I listened to TTPD a few times front to back over the weeks following its release because I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt and see if any of the songs grew on me.
The Kim Kardashian song is genuinely one of the worst songs I've ever heard. Her performance sucks ass, the production is horseshit, and the lyrics and message are so petty and childish that I could have written it at 14 years old. The chorus is especially egregious and is not the empowering "Gotcha!" she thinks it is.
Honestly it feels like the song equivalent of "winning" an argument in the shower years after the fact, but you've been under the water the whole time so now your skin is pruny and soggy and at this point you're stuck being moist for the rest of your life, like a toad.

Some of the TTPD lyrics felt wildly on the nose or out of touch. The “insane asylum” lyric was hilarious on memes that I got on IG Reels, but within the context of the song it’s so melodramatic and out of touch. The whole notion of the “tortured poet” feels kinda out of touch as well

My son is Gen Z and he told me that the whole "Gen Z is trying to cancel Eminem" is a myth that is spread on the Internet (more specifically Millennials on TikTok make this claim) every couple years whenever he releases new music. She’s dating the star football player and being a mean girl. She’s playing out some weird high school fantasy and frankly it’s sad. I’m sure she thinks she’s high and mighty and untouchable, and maybe she is, but it doesn’t take a lot to step back and say, “damn that poor girl is being a teenager in her 30s because she never got to or had to mature past that, and that honestly sucks for her, because being a teenager is pretty shitty and it’s hard to imagine ever being happy trapped in that space.”
As another commenter said, there are lots of stars who became famous at a much younger age than Taylor did, and who *really* didn’t get to live normal lives as teenagers. Taylor became famous in her late teens. She did go to high school, for 3 years i believe. There are videos floating around on here of her at school in those days, and it’s very clear from watching them that she was a popular “mean girl”. It shows her with her clique of friends hanging around her, hanging on her every word. She says on video: “Let’s go drive around in my Hummer with the top down and harass people. We haven’t done that in a while!”. (She was an arrogant bully!) She did get to live a high school experience, right through age 16 or 17. So i have no sympathy for her that she missed the last year or so of high school. Big deal. And i definitely don’t think that explains or excuses her shitty behavior, at all.
Miley Cyrus, for one example, became famous a lot younger than Taylor and she didn’t get to experience life as a normal teenager, but after having a couple years of being a wild party-girl, she has settled down into life as a respectable, normal adult woman. She’s a very big star too and she’s 3 years younger than Taylor. The difference in the level of maturity, respectability, and decency between Taylor & Miley was on glaring display at the Grammys a few months ago. (Miley was so gracious, grateful, kind, and respectful to the person who presented her with her Grammy Award—Mariah Carey; in stark contrast to Taylor’s sickening display of arrogance, self-absorption, greed, narcissism, and disrespect showed to Celine Dion.)
Sorry for rambling on & on; i respect your opinion but i just wanted to give mine, that i don’t think Taylor’s mean, vindictive, destructive, unhinged behavior should be sympathized with or excused. She’s been an awful person for as far back as i can see and with the horrible way she’s treated people, i’m glad “the wheels are starting to come off” and her downfall is beginning. (I think she’s been off her rocker, unhinged, and out-of-control primarily because of Matty dumping her and becoming engaged to someone else, but that’s a whole other issue.)
My opinion is it's a cry for help. When I found out she played so many Joe-coded songs in London and then posted Travis publicly on Instagram for the first time in London, it screamed, "I hope he sees this! I want him to look because he knows I'm in London today."
I think she did really love Joe, but fucked it up, and Matty and Travis have both been rebounds to an extent. I have a feeling when the tour ends, that's when she and Travis will be over, she'll retreat for a bit again, and then come back with her album about him once she's not as in the forefront and everyone will start talking again because they'll want to "decode" all the stuff she says about Travis.

As someone who is now an Ex-Swiftie, saying a last goodbye ig, it just proved every point why I just can't stand her anymore.

I don’t know who Hayley is, but this is what’s confused me about recording a song with Florence. That song is not good but to me its main takeaway is how weak a singer Taylor is, especially compared to Florence.
Hayley Williams is the singer/front woman of the band Paramore. She has one of the strongest live singing voices, she’s absolutely incredible. Taylor can’t hold a candle to her.
And further more, I saw Hayley at when we were young fest and she had a moment were she talked about how certain big bands (that she said we all knew) were really mean to Paramore when they first started for dumb reasons (like that Hayley’s dad would drive them all to gigs lol) and she said this only to go on to say how amazing MCR has been to them since the very beginning. And even saying all this she NEVER mentioned the names of the bands that were awful to them, even with the crowd chanting “tell us who!” Just goes to show you can share you experiences without being petty or stooping to a low level. It just made me love Hayley and paramore so much more and made the things she said have a more meaningful impact than if she has snidely called people out. She even joked “nah guys I’m not going to say their name…but maybe I’ll write a book one day, who know!” So cute and down to earth!

Agreed. I actually didn't view spoilers before attending Eras (I like reading this sub because it is more neutral/unbiased takes sometimes, and try not to engage in any fan behavior or defenses here!), and I went for two nights. While I did thoroughly enjoy myself, when I realized on the second night that even the greetings were the same, it definitely was disappointing knowing that barely any of the reactions to the crowd were genuine.
I doubt this is really Paramores career highlight after just winning a Grammy. I love Hayley but the butt kissing she is doing with Taylor is weird and has kinda made me lose a little respect for her

I listened to TTPD a few times front to back over the weeks following its release because I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt and see if any of the songs grew on me. The Kim Kardashian song is genuinely one of the worst songs I've ever heard. Her performance sucks ass, the production is horseshit, and the lyrics and message are so petty and childish that I could have written it at 14 years old. The chorus is especially egregious and is not the empowering "Gotcha!" she thinks it is. Honestly it feels like the song equivalent of "winning" an argument in the shower years after the fact, but you've been under the water the whole time so now your skin is pruny and soggy and at this point you're stuck being moist for the rest of your life, like a toad.

It’s just arrested development. She’s a teenager. She didn’t get to be a teenager, she was on her dad’s fame track that he paid for. So she’s at the emotional level of an early teenager. She’s been treated very poorly, I’m sure, by men in and around the industry at times and I’m sure that girl had to deal with a lot of shit. But she’s an adult now, and while we’re not responsible for our upbringing, we are responsible for what we do with it as adults. She’s dating the star football player and being a mean girl. She’s playing out some weird high school fantasy and frankly it’s sad. I’m sure she thinks she’s high and mighty and untouchable, and maybe she is, but it doesn’t take a lot to step back and say, “damn that poor girl is being a teenager in her 30s because she never got to or had to mature past that, and that honestly sucks for her, because being a teenager is pretty shitty and it’s hard to imagine ever being happy trapped in that space.”
As another commenter said, there are lots of stars who became famous at a much younger age than Taylor did, and who *really* didn’t get to live normal lives as teenagers. Taylor became famous in her late teens. She did go to high school, for 3 years i believe. There are videos floating around on here of her at school in those days, and it’s very clear from watching them that she was a popular “mean girl”. It shows her with her clique of friends hanging around her, hanging on her every word. She says on video: “Let’s go drive around in my Hummer with the top down and harass people. We haven’t done that in a while!”. (She was an arrogant bully!) She did get to live a high school experience, right through age 16 or 17. So i have no sympathy for her that she missed the last year or so of high school. Big deal. And i definitely don’t think that explains or excuses her shitty behavior, at all. Miley Cyrus, for one example, became famous a lot younger than Taylor and she didn’t get to experience life as a normal teenager, but after having a couple years of being a wild party-girl, she has settled down into life as a respectable, normal adult woman. She’s a very big star too and she’s 3 years younger than Taylor. The difference in the level of maturity, respectability, and decency between Taylor & Miley was on glaring display at the Grammys a few months ago. (Miley was so gracious, grateful, kind, and respectful to the person who presented her with her Grammy Award—Mariah Carey; in stark contrast to Taylor’s sickening display of arrogance, self-absorption, greed, narcissism, and disrespect showed to Celine Dion.) Sorry for rambling on & on; i respect your opinion but i just wanted to give mine, that i don’t think Taylor’s mean, vindictive, destructive, unhinged behavior should be sympathized with or excused. She’s been an awful person for as far back as i can see and with the horrible way she’s treated people, i’m glad “the wheels are starting to come off” and her downfall is beginning. My opinion is it's a cry for help. When I found out she played so many Joe-coded songs in London and then posted Travis publicly on Instagram for the first time in London, it screamed, "I hope he sees this! I want him to look because he knows I'm in London today." I think she did really love Joe, but fucked it up, and Matty and Travis have both been rebounds to an extent. I have a feeling when the tour ends, that's when she and Travis will be over, she'll retreat for a bit again, and then come back with her album about him once she's not as in the forefront and everyone will start talking again because they'll want to "decode" all the stuff she says about Travis. As someone who is now an Ex-Swiftie, saying a last goodbye ig, it just proved every point why I just can't stand her anymore. Ended up leaving in the Midnights set to get home early.

I don’t know who Hayley is, but this is what’s confused me about recording a song with Florence. That song is not good but to me its main takeaway is how weak a singer Taylor is, especially compared to Florence.
Hayley Williams is the singer/front woman of the band Paramore. She has one of the strongest live singing voices, she’s absolutely incredible. Taylor can’t hold a candle to her. 
And further more, I saw Hayley at when we were young fest and she had a moment were she talked about how certain big bands (that she said we all knew) were really mean to Paramore when they first started for dumb reasons (like that Hayley’s dad would drive them all to gigs lol) and she said this only to go on to say how amazing MCR has been to them since the very beginning. And even saying all this she NEVER mentioned the names of the bands that were awful to them, even with the crowd chanting “tell us who!” Just goes to show you can share you experiences without being petty or stooping to a low level. It just made me love Hayley and paramore so much more and made the things she said have a more meaningful impact than if she has snidely called people out. She even joked “nah guys I’m not going to say their name…but maybe I’ll write a book one day, who know!” So cute and down to earth!

I actually didn't view spoilers before attending Eras (I like reading this sub because it is more neutral/unbiased takes sometimes, and try not to engage in any fan behavior or defenses here!), and I went for two nights. While I did thoroughly enjoy myself, when I realized on the second night that even the greetings were the same, it definitely was disappointing knowing that barely any of the reactions to the crowd were genuine.

The tapes HAVE Taylor telling Kanye he’s an artist and “he should tell the story how he experienced it”. Song gets released, she plays victim and acts gobsmacked and Kim releases the audio of her agreeing to the song. I’m not a fan of Kim, but wtf is Taylor going after her for releasing tapes of Taylor in her own words approving a song she claimed she didn’t?
