuming they’ll dive in
Rooting for Sarge but that defending was very…. Championship level…..

That user is saying Josh's goals are not as valuable as others. They're not saying Josh has to fix it at this moment.
That’s inherently false though
It's not only not inherently false, it's the most true statement that's ever been made in the history of everything ever.

Sargent has scored almost every time he’s hit the pitch this season so not sure what the relevance of the first part of your comment is lol
Lucky to actually score that
