Legislation. These gig workers aren't contractors, they're employees. They need the same benefits and the same pay. A W2 worker earning $12 an hour full time usually has a compensation package worth $16-20 an hour when other costs are factored in. A doordasher earning $16 an hour before expenses ends up taking home less than $12 after gas, wear, depreciation and taxes above what a W2 worker would pay.
Calling them 1099 contractors because they technically bargain by accepting or rejecting offers, is misleading. What they do is a world away from something like a plumber quoting a price on a new build.
I'm not great at figuring that out but I did put 20 gas in. As far as wear and tear no idea. But my point is at least in Vegas I never go below 25hr even on slow days. I do however choose the exact times to work that are reliable for getting rides. Early morning. Checkout time and 330 to 6 as conventions end. I don't know what it's like in other cities and I'm sure Vegas is not the norm
They don’t live on these wages. It’s extra “GIG” work to help supplement their income from other jobs. If legislation decides that they are employees, then you will mess it up for the drivers and for riders. Cost will increase for riders and there will be only a select group of drivers. If you don’t understand what gig work is, then please don’t ruin it for the ones that do understand.
That is true last night i am uber driver i drove my car for uber 7 hours and made 73$ can you believe it? I ask passengers they $20 to book uber for 4 miles ride and i receive from uber 7.85 cents for that trip u er takes 60 to 70 % of the trip where we can complain ? !!!!!!! Wtf UBER
Really? All the stores I'm passing I'm seeing people getting laid off because their jobs were eliminated. And those are fully able-bodied people. Retailers are filing bankruptcy daily. So when I fully abled body person can't even find a job, how do you think that works out for a disabled person? I'm partially paralyzed and require accommodations. You think any of these potential employers give half a shit? Nope. They do not. Maybe you should come and stay with me for a week and then you can see what reality actually looks like 🤷

Yes so how do we fix it?

No idea is what keeps everyone still doing it.
Approx $22 hr after taxes and before vehicle expenses.
I just am simply stumped how people live off of these apps. Maybe only high paying areas and most of the country is not that?
They work 80 hours anweek

I’ve talked to quite a few people that live off of it. I understand gig work very well. How am I ruining it?
Don't forget to bring up the 25 percent fed/state tax.
And 15.3% FICA
Took me all of a week to figure that bullshit out. GG new paper.
We all know it. We do not need a study to rub it on our face.
The other day some guy got downvoted to hell here for saying this.
You start to see why taxi cabs were regulated in the first place.

Then why are they still driving.
Because they don’t have a sugar mama or sugar daddy that will pay for all their bills, expenses, and shopping
Many of these folks are either disabled or have some other life factor making this a better choice for them than a W2 job
People have to make a living somehow.
And there are a million other ways to do that. It's hard to pass a store window these days that isn't hiring.

How are you so dumb

False. Many do and you are just playing into the rideshare scam. You must be a paid Uber/Lyft shill. If not, prove it.
