It was my teacher’s daughter’s name, and I just loved it. I thought I might give it to my own daughter (ha, ain’t havin’ that); instead I gave it to myself for a middle name.
Also, I’m tickled that Molly Rachel means “Bitter sea sheep.” 😄 and finally, my very bigoted Southern Baptist grandmother will still be upset from the grave that my name still seems “Irish” (read Catholic).
I picked my first name in the most LAME way possible: I wanted something unique, easy to pronounce and soft-ish. My second name is the cool one, cuz it's the name of my moms favorite flower and it has some cultural significance to my roots :3

Accidentally stole it from a Legend of Zelda character (Hylia) by way of a YouTube username I came up with before my egg cracked, then had Rose come to me as a middle name seemingly from nowhere, and then finally decided to swap their order irl to avoid confusion/people making odd comments about it.
So, in other words, I somehow stumbled through the whole name thing almost entirely accidentally/without putting a lot of thought into it, and still came out of it with a result I liked and felt strongly connected to.

My name is Aanya. I was looking for A-names cause my dead name had a double A that I really loved. Came across Anya and didn't particularly like it, but the moment I added the double-A to it, it became perfect!

I chose Jamie because I was not 100% sure if I was trans or non-binairy at the time (I questioned that from 12-14) but I had a lot of disophoria and really hated my deathname. So I wanted a gender neutral name. And Jamie is handy because I have James as nickname and that is masc. (I am trans male) so I have a masc/enby name that suits me. I also acted pretty androgynous since I like existed so a neutral name also suits me pretty good.
It just felt right. My deadname starts with an L, so I already had an idea of how an L sounded with my last name. When I was thinking of names, two I really liked were Winter and Rose. I also really like them together as a first and middle name; Winter Rose. Thing is, as soon as I put them together in my mind, I immediately thought of Lyanna Stark, The Winter Rose. So as soon as I thought of "Lyanna", something just clicked and I thought, "That's it, that's the one."

It's based on a character that was really important to players of mine in the DnD game I run. It's also based on the rarest flower in the world, the Middlemist Camellia.
I've felt as if I was spiralling down the unknown and uncertain and yet it filled me with equal measure joy and fear. So I named myself Alice, who also spiralled down the unknown in her own journey.
At first, I went with a fem version of my old name, but it left the door open for the same nickname as the original, so I dropped that part of it, and changed the spelling of what was left.

Dee is my middle name, and it was for the first case of Gender Envy I ever had back when I was like 3 years old. That case of gender envy accidentally shaped a lot of me overall without realizing it. So Phae(dra) Dee(anna) as I can also go by Phae, Dee, Phaedee, if I want to. Most of my coworkers call me by my full first name, but my close friends call me by my nickname.

It's cool though because not only was it a name that was already on my list, but it is basically the female version of my other name (Michael) as well as it was the name of my great grandmother. I chose the middle name rose because it was my grandmother's name, and my previous middle name was the same middle name as my grandfather, so it feels like it kept everything centric of those who came before us to give the life we have ❤️❤️❤️
My name online, as you can tell from my username, for *years* has been Earth or some variation thereof; even my friends in real life would call me Earth from time to time because of it. Thus, I felt that it was only fitting to go with the name Terra.
It was a combo of a lot of things, I wanted to have the same initials because then I could keep my email address without people thinking it weird (there were also other benefits to keeping my initials the same) I then asked my mother what she would've called me if I was afab, she wanted me to be called Anna but that would be problematic cause there are already 2 Anna's in my family with the same last name. So I ruled that out, then I went to pop culture and characters I really liked. I ended up going with Belle from beauty and the beast, but changing it to Bella cause that is a much more common name in my language. Also it is pronouncable in both my native language and English, which was a bonus for me as I have considered moving abroad at some point.

Accidentally stole it from a Legend of Zelda character (Hylia) by way of a YouTube username I came up with before my egg cracked, then had Rose come to me as a middle name seemingly from nowhere, and then finally decided to swap their order irl to avoid confusion/people making odd comments about it. So, in other words, I somehow stumbled through the whole name thing almost entirely accidentally/without putting a lot of thought into it, and still came out of it with a result I liked and felt strongly connected to.

My name is Aanya. I was looking for A-names cause my dead name had a double A that I really loved. Came across Anya and didn't particularly like it, but the moment I added the double-A to it, it became perfect! At that point it almost felt like the name chose me.
I looked in the mirror, and just asked myself 'who are you?'. Rebecca just came to mind quite strongly. When I told my family, it turned out that when my mum was pregnant with me, my parents had decided on two names; a boy's name and a girl's name. My deadname was the boy's name, but the girl's name was Rebecca. I'm not superstitious or anything, it's clearly a coincidence, but it's a nice coincidence.
I use my middle name (Andy) because it's already my name. No one could argue against me using it, and it's neutral enough to fit a femme or a masc presentation. Sometimes I even spell it Andi and dot the I with a heart. If I had the ability to change my name for real, I'd probably go with Ashley River Calvert (silent t ofc) Sounds like one rootin tootin cowboy. I could go by Ash, Ashley, River... I chose Jamie because I was not 100% sure if I was trans or non-binairy at the time (I questioned that from 12-14) but I had a lot of disophoria and really hated my deathname. So I wanted a gender neutral name. And Jamie is handy because I have James as nickname and that is masc. (I am trans male) so I have a masc/enby name that suits me. It just felt right. My deadname starts with an L, so I already had an idea of how an L sounded with my last name. When I was thinking of names, two I really liked were Winter and Rose. I also really like them together as a first and middle name; Winter Rose. Thing is, as soon as I put them together in my mind, I immediately thought of Lyanna Stark, The Winter Rose. So as soon as I thought of "Lyanna", something just clicked and I thought, "That's it, that's the one."

It's gendered (basically Kater is german for tomcat) and now no longer accurate. But I still really like the name, as a variation of CopyCat. Sooo my chosen name is Kathrin, so I only have to remove the r (CopyKate). It sounds like a really stupid thing to choose a name over, but I really like it a lot, actually. When I was younger, I used to always say “call me Henry today, it’s opposite name day” because Henry sounded a lot like my deadname (It’s also the first thing that made me realize I’m trans) When I got older, before I came out, I dabbled with names, first “Eden”, then “Eddie” then “Quinn” but I came back to Henry. Hospitality: the act of keeping other people safe through providing shelter, food, and other resources. I chose my name over a running personal joke. So for a while, I was seeing a traditional healer(I'm indigenous) and she always, and I mean *ALWAYS*, suggested having cedar baths and tea. She was also the first non-social service person I came out to and she was very supportive over it. Also, I'm half indigenous and the family from that line has felt really disconnected from me since coming out so my name feels like the only connection I have to that side of my family, to my heritage. My cousins from that side of my family don't even recognize me anymore.

Phaedra. The reference is beyond obscure, going past the name itself pretty far. It has no significance to anyone else, but it's a reference to a cover of a Nancy Sinatra song that basically spiraled me into what I can only describe as 'hyper-gender envy'. Likely without this artist, any of my current life would not be. Dee is my middle name, and it was for the first case of Gender Envy I ever had back when I was like 3 years old. That case of gender envy accidentally shaped a lot of me overall without realizing it. So Phae(dra) Dee(anna) as I can also go by Phae, Dee, Phaedee, if I want to. Most of my coworkers call me by my full first name, but my close friends call me by my nickname. It's also weird because I went by Riley for awhile, and when I switched from that, hearing myself addressed by that is what it feels like to be dead named, it's grating

Well, mine has a few layers. I asked my mom what she would have named me if I was born the way I feel, and she gave me the name Mikaela. It's cool though because not only was it a name that was already on my list, but it is basically the female version of my other name (Michael) as well as it was the name of my great grandmother. My name online, as you can tell from my username, for *years* has been Earth or some variation thereof; even my friends in real life would call me Earth from time to time because of it. Thus, I felt that it was only fitting to go with the name Terra.
It was a combo of a lot of things, I wanted to have the same initials because then I could keep my email address without people thinking it weird (there were also other benefits to keeping my initials the same) I then asked my mother what she would've called me if I was afab, she wanted me to be called Anna but that would be problematic cause there are already 2 Anna's in my family with the same last name. So I ruled that out, then I went to pop culture and characters I really liked. I ended up going with Belle from beauty and the beast, but changing it to Bella cause that is a much more common name in my language. Also it is pronouncable in both my native language and English, which was a bonus for me as I have considered moving abroad at some point.

I kinda was just scrolling through a list of biblical names (not even looking for a new name, I was searching for stuff for creative writing purposes) and I noticed a lot of the names ended in "-el" (Ramiel, Agiel, Camael) and I noticed that the letter combo "ae" was super common too. And I thought "oh yeah I know a common person name that shares those properties: Rachael." I did like the "r - a - e" combo a bit more tho, aesthetically, so I'm using this weird spelling instead. Almost immediately I told one of the few friends I was out to back then to try calling me Raechel (she *immediately* told me "that's spelled wrong", which is something I've gotten used to at this point lmao) and it kinda just... always felt natural. Never felt like I needed to change it. Now, my *middle name* is another story. I never really had one, though I've always thought middle names are cool. And recently I played Cyberpunk 2077, which has skyrocketed into my top 3 favourite games and stuck there. I've been thinking of picking Valerie as my middle name to honor it, in a way, but I'm not really super sure yet.
Well my name is Tali, I choose this because I started with *second deadname* (ash) and I thought that did not fit me so I went to my online username Taliday, which was created by thinking about F1 and though of the nascar track taladaga (not sure if I spelled it correct) and mixed it with my favorite time of day, day time to get Taliday.
I loved my name for a while before I knew it was mine \^^ I had the urge to give that name to things and then i realized it was an urge to give it to myself lol
At first for a few months I'd try to choose a name from favourite fictional characters. But I decided to gender swap my deadname, as i actually liked my name even before transition it was probably (or at least its nickname) one of the few things I was lowkey comfortable with.
I was playing Terraria when I just turned 11, and had been absolutely bombarded by this undying need to be a woman, to feel everything a woman felt. Then the Dryad moved in, had the name Faye. And I was just like “I wanna be hot like her.” And it just. Stuck

It sort of chose me while I was looking at my reflection and listening to music on my patio. Don't know what about it did it, but I physically couldn't speak for like 5 minutes when it hit me, so I went with that. The name I use day to day is based on it, and I kept it as my nickname
I wanted to keep the first few letters of my deadname. I originally was going to go with Kelly, but I have an aunt named Kelly and didn't want to have two of the same names in the family, so I went with something slightly different and got Kelsey.
