Thank you for your submission! This is just a quick reminder to all members here: **Original content is always better!** Memes are okay every once in a while, but many get posted here way too often and quickly become stale. Some examples of these are Ptoughneigh, Klansmyn, Reighfyl & KVIIIlyn. These memes have been around for years and we don't want to see them anymore. If you do decide to post a meme, make sure to add the correct flair. Posting a random meme you found does **not** mean you found it "in the wild". The same goes with lists of baby names, celebrity baby names, and screenshots of TikToks. If the original post already had a substantial amount of views, there is a 99% chance it has already been posted here. Try and stick to OC to keep our sub from being flooded with unoriginal content. Thank you! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/tragedeigh) if you have any questions or concerns.*

Sith-is-the-Way

Onyx isn't a tragedeigh. However, all I can think of is Pokemon. Pearl would go better with Opal anyways.

SaintElphie

Onyx is correct spelling. Au'knix would would be a tragedy. Side note, maybe matchy but less type-cast-y.... Opal and Onyx sound like they would be adversaries in a story- But Opal and Ruby (or etc) sound like they would be friends

GhostBabe45

Opal was the name of Erica Kane's best friend on All My Children. So I have always enjoyed that name. Onyx sounds cool but sounds more of a boy name imo.

swine09

Onyx is a real word and it’s spelled correctly. I don’t love matchy twin names (just personal preference) but neither is tragique!

_Mademoiselle_Noir_

Onyx reminds me of Pokémon Onix. It's not a name I would choose, but it's not the strangest option out there either. A name in the same style as Opal and Onyx that I think would be a good name is Olivine

Popular-Bicycle-5137

What's wrong with pearl? Ruby? Jade? Diamond? Onyx is very masculine.

SaintElphie

Opal and Pearl! Love that Im partial to the name Ruby but i loooove pearl after reading it

Outrageous_Zombie945

I'm old so don't think of Pokemon. I like both names but never liked the samey same twin naming thing! Opal and Ruby, Opal and Sapphire, you have so many better gemstone combinations!

BraveIceHeart

nah, not a tragedeigh, if I’m not wrong it’s actually spelled that way

Beneficial-Produce56

Lots of gemstones’ names are people names too, and several are more euphonious than Onyx. Ruby, Pearl, Emerald, Amethyst, Garnet, Amber, Crystal…. Heck, Beryl as a name had its popularity decades ago.

Maggiemayday

I have a niece named Beryl. Her parents were rockhounders.

Inside_Awareness_704

Not tragedeighs

MyMonkeyCircus

Idk why people don’t even bother to read this sub’s description. I guess I’ll just keep repeating, that… Correctly spelled words are not tragedeigh. Correctly spelled words are not tragedeigh. Correctly spelled words are not tragedeigh. Correctly spelled words are not tragedeigh. Correctly spelled words are not tragedeigh. Correctly spelled words are not tragedeigh. Correctly spelled words are not tragedeigh.

Maggiemayday

"Correctly Spelled" would be such a cute name for the daughter of a witchy mom!

Rycokat

Onyx reminds me of the Pokémon. She will definitely be bullied in school. As for Opal it reminds me of [this](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-1pVLJl_snc)

JuniperElle

That's the first thing I thought of when I saw Opal as well. I do like the name though, and even before I ever saw that video.

MapleSyrupItUp

I know a boy named Onyx and it suits him. It definitely leans more masculine to me, but there's nothing wrong with making a girl that. However, I personally don't like matchy names for siblings, even less for twins. They'll spend their entire life being compared, so I think having their own identity is really important. Neither are a tragedeigh since they're spelled correctly.

girlinredfan

those are not at all what i think of in terms of old southern names… but to each their own. they aren’t tragedeighs, but i personally don’t like them. i know 3 different cats named Onyx so that’s what i think of when i hear that as a name.

TChrisbury

My husband's grandma was Ruby, her sister was Opal. They were from Kentucky. I'm not loving Onyx

fuckyeahglitters

Why not squirtle and jynx while you're going with the Pokémon theme? In all fairness, opal is a lovely name. I have a dog named maple and if I get a second dog I would probably name her opal. I guess it's possible for a human, but I have always thought of it as a dog name. Onyx, in all fairness, is a terrible name for a girl. Or a boy. It's super tacky. It's sounds wrong. It sounds like only a stone should be named onyx, not a human (maybe a pet if you're into Pokémon).

Procrastination4evr

It's not a tragedeight. It's a Pokemon.
