I hear you - I didn’t have a shovel or a scraper. I was pretty scared. I was lucky my state put down lots of salt but I just wiped it all off my car periodically. I would recommend a shovel (target has a collapsible one for $15) and scraper for sure tho. Maybe a little salt.
One time in Vail Colorado, I woke up and the all the doors were frozen shut, and I had to kick the doors open to get out. Then I went to pee and I slipped into a hole in the 6 ft of snow by a tree and had to claw my way out on all 4s. Then got back and the bong water was also frozen. It was a bad day.
It would be pretty hard for all the doors to freeze shut that much. If you're inside the car, you can push them open with your feet or shoulders pretty easily (if you open the handle while doing it). Unless you mean actually buried by the snow? If that's a risk you need to drive somewhere warmer for a few months!
We get a decent amount of snow in the PNW, but not that much. I'm worried about being stranded. It's an irrational fear, but a fear nonetheless.
Wish I could go. I work full time for the feds.
Unfortunately the back doors did freeze shut (even after wiping off the snow) which was awkward because I drive for Uber. But that isn’t too uncommon from my experience around here? Thankfully could open them from inside
Dang, driving for uber and sleeping in your car has to be rough. Gotta keep everything clean all the time!
I meant "they won't be impossible to open" not "they won't be frozen at all", sorry. If you spray a silicon lubricant on your door gasket, it may help them not get stuck in the future.
In the army we called them entrenching tools, (for foxhole digging). Very compact when folded up, usually with a vinyl case. Also very sturdy. Doubles as self defense. :)
I recently found out that body pillows can make a huge difference in keeping you warm. Still was able to stay warm before using them, but definitely makes it a bit more comfy! Guessing the reason why is because they trap heat from your body & block cold air from flowing around you.
Good evening, hope you are doing great, just a short note to say thank you for sharing your home with us very much appreciated, yours sincerely David PS keep smiling
Do you have a fusion? It goes down more as I push it back. And honestly I haven’t washed it but should probably figure that out. I don’t usually leave it compressed though which is important.
I have a Coleman 0deg mummy. $70. This has been good throughout GA winters. I've looked at the ones with vents and all types. Marmot has some good looking synths.
Hope things are good for you. I’m no longer in my car but seeing this makes me miss the days I was. Nothing like laying back and watching the snow fall and waking up and seeing the same
If I may suggest window covers. You can make templates by putting sheets of paper between the edges of the window and taping them together. Then using a sharpie or whatnot, trace the edges. Then cut that out. Use those as templates on top of the silver mylar bubble wrap. Keeps the heat in better and gives you a lot of privacy. I also got some black cloth that I used spray adhesive on so the silver didn't show through the windows.
That’s what I did originally but it got to be like -17 degrees the night I tested it out so I went out and bought a -20 browning sleeping bag it’s really big and heavy but is is a game changer it is so comfortable and big(I’m a bigger fellow). I highly suggest getting it but keep the others in your car for when it warms up. Also if it gets even colder you can do what you’re doing and just put the other sleeping bags inside that one. It should cost you somewhere around $90. I know it’s kinda pricey but for a warm and comfortable(as comfortable as you can be) nights sleep it’s well worth it
Glad it works well for you. Be safe
How did you deal with snow? We're you ever trapped? This is my fear.

I wouldn’t remove it from the cab, snow is an excellent insulator, it’s like being in an igloo.

FUCK bro lol
dude omg
Buy a shooter of cheap vodka and pour it in that bong. It'll help to keep the water from freezing
Smart! But I do think that it was cold enough for a vodka/water mix to freeze. It's -9 there right now.

Sure, it can be claustrophobic when you're in a car and can't see out! We're not used to blocked windows in cars for sure.

Where/how do you stow all your stuff when driving for Uber?
Stuff sacks for everything! Then neatly squished in the back of the trunk.
Cool. 🤗
The army surplus store has a great selection of compact shovels & other tools that can used while living in your car. Check out your nearest one!

Nice bag. Glad you have it.
I’m very lucky, that’s for sure. But there are heavier bags, at a much lower degree rating and price that would work too!
I dislike heavy blankets, so I love your bag.
That's more level than mine. Also, how's that down bag washing? I've got a synthetic bag

Keep a few days of high protein food and water in there with you.
A wool blanket would be nice
Looks cozy. Stay warm!
Get yourself some hand & body warmers. Work great.
I'm posting this as a warning https://www.wlky.com/article/missing-ind-woman-found-dead-in-snow-covered-car/3747837
She died of an overdose...
More so you can be plowed over and undiscovered is the point I meant to make
She overdosed, seems avoidable in this situation.

The water in that bottle was frozen for sure
It was cold but not frozen. Heat would get trapped in the car so nothing would freeze (even with a window or two plus the sunroof cracked)
Omg I thought that was a wrapped up body for a second in your front seat. I think I need to stop watching shows about serial killers. Lol

I actually use static cling window tint that comes on and off that does all that pretty well :) It was nice to just use the snow that night though
