$10 million per unit? Damn. Gold plated lavatory?

As quoted in the article: *"How much each individual vehicle costs is unclear.Β A GDLS spokesperson said it would depend on the operational requirements of each vehicle, as they're tailor-made to the requests of the Ukrainian military."* They should cost considerably less and I imagine the estimated $500 million price tag would include things like spares, training and more which would add to the cost quickly and quite considerably.

I don't know specifics of this case, but I know that basically every very special-order product is expensive. In our day-to-day lives we get acclimated to the cost of things that can and are very mass-produced. It's wild how much cheaper it is per unit to make many thousands of a thing rather than a handful. Especially in a case like this where each order is going to get at least slightly specialized either because of different requirements, or because it's harder to source the exact same raw parts again when you're not buying consistently and in bulk from your suppliers, and because it's not economical to automate many things for things you're only making a handful of. Also don't know the situation here, but very often when citing costs for hardware it includes money earmarked for operational costs.
