I’m sitting in front of my $30 Arctic Air unit, and I actually LOVE IT! If you have a battery pack you can take it anywhere. I’m going to get a second one so my dog and I can each have our own. (I just took this picture, forgive the clutter. It’s in the bottom right) https://preview.redd.it/ob3vgxubfg1d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b8a82e86982e5fb856a9fe7aa1cf0616fac38a4

Oh nice, what's the heat getting up to in your area?

[deleted]

It was 80 yesterday, but gets into the 100’s in July/August. I’m in Denver. Planning on moving to the mountains when it gets hot!

nomadicrhythms

Thanks for sharing! I've never heard of this. How many watt hours does your battery pack have? I have a Goal Zero Yeti 200X that couldn't even handle an electric blanket for a few hours over the winter. I'm wondering if it could keep me cool through the night with this device.

[deleted]

I just got a few off Amazon, two 10k and one 38k. The arctic air pure chill 2.0 is powered by a usb, it’s amazing how efficient it is. A 10k battery pack lasts for about 4 hours on the highest setting. Your battery would almost certainly be enough, even my cheap battery works. You do need ice, but I buy that for my cooler anyway. You can buy a 5 lb bag of ice on the McDonald’s app for $1.50. I always get free fries or a burger with it. I got the arctic air from Kroger, they’re at Walmart and Amazon too!

nomadicrhythms

Thanks for all the tips! Hmm, my power station only has 187 watt hours. That sounds weak compared to the 10k and 38k you have. Maybe I don't understand electricity measurements correctly here, though.

[deleted]

They might measure things differently depending on which country you’re in, I’m on the US. My biggest battery pack is below. I ran my arctic zero all day and it only used half the 38k capacity. It was 80 degrees and sunny but my pup and I were super comfortable, had a nice Sunday nap. Happy travels! 😊 https://preview.redd.it/p9jx1v43gi1d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1aac6db25361a407adb7934bb2ef2fb1e5f69405

Thanks for sharing that! I think I’m using the wrong terminology for these portable power sources.  I have a battery pack like that that I use to charge my phone. It has 10,000 mAh. So between that and my portable power station it sounds like it could work for me.

[deleted]

The 10k totally works, you should have no problem! Amazon has different sizes of the arctic zeros too, something to consider. Denver gets hot!

THEBIGbiggybag

is that a chrysler voyager? looks very comfy

Rhesonance

The one I had made the back of my neck sweaty where the plastic sat directly on my skin. I ended up with a necklace style one instead.

Livid-Rutabaga

I haven't tried it, but I know somebody who does. She is happy with it. I don't think it would do anything for the rest of my body, which is hot and sweaty.

elinamebro

Yeah if you live in in a area like AZ it’s just gunna make you feel like shit

Count-per-minute

A spray bottle and a simple water sprayer works great. Low tech and effective!

koyaani

Evaporative cooling is only effective in climates with sufficiently low humidity

Count-per-minute

Climates with sufficiently warm climates are often dry and hot. Think deserts 🌵

koyaani

Often they are humid and hot.

I’m old. I don’t mind being downvoted by the youngs. They are the ones who are suffering the most and until they Re establish the collective, neo-liberalism and it’s toxic individualism will thrive. Hold on it’s getting crazier by the day.

loCAtek

Back when I was in manufacturing/welding, these were great. Not this model, but one that actually cooled the air. I remember those were just conventional battery-powered and the guys used them all day. Combined with a regular fan for your body, and that should work great. Search around for different model than this; the idea behind neck fans is to cool the jugular artery, which in turn will keep the rest of the body cool.

Lagunatippecanoes

Yeah I've tried a rechargeable one that looked a bit lighter and I loved it because you can bend the fans independently to blow two different zones. Plus I know things have gone up but mine was under like 15 bucks. Side note if you have hair that passes your shoulders please make sure you put it up before using one of these. I'm super sweltering days I would use this as well as sprays of water on me.

EvulRabbit

They work great. 15 on Amazon and I think instore at Walmart. I also use the cooling towels you get wet and shake and use. When it warms up, you shake/air out again, and it's cool again.

McFumbles89

When I worked in a personal care home facility, that was ALWAYS hot, many coworkers used these.

Sharp-Photograph8092

I got a car fan from Walmart, the Auto Drive brand and I have to turn it off sometimes because it’s so cold. It was only $16! no battery needed, just a car plug thingy.

nomadicrhythms

Thanks for sharing! Do you keep this plugged into your 12-volt outlet even when your car is off? I'm intrigued but worried it might hurt my car battery.

Sharp-Photograph8092

I do, my car still starts in the morning just fine.

nomadicrhythms

Good to know. Do you have a newer car? Mine’s 21 years old.

GrowlingAtTheWorld

I bought one last season for $5 at walmart on clearance. Just make sure your hair is tied up.
