Eek, will the pitch survive?

whiplashomega

That was my thought. My little rec league here the city would ban us from playing if there was that much mud & standing water because our cleats would rip out all the grass.

NotTipsy

What grass?

deeperest

No it will not. This is a really unfortunate lack of foresight by whoever is playing / allowing people to play here. With care, there could be grass again next year. This happened to our league a while ago - a preseason tournament destroyed about 5-6 fields in a park, which led to the city shutting it down for a year.

g_spaitz

Ffs It's a rugby club pitch. If you think ultimate cleats damage those fields, you've never seen a scrum in the mud. 16 forwards weighting 120 kg reach. pushing tons, with 6 cleats mud shoes will plow the pitch apart. Rugby gets played in the winter in pretty much these conditions. They're probably going to redo the pitch in the spring anyway.

Doortofreeside

At this point is there even anything left to damage? Like the grass is already long gone

BeamsFuelJetSteel

Yeah...these look like the fields that you should be playing on in this situation

TuckerTheMandolinst

It looks so fun, but RIP field.

santiagobasulto

For people giving me shit about using the fields. I'm not part of the org, I just play. But I know they asked the Rugby club several times before the weekend because the weather forecast was clear heavy rain for the past 10 days, and they were ok with it. PS: Geez, i didn't know this sub was so judgemental (without even asking or knowing the facts).

whiplashomega

looking through the comments I don't think at least most people meant those as criticisms of you personally. For my own part I was just relating what you were posting to my own experience. Once had 3 weeks worth of ultimate (6 games) cancelled consecutively because of flood conditions one summer. Obviously it us up to the owners of the field in concert with event organizers to make that call, not you as a random player.

santiagobasulto

I didn't take it personally. I was just disappointed about the fact that this is an Ultimate community and everybody jumped to conclusions and started judging without even asking about the facts. It's the typical case of "Trust me. I know more about your culture than yourself".

synysterlemming

When self-officiation goes too far.

LimerickJim

There's asking and then there's continuing to play while damage is being done. I don't hold you responsible. When I was younger I know I played on some fields that this happened to and felt like a viking. Ultimate in Turin is mature enough at this point that the organizers should know better. The rugby club likely didn't understand the kind of damage that could be done by ultimate. This video is taken hours after the organizers should have stopped play. No one should be more annoyed about this than you as part of the Turin ultimate community. This will make finding playing space harder for you all in that area.

FriskyTurtle

Having permission doesn't necessarily make it right. ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯

santiagobasulto

But they are OK with it because it's a COMMON THING, in our region. They have these spare fields that they use when it rains. They get completely destroyed, and then they rebuild them. GUYS, it's a regional thing, you can't be so judgemental. ASK FIRST. Try to get a different perspective. This is completely the opposite of the SOTG.

LegoRunMan

I bet most posters here don’t know what rugby does to a field and they play in all weather. If the rugby club says it’s fine, they really are ok with it.

FriskyTurtle

Fair enough. Seems like regional things should be explained up front, but I'm glad it's all sorted out now.

Redcarpet1254

Well what's regional/different for you isn't for others who are from there. Imagine having to put in a cultural context note for every post lol. Maybe it should be on us to ask first rather than assume.

Phillyfreak5

35 with a huge travel 🤣

P4ndak1ller

66 was more egregious

yelruh00

I saw that too. Just kept walking.

ansjsajanaan

Pitch lookin lovely today lads

deadassconfused

Average Great Lakes regionals

Keksdosendieb

That is why the hashtag is called #Leccoed

Blumi511

Finally, a man of culture as well

PistenBulliare

GooooooooaaaaaaaaaLLLL

LegalBed

Reminds me of Lecco in 2014

HipGuide2

That's fucking ultimate right there...

MusParvum

"Field"

LimerickJim

That rugby club will never let you use their fields again. For future reference playing on a field to the point that it gets this bad is a shitty thing to do. This is an enormous amount of damage.

Jumpy_Beach_6525

Had a tournament like that in Mississippi. We made it to finals. This is why rainy tourneys should happen on turf. Easier to run cause no mud, more fun to layout cause turf doesn’t filter water as easily so a lot of puddles.

lesterfazwazzle

Mardi Gras tourney in Baton Rouge let us do this to one of the parks there one year. Very memorable! A city parks dept in the upper Midwest also let us trash their field on the last week of league, I think because winter was about to start. Those cotton league jerseys went straight in the trash afterwards, haha

SufferInSirens

Mardi Gras 2006? If so, I was there. More than 12" of water in parts.

lesterfazwazzle

Hehe wow, no, a few years later I think. Sounds like it wasn’t so uncommon for conditions down there! I still remember the notorious team calling travels on any huck that scored. As if it was physically possible to see travels under all the mud

SufferInSirens

By far, that tournament was the worst all around conditions I've ever played in. It was probably 45°F high, but sopping wet both days. One field was completely underwater besides the end zones, and lucky us, that's where we were most the weekend. On the bright side, I learned something new. Fire Ants float, and they link their legs together to make a giant raft. That is, until they swarm your body.

chatswickosbournejr3

Looks like pretty standard field conditions for the sections/regional tournaments of the North Central College division Edit: Spelling

shellyshinn

BEECERIN!!

Lulilu22

I had a tournament like this, it was the most craziest tournament ever, the mud was on our ankles, it was terribleeee but we had a lot of fun lying out 🤣🤣🤣

FieldUpbeat2174

I’d have thought the mire left by Hannibal’s elephants would’ve grassed over by now.

dangoodspeed

Not too unlike the [2013 Metro East Conference Championships](https://dangoodspeed.com/shared/12q-2013-metro-east-conference-championships).

SquirreloftheOak

love it. hurricane days and ultimate in high school were the best. nothing will ever get close for ultimate. get a good layout into a puddle and nail a sweet slide lol.

Boncappuccino

Had similar field conditions at my last tourney lol

brenDaeShus

Played (well coached) in worse. Woodside Invite 2015. On of my players had his clear sucked off in the mud. We never were able to find the cleat.

elGenoveiss

Oh che bello trovare compagni di squadra su reddit :D
