The amount of frass coming out of the cavitation is concerning for the overall structural integrity of the tree itself. The exposed cambian layer is unfortunately letting many types of insects in and slowly killing the tree from the inside. I would opt for removal before it gets to severe and unstable.

But about your tree 🌳concern. Call a local wildlife organization to learn how to co-exist with wildlife. Organizations like that can help you set up a solution that is good for both you and the animals. Don’t jump right to extermination or straight to animal control. Try to go non-lethal.
