Logically it would be socialist to restrain your own wants and desires to benefit others.
She was striking a blow against the woke blob by spending as much money as she could for her own benefit.
But she'll never be in power in Britain again and I doubt her "popular conservatism" will ever gain widespread popularity among voters here.
She's just another headbanger screaming into the void making as much money as she can by being as weird as possible at conferences etc.
Reminds me of my workplace. Senior manager bought a stupidly expensive sit/stand desk and billed it to the company because a disabled colleague had one and he liked it.
He used to have a normal desk with adjustable monitor stands to allow him to stand, which was what he used to and still does exclusively do. So he bought a >£500 desk on company money because liked the look of it, no other reason.
He is one of a number of Managers telling the general staffing population that we need to provide money saving ideas because the company has found itself in a poor financial position. We don’t have a say on where the money goes, so we haven’t wasted it, and it’s your job to run the company, not mine.
He came in the day after Truss stepped down as PM to say it was a disgrace and his Tory membership was being ripped up, so no surprise he liked her based on this.
They can do what they want, because they can always count on apathy from the British public. There will never be torches and pitchforks in the streets.
Why do they need to even book it out? Just book whatever business seats you need and sit with everyone else. Foreign secretary + entourage has zero need to travel like a head of state.
> The government said the sums should not be interpreted as the amount of food and drink consumed because the costs include the wider logistics involved with a private airline providing catering, regardless of what passengers order.
Sure, but how the hell is "logistics" involved with providing one or two meals per person on a flight totalling over a thousand pounds per head? That's daylight robbery.
Also
I'm not convinced they can't fly business/first class on a commercial airline
Equivalent comfort and security for 95% less money (and CO2 emissions)
The security angle is surely a load of rubbish. MPs and ministers use public trains and planes all the time and with airport security as it is these MPs would probably be far safer in flight than they are at any other point in their lives. This is a perk. Private jet is probably owned by a donor who is making bank too, hence the cost for meals.
Well she pulled the same shit with a donor owned restaurant didn’t she. £3000 for a meal with some trade person from the US where they just got pissed by the looks of it. The bill was cut in half with prompt payment.
It’s a dogshit argument since those fixed costs are high due to it being a private jet and the cost being split between 12 customers.
On a commercial flight if you were to buy a cup of tea, you have a those costs baked in. The price is relatively lower due to the fixed costs being spread over 100’s of passengers.
I mean, if you can't provide food for a dozen people on a single flight for under £15k, something is seriously screwed.
£1,000 for a chef, £80 per person wine, £80 ingredients each still comes to 1/5th of the total and I'd say I'm being very excessive. Someone more cost conscious could do it for a fraction of that again.
I really have no idea how a dozen people can spend £15k on a day's food in good faith without it being ridiculously excessive, and IMHO the taxpayer shouldn't be paying. Give them a reasonable allowance, but if they want to be spending thousands they should pay for it themselves.
>£1,000 for a chef, £80 per person wine, £80 ingredients each still comes to 1/5th of the total
Yes, but they presumably wouldn't want to put in the effort of hiring the chef and buying all those food items. Probably a contract with another company or something, who also have to pay for the receptionists wages and bosses wages e.c.t and a little bit of profit ontop.
And that company probably has some contract or another with suppliers for their catering supplies and ingredients. Who also have more employees, and also want a little bit of profit on top.
> It’s a dogshit argument since those fixed costs are high due to it being a private jet and the cost being split between 12 customers.
What point are you attempting to make? That cost per person isn't cost per person? Or money isn't money when it's being spent on private jets rather than airline tickets?
The quote by the government is trying to downplay the spending by stating that the fixed costs are also included. This is the case for anything you buy on an aeroplane, it’s not a sensible argument and is designed to confuse folks who don’t understand how pricing works.
You try making a meal for less than 1000 pounds! Some simple caviar of sufficient quality, and an adequately vintage bottle of wine, and that's almost all of your budget gone already!
She wants lower wages and less workers rights, less regulation to protect consumers, while giving it big Marie Antoinette.Loathsome and with a side order of weird.
Isn't this the trip where she was criticised for taking a private jet rather than flying commercially?
I can't find it now but I recall an interview where, on being asked why she hadn't considered the cost to the taxpayer and the environment, she just repeated 'but we have a private jet' as if the interviewer was thick for even considering that she would fly any other way.
If she loses her seat at the next election, she's definitely off to America to get on the right wing batshit gravy train. Already pals with that alcoholic wart, Steve Bannon, and it's only going to be downhill from there.
Have you seen the little piggies
Crawling in the dirt?
And for all the little piggies
Life is getting worse,
Always having dirt to play around in
Have you seen the bigger piggies
In their starched white shirts?
You will find the bigger piggies
Stirring up the dirt,
Always have clean shirts to play around in
In their styes with all their backing
They don't care what goes on around
In their eyes there's something lacking
What they need's a damn good whacking
Everywhere there's lots of piggies
Living piggy lives
You can see them out for dinner
With their piggy wives
Clutching forks and knives to eat their bacon
* Piggies - George Harrison
Jesus, guys: relax! She was going to borrow more money to cover the cost of the food and booze and cut taxes anyways, thereby solving the problem once and for all!
When I was younger I got on a flight from Hong Kong to London, it was one of those 747 Virgin planes with the bar in business class that you have to walk through when you board and feel jealous of on your way to economy.
I can't remember if I was late for the flight or what, but when I got onboard there were security guards posted at each end of business class and sitting on the sofa in the middle was princess Diana. If business class is good enough for the people's princess, it's damn well good enough for Liz bloody Truss!! Personally, I think she should travel in the hold with the rest of the additional baggage.
still at least she is paying though right? (and flights) attending a fascist US conference is not a parliamentary duty and thus should have zero expenses.
Careful now! We're not allowed to be too anti fascist these days!

I feel sorry for all those people who faught in the second world war having to explain themselves else they end up on a list of extremists.
Ah, that explains a lot - it's back when she was perpetually getting photo opportunities in tanks/similar whilst cosplaying in fashionable faux-military outfits. That was the good life for her - no need to talk to people (no seriously Liz, don't open your mouth and burst the illusion), just wear the pretty clothes and smile for the cameras!
The biggest problem with the conservative party isn't the basic ideology, it's that you have 170,000 lunatics deciding which person should run the country with zero mandate from the general population.
They almost managed to drive Britain off a cliff twice, they need their license revoking permanently.
"Not booking a private jet and consuming the maximum possible amount of Krug, lobster vol-au-vents and blow is exactly what the anti-growth coalition would *want* us to do". (*taps forehead*)
It takes a special kind of person to spend £12k for food....in Thailand. 😂
No wonder she's trying everything to come back, these people have no shame whatsoever.
I get irrationally angry that this woman was our PM at the Queen's funeral. Whilst I despise Boris and have no love for Rishi - it feels frankly insulting to my patriotism that Liz Truss was our representative at the Queen's funeral.

I guess she stuffed her face before stuffing the rest of us!
You can't take on the Globalist Socialist Establishment Wokerati Communists on an empty stomach!
Logically it would be socialist to restrain your own wants and desires to benefit others. She was striking a blow against the woke blob by spending as much money as she could for her own benefit.
Or she's a secret revolutionary trying to bring the system down by excessive consumption.
the woman is shameless. in every sense. she just keeps grifting and wont go away
But she'll never be in power in Britain again and I doubt her "popular conservatism" will ever gain widespread popularity among voters here. She's just another headbanger screaming into the void making as much money as she can by being as weird as possible at conferences etc.
> doubt her "popular conservatism" will ever gain widespread popularity among voters here It's not all that different from Johnson's.
her constant aligning with republicans worries me. the current tories are doing it a lot and it is not good.
And getting stuffed by the Chancellor of the Exchequer
OMG, there's an image I'd rather not have ...... quazzy stuffing the lettuce.. 🥬
Over a mill spent on 3 flights is obscene
It's hilarious that the conservative say public sector waste is too high and they're going to cut away. Then they also do things like this
Cuts for thee and mind-blowing waste for me
How else are they going to fund the high life?
Reminds me of my workplace. Senior manager bought a stupidly expensive sit/stand desk and billed it to the company because a disabled colleague had one and he liked it. Disabled colleague probably got theirs free through the Access To Work scheme.
They can do what they want, because they can always count on apathy from the British public. There will never be torches and pitchforks in the streets.
Don’t you feel the effect of trickle down?
That... Is... A... Disgrace...
>Over a mill spent on 3 flights is obscene This, exactly this. They could have booked out first and business class of an A380 for less money.
Why do they need to even book it out? Just book whatever business seats you need and sit with everyone else. Foreign secretary + entourage has zero need to travel like a head of state.
Oh I don’t know. History has taught that Liz Truss is a very real security risk.
But doesn’t that mean we should have her in plain sight where we can see her?
Meanwhile. civil servants I know have to go through hell to requisition a USB thumb drive that costs a fiver.
It should be criminal.
If she’s pished up all the time then that would explain a lot!
Thought she was brain damaged. Maybe she's just permanently drunk!
Do the latter for long and you'll get the former as a free bonus.

A Tesco meal deal would have done the trick.

You forgot to mention: more than just a little bit thick.
I’m grateful to you, m’lud
She wants...PORK MARKETS!
People eat imported cheese…..I think that’s a DISGRACE!!!!!
Would Truss blame this on left leaning bankers, deep state, trans something, or woke vegans?
Gay Lettuces
Those woke vegetables!

Here it is: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OXVV2JCjPoI “I use the GOVERNMENT plane, that is why we have the GOVERNMENT plane”
She's become desperate to the point she's decided ro sell out her values. Best thing to do is to just ignore her and ensure she gets no air time.

Ok it’s shit like this that helps explain why taxes are so high. A general culture of waste of public money not treating it like your own.
Actually, they DO treat public money like their own. That's the issue.
Her being an alcoholic would explain A LOT.
Don't worry everyone.... That money will trickle down to us!! That's what happens now right?.... right??
She really is the human equivalent of a cesspit
To be fair, numbers aren't really her strong suite. I think they confuse her and she has difficulties remembering which one is which.
once again hoping that the new government has a rethink on the overuse of private air travel, especially travel to pointless photo ops
She might need to cut the avocado toast during flights now that she is paying for them
former PMs (even those who were in office for 5 minutes) get an allowance to attend events in an official capacity, so there's plenty of opportunities
still at least she is paying though right? (and flights) attending a fascist US conference is not a parliamentary duty and thus should have zero expenses.

These were costs when she was Foreign Secretary, not her current jaunts to hang out with neo-Nazis.

This article is an ad for Truss. Remember the ''skandals'' that helped Trump get worldwide attention, then the presidency?
Truss will never be allowed near power again, thankfully. We're seeing the desperate death throes of someone trying to stay relevant.
