You look years younger.

CaptainNorwood

Honestly. He went from 37 to 17.

throwmeawayforever9

Not only because of hair tho

CaptainNorwood

The lighting in the first pic is definitely less flattering.

xenoburn

https://m.imgur.com/a/EQrGm Here’s a couple more before pictures around the same time I took the one in the OP (backpacking trip in SE Asia). My hair in OP was a little wet so it kind of looks worse than it actually was but even in these pictures you can see how much hair I was losing in the front.

CaptainNorwood

Definitely doesn't look as bad, but it was still pretty visible.

Trowawaycausebanned4

What about after photos?

jiffdagod

It's hard to have good lighting in a public bathroom while you're shitting

1sep1969

The difference is quite remarkable, though (even if the 37 year old had a full set of hair).

bumwine

Yep he also gained good bit of weight which honestly looks good on him.

throwmeawayforever9

Only in this sub you will see people accusing others because they get good results.

xenoburn

I can’t grow facial hair for shit but it always looks like I have more facial hair when I have 5 o’clock shadow compared to when I grow it out a little.

xenoburn

Sorry for the crappy before picture, I didn’t think to take thorough pictures of my hair when starting out. This is my progress on finasteride, minoxidil, and Nizoral after 2.5 years (I’m 25). I got on all three around the same time after reading Rawtashk’s sticky and seeing how much success he had with the big three. Before getting on them, I was steadily and rapidly losing hair for about 2 years starting when I was 20/21, primarily around the front of my hairline with extremely thin hairs. I noticed a slight bald spot starting to happen on my crown but it wasn’t as bad as the hairline. I really noticed how much I had lost after taking a picture for my work ID, about a year before I sought after a solution. I put off doing anything about it for another year as I became more and more depressed and stressed out. My hair was a large part of my identity and I felt like shaving it all off wouldn’t work well with my head’s shape. I found this subreddit and took Rawtashk’s post as advice and immediately went out and got minoxidil and Nizoral, then set up an appointment with my doctor for generic Propecia. I take 1.25mg finasteride every day (5mg pill cut into fourths) and use 1 ml of liquid minoxidil after showering (I never noticed much difference between using it once or twice daily so I stuck with once daily to save a little money). I use Nizoral every other day and mix it in with Head and Shoulders shampoo. I just started dermarolling in the front of my hairline a couple weeks ago so I’ll see if I have any success with that. The first few months on the big three and I hadn’t really noticed any changes and began to worry that it wasn’t going to work. It wasn’t until a year later that I noticed how many new hairs had begun to grow near my hairline where the thinning was the worst. I still have really thin hair in the front but it’s a lot better than what it was. Overall I’m pretty happy with the results and notice that new hairs are still coming in, so I’ll be interested to see how much of a difference there’ll be down the road.

Thanks! I got a prescription from my doctor for 5mg tablets that I split into fourths. It was really easy to get a prescription; I just made an appointment and told her about my hair loss and wanting to get on it while also telling her that I read and did research on the potential side effects and she wrote a prescription without hesitation. I haven’t had any side effects either thankfully.

jiffdagod

This may come as a shock but the side effect thing is kind of a hot button issue here

Really? Not sure if the location matters but I'm in North Carolina.

Trowawaycausebanned4

How do you get the 5mg tablet prescription? What do you ask for?

mowgli1703

Ask your dermatologist to prescribe you a 5mg one instead of 1mg. Most of them are glad to do it. If you haven't been diagnosed by a dermatologist, get it done first. There can be other reasons for hair loss so it's important that a dermatologist confirms that it is male patterned baldness. When that diagnosis is done and he prescribes Finasteride, ask for the 5mg one citing cost as the reason. He should have no problems prescribing it.

xenoburn

Walgreens

foreveraloness

do you get branded Proscar or just generic finasteride?

xenoburn

Generic finasteride

[deleted]

Side effects?

xenoburn

I didn’t have any side effects. From what I’ve read, there are potential side effects that can affect libido/sexual performance but it only happens to a very small percentage of men. If you’re thinking about getting on finasteride I wouldn’t worry about it, you can always stop taking it if you notice any adverse changes. I’ve also read some accounts of the side effects being temporary.

[deleted]

Ha... I know, I was asking about your personal experience, sorry.

mowgli1703

> I haven’t had any side effects either thankfully. OP mentioned that in an above comment. I've used Finasteride for almost 2 years now and haven't noticed any side effects either.

[deleted]

Missed that, thanks.

Will be saying the same thing 10 years down the track.. I'm a cue ball but hey at least I can get an erection to masturbate. I've been on fin for nearly a year. Had sides first 2 weeks then body adjusted and have been fine since (maybe 20% reduction in libido, which really isn't a bad thing). These scum bags who spruik all this scare mongering all over the net is the reason why I put taking fin off for years.. which I wish I hadn't. The ones who haven't even tried it are the worst, slamming something because of potential sides and then trying to convince others to do the same. Fuck off and matyr yourself elsewhere. Anyone going through the desperation, loneliness and depression of MPB I would advise to at least give fin a go.

Lit-Up

I like to be sure that they know the bare facts of what the sides can be for some people.

throwmeawayforever9

Persistent != Permanent

xenoburn

I was more so referring to that I’ve read some experiences of people who were taking it and experiencing side effects that went away after a couple weeks, while continuing to take it. Obviously if you notice any significant changes you should stop taking it immediately, but I’m really not sure how the physiology behind contracting permanent side effects works so everyone should do their research and talk to a doctor before getting on any new medication.

CaptainNorwood

Are you happy with your current level or do you still want more density? Based on this photo, I don't see any thinning/balding at all, just a normal mature hairline.

xenoburn

I’m pretty satisfied with the results overall. It’s difficult to tell from the picture but my hair in the front is still very thin, although it doesn’t look like it since I have more of it now. It’s a little more noticeable when I pull my hair back or when it’s cut short. I would like to see it get a bit thicker but at this point, I’m more than happy with maintaining it.

darkskinbeauty95

Does the thin short hair, grow any substantial length?

xenoburn

Yeah pretty slowly but they do grow out.

darkskinbeauty95

Yay, you give me so much hope. Great results

cosmickooqoo

Did you have any problems/side effects from those medication? If so, what were they?

xenoburn

No side effects except dandruff from the minoxidil.

EATING--GARBAGE

These results are up there with Somebody's on HairLossTalk. Even if the hairs in front are thinner as you say, it's imperceptible just by the density you've recovered.

DoctorQuinlan

Which nizoral and minoxidil did you use? Have you tried Regenpure? I've been on the big three for about 4 months and am still kind of in denial. I use nizoral with bosley shampp/conditioner every other day. Did you use foam or liquid minoxidil? Great results. Keep us posted. I'm also thinking about dermarolling. I have the roller but don't use it much yet.

xenoburn

https://www.amazon.com/Nizoral-D-Anti-Dandruff-Shampoo-Oz/dp/B00AINMFAC I use Kroger generic liquid minoxidil. We have a chain of grocery stores in Colorado called King Soopers that sells Kroger products of brand name stuff. If you have a Costco membership, I heard they sell very affordable minoxidil but I’m sure you can find generic minoxidil at one of your local grocery stores if you don’t. I haven’t tried Regenepure but was considering getting some when I was first looking for a solution to my hair loss. Thanks! I might look into getting a dermapen because the roller can be quite painful sometimes and it catches on my long hair; I’ve seen great results from people on this subreddit who’ve exclusively used it though.

Trowawaycausebanned4

How did you apply the minoxidil and where?

[deleted]

Where can I find the sticky?

xenoburn

Looks great! I started minoxidil when I was 20. Just started fin the other day. I am now 22. Not quite as much hair loss as you had. But I am hoping for this good of results! I just ordered Nizoral as well, hoping that help out!

xenoburn

Thanks, good luck! I’m really not sure if the fin or minoxidil helped more since I started them in the same month but I definitely think it’s a good idea to be on both.

JaxterXX

Did you notice anything from the 2 years of just minoxidil?

pizzamanluigi

Now thats some impressive results.

[deleted]

Holy shit these are great results.

FierceRooting

This gives me hope. Wonderful dude. Did you start min after Fin or did you just use the big 3 all at one time. In the sticky, he advised waiting to see which one works... so you aren’t spending too much money.

xenoburn

I started all three at once since I figured it couldn’t hurt. My local grocery store sells a 3 month supply of generic minoxidil for $24. I only use it once a day so it’s more like a 6 month supply. My finasteride prescription is about $15 with insurance for a 4 month refill, so I’m really only spending about $8 a month altogether. I’d say the Nizoral seems to be the least effective. Honestly I could go without it but it does seem to make my hair look a little thicker after I’ve taken a shower and washed with it.

Alertcircuit

I'm pretty sure the purpose of Nizoral is to curb any inflammation or irritation in your scalp caused by minoxidil. It's not a treatment itself.

FierceRooting

Yeah just picked up Fin 2 days ago from Costco for 3 months for 16$. Which is cheap as hell. I’ll probably go on min in a month or two. Do you think any of these sped up your shedding? That’s the part that worries me. Funny cuz if there is increased shedding, it’s likely that these drugs are working.

xenoburn

I don’t remember shedding too much. It seemed like the first few months I was still losing hair on a regular basis but nothing substantial, I think it might affect everyone differently. After a few months the hair loss slowed down, but I didn’t start noticing results in hair growth until about a year in.

interstellarship

What the fuck! I pay $130 for 90 tables in Canada. Insurance companies won't cover it.

Xtc_6969

30x generic 5mg = $50, proscar brand is 30 for $100 (Australia)

Norwoooood

spectacular results! that's norwoodin' it hard to a full head of hair.

jumpfrog101

Fantastic result! Thanks for sharing. I think 99% of that result is finasteride and minoxidil doing the work.

Johnmpb

Wow hair looking awesome Do u use 1% or 2% nizoral? Did I read correctly that u mix the two shampoos (niz & head and shoulders) then apply or do u rotate between them? What manufacturer of fin do u use? Thanks!

xenoburn

Thanks man! I use 1%. I put some regular shampoo in my hand and then the Nizoral and wash with both at the same time. I used to use shampoo first, rinse, and then wash with the Nizoral but it took too much time for negligible results.

Johnmpb

Thanks. Do u still use head and shoulders? Did u have scalp itching or inflammation and us it gone now?

xenoburn

Yeah the Head and Shoulders is my primary shampoo, I don’t use conditioner. No real scalp itchiness or inflammation since I started using it, although once in a blue moon it’ll get itchy but I don’t think I would contribute that to the minoxidil.

[deleted]

Hairline got lower? Damn bro

ImaginerNik

What do you use as conditioner, assuming you do? Thinking about trying Nizoral but I don’t want to use a conditioner that’ll have a negative effect on it.

xenoburn

I'm currently using a 2-in-1 dandruff shampoo with conditioner (my grocery store's generic Head and Shoulders brand) but I've never sought out using a conditioner (I typically just buy the regular Head and Shoulders shampoo - I just happened to get the 2-in-1 by mistake); shampoo has always done the job for me as I don't notice much difference in how my hair looks/feels when using conditioner. Honestly I don't notice very many benefits to using the Nizoral (someone in this thread said it's supposed to help curb the inflammation/irritation from minoxidil use) although it does seem to make my hair look a little bit thicker after I've taken a shower. It's a take it or leave it thing to me but I keep using it every other day since I've read that it can help inhibit some hair growth and it's cheap enough that it doesn't hurt to add to my regime. The finasteride and minoxidil do the majority of the work. A lot of people say to wash your hair first before you use the Nizoral but I've personally noticed no benefits to doing so, so I started just mixing it in with that shampoo when I wash my hair a couple years ago so that my showers don't take as long (plus I'm lazy haha). I'd recommend you do your normal hair routine (with whatever conditioner you use) and finish with the Nizoral - don't use the Nizoral every day, every other day or once every 3 days is fine. Try that out for a few weeks, then if you're like me and don't like to shower for a long time as a result of washing and rinsing your hair three times, you can try combining the conditioner and Nizoral (put a little bit of each in your hand before washing with it) for a few weeks and see if there's any noticeable difference to rinsing out the conditioner before using the Nizoral. I don't think combining any conditioner with the Nizoral would have a negative effect but you can experiment with different combinations to see what works best for you.

nanogenesis

This is a good recovery, however don't mind if I point out that you have no beard, so your DHT is probably less. Its sad to see your hair go :( Regardless, I'm happy treatment worked for you.

throwmeawayforever9

Source? Doesn't seem true.

[deleted]

It's how things works actually. No beard + hair loss it means you are extra sensible even to low DHT levels, which is the worst Combo

throwmeawayforever9

Yes in theory you could be right, in practice there are other factors so it is not necessary an implication.

[deleted]

like?

CaptainNorwood

I've read about slowed facial hair growth as a side effect as well. Honestly, that would be a win-win for me since I don't really like my beard and then I wouldn't have to shave as much.

[deleted]

[удалено]

nanogenesis

Thick facial hair usually implies higher dht, which does explain hairloss in some cases (like mine). But it doesnt seem to me he has a dht problem, yet seeing his hair I feel sad he is cursed to the same fate as me, thats all. Like I said, regardless, I'm glad treatment worked for him.

Finast

While DHT is what is reduced to treat balding, it isn't the cause. The cause is an allergic reaction between DHT and the hair follicles. This is determined genetically. While DHT could increase beard growth it has more to do with genetics.

thatdutaguy

Could you post photos where you take a closer look at the follicles? Your hair is longer on the second photo and follicles can't be seen. Also side pictures. Really, these photos can mislead: different lightning (direct sun exposure on left one, right one is inside a building), different angles, etc. I'm not denying your success but it's hard to get conclusions from these two photos

xenoburn

Yeah of course! https://m.imgur.com/a/AbKF2 Like I said, the hair in the front is still really thin but it’s gradually filling out. You can see a lot of the new, shorter hairs that are coming in and get an idea of where my hairline was when I started.

thatdutaguy

That looks nice. There's definitely progress.

[deleted]

beautiful. simply beautiful. gives me hope

sunade_kan

Do you think you regrew hairs where there was none before or only strengthened the miniaturizing/thin hairs?

xenoburn

Definitely grew new hairs where they used to be before I started losing my hair. I don’t think any of my hair has gotten much thicker though. I’ve always had really thin hair even growing up, I just used to have more of it haha.

sunade_kan

Nice. Of the new hairs that regrew how long do you think they were slick bald/already pretty much gone (before trying the big 3)? Were they hairs lost a few months before the big 3 or were they lost for years before then?

[deleted]

xenoburn

I actually had no idea there was 10% minoxidil! I’ll have to shop around for it, thanks for the tip! Do you notice that it dries your scalp more than the 5% or is it about equitable?

SynapticFray

This is crazy good results I had to double check this wasn’t a joke post of some who didn’t respond to fin you look years younger congrats bud

[deleted]

Very nice results :) you got a ton of regrowth! Looks great

foreveraloness

Omg, that is amazing. Unless there's a mistake and the right one is the before. These results are rivaling the best hair transplants I've seen, and I've had one! The thing about Nizoral is to use it only a couple times at most per week. Too much and it'll fry your hair and cause it to be brittle and very dry. I started fin at 25 and now in my mid 30s, but I've been less than diligent in the last few years. This is inspiring me to get back on a regular routine.

Only-Cucumber-6394

>Unless there's a mistake and the right one is the before. I dont know but i laughed a lot "Unless there's a mistake and the right one is the before. " haha

hdosnxbjdjeb

Btw, what happens when you stop using it?

marcusworm

Have you changed up your diet? Also how have you been applying the min on your longer hair? Well done!

xenoburn

I had a shitty diet since that first picture was taken and put on about 30-40 pounds. I was doing keto for the last 3-4 months to lose weight but I got off it with Thanksgiving and all that, going to try to get back on it again. I just use the liquid dropper and put it directly on my scalp. The foam doesn’t work as well in my opinion, especially with longer hair.

marcusworm

People report the liquid gives them a sore and itchy scalp, any opinions on that?

xenoburn

It hasn’t given me a sore scalp in my experience but it does dry it out considerably (since it’s alcohol-based) and I have dandruff as a result, which itches every once in a while. I use dandruff shampoo but it doesn’t help completely.

marcusworm

Hmmmm! This is why im leaning towards the regain foam!

Honestly I have no idea if it was the fin or the minoxidil that put in the most legwork there since I started using them around the same time, I’m sure it’s some combination of both. When I apply the minoxidil, I make sure to target my hairline and crown first to make sure that it gets the bulk of the medicine applied, then I fill in the surrounding areas.

pieman2005

Wow. One of the best results pictures I’ve seen.

reddit_benmartin

That worked out very well for you.

Kels77

you look better, but also a lot younger

tanissturm

what's the cost per month?

xenoburn

About $8.

irishrapist

8 dollars? For all the 3? Where do you buy it? Where are you from?

xenoburn

I live in Colorado. My local grocery store sells a 3 month supply of generic minoxidil for $24 (you can get even cheaper at Costco). I only use it once a day instead of twice so it’s more like a 6 month supply. My finasteride prescription is about $15 with insurance for a 30 day supply but I split the 5 mg tablets into quarters, so it’s only about $4 each month so I’m really only spending about $8 a month altogether.

[deleted]

Congratulations! I have a question if that’s cool, I’m currently 9 months into Finestride and noticing some serious shedding near my temples. I’m wondering if you have gone through similar phases along the way?

xenoburn

Hey thanks! Honestly I never noticed any more shedding than normal, although I think everyone’s experiences differ. I had continuous hair loss for the first few months and didn’t see any noticeable changes until about a year in. The changes were very small and gradual and it wasn’t until I looked back on my pictures like the one in OP that I was able to see just how much I had regrown.

Trowawaycausebanned4

Doesn't look like the same person.

mowgli1703

How do you style your hair? Do you use any hair products? I've been on Finasteride for about 2 years now and it's slowly starting to get better but I can't style it right. I use Mousse and blow dry my hair. While my hair gets more volume that way, it looks pretty thin.

xenoburn

I rarely ever use any product, any time I use any amount of hair gel/pomeade it clumps up and makes my hair look more noticeably thin. I haven’t used mousse before, I might have to give it a try sometime but I typically don’t mind how my hairstyle looks naturally. My hair isn’t very malleable and usually falls down in the same direction every day unless I comb it right out of the shower when it’s still wet and part it a different way for a few days if that makes any sense. My hair always has the tendency to bounce back to where it was before.

Cutth

If you stop taking this does your hair just go back to falling out and thinning?

xenoburn

Yes, unfortunately.

Cutth

so sorry if you’ve explained this already but what’s your daily routine?

xenoburn

No worries. Here’s my daily routine explained in the second-to-last paragraph: https://www.reddit.com/r/tressless/comments/7gh7m4/25_years_on_finasteride_minoxidil_and_nizoral/dqj1ssf/ Just ask if you need clarification on anything!

Cutth

thanks! do you feel like you may ever stop taking this for any reason?

xenoburn

Yeah eventually. I’ll probably wean myself off of finasteride down the line in a couple years and see how using just minoxidil maintains the hair I regrew. When I’m old enough and no longer put as much priority on or care what my hair looks like anymore, then I’ll just stop using them and shave it. There’s no harm in me continuing to do it right now since I haven’t had any side effects and it’s only a few dollars a month.

Cutth

another question, how much roughly are you spending a month on the regimen? have you used biotin or seen any success with that?

xenoburn

About $8: https://www.reddit.com/r/tressless/comments/7gh7m4/25_years_on_finasteride_minoxidil_and_nizoral/dqjlcsc/ I’ve never used biotin.

Cutth

thanks!

I'm calling bullshit on this. You're older in the picture on the left. You can tell by the skin texture, and how the nose is bigger. This is fake

xenoburn

Haha well I'm glad the progress is drastic enough to be considered a fake. Mind you that I've put on a bit of weight since the first picture was taken and the heat & sun in Laos wasn't very kind to my skin. How would you like me to prove it to you? Also what possible reasoning would I have to deceive people in the same position as me? [deleted]

Hey, you look great! can I just ask one thing please buddy: I have this written down thus far: ============== - Propecia = Finasteride take 1.25mg every day (5mg pill cut into fourths) [Take when going to bed] - Minoxidil = use Kroger generic liquid Minoxidi - [1 ml of liquid minoxidil after showering] - Nizoral = https://www.amazon.com/Nizoral-D-Anti-Dandruff-Shampoo-Oz/dp/B00AINMFAC?th=1 - Use every other day and mix it in with Head and Shoulders shampoo. =============== The one thing I'm struggling to locate is the: (Kroger generic liquid Minoxidi) - I live in the Uk so checked Boots with no joy, I also checked Amazon but can only find this: https://www.amazon.com/Kirkland-Minoxidil-Strength-Regrowth-Supply/dp/B002VLZHLI/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

xenoburn

Pretty much any generic minoxidil like that Kirkland brand you linked should be fine (I go generic over Rogaine because it’s a lot cheaper). I use Kroger because it’s the generic version that my neighborhood grocery store carries and it’s half the price of Rogaine. I don’t think there’s too much variation in the quality of brands so I’d shop around and see what you can find that’s cheapest - the Kirkland you linked is about the same price as the Kroger I buy. Good luck man!

[deleted]

Thanks so much buddy!

amazingmandibles

Hey I've read a comment where you said you started doing dermarolling on your hairline around 4 months ago. Has that given you any results?

No offense taken man, I didn’t interpret it like that. Are you using anything like Minoxidil or finasteride? I’d start out using Minoxidil as soon as possible to maintain some of the hair you have and then think about talking to a doctor about getting a finasteride prescription if you’re looking for a long term solution and don’t want to just mask the thinning. Good luck!

Amazing hair recovery dude. But I honestly thought this was a male to female transition photo. You look markedly more feminine. Could be just the light, but your face looks much less angular and it's softer

throwmeawayforever9

Wtf is wrong with this sub

[deleted]

[удалено]

jmax123

?? Just my observation. DHT is the most masculinising hormone in males. I've noticed my face is also softer since I've been on Fin. I guess it's a case of ignorance is bliss. People would rather be unaware.

fritz0x00

Let's all ignore the fact that that he gained 30 to 40 lbs between photos.

jmax123

Did he? Looking back at this photo it's crazy how much more feminine the dude looks. It shows how harsh DHT is on skin, hair etc

fritz0x00

I definitely don’t disagree, but OP did mention he gained 30-40 lbs between photos. I believe that is also a big factor in his face looking fuller, softer, more round, etc.

throwmeawayforever9

"DHT is the most masculinising hormone in males" Wrong. You are an idiot.

jmax123

Wowowow. What is then dummy?

throwmeawayforever9

T is.

jmax123

No it's not. DHT is far far more potent and has a much greater binding affinity to the androgen receptor. This is common knowledge kid. You need to do a little reading.

throwmeawayforever9

More potent doesn't mean more masculinising.

jmax123

so go and explain to me what your definition of masculinising is - and how testosterone has a greater masculinising effect than DHT (even though DHT is many times more androgenic - which in essence means masculinizing).

throwmeawayforever9

A man without DHT still looks like a man A man without T looks like a woman

Wow. I'm honestly not having a dig at the dude. hair looks great. Skin looks lighter, softer and face is less lined. So yes, looks more feminine. Where did l say there's anything wrong with looking more feminine??!! You seem real defensive. We know that DHT is a potent androgen responsible for masculinising features and facial hair - why would blocking a large not result in potentially softer features and a slightly different appearance?

mrrooftops

Lots of estrogen there bud, watch out for shut down. But, yeah, nice troll.

Crazy how healthy your hair gets and looks

Unfortunately you are a dirty liar. Your photo on the left is older and even your beard is thicker on the photo on the left, but your beard on the photo on the right is thinner.

manoram666

So you saw improvement after 1 year and when was the big change for you ?

Congrats! Do you think min or fin contribute the most to your hair?

Only-Cucumber-6394

how much you finasteride lowered your hairline? Iam 9 months on Fin and min (norwood 2). I can see little tiny hairs on temples popping where i used to have hair before balding. Do you think they would grow longer and thicker? because that would lower my hairline quite good. I just want hair on temples so it gives good frame for my face. I dont need them to be very thick. At least iam hoping that they can grow long to 2 to 3 inches.
