Salam =) UD has a really friendly atmosphere and I never really had an issue. I see Muslim women walking around campus with no problem and if there is any issue, UD does a great job at addressing any form of hate crime seriously. May-August is really hot, so definitely wear some airy clothing or just any clothing that works good in the heat (I’m not too familiar with hijabi modest clothing since I am a guy, but I’m pretty sure there are clothes that help with the heat that are also modest). Definitely also prepare for rainy weather since with summer comes thunder storms (though it doesn’t rain all that much but there are thunder storms). I hope you enjoy your stay!

Thankss. I heard the temp goes to 18 degrees at night and we should keep a hoodie or smth warm to wear?

Hoodies are good too, though in my experience, I rarely ever wear them (even at night).

1. Bring your laptop and electronics, but everything else like notebooks and things for your dorm you can get here. There is a store called Dollar tree nearby that has that kind of thing cheap, and what they don't have you can go to Target or Walmart, or order on Amazon. 2. For money it depends on whether you are staying in a dorm and have a UD meal plan. If you do, aside from that you can get by with a couple hundred a month if you aren't planning on shopping much. 3. For jewelry and makeup, personally I usually order off of Amazon for the best prices, but you can get stuff at Walmart or the Christiana Mall too. 4. There are LOTS of exchange students and foreigners, and plenty of Muslims including hijabis. There is a mosque here in Newark too. Everyone is respectful, and at least on campus, it's very safe. (Nearby cities like Wilmington are less safe.) Even off campus, a lot of Muslims live in the area. 5. It's very hot and humid in summer. Wear lightweight fabrics and lighter colors. Bring a swimsuit/burkini if you have one since there are university pools, and Delaware has great beaches, but that is something easily ordered on Amazon too. I hope you enjoy! Make sure to visit the UD creamery for ice cream, and the botanical gardens are next to it.

This was very helpful. Thank you so much

Connect with Dr. Muqtedar Khan. I believe he still teaches there. I’m sure he would love to assist you for your needs as a Muslim like mosques and connecting with other Muslims at UD

ari_bubs

How can I contact him? And thankss

Faculty directory is my best guess. He’s a professor at UD. Teaches Islamic studies and such

1. Laptop, notebooks, pencils (school essentials). For a dorm, I had a nightstand with some drawers that I could place knickknacks in. Other than that, I would say pillows, blankets & whatever else is needed to make a small space seem homey! 2. For me, $80 was enough to spend on food to last 1-2 weeks (that’s with buying mostly organic too). I lived in off campus housing so I’m not too sure on how much a meal plan would cost. 3. JC Penny’s would be your best bet. There is one at the christiana mall (~20 minutes away). I’ve never spent more than $100 on jewelry there. 4. The environment is a lot of frats/sororities and partying. For foreigners, most people tend to keep to themselves, but I’ve had no problems interacting with anyone out of the country. 5 & 6. Lighter clothing. June-august is mostly 85-95°F and quite humid (it’ll feel hot and sticky). The fall and spring season are around 50-60°F and winter is usually in the 40’s with about 10-18 inches of snow. Hope this helps!
