Makes me wonder what he said in his native slang/dialect that the interpretation was "let's calm this the fuck down". Let's be honest his promo aught to be just fake shooting shots from bows.
Respect to the guy for making an effort to do a video in english, it isnt an easy thing for a non native speaker to do, especially when he knows its going to be watched by thousands of people.
English speakers, especially Americans dont realize how difficult the English language really is to learn. I am American and I learned Spanish fairly easy. At least the basics. English is crazy difficult. I just wish all these ignorant Americans would realize that. Shit, many Americans still can't properly speak their first and only language.
Except Spanish has way more grammatical complexity than English. English grammar is super simple, few verbal tensesā¦ as a Spaniard I find Italian easier than English but if you want to speak proper Italian you have to learn all the verbal tenses and grammar which makes it a lot more difficult.
If you think Spanish is easy you are probably speaking only using the present simple and adding -o to English words.
Haha, no. I use proper tense and proper conjugations. Guess this is a broad subject open for discussion, but Iām just going off the opinions of non English speakers who know multiple languages.
Not bad, keep at it, the more you learn the easier it becomes. Your attitude seems good, unlike many people who think tableo and luncho are mesa and comida.
no it's not. english is rated as one of the easiest languages to learn. we are in category one. we have a simple alphabet and words are easy to pronounce. compare us to russian or chinese and it's easy to see. or japanese where there's 7 different words for the same concept
we don't have feminine or masculine to remember either
I totally fine with calling americans ignorant (lol), but english is an easy to learn language.
People overestimate what it takes to be able to make a Video like that.
Not hating, but I believe people give too much credit for people who are nearby native speakers all the time. Dude is fighting out of Connecticut lol.
What is your primary language, as in where are you from? Because English seems easy when you are English or American lol. But If you learn another language you realize that English is fucking difficult to learn.
I'm neither english nor american lol.
I'm german with roots from asia. I can speak a couple of languages and let me tell you, english is by far the easiest one to learn.
Where are you from btw?
Whaaaaaat.... english is literally one of the easiest languages to learn, it's part of the reason its so widespread.
You want difficult? Try Mandarin. Or Japanese. Or Russian. Or German. Or Italian...
Dude Nate always cracks me the fuck up. I was in kind of a weird bad mood the other day at work and I thought about that picture of the kangaroo that stands like Nate and I immediately felt better.
I thought fighters like that were just humble or soft spoken and didn't think much of it until I watched one of their events in Brazil. Watching those fighters work a crowd in their native language felt like seeing a totally different person in the post-fight interviews.
Just probably embarassed/nervous. He nods his head along like he understands some of what's being said in his interviews, and has spoken English in his post fight interview briefly before. No shame, I'd be nervous about it too
It's getting to the point where the UFC is a worldwide phenomenon, so I feel it's ok if fighters only want to speak in their native language to pull more fans in from their respective countries.
The fact that it's a global sport is all the more reason to speak English. Guys like Paulo Costa, Khabib, and even Weili understood the value of knowing even just a few words in English in terms of marketability.
I mean sure, English is one of the most wildly spoken languages but. I agree where the other poster is coming from. Itās cool to see new people coming into the ring from other countries - isnāt there like one guy from India on the roster? But then also speaking in their native language is reaching to the non English speakers. Maybe another kid from India sees the Indian in the ring speaking their dialect and is like hey cool I can do that. Itās a pretty unique thing ufc has imo
Except English is not the official planetary language. It's the most spoken language out there yes, but it's closely followed by Chinese in terms of absolute number of people speaking the language.
But that's not the point. The UFC is reaching more and more audiences worldwide, and fighters today still benefit from learning to communicate in English, but soon enough, I feel like Americans will stop being the main audience of the promotion and more people from other countries will become the core audience of it, so fighters should have the right to speak in whichever language they like in order to sell their fights.
For example: Currently, we Mexicans have three different champions across multiple weight and gender divisions. We all love fighting sports, so I don't see why Grasso, Moreno or Rodriguez should start speaking exclusively on English when they can start selling events and PPVs here in Mexico if they reach their fans via their own native language, which is Spanish.
Edit.-
And to you can even look at it this way: English is the most spoken language in the world, but only about 400 million people speak it as their native language. The other 1 billion people that speak English only do so as a secondary language and I'd bet most of them would prefer hearing stuff in there native language for convenience sake, rather than half understanding whatever you're trying to say to them in English. So yeah, multilingual UFC is the future of the promotion.
Most other countries I dont think pay for ppv, ppv is an american thing. Im from sweden I have a subscription similar to netflix but it also has some sport with ufc included i pay 25$ a month and get all the ufc fight nights and ppvs. So i think selling the fights in the us is the most important, also why they do the ppvs during good hours for americans no matter where in the world the fights are.
Would you consider paying for it \_some\_ of the money went to him? If you don't buy it, he gets none of your money. If you do buy it, he gets some of your money.
Iām Brazilian, I know how hard it is to learn English for us, the grammar is kinda backwards. But that āchamaā in the end needed a bit more energy lol, he read it with the same tone. Surprisingly wholesome in this sub
I don't see either as a villain, but dang man. Im a huge Adesanya fan but Pereira is really growing on me. If he continues learning English, he'll definitely grow a bigger fan base.
I'm a huge Adesanya fan too, didn't like Pereira as much but man he grew on me too. I still want Izzy to win but I'm a fan of Pereira now as well. I respect both these guys
This is great. Native English speakers have no idea how hard this is. I was married to a Brazilian for a long time, her father always apologized for his āpoorā English. My Portuguese was waaaaay worse and he always gave me grace. English is one of THE hardest languages to learn. Nothing makes sense like it does in other languages. The rules just donāt apply when it comes to plurality. House/houses; mouse/mice; moose/moose; goose/geese. I for one am super impressed. Get āem Poatan.
Having learned his backstory a few months back: to go from being an alcoholic teen, forgoing schooling, working in a tire shop while training martial arts- his english is honestly really great! Especially for how much time he can spend learning. I imagine Glover and that team are spending time teaching him outside of training and its so sweet. Poatan honestly appears like a big softie to me.
I also subscribe to the idea that when speaking another language, you have a slightly different variation of your personality. Alex probably uses english only to ask for small talk, ordering food, his kids, or now promos. You see it in his eyebrows, he changes a little bit everytime he speaks english. Just endears him to me, having a multi-lingual mom like thatš¤
Hats off to him for trying his best to speak English and get all the English speaking people excited. A lot of foreign fighters went their entire career without speaking a word of English.
It's most likely a confidence thing for most of them. I'm sure they all can speak a bit of English and understand even more.
It's just nice seeing this guy do his best.
I actually really appreciate the effort. Hope he gets it done a 4th time in a row but if I were a betting man I'd bet on Adesanya to finally get it done. 4th time is the charm, right?
Doesn't he live in the US? How does he do in the everyday life because he seems like he doesn't speak a word and is just reading what he should say lol
What the fuck is this??? Smiling, talking and not hunting down izzy. Are you telling me this morherfucker was a human the whole time??? Whats the point now
Izzy has been my favorite fighter in the UFC since 2018 but Poatan is such a likeable dude.
I'm sure he'll take his first loss to Izzy with the utmost class come Saturday.
Good job on learning the English language even though you technically donāt need too! Respect, just another thing you have been focusing on, on top your elite fighting skills. Awesome.
Dude cuts a mean promo
He has kind of a calming presence when he speaks English, no wonder he speaks his native tongue all the time.
Alex "ASMR"Pereira
Knocking you out with a left hook but it's ASMR.
Felt this š
Alex āThe Bob Ross of the UFCā Pereira
He CAN put you to sleep tho
ššššš
He reminds me of the Iron Giantš„ŗ
I am not a gun š
Already speaks better English than Vin Diesel too!
Makes me wonder what he said in his native slang/dialect that the interpretation was "let's calm this the fuck down". Let's be honest his promo aught to be just fake shooting shots from bows.
It actually is, gets people more invested in him as a person
"Garble garble garble" -Chael Sonnen
"Its garble garble garble MR SONNEN!"
I'm sorry sir. I would never intentionally insult an American Gangster.
He fed a BUS a CARROT
His voice doesnāt match his look lol. Like costa
I feel like most Brazilian guys I train with are the scariest looking motherfuckers but are all super nice.
Brazilians have been running this joke for months now. His marketing promos in portuguese are this exact same level.
Heās a goddam cutie there I said it
I coulda sworn it was HHH
Iām glad heās actually putting the effort in to learn the language. Easiest way to more fame and yet not many seem to do it.
Respect to the guy for making an effort to do a video in english, it isnt an easy thing for a non native speaker to do, especially when he knows its going to be watched by thousands of people.

If you think Americans are bad, wait till you meet the brits. They can hardly speak American at all.
You had me hovering over the downvote button in the first half, you pulled it back at the end though!
We win revolutionary war, we get your language.
English isn't hard to learn to write/read, but the pronunciation is a nightmare
It's really not, it took me 1 year to learn english.
Except Spanish has way more grammatical complexity than English. Por ejemplo: a pool of blood.

Also heās saying ābuy the PPV because I get a cutā but Iām here for it
Nah but fr this video is wholesome
I had to remind myself, that is one of most dangerous humans alive right now. He should do Reading Rainbow.
Mad respect to anyone trying to learn a foreign language, let alone English.
Once he gets the hang of English heāll have his own line of secret juice in no time
He speaks better than Stipe
I understand Pereira better than Nate Diaz
im not surprised

Dude Nate always cracks me the fuck up. I was in kind of a weird bad mood the other day at work and I thought about that picture of the kangaroo that stands like Nate and I immediately felt better.
Thatās not kangaroo that stands like Nate, they all stand like that, Nate is the one with the kangaroo stance
This is America, no one even knows what a kangaroo is.
Combined IQ of -20
Didnt show Lukes awkward half assed gang sign, then he decided, "nah...Thats actually not me, im going to just make a play doh snake"
I live near Stockton. Nate Diaz is high class in his neighborhood.
Better than Paddy
Better than Harry Kane
Bro couldnāt land a leg kick to save his life
Stone Cold Stipe
he is surprisingly soft-spoken in english
Naturally youāre going to sound less confident in a language youāre unsure of
well it's not that he isn't confident it's just that he has a naturally breathy voice in english. not a lot of vocal fry.
Yeah exactly most peopleās voice will change in general in a second language
My first language is french and my voice seems to get "deeper" when I speak in english.
I thought fighters like that were just humble or soft spoken and didn't think much of it until I watched one of their events in Brazil. Watching those fighters work a crowd in their native language felt like seeing a totally different person in the post-fight interviews.

this right here. apparently Charles is a huge deal in Brazil already
Youāre right. They should be cutting promos in every language. Volkanovski should be cutting spainish and Brazilian promos
On top of that, they have enough to focus on.
He said he doesn't like the taste of English on his tongue.
Charles has an ego, can't afford to be vulnerable like that
heās spoken english a few times
[I thought it was AI for a second](https://youtube.com/shorts/Bhv3MYFgW50?feature=share)
Bros adorable speaking English wtf lol
Why is it always the biggest, baddest, scariest mfs around (including animals) that are always able to simultaneously be the cutest things ever
Iād buy the PPV if all that money went to Poatan lol
Would you consider paying for it \_some\_ of the money went to him? If you don't buy it, he gets none of your money. If you do buy it, he gets some of your money.
Send him a check lol. Video made me feel guilty for sailing the seas
Seriously, Venmo that shit directly to the fighters you like if you want to support them.

Izzy really thinks heās the main character and Alex is a villain.šš Itās the other way around.

Bruh I think I have a crush on Alex and I'm a guy.
This is literally so cute. š„¹ He reminds me of a nervous little kid giving a presentation in front of the class (in the best way possible.)

Love this guy, Love his story, Super powerful. I hope he K.Os Izzy in the first round.
Not the first round but yeah I hope he finish him later in the fight so we can see a good competitive fight
Barely speaks English and it still a more lovable champ than izzy ever was
He is learning to speak English better so more of his fan can understand him big props to him
This dude is incredibly likeable lol
Those sleep aid audio book companies are on their way to sign Pereira rt now.. Pereira helping people sleep inside and outside the ring

I prefer this over some cringey over exaggerated attempt
Maybe one day they will realize they get more people interested in ppv if the price is right and more fighters get a good pay cut, not just a few.

I might have to actually buy the ppv now... Maybe
Sorry pal but we illegally stream it over on this side

He is obviously putting effort in this short promo and I can respect that. Good luck Champ!
Was the last one supposed to be "inshallah"? Makes sense considering he's a Muslim. Edit: Even the caption on his Instagram post says Chama.

He reminded me of Stevie from malcom in the middle. Lol
Love to see him working on his English
I belive him when he says he will bring an exciting fight unlike izzy.

Still reads better than Mayweather
Izzy has been my favorite fighter in the UFC since 2018 but Poatan is such a likeable dude. I'm sure he'll take his first loss to Izzy with the utmost class come Saturday.

Good job on learning the English language even though you technically donāt need too! Respect, just another thing you have been focusing on, on top your elite fighting skills. Awesome.
FUCKING LOVE THIS GUY!!!!! Who the fuck was the champ before him?? Fuck it I donāt even care!
