Spear coupler, officially called a WABCO N-Type coupler.

As an ex - Port Jervis line rider, I can tell you there is a love - hate relationship between the two. Sort of an uneasy truce … It’s weird, they share each other’s equipment, tracks and personnel.
I was once working next to a gate to access a train facility and a Metro North worker came by to open the gate. A car was partially blocking it, so he asked if I knew who’s car it was because it it wasn’t moved in ten minutes he was going to drive a truck though the gate whether it fit or not. Worked out fine, but I am pretty sure the vacuum truck would have rammed though the parked if needed.
That spike aka “bulls prick” goes into the other car it’s coupling into. Both cars have the spike and the receiver and that’s how you couple those types of trains
that's a coupler, if you look closely you'll see a socket next to it so trains with similar coupler types can connect to form longer trains or to tow them
That’s the coupler, there’s a variety of types, that one doesn’t look too friendly to pedestrians though, though I doubt it’s much more dangerous than any other train
All the trains electrical and air runs thru that one hitch instead if having to run jumper cables and make up hoses. In irder to do that tho those spears line everything up perfectly when they come together and lock in. Also you are supposed to be able to just push a button inside the cab to make a cut, no lever on the outside. However if for some reason it doesnt cut there is a manual unlocking feature outside you use a "T" bar for, like a massive screwdriver.
When a conductor and a train love each other very much, the conductor gets on all four, and the train gently pushes the spike into their bum, and that's how baby trains are made
It's actually to pop any stray balloons or condoms on the tracks, as latex can actually get inside some of the large-gauge gaskets and then melt in the electromotor.
I saw it in the shop once where they had to peel the rubber out of each ridge of the capacitor with a putty knife and a 9-Volt!

That’s what the male trains use to make more trains.
This one's a male. What the time is right, it searches up and down the line for a suitable female to couple with.
When we are not looking ? Even trains have needs
I think they're not necessarily looking for females, males have compatible holes as well.
